SSKILLZ1: LOL you used OT on your post. What exactly is the topic here? Everything is fair game.
On a lighter note: Interesting summary of Avian Flu in the WSJ today.
In a few cases, handlers of fighting birds got sick after giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to an injured bird.
That is dedication to the sport!!!
100 million infected birds at a minimum, only 121 human infections so far. Contact with blood, feces or French Chicken Kisses. YUCK
The new Bush plan calls for stockpiling 20 million doses of vaccines to combat flu. I think that they plan to allow democrat senators to get the first shots, especially the NY senators. Then any known Chicken Kissers can apply for the next round of shots.
{this is not taken verbatim from the WSJ}
Wilson denies your assertion regarding who/why he was sent. Someone is lying and it is not ME or you.
I doubt the truth shall be known . . .
added; gotta love it!
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney replaced I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby as his national security adviser on Monday with an aide identified by a former Iraqi exile group as the White House official to whom it fed information on Iraq that turned out to be erroneous.
Democrats will threaten filabuster, make some side deals and trades with Bush & Company. In the end Alito will be confirmed. Politicans only care about POWER, most don't care who sits on the Court.
Democrats should be working on a real platform if they intend to win back control of anything.
As for ScooterGate, I can't for the life of me imagine that we should be led to think that nobody in the White House is guilty of outing Ms. CIA. What a joke. Why should administration officials be discussing a CIA agent with anyone within or outside of the White House. It is a treasonous act, which most likely will go unpunished. Fitzgerald could be the future Attorney General of US, if he plays his Andrew CARDS right. Sacrifice one Scooter for the good of Bush & Co., not a bad deal for them.
WCCAWA & kodiak149: Thanks...
Will try ewido... Have been using Microsoftie Beta, it found a few items when I first installed it and since then has not found anything or blocked anything, so I removed it the other day.
EWIDO found quite a few items. Many of them were quarantined from Spybot or other programs, several were new items.
BT: Run Adaware, Spybot S&D and A good antivirus like AntiVir.[/b}
I use Adaware & Spybot already. Also use McAfee AntiVirus. I ran AntiVir last night and my computer is pretty clean. I also tried Xoftspy demo and it showed IBIS/Hunt Toolbar - Which from what I can tell seems to be a false positive, trying to sucker me into buying the software.
I am sticking with Opera, as it runs much faster..........
I await your new TERMINATOR info, and will create a new monster to deal with from that!
Bruce:
1. How come it does not show up when using Opera?
2. How do I get rid of the bugger?
tia
OPERA browser: After running pcpitstop tests I realized that IE was causing my CPU usage to stay 100% all the time. Now with OPERA I am running much faster. However, pcpitstop will not test using anything but IE or a browser that is based on IE.
ALSO, more importantly the counters for posts read on IHUB do not reset under Opera.
Any idea's?
How is this possible?
But it looks like many people have noticed the same thing about yesterdays rally as I have and that is even though the market was up more on Friday than it was down on Thursday, stocks in general did not recover as much on Friday as they went down on Thursday.
Obviously in the total market, stocks recovered and then some. Just a rotation from some stocks to others (Parity?). This goes to the heart of a Total Stock market index approach ala Bob Brinker.
I noticed that the VTI's did slightly better than the SPY's.
echos: We agree, that is exactly what I said if you read what I wrote. Eminent Domain done as originally created is not about capitalism. When it is abused, it can be as you say.
echos: you said "In a purely capitalistic society, it's ok to kick grandma to the curb to help increase tax revenues and allow for new economic growth. As long as granny gets fair value for her home of course. The community will prosper from new business, and new jobs, etc. etc."
This makes no sense. Eminent Domain has nothing to do with capitalism. The government has granted itself the right to sieze property for "fair" compensation for the "public good" (road, park, etc.). This has been skewed to mean steal the land from somebody so we can boost revenues.
Not entirely sure what you meant, just clarifying it for my own peace of mind!
OTC: The author has been on GWB's case for awhile. She was deeply involved as speechwriter for Reagan & Bush Sr. I think she feels like GWB is a major let down from her past bosses.
The following statement from her seems to be a gentle rebuke of GWB. I would not be surprised if Bush Sr. did not write it for her. LOL
"Let me veer back to the president. One of the reasons some of us have felt discomfort regarding President Bush's leadership the past year or so is that he makes more than the usual number of decisions that seem to be looking for trouble. He makes startling choices, as in the Miers case. But you don't have to look for trouble in life, it will find you, especially when you're president. It knows your address. A White House is a castle surrounded by a moat, and the moat is called trouble, and the rain will come and the moat will rise. You should buy some boots, do your work, hope for the best."
len: It is a good article. She obviously does not like GWB. He has not lived up to Conservative ideals. She also seems to agree that he is not capable of handling the Presidency. Her doubt that nobody can handle the job is scary!
At some point in every generation people throw up their hands and think that things have changed to much or are moving to fast. Mankind/Womenkind, has a great capacity to adapt to changes, I think that we will adapt to whatever is thrown at us.
I remember watching the daily clips from Vietnam on TV with my parents and thinking it was hopeless, the world was going to end shortly. Why even think about marriage, children, etc.
The Teddy Kennedy story is priceless. That SOB should have done a 30 year prison term for killing Mary Jo Kopechne. Have some more Vodka Teddy!
MDF: I got out of this company after last earnings. Any thoughts on a reentry point. Has been slowly fading. They are putting current earnings & cashflow into building HMO. Could be several quarters before earnings start to build?
eom
gtober: yes i got a Zone Alarm update pop up today... i tried the for pay Zone Alarm Suite recently. i had many problems with it so i went back to the free version. they made it pretty easy to get my $$$ back.
BAT-man, if I may call you that. ROTFLMAO.... What a touching eulogy!!!
Amen
Bruce: Sorry!! The product you are looking for is sold out.
the other site said :"discountinued"
Terminator: I have been unsucessful in finding the Asus MB for the Terminator. Anyone have any luck recently or do you have a replacement. TIA
larrybaz: SVL: I am long and can't imagine why I got caught up in it. I hate the industry, just went along with the mania one day. I have a lowball buy order in for something else and will take my SVL loss if the other order fills.
Instead of the Military, we could use the Boy Scouts. Then of course we would have to have a parent accompany them on the mission. They could even drag along a few Cub Scouts to give them a feel for the future.
Ever get shot with a pellet from a sling shot, Ouch!
larrybaz: Keep on posting. Very curious to see how it goes. How many years will we be hanging on to see the end result?
dvm: Wireless: I use a Belkin Pre N router with matching notebook and desktop cards. Great reception in a large 3 story house. Previous notebook card had lousy reception in the house. Good customer service/technical help is provided free.
OT; ROTFLMAO
bobwins: Have a nice trip.
1. I love the 6:30 am start. By 1 pm the day is still young and I can get other things done.
2. Naked shorting is really cold in the Northwest, better to wear some clothes while shorting! <g>
In fact, little more than one quarter into fiscal '06, the company has estimated that the backlog from recent orders "will amount to $8,500,000."
With some good follow through, that number could grow large! No reason this could not be $5.00 next year. Just wish the PR campaign was more professional. Not sure I like these kind of website promotions that don't seem to bring in long term buyers. Not much volume on 2 news releases and email follow-ups.

He is someone to listen to. I think today's action has much to do with this story.
Legg Mason's Bill Miller Views the Market as 'Very Attractive Short Term' on Consuelo Mack WealthTrack
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2005--In an exclusive interview Friday, October 14, legendary money manager Bill Miller, chief executive officer and chief investment officer of The Legg Mason Value Trust, told Consuelo Mack WealthTrack he expects a significant market rally. Miller has beaten the market for an unprecedented 14 years in a row by thinking long term. But in a rare television interview Miller told WealthTrack's Consuelo Mack: "I think in the short term the market is actually quite attractive. The stock market is down this year. It's not down because the economy is bad or corporate profits are bad or anything is wrong. It's down for two macro reasons. Oil prices have gone up a lot and the Fed has tightened 12 times. Both of those macro reasons are either ending or about to end in my judgment.
"Oil prices appeared to have peaked out at 70-85 the day after Katrina. They've been down 15 percent since then. They were weak today and you're seeing demand destruction; you're seeing consumer behavior change; you're seeing the Asian countries stop some of the subsidies; you're seeing China's demand for oil dropping. So you're seeing a lot of things that drove up oil prices ending; you're seeing oil prices coming down. That removes one of the major impediments to the stock market going up.
"The other is the Fed. I think that many people thing that the Fed is going to tighten two or three more times. It is far from clear to me that either they are going to do that or either that they need to do that. But in any case, in the last set of Fed minutes, several governors did raise the questions about whether they shouldn't change their language about 'measured pace'. Any indication from the Fed that they are nearing the end of the tightening will cause the market to anticipate the end of that tightening, which in most cases would not be more than one or two Fed meetings away.
"That would remove both impediments to the market going up. So you're likely to see why you certainly could see in the short run the market rally quite significantly.
"You are also seeing a change of leadership from the old leadership which was oil, commodities, those sorts of thing, to a new leadership which would be, in our judgment, where the values are today, are in the large mega cap companies, the top companies in the S & P."

otc: Apparently Republican officials cooked up a conspiracy to tell the truth about Mr. Wilsons intent and told the truth about his lies and that must result in Republicans being punished. Meanwhile the opposition can get away with anything.
Last I checked Republicans controlled the White House, Congress, The Senate and soon The Supreme Court.
Democrats are sure getting away with anything!

stiv: thanks, can't honestly say that I have called microsoft for support since my first win95 install. and they were not much help.
I am full of questions today: What's wrong with this deal?

Any reason to pay $140 from Newegg? Is above a scam?

Bruce:
You are right on SACD, not many sold. I have a small collection of them and have a bear of a time playing them on my dvd player. Figured a drive by someone else would work better.
As far as Win 2000, for me it has been solid except for a laserjet 3200 driver which always crashes the machine. I switched that out to a more generic HP driver and it runs well. Just need more speed now, and I am jealous of my sons XP box. Can't handle it when a 9 year old can out do me. LOL
What would you recommend as compatible for DVD writing with this system?
Bruce re: Terminator: Couple of questions,
1. do you know of any company making an internal cd/dvd that would support SACD disks. not just the hybrid cd layer.
2. many years ago 5+ i had 2 AMD based machines, one running W98 and the other NT. both machines had some software compatibility issues. are the current generation of AMD chips "rock solid" on compatibility?
TIA
Terminator: Just checked out the parts list for the terminator. Does that motherboard still exist on the newegg site? Could not find it. If not, what would be the replacement?
TIA
Clever:GFCI, why did they do the Shell deal to become public with such great earnings and cash flow staring them in the face. Ready to sign on when someone can explain that minor point.
Homelandsecuritystocks does not seem to have much of an effect. Low volume so far. Anyone know if they have a larger reach?
wccawa: sorry i did the anonymous test and did not see how to take the results away. next time i run it i will post.
thanks again -
wccawa: I assume you want the defrag utility,
http://www.oo-software.com/
eamonnshute: wccawa: Thanks for the tips. Did the pcpitstop tests and then deleted 50% of the startup crap. There was even an HP inkjet monitor from a printer I got rid of 2 years ago. Also downloaded a trial of O&O defrag software. This also helped alot.
Should be able to get a few more miles out of this computer.
