Sarmad...your view (i.e. that there could be stock price manipulation by the big money) is further supported by this:
Intel, Archstone-Smith Trust: Money Flow Leaders (INTC, ASN)
October 5, 2007 4:48 p.m.
Intel Corp. topped the list in late trading on Friday for Buying on Weakness, which tracks stocks that fell in price but had the largest inflow of money. See the full list.

Buying on Weakness defined:
A proactive trading strategy in which a trader takes profits by closing out of a short position or buying into a long position. This strategy is used when the price of the asset being traded is still falling but is expected to reverse and move against the trader.
Of course some well timed downgrades can create the perfect environment for executing this strategy. Which I believe is essentially what you alluded to in a post yesterday (which I can't find now).
Stock performance of INTC is very disaappointing today...not sure what to make of it really. Especially considering the 4% move up in AMD. Go figure. Makes me wonder if we're all missing something here.
I think Klaus runs his posts through an english language obfuscator before posting. You have to reverse engineer his english to find out what he really means.
My hope is that the appearance of these Internet tablets from Nokia in '08 starts the competition in this space with other vendors. The result should be the new market that Dadi and Anand are counting on to drive growth in 08 and beyond.
WiMax design win at Nokia
Intel Corp (INTC.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it had won a mobile WiMax chip order from the world's top cellphone maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research), which will use its semiconductors in Internet-focused devices from 2008.

mas IS Ken Hamidi <eom>
yep, very likely this is good ole market manipulation by the big money as both you and Sarmad suggest.
Merrill's call....I see this as a bad call and the analyst is taking an unneccessary risk here. Waiting until the Q3 margins are reported would have been a better move. Should margins remain flat (+ or - 1%) then the analyst could come out and make a valuation call on INTC based on a perceived inability to control price and increase margins etc. But if margins DO come in stronger as guidance has suggested then I think this call will backfire on ML.
indeed disappointed. I have limit orders on some puts that have not fired due to the lack of any bounce in AMD.
Take Intel to the cleaners, watchdog urges...
You got to love the final line of that story:
The watchdog admitted it received financial contributions from AMD. The letter was sent to us by AMD.
market makers played me...I went out of town and they swooped in and snapped up my shares at stop losses of 23.50, 23 and 22.50. dang, serves me right losing some of my confidence in my long position, still have of lot's of INTC left though.
Sold my AMD 08 puts today for approx 115% return...downside is that one of my stop losses on INTC went off today also. More stops at 23 and 22.50, but I hope we don't hit em.
nice INTC divergence with the NASDAQ...
I like the divergence we are seeing today between INTC and the NASDAQ in this downtrending market. NASDAQ down a little but INTC is up about 37 cents. I am hoping this is NOT due to Cramer's bullish call on Intel yesterday. Could he possibly influence the market that much or are other forces at work?

I think your smily in this case denotes sarcasm, correct?

I wonder if they'll be using and promoting any new devices from Digital Health? My guess, ya.
OT: One of our engineers is asking for 40-50 copies of today's Frys ad (Friday). Is there something good in there?
Hector live on CNBC now
maybe all it takes is an aggressive sounding name for your parts...in which case I'm sure we'll see 'Hydrogen Bomb' somewhere on AMD's roadmap in the future.
can't find a url to the conference call, help!
maybe just set a stop loss in order to avoid missing out if earnings surprise to the upside
If I were an AMD employee, I would opt for the QuickSale option.
As an aside to chipguy's comments, I once sat down with a young engineer and explained to him why the ESPP was a guareenteed 15% return with almost no risk. We hashed over the numbers and discussed how the quick sale option could protect him from downside to the stock price etc. He could not get passed the fact that because 'STOCK' was involved then there must be risk somewhere. Needless to say he never did sign up for the ESPP much to my chagrin (since I liked the guy). Oh well.
OT: BofV, truly one of the finest novels ever written IMO, right up there with Heller's Catch 22
<it is about making a profit right???>
Yes, in the end it IS about the company making profit. However in the short to intermediate term it is often about stock price manipulation in order to protect the 'bagholders' and allow the Wall Street firms to make a profit by pumping and dumping etc.
We saw this happen over the past 3-4 years or so when Wall Street continued to push negative story after negative story on INTC even while the company was producing solid financials in order to drive everyone that they could out of the stock. This provided them with a nice entry point into the stock once THEY decided to begin reversing the negative information flow (which is just going on now). I see Wall Street doing the exact opposite manipulation on AMD. Holding up the stock price, encouraging accumulation of the stock at this price because the worst is behind them etc. All the while waiting until everyone that might buy AMD at these prices has done so before they reverse their position in order to capture the most profit possible. This is all JMO of course of the way Wall Street operates. Once you accept this (as I have), the best that can be hoped for is to hang around long enough and catch the crumbs that fall off the table (which can still be considerable).
The divergence with the NAS is also very encouraging for INTC longs. I get more excited when INTC is up a dime in a down market than when it's up a quarter along with everyone else.
I had a limit order go off at $25 during the regular session (before lunch PST).
The CNBC report on the 'iPhone disected' reported that Apple was making no long term agreements with any of the component manufacturers but instead would continue to be looking for the best price and performance combination for next generation products. Nothing earth shattering there, but leaves the door open for Silverthorne in '08. So far it seems that Samsung is the biggest revenue winner (other than Apple) on these devices. Samsung making either $52 or 76 in revenue per device depending on the version.
So Intel WILL have some silicon in the iPhone albeit flash memory...
Intel is one of Apple's suppliers for NOR flash memory, inside one of the very hottest consumer electronics devices of the decade. Our product is a tiny chip, barely larger than the fingernail on your pinky. It's part of the Intel Flash Memory (W18) product family and provides 32 megabytes of storage.
Perhaps this will evolve into the use of Silverthorne in 2G or 3G versions of the iPhone or is Silverthorne still too hot for use in this type of device?
I was slightly more aggressive with...
Bought -AMDMB Jan08 $10 PUTS at .38
Bought -AMDMR Jan08 $7.5 PUTS at .16
how about 'The Node Less Traveled'
Ronster, couldn't agree more...in my youth I played tennis and wanted deperately to make the college tennis team. I was cut. My conclusion from that devasting event was, 'I guess is need to work harder and try again next year'. I finally made it in my senior year (although I played in the last spot). I think most people that have ever competed themselves in anything understand what competition is all about and will never buy into Hector's argument. Unfortunately there are also the 'soccer moms' of the world that want everyone to walk away with a 'blue ribbon'. They wonder, 'why can't everyone win' so we all feel good. The question is does this group have sufficient numbers and influence to attempt to muddle with the marketplace.
ah oh....
Cramer just said Intel can go to $27 no problem. Advises buying tech. Is it time to sell our long positions?
Q3 of what year?
Intel silicon in the iPhone?
So while it seems that there will be no Intel silicon in the intial release(s) of the iPhone, is there a reasonable chance that Intel will be able to get Silverthorn or similar low power MPU into this device or is this basically a lost market for Intel? Thoughts?
As my first endeavor into option trading I picked up some AMD Jan '08 puts at $10, $7.50 and $5. I'm hoping to make some money but will get some experience in option trading at a minimum.
Do you mean Paul or any CEO using 'spectacular'? Being an accounting and marketing guy for most of those 18 years I'm thinking that Paul would not have been the one to comment publically on a new architecture.
If analyst opinions continue to gain momemtum toward INTC (translated: if the sheep come into the fold), I will become more interested in buying AMD puts. Are there any thoughts on good options plays on AMD (option date and strike price etc.)?
kind of like getting a stock tip off the Yahoo message boards. but I must admit I did it once, cost my $4K!
Should we be viewing tape out dates for penryn and nehalem as intel confidential? just curious.
BTW the new GS one year price target is $28 <eom>
Sarmad, I thought you were at $25 by end of year and high $20s end of Y08. Have you upgraded your model?
