Going to go head-to-head with the stock cars running at Talledega, Alabama. Billed as "the world's fastest racetrack".
I watched part of a race from there yesterday evening, there was a 17 car wreck on lap 17. Is this what draws so many NASCAR fans, the wrecks? One car went over on its roof, and several others were torn up beyond belief, but every driver walked away! Stringent safety equipment and rules, I gather.
What was even more amazing was that some of these badly damaged cars went into their pit, the crew taped them all back together with "100-mile-an-hour-tape" and they finished the race.
I'll have to cop to being a huge drag race fan, but the cult of personality thing with the drivers at NASCAR just leaves me cold. And me a Southern lad, at that.
