Another track and trace initiative, rising tide, glad I'm in the boat and not standing on the beach!
Jewelry sector has Global J-ID Label Scheme
December 16, 2009 (Hong Kong)
Shoppers and traders of jewelry products will have no problem tracing and verifying the product information, thanks to the world’s first Global Jewelry Identity (Global J-ID) Management Label Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA), with the technical support of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).
Funded by the SME Development Fund of the Trade and Industry Department, the initiative features a unique Global J-ID technology that enables encrypted product data of jewelry to be translated into a 2D barcode. Measuring a mere 3mm x 1mm, each Global J-ID is laser-inscribed in the product, containing comprehensive data, such as producer code, materials and quality, as proof of authenticity.
Mr Sunny Chan, Chairman of HKJMA, said, “Hong Kong is the world’s leading jewelry exporter with total value exceeding US$4 billion per year. Jewelry is among the top five export earners of Hong Kong. To increase consumer and industry confidence in Hong Kong jewelry products, HKJMA drew on the technical expertise of HKPC to develop the Global J-ID. With standardized codes on product description, Global J-ID will also facilitate the development of testing and certification services for the jewelry industry.”
Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC, said, “Global J-ID addresses the industry’s need for solution in product traceability. With enhanced credibility, it will raise the image of Hong Kong jewelry products in the Mainland and internationally. Further ahead, we are looking into new initiatives to raise the service quality of retailers and assist the industry to tap opportunities in the Mainland domestic market.”
Overseeing the Scheme is the Global J-ID Management Board chaired by Mr Aaron Shum, Consultant of HKJMA. He said, “Setting a new standard in product value, Global J-ID will become a common language among industry players.”
On the consumer front, Ms Connie Lau, Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, said the Scheme can increase consumer confidence. She hopes that the frontline sales people will demonstrate how to retrieve the product data in the Global J-ID to the consumers.
Prior to the launch, three jewelers have participated in a pilot scheme. Jewelry products certified with the Global J-ID are now available at their outlets.
Launch was also attended by Mr Louis Lo, Chairman of The Gemmological Association of Hong Kong, Mr Lawrence Ma, President of Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China, and Mr William Wong, Chief Executive of Luk Fook Group, which is one of the pilot companies.

Technology dawns at the Son
As bandwidth improves and cellphone handsets become more technologically advanced, more and more Internet traffic will migrate to mobile devices. While navigating the mobisites has been easy, the problem has been reaching the sites. The URLs are long and, more often than not, users end up at the wrong site and give up in frustration.
That was until the advent of 2D barcodes that allow you to click, link and go straight to the site.
*********************************
Ads24 and Son (die Son sien alles), published in the Cape and read by more than 600 000 readers, made publishing history by adopting this technology to fast track the content to their tech-savvy readers.
A comprehensive study recently showed that Son readers were more tech-ready and literate than those of most other publications and, when the campaign broke on Wednesday, 25 November 2009, the WAP-server was overrun within the hour for requests - once again proving the Mother Grundy technophobes wrong.

With the exception of the Aug 14th financing, which was made public in the Q that was released the same day if I'm not mistaken, all previous financing packages were made public via 8k. My assumption is - no 8k=no new financing. Might be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time
NEOM burn rate is around $500k/ month
Date of last financing = August 14, 2009
Currently equates to at least $2million in revenue.
Is NEOM at cash flow breakeven/positive? Is the revenue sustainable?
Are we finished with the drip financing and have we turned the corner?
The longer we go without additional YA financing, the better I feel about my investment! GLTA
Thanks for the .0115's btw to whomever was willing to let'em go for that!
IBM cooking up new ways to track source of food-borne illnesses
Chang said IBM is proposing the creation of an advanced food product database, backed by the Food and Drug Administration, that would reside in a flexible data center setup called a "cloud," which would be able to connect to thousands of food suppliers over the Internet.
That way, even the smallest farmer with a smart phone or bar code scanning device and Internet access would be able to send product information over the Internet to the food tracking network.

Just remember that every share that YA sells into the market reduces NEOM debt load and returns ownership to the shareholders. How much did we reduce the debt load today? This will end at some point, so long as the co doesn't need to go back for more financing. All individual shareholders really need to decide what position they want to be in as a shareholder when it does? I for one do not want to get caught trying to improve my position but good luck to those that are doing so. Wonder how they would have felt having sold at .017 and waiting on .012 if this mornings PR would have said something like NEOM retires debt with YA global!! GLTA

Can 'direct' do this??
IMO It's all about what works best for the brands since they will be the ones providing the revenue!
USAGE EXAMPLES
The following example demonstrates how the functionality would be provided for a target company subscribing to the linkage server of the present invention.
A soap manufacturers' European operation wishes to introduce a new deodorant soap targeting younger, physically active consumers and wishes to test the market in Austria (AT), only. For Austrian inquirers in the 18-34 age group regardless of gender, the manufacturer wishes to deliver a message that includes links to special promotions. The Linkage Server's customer is an Austrian magazine publisher that has an information server at their site. The magazine publisher's customer is the soap manufacturer who buys one advertisement in an issue of the magazine. The soap manufacturers' art department has prepared three Web pages that describe the new brand of soap: one for the targeted segment (ages 18-34, AT), one for Austrians generally (ages 17 and under, ages 35 and over), and one for all others. The magazine publisher information server administrators would then enter data specifying that AT inquirers in the 18-34 age group be directed to a Web page that includes links to promotions, that other AT inquirers be directed to a second page, and that all others be directed to a third page.
Since the magazine is mapping only one advertisement in one issue of their magazine, the information server's administrators use the interactive interface. In the first instance, hits would be logged "red" and "blue", in the second "red", and in the third undifferentiated hits.
Complex Expression With Replication In Batch
Having successfully test marketed their new deodorant soap in Austria, the soap manufacturer now orchestrates an advertising campaign throughout Europe. Their plan includes advertisements in regional editions of the magazine. The soap manufacturer wishes to deliver identical messages in different languages within some regions, and different messages in other regions. The linkage system's customer is the magazine who has an information server at their site. The soap manufacturers' art department has now prepared fifty Web pages that market the new brand of soap. The soap manufacturer informs the magazine that the first thirty Web pages share viewer selection (profile) criteria excepting language. The magazine's information server administrators would then use the batch interface to map codes. For convenience in administration, the magazine publishers personnel use a selection criteria replication feature to economize keystrokes and eliminate needless repetition.
Has this patent been explored on this forum before? I am interested in comments regarding the bolded text. Sometimes these patents are hard to follow by a layman so I am hoping someone can help de-obfuscate it for me.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Provided is a method and system for providing a data resource referred to as a primary content file from a content server computer to a client computer, both of which are interconnected over a computer network, wherein an information server computer, a routing server computer, and a registration server computer are also interconnected to the network to assist in providing the primary content file. The present invention operates by inputting into the client computer a linkage code that includes a server identification code and an item identification code. The client computer extracts the server identification code from the linkage code, and then obtains a URL template associated with the server identification code. The URL template includes the name of an information server and at least one parameter field to be completed by the client computer. The URL template is completed by the client computer by filling in at least the item identification code obtained from the linkage code, and the completed URL template is then sent as a primary content URL request to the information server named therein. At the information server, the location of the primary content file is determined based at least on the item identification code, and the information server redirects the client computer to the content server to retrieve the primary content file. Alternatively, the information server retrieves the primary content file from local storage and sends it directly to the client without the need for redirection to the content server computer.
The linkage code may be a machine-readable code such as a bar code symbol, which is scanned by a bar code scanning device connected to the client computer. In the alternative, the linkage code may be a human-readable alphanumeric text string that is typed into the keyboard of the client computer.
After entering the linkage code, the client computer first attempts to retrieve the URL template from a local cache. The local cache has a plurality of template records, each record having a server identification code, an associated URL template, and an expiration date. The client computer uses the server identification code extracted from the linkage code to retrieve the associated URL template and expiration date. The template record is not used, however, if the current date is later than the expiration date. In this event, or if there is no entry for that server identification code in the local cache (or if local cache is not implemented), then the URL template is retrieved from the routing server on the network.
When the routing server is used, it will access a template database and return to the client computer a URL template and a current expiration date associated with the server identification code. The client computer then updates the local cache with the URL template and the current expiration date received from the routing server.
In addition to the item identification code, the URL template may be completed by the client computer by filling in certain user data. The user data may be a user identification number, and may also include information such as the gender of the user, the age of the user, the preferred language of the user, certain predefined interests of the user, and/or the geographic location of the user. The user data is retrieved from memory in the client computer, or it may be retrieved from a user database located on the registration server, wherein the user database is populated by the users during a registration process.
Once the completed URL template is received by the information server, it may use, in addition to the item identification code, the populated user data in order to generate and/or determine the location of the primary content file.
The client computer is redirected to the content server by the information server when it sends a primary URL to the client computer indicating the location of the primary content file (i.e. the URL). The information server may log the primary content URL request in a hit log. The information server may then communicate with the registration server to obtain further information linked to a user identification code from the hit log and thus determine more about the user that entered the linkage code.
In order to provide increased system security, the user identification code may be obfuscated prior to being sent to the information server. The obfuscated user identification code is sent from the information server to the registration server, where the user identification code is de-obfuscated and the user identification information is provided to the information server.

I agree wholeheartedly that the MESSAGING INTERCHANGE SYSTEM application is very important and will carry significant value if patented. I also believe it will be/was the basis of the interoperability pilot that NeuStar PR'd last year and future campaigns. I think it is completly independent of the 048 patent and is a new invention. Our only disagreement today is that I do believe that YA has a security interest in the application.
Published applications basically put the world on notice that this method is claimed as a new invention to the inventing party and if you choose to copy the process you may be subject to litigation for infringement. This is my interpretation anyway, perhaps someone that is more versed in patent law than I can weigh in also.

US Federal And State Government Push For Open Government To Provide More Transparency and Accountability
Source: The White House
Published Monday, 23 November, 2009 - 21:04
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Obama Administration is taking unprecedented strides toward creating the most open and accountable government in history. And in so doing, we’re learning from those states and municipalities, which are undertaking exciting experiments to bring transparency, participation, and collaboration to the way they work as well.
Inspired by the President’s call for more open government, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts launched its data catalogue, following in the footsteps of Washington, DC, San Francisco, New York, and elsewhere around the country (as well as cities in Canada and the UK), to provide public access to information by and about government. What makes this exciting is not merely having transportation information available in machine-readable formats, but that professional and amateur enthusiasts can then get together, as they did last weekend, to create new software applications and data visualizations to better enable public transit riders to track arrival times for the next subway, bus, or ferry. Publishing government information online facilitates this kind of useful collaboration between government and the public that transforms dry data into the tools that improve people’s lives. (For another great example, check out what happened when we published the Federal Register for people to use.)
The National Association of State CIOs is helping to spur this movement toward greater data transparency at the state level by publishing “Guidance for Opening the Doors to State Data.”
Just as the federal government is using online brainstorming with government employees and the public to generate ideas for saving money or going green, state and local governments are also using new technology to tap people’s intelligence and expertise. The City of Manor, Texas (pop. 5800) has launched “Manor Labs,” an innovation marketplace for improving city services. A participant can sign up to suggest “ideas and solutions” for the police department, the municipal court, and everything in between. Each participant’s suggestion is ranked and rewarded with “innobucks.” These innobucks points can be redeemed for prizes: a million innobucks points wins “mayor for the day” while 400,000 points can be traded for a ride-along with the Chief of Police.
Manor is also one of the few cities currently using bar codes (known as QR or Quick Response Codes) to label physical locations around town. These bar codes can be scanned with a mobile phone to communicate historical and touristic information, data about the cost of a municipal service, or emergency management information. Manor is experimenting with techniques for providing different information to different audiences. If a resident scans a QR code outside a home for sale, she gets the floor plan and purchase price; whereas the building inspector gets the inspection history; and the first responder gets information about the current occupant.
As more of these innovative projects that foster open government go live and achieve results, we look forward to showcasing some of them on our blog and eventually making details available on the Open Government Innovation Gallery. Developers with new tools to offer to facilitate open government – including free social media applications -- should also check out Apps.gov and list their products (here’s how) for others to use. Openness and accountability are the responsibility of government at every level. By getting out the word about innovations that help to realize open government in practice, we can both promote new experiments and help people find and re-use the best ones.

MESSAGING INTERCHANGE SYSTEM
Bid Farewell To Coupon Clipping?
Yee is not alone among retailers having concerns about direct phone barcode scans; others are complaining about glare or even excessive dirt impacting read rates. But the A&P exec said his concerns are more generic, as in "the imaging of the mobile device itself and the readability of the barcode on the mobile."
Another factor is that chains need to deal with a staggeringly large number of different phones, with very different screens, and they must interface with all of them with the same barcode scanning wand.
That's pushing Yee to focus on true back-end server services, where the phone-just like the digital coupons that the chains are just now starting to accept-acts solely as an authenticator, an identification device. The real data communications happen on the backend, server to server. In a sense, it's treating both the phone and the POS station as dumb terminals, with the real magic happening elsewhere in a more controlled environment.

(54) Title (EN): MESSAGING INTERCHANGE SYSTEM
(54) Title (FR): SYSTÈME D’ÉCHANGE DE MESSAGES
(57) Abstract:
(EN): Machine-readable codes are read, decoded and resolved by a messaging system in order to perform a desired function. If the code is not native to that (home) messaging system, then a resolution request is made to a central messaging interchange system to determine which other (destination) messaging system is native to and can resolve that code. The messaging interchange system then either returns the appropriate routing information back to the home messaging system (in which case the home messaging system sends the resolution request directly to the destination messaging system) or forwards the resolution request to the destination messaging system itself. The destination messaging system transmits a resolution response message to the home messaging system, either directly or via the messaging interchange system

I agree with your conclusions, there is a discrepancy here and somethings up.

Any theory as to why YA stopped converting Series C and started converting debentures on Oct 26?
What is your take on this?

PS the Series C didn't exist 4 years ago, can you be a bit more specific please?
Hi YJ, I've been there and done that and I agree completely.
The Series C convertible preferred stock is currently classified outside of Shareholders’ Equity in the mezzanine section of our balance sheet. The change in estimate in the number of shares converted resulted in a reduction in the preferred stock outstanding of approximately $5.6 million, and a corresponding reduction in the accumulated deficit of $3.0 million related to the deemed dividends, and $2.6 million recorded as an increase to additional paid in capital.
This "distribution" of Series C is what is peaking my curiosity now. What if; YA has sold off all of their Series C to another entity whose intention is to take control? What better method of stealth could you come up with than to buy out these instruments which at a time of your choosing (if you choose) will convert into a billion shares thereby effectively buying out at least 20% of the company and not having to report it as a beneficial owner? If you coupled that with a pending agreement to pre pay all the debentures the acquiring entity would now control the IP and the senior debt of the company and YA would be out of the picture except for the warrants.
How much would it cost to take control? How much would YA require to release the stranglehold? Are they on the way out of the picture? Can we see an end to dilution altogether? So many questions, so few answers
Pure speculation on my part here, but I can envision that it just might be in the works! GLTA
No, I wouldn't read anything into that, they generally report current OS along with other information including additional financing and conversions in the subsequent events section of the reports. Take a look back at the last 10Q and you will see the same kind of information.
I wish I could answer that one but I can't. Now I am wondering how many may have been distributed (sold?) in the 3rd quarter. Perhaps all of them? Is someone else picking up an equity stake here? Could be an explanation as to why the conversion of debentures in Oct instead of Series C. Getting interesting for sure!
Glad I've got my tickets to the show!
