The amount of used nuclear fuel is the key limiting factor to making nuclear power long term feasible.
See Taiwan: http://enformable.com/2015/03/taiwan-looks-globally-for-help-managing-spent-nuclear-fuel/
Thorium was why I started investing in Lightbridge.
But there are advancements being made on the reprocessing front, which are required if nuclear power wants to compete with other green energy sources.

I think that the very long term future of the human species hinges on our mastery of the atom. While solar and wind are well suited for terrestrial energy they will never provide the propulsion that gets us off this rock.
I've been a shareholder since Novastar Resources and there have been some major setbacks along the way. Fukushima, followed by the events in Russia were tough to stomach, the entire industry has been shaken.
The milestones set for 2016 have been a long time coming. The time really has come for this collection of nuclear industry superstars to put up or shut up.

Seth also announced a change in compensation
He said that management along with the board and staff agreed to receive compensation through stock to better align the interests of shareholders with the employees.
Also made a promise about focusing all financial efforts towards advancing the fuel.
Also mentioned a U.S. regulatory export agreement that was recently acquired to send all the technology to Canada and back.
I think the train is leaving the station soon, my bags are packed.
Lightbridge is in Canada because of B&W
Seth brought it up in the conference call. They basically settled on manufacturing the partial length test rods and doing the testing in Canada, foregoing that process in the U.S and instead continuing on to building of a pilot scale facility to demonstrate the manufacturing of full length rods that will be used in during the Lead Test Assembly testing in a U.S. commercial reactor (to be identified in early 2016).
He also mentioned a recently acquired U.S. export agreement for the technology to Canada.
Another mention of the political benefit to doing the work outside of Russia. :)

Westinghouse Asks EU to Tackle Russian Monopoly on Nuclear Fuel
The Moscow TimesAug. 21 2014 21:23 Last edited 21:24
U.S.-Japanese atomic group Westinghouse is lobbying the EU to break Eastern European countries' reliance on Russian nuclear fuel used to power their Soviet-era power plants, the Financial Times reported.
The diplomatic spat between the West and Russia over Ukraine has highlighted Europe's dependence on Russian natural gas amid fears of supply disruptions in winter, but Westinghouse has said that Brussels also needs to offset Russia's dominance in nuclear fuel supply to the bloc's east.
Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic exclusively use nuclear fuel rods supplied by Russian company TVEL to power their VVER nuclear reactors, which cover a significant portion of their domestic electricity needs, leaving them vulnerable to Russian retaliation against EU sanctions.

Sendai power plant restart good news for Japan – if it happens
08/01/2014
By Sharryn Dotson
Editor of Nuclear Power International
Three years ago, it looked like nuclear power in Japan was a lost cause. As the black smoke rose from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in 2011, the fears of meltdowns, radiation releases and other known and unknown dangers were fresh in people's minds. The government responded by shutting down all 48 reactors in the country by the end of 2012, vowing at one point to never restart them again.
We watched a shift with the election of a new leader and government and the implementation of stringent safety checks and upgrades, but with utilities hemorrhaging money due to those upgrades and years of not operating plants, it still seemed unlikely that any reactors would run.
http://www.power-eng.com/articles/npi/print/volume-7/issue-4/departments/enrichment/sendai-power-plant-restart-good-news-for-japan-if-it-happens.html
This author did a great job getting the perspective of the local community. She did an equally good job of getting the perspective of the corporations.
"All nine of Japan's publicly traded nuclear operators reported a loss of 3.2 trillion yen ($31 billion) since their reactors shut down."
A lot of people don't realize that the largest shareholders in these companies are public pensions from teachers to police and everyone in-between. Japan has sunk trillions of dollars of public and private money into building not only 54 commercial nuclear reactors, but an entire support system, and there are very high paying jobs throughout that industry and education chain.
Another critical problem is that the currently "idle" reactors cost millions per year to keep cool, and would cost trillions to decommission.
They can't just shut the doors and walk away, or simply build more renewables to fix this problem. Hopefully the people of Japan can find a reasonable solution, but putting the genie back in the bottle would cripple them economically for a century.
Russia and China forge new nuclear power partnership

Will Moscow get what it wants?
Putin wants global recognition of Crimea being part of Russia. Right now only Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, and Tuvalu support him. If the west gives him that, the separatists might magically be convinced to move to Crimea.
Obviously the Malaysian airliner made this a much more complicated issue.
What is the real affect on Lightbridge?
May 2014 10Q
Our plans to develop our fuel designs depend on our ability to acquire the rights to the designs, data, processes and methodologies that are used or may be used in our business in the future. If we are unable to obtain such rights on reasonable terms in the future, our ability to exploit our intellectual property may be limited.
We are currently conducting fuel assembly design and testing work in Russia through our Moscow office personnel as well as Russian research institutes and other nuclear entities that are owned or are closely affiliated with the government of the Russian Federation. We do not currently possess all of the necessary know-how or have licensing or other rights to acquire or utilize certain designs, data, methodologies or processes required for the fabrication of our fuel assemblies. If we, or a fuel fabricator to whom we license our fuel technology, desire to utilize such existing processes or methodologies in the future, a license or other right to use such technologies from the Russian entities that previously developed and own such technologies would be required. Alternatively, we would have to develop our own know-how necessary for fabrication of our metallic fuel.
Even if Lightbridge gets to keep the technology, will they still have access to the VVER market?
I hope Putin blinks soon.
Russia to Fund Component of Armenia’s Nuclear Plant
Friday, August 8th, 2014
YEREVAN (Arka)—Russia will provide Armenia with a “nuclear island” as its contribution to the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia to replace the existing one at Metzamor, Armenia’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakarian said Friday.
He said the nuclear island — a component at the heart of a reactor that houses the energy producing system — makes approximately 35% of the total cost of constructing a new facility. The remaining funding is to be secured by the Armenian government, Zakarian added, speaking at a press conference.

69th Anniversary of Hiroshima Nuclear Bombing
By Ankita Mehta
August 6, 2014 14:20 GMT
On Wednesday, Japan observed a minute of silence to mark the 69th anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
More than 45,000 people, including Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and survivors of the attack, gathered at the southern city's Peace Park to mark the anniversary of the bombing at the exact local time, 8.15 am.
On 6 August 1945, a nuclear bomb called "Little Boy" was dropped by an American B-29 bomber, the 'Enola Gay', which was flown by Colonel Paul Tibbets.
Little Boy was the first nuclear bomb, which was used in the warfare on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, according to BBC. The bomb exploded 1,900ft (580 meters) above the ground, killing more than 80,000 people instantly.
The radiation, heat and injuries took the final death toll to 135,000. Three days later, Americans dropped a second nuclear bomb called "Fat Man" on the city of Nagasaki, killing more than 40,000 people instantly.

"On July 24, 2014, a consortium that includes Lightbridge was awarded a multi-year, technical-support services contract to support an independent government agency overseeing construction of nuclear power plants. The scope of contracted services is expected to be determined in the fourth quarter of 2014."
.........
"Due to U.S. sanctions already imposed on Russia and the potential for further political and economic isolation of Russia by the United States and the European Union over its role in an ongoing conflict in Ukraine, we have been working on alternative sites outside of Russia to complete the remaining demonstration work for our metallic nuclear fuel.
........
"We have also identified, and are currently in substantive discussions with, other potential sites outside Russia that have suitable test reactor facilities and fuel fabrication capabilities that could be used for fabrication and irradiation testing of partial-length metallic fuel samples."
Thanks Putin!
Just wanted to highlight the key points. I still think there is a bunch of potential for this year. I'm really interested on how they are going to raise capital, I don't think it'll be another offering, but I'm not a banker.

India, Russia Hold Nuke Talks
July 31, 2014
India and Russia recently held discussions regarding setting up of 22 nuclear power projects in the South Asian country. Although officials of the two countries discussed the issue earlier this month, both New Delhi and Moscow did not disclose the news.
At the forum, participants agreed that JINR should play an important role in connecting Russian organisations with Indian institutes and universities, thus, facilitating mutually beneficial co-operation between the two countries in the field of scientific research. Meanwhile, a Russian official stressed that Moscow would help India implement 22 nuclear projects in the coming years. According to him, the successful implementation of these projects will help India meet its growing demand for electricity.

Turns out, Mississippi might have built a nuclear power plant, which carries proven technology, instead of an ultra-expensive plant that employs a novel yet largely unproven process of coal conversion.
Georgia Power’s Plant Vogtle is home to the first nuclear reactors in the U.S. for nearly three decades.
The Southern Company, which is building the ultra-expensive Kemper Project integrated gasification plant north of Meridian, Miss, owns Georgia Power.
