Can I get a straight answer on:
1. Is the material ready for any commercial product yet?
2. If not, what is the process to make it ready? Is it still a trial and error process and obviously no way to predict? If it is a predictable process, how long does it to have it ready?
DLucky
In the Q&A at the 50 minute marker these questions were addressed in some detail imo, I don't think you are going to get them to give us a tweak by tweak dissertation of the synthetic chemistry ongoing, again, which is mainly the same stuff for internal device needs as for LSS needs, at least that was my take from Tom's earlier comments
reds, my time and sales shows trades in the 60 to 69 cents range for 15 minutes beginning about 11 am with about 15k shares traded at 60 cents all in the minute marker 11:02
X, nice job thanks, Wise I think Tom will be following up the call with an open letter as there was quite a lot of ground covered, and apparently some investors misinterpreted the status of the LSS relationship
this was possibly the most positive update ever, you can literally feel the pace of development accelerating now, very exciting time, multiple device protos, handfuls of new provisional patent filings, new device lab, etc
keep the faith
great summary pitcook!
undoubtedly your best post ever!
THANK YOU WISE !!
finally somebody else who "gets it"
inversor, my point remains that nothing has changed with the LSS one iota from the last update, we met certain criteria, and we needed to meet other (undefined) criteria, that is EXACTLY where we stand today based on what Tom said, only now he is saying we'll do that, but we are going to prioritize our internal developments ahead of the LSS, but then in the next breath he said that much of the internal needs are the same as the LSS requirements
again, the reply I got from Steve overnight,
We are putting the call up shortly. I think that you may have misinterpreted what we said. If you recall, the LSS liked our material but had wanted us to achieve certain other parameters which requires synthetic work. We are actually working on that, however we are also working on perfecting our materials for use in our own device structures. Tom made the decision to focus on this effort first before we go back to the LSS with our materials. This way--as he said on the call, we will be dealing from a position of power. Shareholders should be happy about this in my opinion.
Hope this helps.
Upon 2nd listen to the call, I don't think the status of the LSS relationship has changed one iota, Tom basically is saying the LSS is being back burnered by us so as to focus on our internal needs ahead of theirs, then in the next breath he says that much of our needs are the same as those of the LSS
I think Tom got a bit cocky in his verbiage, not realizing how the investors interpret what he said as the death of the LSS relationship, which is not even close to true, imo Tom was trying to show lil ole lightwave directing a bit more of its own future than being a push toy for the big boy LSS
well it backfired, Tom needs to issue an open letter now to,
1) (and most importantly) clarify the relationship status of the LSS
2) bullet-point the progress notes
3) layout the goals and timeline for 2014 (where possible)
when I emailed the company last night regarding the LSS, I got this reply,
We are putting the call up shortly. I think that you may have misinterpreted what we said. If you recall, the LSS liked our material but had wanted us to achieve certain other parameters which requires synthetic work. We are actually working on that, however we are also working on perfecting our materials for use in our own device structures. yup, Tom's little comment on the LSS was not taken as it was meant to be!
still keeping the faith!
Lou Bintz talks to about how lightwave team has completed the development of "material systems", and these entire systems go into device structures and drives the chemistry based on the empirical results of these structures and move forward to improve on the commercialization of each one the multiple devices that we are looking to commercialize
Lou says this is a very strong paradigm , and a way to run a synthetic effort
Lou is extremely pleased with both the chemistry & the interaction of those chemists
Lou also reveals 2 provisional patents being filed, and perhaps 2 or more to follow, based on developments
(note: all from the call at approx the 11 min marker)
roadshow, Z presents to 8 firms already in NY and Boston, and reports the interest level being very good, already some have returned to Z asking for more info
reds, I believe they said they would maintain a lab in Delaware as well
just looked at a 3 year lwlg chart and it looks like a flat line except for the spike up to 3.33 a couple years back, now with the accelerated pace of developments occurring since getting some decent funding I am confident the next 3 years will show a similar spike again, only this time it won't retrace!
keeping the faith!

the call link is under the RESOURCES tab
so again did they say IMEC, yes x, they did say IMEC and they did say Opsys, they also said that they have filed a couple of new provisional patents on recent developments, I am really anxious to re-listen to this call, it is a very exciting time imo
walter, agreed "a misinterpretation" indeed, I also offered up in my communication with Steve that Tom consider putting out an open letter to shareholders for clarification purposes, particularly related to the LSS relationship status, but also bullet-pointing the highlights of the progress notes, and a timeline of current goals, etc.
booyah! excellent call!
I can hardly wait to listen to this call again because it was packed with great progress notes!
the LSS comment of being kind of on hold was I'm sure the reason why so many here have declared the call a disaster, it was somewhat confusing to me as well, but at face value I certainly did not take it to mean the LSS project was dead, so I did the unthinkable and voiced this message board's concerns to Steve and got this reply,
We are putting the call up shortly. I think that you may have misinterpreted what we said. If you recall, the LSS liked our material but had wanted us to achieve certain other parameters which requires synthetic work. We are actually working on that, however we are also working on perfecting our materials for use in our own device structures. wise, remember the years ago industry projections were altered greatly by the 2008 financial collapse, and lightwave never had any decent financing until the recent LPC deals got it rolling, also, imo, the fact that the materials were not yet at a commercially acceptable repeatability level is why earlier project like LMT got shelved, imo they will be back too
let cooler heads prevail, I will comment further only after a 2nd listen to the call, but I heard no fear in anyone's voices, and was impressed by the progress notes as given
x, I am curious to hear more on your brief take on post #8899 which reads,
Very Nice, Got it, Well I think we called that one. No time to get into it, but Yup that answers that. So we stopped shipping Perk to the LSS for the holidays, sounds like we may have gotten a boob job for the holidays, LOL well I guess we’ll see if anyone else wants to get under the covers with us I hope they don’t get jealous.
G Night, rest easy my friends
X
still keeping the faith!
twas the night before the conference call
when all through the message boards,
not a creature was stirring,
not even a wolf in sheep's clothes
the investors were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of prototypes danced in their heads.
yada yada ...
c'mon Z-man & co, it's TIME to launch Phil's rocket tomorrow!

Steve, interesting article, the parts standing out to me were
Southampton University’s Zepler Institute last month hosted a conference to showcase the achievements of the UK Silicon Photonics (UKSP) R&D program, a five-year (2008-2013) project funded by the UK Government’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
...so they've been at it a long time too, surprise surprise
and
Backgrounder: commercial silicon photonics gathers pace
Silicon photonics is a field that has seen rapid growth and dramatic changes in the past five years. According to the MIT Communications Technology Roadmap, which aims to establish a common silicon photonics architecture platform across diverse market sectors “with a potential $20 billion in annual revenue”, this technology is now rapidly transferring from the lab to the marketplace.
US based semiconductor giants such as Intel and IBM have shown their commitment to the enormous potential of this technology with substantial investments. The sector has also seen large investment in the field by DARPA in the USA under its Electronic and Photonic Integrated Circuit (EPIC) initiative. Significant investment in the technology has also followed in Japan, Korea, and to a lesser extent in the European Union (especially at IMEC and LETI). The technology offers an opportunity to revolutionize a range of application areas by providing excellent performance at moderate cost.
so tons of investment $$ and still no true next gen commercial products yet, stay tuned though as it represents a 20 billion $$ opportunity (or more really)!
reds, yeah, and that referring to the money side of things with lumera and darpa mainly of course, from the earlier days
another commonly misused word I see is peaked, used as in something piqued one's interest
nice series of posts x, definitely a benefit for investors here to see a bit behind the scenes of this long and sorted storyline, and only gotten because of certain knucklehead(s) here, you know the ones, dressed in sheep's clothing, lol
I am not superstitious in the least bit, but I do think that God may be testing the true believers patience here; and as the leader of the trojan horse longs has already declared that most of those invested here would be gone by the end of this year (2013), now I am sure that we can trust that the leader himself would certainly not being lying about such a gravely commanded event horizon, and as such will vaporize himself and his position in lwlg in just another short month!
good riddance to the trojan horse longs I say!
oh, and shareholder investor call scheduled now for Dec 5th, looks like the trojan longs were trying to steer the investors here wrongly yet again~
hear hear x, there are, and there will continue to be trojan horse longs, and naysayers with hidden agendas, but it won't change the facts that lil ole lightwave has come a long way from designing the spacer, to getting the patent protections in place, to getting material repeatability up to commercial levels, and now our guys are accelerating things internally with rapid device development, and are at the final hurdles of optimizing performances, much smaller hurdles than have been cleared already!
oh, and don't forget about our 3 year workings with the LSS set to culminate in 2014!
thanks Z and co,
still keeping the faith!
thanks Nitro, looks like I was right!
the picture IS of the proto!
http://www.lightwavelogic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/LWLG-Stonegate-with-New-Master-v2.0.pdf
The tested SOH chip had a 1-millimeter square footprint, enabling the possibility of sophisticated integrated optical circuits on a single silicon substrate. In addition, the waveguide structure was approximately 1/20 the length of a typical inorganic-based silicon photonics modulator waveguide.

BOOYAH !!
x, could you please give us your take on the photo and commentary found on p18 of the roadshow presentation?
tia
Wise, I'd say that it should be a reasonable expectation that bonafide revenue begins in 2014, so I agree with you
not sure how gr468 and/or mil spec testing fits into the equation however, could be of impact to substantial sales, I don't know, perhaps some/all of that testing is being handled concurrently now
btw-has anyone talked/emailed with z,m or c about the p18 discussion of the picture?
I assume we have a working 40gig proto, and I assume that the p18 picture is of it, but some said either it's the proto unpkgd, or it's not the proto but simply a test coupon, anyone?
Buz
I thought lightwave device gets CMOS ready processing right to the board, no?
When you zoom in on the pic of the device it looks like a test coupon with many structures that may not even be waveguides.
BSmith the header at top of that slide on p18 clearly states:
Prototype Device Results
NOT
Test Coupon Results
Also the picture on the right of that slide is clearly of an existing (set of) device(s)
SO
what would the logic be to compare to a test coupon picture on the left as you are suggesting, to an existing device on the right?
by far and away the best news of substance ever released by lightwave imo, albeit indirectly buried in an 8k for an investor roadshow, and the overall market response, excepting for a few of the stalwarts here, has been apathetic at best; still finding this all surreal, perhaps investors don't research into 8k's, perhaps they do and don't understand the disruptive tech being unveiled here
Wiseguy, this day is almost surreal to me, the presentation seems to tell us what we here have all long waited to hear, at least in good part, yet this message board is quiet, and the trading is almost naught
on page 16 basically dissed any competition,
listed gig & soluxra as the only ones known, and don't seem very worried there
x-man, Prototype results - Less than 2.2 volts for 40 gig
this SEEMS like HUGE NEWS
so we now have jumped to a working 40g modulator, seems we skipped right over the 2g or 5g or 10g, right?
If so , BOOOOOYAH
Booyah! the snidely postings index called it (a day & half late, lol)
personally I am pumped by this news, still wanting more detailed specs, but a couple new nuggets contained here, right?
keeping the faith, go Z and co!

terry you say
frankly don't believe you could blast most of the longterm investors out of LWLG with dynamite and never dreamed of being a powder monkey.
and I'm good with that because I think you are spot on there, despite all the whining, none seem to actually hit the exit button here
Replacing electrons with photons is something like that. Anyone can tell you that it's just not natural. If God wanted to enforce His Laws with lasers instead of thunderbolts, He could do it since He can do anything.
I don't buy it for a minute, from your arrival posting here not so long ago, I sense a common thread of what I would label philosophical bashing, and it's purpose not so much different than one who would post here and subtly tell us that most investors here will be gone by year-end 2013
Purp, first thanks for the kind words, I for one, you and many others here are ready for the holodeck already, that is for sure, and I know tensions are high, but I stick to being more confident than ever here, along with maybe only Z & X at this point, lol, I know Z has promised to step up the level of communications with investors and I believe he has fallen a wee bit short in that promise, but I do still feel the pieces are quietly behind the scenes falling into place and progressing at a much faster rate now than ever before in this almost decade long crusade we have weathered to commercially deliver true next gen materials/devices to market
I for one just hope and pray that the communication channel to investors can become more structured and more transparent asap, but regardless I am still keeping the faith
Rickface, my somewhat hidden point on that post was that I did not believe that the 10Q verbiage on the SLM development was something simply contrived by whoever wrote it (jim?) as I thought terry had interpreted it to be, but rather something crafted more likely by the SLM partner BNS; and my great hope is that the perk family of materials translates well (and superior in fact)into what seems to be something that BNS expertise has substantial background developing, albeit with other materials
I do not have enough technical background to assess the likelihood of that however
BTW, I think this is the same statement from the 2nd Qtr 10Q
Z promised an investor call before year-end right? I think it is time for a thoughtful open letter to better inform investors on the status of various projects, and then the conference call to elaborate and answer questions
the sooner the better if at all possible, but who knows, he may be waiting on something very specific before assigning a date to do this
keeping the faith, but it's been a bit disappointing in the pace of information flow
