Not too familiar with SWC, but I've been in and out of PAL twice with good results both times. Their revenues are way down and their costs are way up... not good financial news for PAL.
Health care. For both active workers and retirees. At least I assume retirees get health care benefits, but maybe not.
I'll do a dilligent search for that magazine article tonight. It was within the past couple of months, shouldn't be too hard to find.
PAL - North American Palladium. If this thing goes under 4.20 I'm buying a boatload. It's not like the market for palladium is drying up or anything.
I think it was in Motor Trend where I read some astounding figure that health-care costs add to the price of each new car. Something like $1,700 per car.
GM's health care costs are larger than the GNP of about 100 countries.
Good, I'm glad someone I know made some money on GM. I feel so stupid touting it, then forgetting about it. I just about cried... six bucks a share :=((
And now, like the Matrix, I'm reloaded. I gently approached the oil services sector again, trying to sneak up on it. That sector made me a pile back in February, now I'm going to test the waters again.
SPN in particular.
GM - I went around telling anyone who would listen that GM below $28 was good for a three or four dollar pop in the near future. Unfortunately, I flat forgot about it this week, and sure enough.... This is a 5-day 10-minute chart.
And sell I did! Nothing that qualifies for a "weee" but a welcome break in the down, down, down syndrome.
Temporarily, it seems. Condition seems to have cleared itself up now.
I've got these green numbers all over my Ameritrade streamer. What's that mean?
Hope you get well soon! Sorry to hear that.
Lot of money flowed into the markets today. I wonder if it will wash us all out to sea tomorrow.
I loved being Queen, too, but then my wife discovered I had put runs in her panty hose, and the party was all over. :=))
Isn't that the truth. I had an opportunity to teach COBOL programming to a group of FedEx programmers back in the 70's and I discovered (much to my surprise) that I was a natural at platform teaching. I loved it!
I went on to teach several quarters of COBOL programming at a local Technical College (night school), and I always felt 18 years old when I was up in front of a class.
Alas, I'm desk-bound these days. Or I'm deskbound for Hoople. :=))
I don't mean to be cold about the suffering that's going on in Iraq, but don't you suppose the few doctors, nurses, and emergency care people they have are fast becoming the world's leading experts on response and treatment in disaster situations?
If things ever do calm down in Baghdad, they could open a College of Medicine for Emergency Care After An Explosion.
My .02 worth tonight. I recently bought a '98 Pontiac Gran Prix GT from a little car lot, and I couldn't be happier.
The car had 66,000 miles on it, and all the maintenance records. It was a local car and the car dealer had the previous owner's name and phone number if I wanted to call her, but I didn't bother.
The car was absolutely spotless on the inside. You couldn't tell it from a brand new one. Every day I've had it I felt like I was getting into a new car every morning going to work. This Pontiac is everything the dealer said it was, and more. This lady had the oil changed every 3,000 miles and I'm going to keep with that schedule, but I think I switch from Castrol GT to Valvoline High Milage. No leaks, no drips, no problems running it up to 100mph and it was as steady as a rock. That 3.8L V-6 was just about to its limit, however.
Paid cash and walked out with the title in my hand. I've had it three weeks now and have driven the heck out of it on our mountain roads. What a bunch of fun that has been.
Couldn't install a Crutchfield CD player without giving up my steering-wheel audio controls, so instead I added an XM receiver, and that's got to be the best $100 I ever spent. I got a Delphi Roady2 from Crutchfield, and it even included the home kit for hooking it into our existing amp.
So I'm grinning, and I wish the same for all of you.
She had to give a magnificent performance, otherwise the character of her grandfather would've stolen the whole movie.
I've re-watched (rewatched) it twice since the first time, and it just seems to get better with every viewing.
(The grandmother character performance was the most forgettable ever, eh?)
Yet the spell checker in Word continues to insist we hyphenate words that no longer require it in common usage.
And who's the King of the World, anyway? Microsoft, or the rest of us?
don't answer that...
LOL, could be that he nailed her. The size of the wedding became a topic over lunch today, and most of us agreed that the party who is most wounded in all this is her poor father, who was so busy writing and signing checks that he never knew she was gone.
After reading all of Hoople's replies, I can see that I need to find a copy of Rabbit Proof Fence. And soon.
I watched Whale Rider with my granddaughters. At first I thought it was going to be a Disney-like feature, but I quickly changed my mind as I became engaged in the story line, if not the character development.
Like you, I give it a 3.
To me, the series of books was unforgettable. Kind of like Lord of the Rings. IMHO, the capper was So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish.
I was watching Miami in the NBA playoffs, the Cubs in MLB, and the Nextel Cup race. I tuned in the race about 2 laps before the big pile up. The Cubbies went from the 6th inning to the 8th inning before the race got restarted. The last 30 minutes of the race was really exciting. But number 24 just had too much for the rest of them.
OK, I'm off of Dell's case for a while at least. I had a problem with one of our LCD monitors and I called support, talked to a person who spoke English as a first language and who took care of my problem in about 3 minutes by sending out a new monitor.
Hard to find anything to nit pick there.
BTW he was in Tennessee.
I read that book sometime back in the 70's. I've carried a towel around with me ever since. I can't wait to see the movie.
"Hello, thank you for calling Dell sales, how may I help you?"
"Hi, I'd like to order a 19" LCD TV, two dozen chocolate cake, and one dozen hot glazed, please."
"Oh, sorry sir, the TV will ship tomorrow, but the donuts won't ship until the middle of next week."
*sigh*
Going to go head-to-head with the stock cars running at Talledega, Alabama. Billed as "the world's fastest racetrack".
I watched part of a race from there yesterday evening, there was a 17 car wreck on lap 17. Is this what draws so many NASCAR fans, the wrecks? One car went over on its roof, and several others were torn up beyond belief, but every driver walked away! Stringent safety equipment and rules, I gather.
What was even more amazing was that some of these badly damaged cars went into their pit, the crew taped them all back together with "100-mile-an-hour-tape" and they finished the race.
I'll have to cop to being a huge drag race fan, but the cult of personality thing with the drivers at NASCAR just leaves me cold. And me a Southern lad, at that.
I guess that depends on which shift you work, eh?
Well, wouldn't you just know it! The Dell is the best value by far. For $700 you get 16:9 aspect, 600:1 contrast (very good), and a next-business-day replacement if it shoots craps.
And free shipping...
Groan! I would have to eat a ton of crow over at Sublime's board if I bought something from Dell now. But I'll check it out. I'm not one to let pride stand in the way of saving money. Actually, I have no pride anyway.
I'm pondering the purchase of a small LCD television. I've been pricing a Sharp 20" and it looks like I can get it on-line for about $700. Anyone have any specific likes or dislikes in the LCD tv market?
Well, I suspect The Three Princes of Serendip are enjoying a nice hot bowl of soup right now.
And so proven once again that in America, you can become famous and rich by sheer serendipity.
MINNEAPOLIS - The police chief wants to license panhandlers, saying it would make it easier for officers to manage aggressive begging in Minnesota's largest city.
Under the plan, panhandlers would have to register each year at a government center and have their picture taken. Anyone failing to wear an ID badge would be jailed for 30 days, and possibly fined.
"The idea is not to penalize people or make them go away," Chief William McManus said Wednesday. "It's just a way to govern how they conduct their business."
Minneapolis already bans panhandling in front of cash machines, bus stops and restrooms.
McManus said he's talked to the City Council about the idea. If a law passed, the city would join a handful of others that license beggars, such as Cincinnati, Dallas and Greensboro, N.C.
Cincinnati's licensing ordinance is being challenged by civil liberties groups that claim begging is protected speech.
Mayor R.T. Rybak said he's not sure he'll support the plan. "I'm interested in looking at innovative ways to handle this, but we need to know more about the details," he said.
Robert Yellow Wolf, a homeless man panhandling on an interstate off-ramp, called the plan "ridiculous," but said: "When you're homeless, you have no say."

Interesting. I've noticed this pattern on a stock I've been scalping occasionally, HEPH. If you have the time and inclination, look at what it has done on the open the past 3 days (Mon, Tue, and Wed). I got a nice payback from having my butt handed to me last Friday.
Maria just said "energy initiative" without a single slip of the lip or a bobble of the tongue.
So there's your market forecast for today.
ROFL! Good one. ~em~
LOL. "...a man posing stiffly on a platform..." The first time I read that, I thought it said "a man posing stiffy on a platform".
I have a warped sense of humor. Either that, or I'm just plain sick.
Hell's bells, I wish the market would go on and close before I lose all of the day's gains!
Buzz, tell 'em to close up shop RIGHT NOW.
Nice and sunny here today. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist the chocolate and ate it all before I could make it outside.
Oh well...
