I agree wholeheartedly that the MESSAGING INTERCHANGE SYSTEM application is very important and will carry significant value if patented. I also believe it will be/was the basis of the interoperability pilot that NeuStar PR'd last year and future campaigns. I think it is completly independent of the 048 patent and is a new invention. Our only disagreement today is that I do believe that YA has a security interest in the application.

Published applications basically put the world on notice that this method is claimed as a new invention to the inventing party and if you choose to copy the process you may be subject to litigation for infringement. This is my interpretation anyway, perhaps someone that is more versed in patent law than I can weigh in also.
