DannyDetail - I guess PiperJaffray has a Strong Buy.
From yesterday's press release regarding IDCC's upgrade :
Eclipsys ECLP Deutsche Securities to Buy
Fluor FLR Friedman Billings to Mkt Perform
Garmin GRMN USB Piper Jaffray to Outperform
Gen-Probe GPRO USB Piper Jaffray to Strong Buy
IMS Health RX Deutsche Securities to Hold
Interdigital Comm IDCC USB Piper Jaffray to Outperform
Jacobs JEC Friedman Billings to Outperform
IMO, Yesterday's drop could be because shorts were trying to feed on the confusion created by SalmonSmithBarney and Piper Jaffray. I don't know if there is any damage control that could be done (if at all it has happened)

Does anyone here think that the confusion between SalmonSmithBarney and PiperJaffrey might have caused today's pullback? Or is today the Russell index rebalancing day? Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Technology question. Does Dell need license from IDCC? I read somewhere today that RIMM is facing competition from Dell.
Thanks!

Question- Can IDCC do anything now to increase shareholder and WallStreet confidence (other than the NOK/SAM release)? NOK/SAM news would definitely help, but other than that could it do anything else to regain any lost confidence or to stop this slide?
Unless this question is answered, I don't think we can set our expectations and start feeling bad that expectations are not being met (i.e., I am not sure if I can expect anything from IDCC now unless I know if there is anything that can be expected).

rmarchma- ERICY getting same rate as NOKIA is really intriguing. Unless there is more to it than what is being shown, it is hard for everyone to swallow. Eventhough NOKIA is causing damage by holding out, ERICY has caused real pain over many years. If not for ERICY (in spite of MOT loss), we would have seen lot of other companies paying IDCC now....which means that more credibility on WS and definitely more well deserved price appreciation.
That "mandate" word in the settlement has lot of meaning IMO.
I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for the knowledge that you bring to this board.

revlis,
500,000 might not be small, but the downward swing in the price is happening under very low volume though. That is the one I was referring to. Once we have WS's attention completely, 500000 will be definitely insignificant, anyway.
Good luck to everyone.

No hard feelings---need to vent a little bit.
I feel so bad by looking at the price action of IDCC today. The stock is getting manipulated with very low volume...everytime it tries to go up, these blood suckers are vulturing around bringing it down with just a few thousands of shares (sometimes even less). This tells me that IDCC still needs more visibility on WS to avoid these vultures (atleast minimize). I know that management cannot crank up their efforts more than what they are already putting with NOK/Samsung. But, a little bit more confidence showing from the management could have definitely helped till we have gotten enough following on WS. I know that everyone says that planned sales will not matter much, but a cancelled planned sale would have definitely helped (or avoiding the unplanned sales after ERICY settlement). We would have been easily trading north of 30 or more with the glimpse of potential that was shown in the past 3 months since ERICY settlement if not for the sales.
I know that IDCC has more than doubled this year, but I sincerely believe that it could have done way lot better for the potential that it has. IDCC deserves more and even the longs do too.

Question regarding today's trading.
All the sell signals on Thompson's I-watch but only very small volume in trading. Does this indicate that someone is desperately trying to keep the price low today. Are the sell signals just to intimidate and set selling pressure not a real intention to sell?
Thanks in Advance.

nieves--Thanks! But how come the Thompson's i-watch is not adding up?
-vg_future
Question. Ameritrade is showing a volume of around 379 K today. Is that right? At Thompson's I-watch volume was adding up to more than 400k. Am I reading something wrong?

Anyone--question regarding 10b-5 sale. Could a planned sale be stopped or does it have to be executed as planned?
Thanks!
-vg_future
Correction. Missed the word "know" from the sentence.
JimLur-- Probably DesertDweller might answer this. As mentioned in your mail he said One question for you, why should he continue to be given more shares if he only plans on selling them as soon as they vest to get cash, why not pay him in cash so we know exactly what we are paying him?
The word continue is the key word here I guess. So, now that we have cash we need not continue giving management shares. They can be given handsome salaries.
I don't know if there is something fundamentally wrong in the way people are expressing their thoughts against management policies. Because when they are trying to say ( IMHO ) that the compensations can be moderated a little bit, they are questioned by other posters as if they are saying NO to any management compensation and rewards. I guess moderation is different from saying big NO altogether.
I have seen this on this board many times. People who are critisizing the management are also getting carried away by emotions sometimes and say something which distorts their original point and from there on the discussion continues onto who said what and how each person can defend his/her stand. The original point of discussion is completely forgotten.
Hope we can continue to concentrate on the subject and control our emotions.
You have built excellent board, I hope everyone upholds the values.

Thinking Hopefully..
I guess there will be more news to come next week. That might be the reason why IDCC made a Friday release (unlike the normal behavior). If there is nothing else, they would have saved this NEWS bit for next week. Since they didn't I am expecting more NEWS next week.
IMHO.

DannyDetail--I am not underestimating the capacity of these reporters, but why should we fear when we have facts on our side? A reporter should be questioned when he/she presents only half truth or take statements out of context to make up his/her story. I am not suggesting that we start a revolt here, which could be dangerous as you mentioned because of our limited reach and their capacity to twist facts to make their case, but someone should counter these kind of articles with facts.
You did a good job by forwarding the stuff to Rip. I hope KOP responds with proper PR or release something to prove these guys wrong. I hope IDCC doesn't consider this like the CFRA report and ignore it. Am I thinking emotionally...maybe...but I hate to see someone soiling our dresses.

DannyDetail- Thanks! since upper management is more analyzed (whatever they do with their shares/options gets reported to the general public), their actions sometimes hint at where the company will be going or how far the promises will be kept and the timeline of future prospects. In IDCC's case since the trades killed the potential rally couple of times, everyone is taking their shot at the management and questioning their integrity. With any significant NEWS all these discussions will be set aside or thrown out. IMO, eventhough some of these discussions are very informative and healthy, mostly they are taking place in such length and detail because of lack of new news from KOP.

-vg_future
DannyDetail--IMHO, the reason for everyone getting so particular about these options is because of the insider sales. I know everyone is mentioning dilution...but the actual concern, IMO, is the compounded effect of dilution with the fear of where they end up. Probably IDCC cannot give out more details about the use for the options, but more shareholders would have shown more confidence if the rally killing insider sales did not take place. They do need to sell them at sometime (no can question that) but if they can be timed more properly. Again, proper timing could be only an individual's perspective...but waiting till the wallstreet gains confidence would have been better. I personally think monetary compensation instead of options/shares could have avoided most of these headaches and discussions. I am not trying to dig something up again....just ignore this message if you feel so.
Right now, considering IDCC's potential (in spite of all the existing grievances against management), I think we all be better off if we don't tie up IDCC's hands. Just need to consider risk to reward ratio.

IMO- Probably they would get more YES votes to prop 2 if insiders show some confidence by acquiring rather than selling (maybe I shouldn't be generalizing since we saw just one Form 4...but it is a big one though and I don't know what his personal needs are). Last weeks PR definitely moved some NOs to YESs...but that is not enough I guess.
I am confused...bcoz the options might be really for some genuine future expansion and I am not sure if IDCC can reveal all its future plans so that it can be more clear. At the same time it can be the same old more in managements bag.

JimLur- Have you heard from Guy Hicks regarding the IR clarification ? Yesterday you mentioned that you left a message for him and will be trying to call him today.
Thanks!

Teecee--Thanks! The reason that I asked that question was I was wondering if someone is playing us before the option expiration. Becasue the timing seems real odd. They had this information for quite sometime (IHUB voting and IDCC's proposal for 5 mil authorization) and why the hell they would want to release it just after a good CC...

infinite_q..Good Post...but, the general feeling that I got from reading the option related messages (atleast majority of them if not all) is that no one is opposing the idea of giving options to engineers. They are only showing strong resistence of the options going into the pockets of a few who have been getting them no matter what. Don't think that I am against the management. MANAGEMENT IS REALLY PERFORMING AND IT DESERVES NICE PERKS. But, probably...since we have so much of cash...a cash bonus would be really great. Bcoz, everytime management tries to take a bite of the bonus options, the stock is taking a real hard hit and losing the steam.
Anyway, the way IDCC is behaving now, it seems that we have put the ugly past behind and forging ahead with full force.
Good Luck and Congrats to ALL.

JimLur--regarding Cabal. I can clearly see a big happy family, but if it is okay, it would be nice to know who is who in the picture.

Sale - Could be aggregate of his sales last month or the begining of this month. Otherwise you would see a Form if this a new sale.
Any thoughts?
-vg_future
Postyle - THANKS for the insight. I needed it. EOM
-vg_future
Postyle - But they are killing the upward potential that the stock was showing. Hopefully they will give us something next week to munch on and forget the whole insider selling saga. When options are given as compensation instead of salary (rather sometimes the top execs take these options to align their interest with the shareholders), disposing those options certainly says about what they think about the immediate future of the company (even short term becomes important when a so called "watershed" event has taken place). The juice is being sucked out of the news. Why should the street beleive in the potential of the news when the insiders seem to have doubts (hopefully I am wrong....please correct me if I am wrong).
Do I have a point? I dont know....just thinking out loud I guess. If anyone read it to this point...thanks for your patience.
Good luck All! We Need it...we should also see a payoff day.

Does this mean that IDCC is finalysing the Samsang part of the NOK-SamSung part that they mentioned in the Mar 17th CC? Could it be for 3G? Does this mean that NOK is already taken care of (for atleast 2/2.5G)? If so, Howard just gave us an excellent piece to chew on.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your input.

JimLur - regarding Rip Tilden. Does that mean he has no shares as of now in the company and only probably some new options that he may get?
Is it possible that he might be leaving the company and joining some other company..probably a strategic relation company. I cannot imagine a top official not having any vested interest in the company. I am really confused with the fact that he sold all his position (please correct me if it is not all his position).
Thanks!

infinite_q -- loop might have stepped onto other issues while discussing about the insider sales. But the point that he made regarding the insider sales seems reasonable...the person that was talking about the potential of incoming income selling some of his holdings the very next week is not good. He might have had his own personal reasons for selling...but we would have been better off if he had got cash instead of options which he sold. Options have effect on everyone. As I mentioned yesterday....today we are nicely rebounding....so this is all a non-issue. Let's forget it and wait for the Houston 100(000....) party.
Good luck to all.

loop- I agree. Had he waited for few more weeks, this whole thing would have had much less impact...as you said by then WS would have caught up with the whole picture of IDCC's potential. I wish they had given it little bit more time to continue this rally.
Hopefully, IDCC rebounds tomorrow and this whole thing becomes a non-issue.
Good luck to all!
