Mick
It is nice to see you have a smile on your face today. I cant see it but i am quite sure its there.
As far as me saying the stock wont be over 40.00, i believe i said that for that specific day. You were on your soapbox about shorts getting squeezed and the stock finishing above 40. there was another day you said it would finish above 39 and in both cases i said i will bet you a large pizza with toppings at your favorite pizza parlor that it would not finish above your number.
Mick, I know i gave you a hard time about your pontification on what this stock was going to do in the near future and how it affects new traders and regardless of today i will continue to keep you on your toes when you get your crazy on again, but right now i, like alot of other long time beaten and battered IDCC shareholders are smiling today as this is very good news that came out of the blue and i am quite sure no one new this was coming.
lets hope now, that with this agreement the others fold and if it does, i might send you a brand new soapbox to spout your musings from!!!
Just because you chose to voice your opinions about the future did not mean we werent all hoping that it would be true, but when you get the proverbial wedgie so many times before from hoping that this time would be different that some decided to temper our excitement until it actually happened and save ruining a nice pair of shorts.
Today is mickeybritt off limits day, but just remember tomorrow is another day!!!!! lolol
my 3 sons
Not that i am superstitious, but maybe we should stop the daily countdown to the decision on the 13th. First of all it is Friday the 13th so that is a bad omen already, but You also did it for the last decision and that did not work so well so maybe we can try something new this time around!
As i said, i am not superstitious, but i do plan to not walk under a ladder, or break glass and most certainly will stay away from black cats
mickey
Same bet as last week. One large pie with all the toppings.
no shot to get through or too 39
OLD puppy
Been away for awhile and i come back after a nice day yesterday to see the same old poster is up to his normal antics.
you can tell him until he is blue in the face but he hears what he wants to hear. While i did not got back and look at old posts I am guessing Mr Merrit has been off his radar for the last few days.
All i can say is thank you to you and My three, loop and the many others who post information that helps us understand where we are with our investment and provides an unemotional perspective on IDCC.
Have a great weekend
The Doctor has left the office
i have been having issues all day.
Cant get in using internet explorer. had to use chrome
Jist
Thanks for the well thought out response.
It appears that our board moderators felt that my post was an attack on you and as such they deleted my post but it appears it was after your reply so I am guessing you were not as offended as they were
I think your response makes a lot of sense and for those of us who have been in this stock for more then a decade probably are used to the delay game. Maybe one day we will may get smart about it and take your advice but then we would have nothing to complain about.
Seems you have your mind made up and are confortable with your decision. Cant ask for more
Good luck to you
well if it was 900 Billion we would all be rich and i think the number is 800 Million.
shorting? your silly. I have never shorted a stock in my life. Not even quite sure how to short a stock let alone do it.
So please enlighten me on what is going to happen this month?
i have never begrudge you about making money. Frankly if you make it then i will too.
yesterday you said we would hear some big information on the call today and while i did not listen to the call i am guessing nothing was said as we are down 1.65.
Now today we will hear from the Oracle of IDCC (that's you by the way) that news is coming this month. Please let me know as i would love to buy more on this info.
Silly silly man!!
i am sure you are hoping for those options you have
don't believe the street agrees with you
you keep saying that and yet they are always right.
i like you hope this will be the one time they get caught but i doubt it because they always figure out some way the weasle out
DND
Sorry did not mean anything by the "bait"
My poor use of the English language.
Just thought it was an interesting rumor that know one seemed to comment on
thanks for all your info
DND
where did you get that info from? Was it one of those rumor sites?
I am not all that big on rumors anyway as they never seem to stick, but you posted it about 30 mins ago and no one has reacted to it so I will take the bait.
I agree with data on his early post, cant get crazy with these short term movements.
jeff
they are sharks for a reason. There the biggest and baddest out there and will figure out a way to get free unscathed.
I was wondering the same thing. Does not appear the market cares all that much this morning as we are down a bit.
I realize the NAS is down considerable and so we are likely getting caught up in that today being down 1.17 without any news and there was no reason why we were up over a buck yesterday at the open either.
This is why i and others get aggravated when certain people who will remain nameless come on here puffing their chest about share price and where it is going. It is obvious with the movement all this week that no one has a clue on what is going on since no one has been right.
until we get news and not someone's guess this stock will continue to react the way it has, which is unpredictable!
frankly the swings don't bother me as i don't trade the stock or buy options but when others who are not in this stock as long as some of us are, read the unsubstantiated statements they can be duped.
yes, they read and react at their own risk when they read this and other boards, but you have to take some responsibility for what is allowed to be posted regardless if someone ends their post with MO.
Just my two cents
Aren't we giving this article more attention then it warrants? I hate to be the cold water, wet blanket here, but isn't it entirely possible that because ZTE is a Chinese company and we are in the authors mind because of a settlement/arbitration with Huawei and the agreement to play nice with the Chinese licensing regulation department that he mistakenly included zte in the press release.
Seems to me this would get a lot more attention and like you said a required press release from idcc announcing this since the only reason to take them out of the complaint is because there is some sort of agreement between the 2 companies similar to what is going on with Huawei.
Just seems to me to an innocuous mention that we may have a bit of wishful thinking.
I hope it is true but I doubt it.
just my two cents
Doc
wow the volume is pathetic!
not sure it is any big deal, but isn't it a pretty odd coincidence that it came out after the close on the evening before the 4th quarter numbers are out???
and we have another option buyer who expects the stock to go up everyday
tomorrow is the quarterly report, people are being cautious as they have burned too many times
sounds like you have expiring options again!!
wont you ever learn
Ghors
In the past our argument always was, that the NOk's of the world had to license with us because it was deemed that we held essential patents and that we offered frandly rates and as such we always felt like we got screwed by the ITC for not ruling of infringement accordingly
I think in the back of our minds we might have questioned since we could not seem to get relief from the ITC that maybe we did not have the essential patents that idcc said we had all along.
So here is the question, with Judge Essex bringing to light a question over essential patents this could be a game changer both ways. Will he be the one to decide if they are essential? if so then he has idcc future in his hands, right? since saying yes or no to it being essential can be a whole lot more impactful than the debate over whether we have offered fair licensing rates which as I can tell is quite subjective.
La fan
interesting post.
I wont necessarily take each point and comment as I am certainly no market or shorting expert, but I do understand people and how they react to the information they read
Frankly I don't have an issue with someone who is short idcc or any stock in general as long as they are upfront with it from the start. I don't believe there are many posters that have come out and said, look I have some of those 5 millions shares shorted because of this or that. the are wolfs in sheeps clothing
They tend to provide negative feedback that in many cases is without merit and try and cause people to overreact to positive or negative posting while hiding behind their computer claiming they are long, but really short. Be honest upfront and I think this board will except you.
note I have been especially critical of mickey as positive feedback without supporting back up or merit is just as bad as the negative. mickey is positive and negative. just this week he wants managements heads, but today I saw where he said, he expected a Samsung settlement, a new apple contract and nokia would pay up!!!! talk about flip flopping. according to him management is a waste of the air they breath, but he expects those 3 things and a 100 dollar stock. I guess management does not need to be involved to make those things happen.
What makes this board so popular is that it provides a lot of industry information as well as legal info and no I don't believe it should be for longs only as long as the shorts are open and honest upfront and provide information (even if it is negative) that is factual and not just something they throw out to get people to overreact.
Just my two cents worth.
I agree with you Jim.
This board has repeatedly lamented how terrible the apple contract was and how we may make more money after it expires.
How can such substantial reduction in the share price be caused by apples low sales on the 5C? no way.
the stock has been down since we had a blow out qtr and really with the exception of a few days has been down continually
Jist1
Well said!
I believe this board has so much to offer and I use it to keep up with new developments especially as it relates to legal matters. We are lucky to have so many knowledgeable contributors when it comes to the industry and all legal happenings that it is a shame when it turns into posts with no supporting facts other then a "gut feeling" or an itchy palm
The last few weeks I have stayed away not for any other reason then being too busy to check in and when I saw the stock moving up a few days last week I checked in to see what if anything was going on and I saw posts that were simple pie in the sky irresponsible posts and it gets frustrating.
The fact is when it comes to this stock and how the share price reacts, no one and I mean no one has been close to being right about how it reacts to positive or negative news other then maybe the people shorting this stock as they have a far better average then the many who post about what is going to happen.
Not sure how many new people or for that matter old people who left for greener pastures check in to see what is going on and I think they get either a false sense of security or a negative perspective when the read these certain post.
ending your post with JMO doesn't get your off the hook for posting drivel.
enough said, will go back to our regularly scheduled programming!!!
hey i have tuition to pay for too!!!!!!!
GBR
Did I miss something?
I see this information is dated today and yet that elected to not list the arbitration agreement.
They laid out all the history of the case and how we lost in 2 places yet conveniently left out what we feel is a resolution to their dispute which we hit a 2 strike pitch up the middle!!!
This is what has concerned me from when this came down. I know loop was quite stern with me that this is the way to go and that regardless we have a settlement in principal.
I have had enough experience with China and their way of doing things that it is hard to trust them and I said that because after we got the second strike Huawei could have used that to say, "hey I know we have been negotiating a arbitration approach, but now that itc ruled in our favor I am thinking there is no need to sign that settlement agreement as this could go on for sometime"
Just hope they are honorable and that this agreement is not a way to draw us into the Chinese web that we cant get out
OD
thanks for the link.
Wishful thinking I guess.
I just love the term "binding arbitration" that really is not completely binding!!!!!
Have to love our legal system
OD
I always wondered why they have a Non Binding and a Binding arbitration since in both cases there can be an appeal of sorts. NOK clearly chosen that approach.
When they negotiate the arbitration guidelines can they write in there that this is final win or lose? Meaning the accept the arbiters ruling no matter what?
miller
I was not saying it was following baseball rules!. Olddog mentioned that there was some talk about using the baseball rules to decide on frand disputes and all I did was find the explanation of how bsseballs rules work.
I did not read Olddogs post completely because he ended his post with the baseball rules that the arbiter is not given any latitude.
I am not sure I like the split the baby option as that allows the arbiter and easy way out by meeting in the middle to provide for the appearance of being fair.
It brings another issue to light which is all the different deals out there that Loop has been talking about into question as well as I am quite sure there is likely no consistency with who pays what rate. An arbiter if he was given latitude to "split the baby" would then need to see all the different rates out there in order to make an informed decision on the splitting.
Hey I am not venturing into an area I likely don't belong.
By the way miller, now that you bought in, does that mean you will be around more often even on the good days?
here is a paragraph from the baseball rules arbitration.
They do not have the latitude to split the difference.
How does salary arbitration work?
The process is what is known as "Final Offer Arbitration" (though in the world of alternative dispute resolution it is now becoming known simply as "Baseball Arbitration"). In mid-January, each side to the dispute submits a salary figure to a panel of independent arbitrators. After a few hours of hearings, held in early February, the arbitrators pick one figure or the other. The arbitrator cannot "split the baby" and settle on a salary in the middle of the spread between the club's figure and the player's. One side leaves the arbitration a winner and the other a loser, heightening risk and encouraging negotiation and settlement.
This is the critical element of baseball arbitration: it is designed to produce a settlement, not a verdict
dog
I was under the impression that in the baseball arbitration rules that there is a high number and a low number and no in between.
The problem that many have is that if you put in too low a number I don't believe the arbiter has the ability to decide so he is forced to choose the high number if he thinks the low number is simply too low.
I have heard that many GM's and players alike find this arbitration process difficult because you as the team has to essentially throw stones and bring up the inadequacies of the player in order to justify your number. The player at times gets upset because he hears all the limitations and what the team thinks of him.
That is why you see 1 year contracts get signed prior to the arbitrator ruling where both sides meet in the middle.
I may be wrong in all of this but I don't think baseball gives the arbiter latitude to pick a number in between
I have been involved in a few fairly large arbitrations in the past that involved contractual matters as it relates to change orders and in all cases while we felt like we were right going in and had what we thought was an iron clad agreement we still ended up paying some of their claim.
I guess as long as the "low end" of their rate is an acceptable number that will help us get to that 800 million then I guess it will be worth it.
My issue is that it is still a year away and not sure that it will give any of the others the push to agree to the same thing until they see how it shakes out.
loop
Excuse my ignorance on this, but yes it says "Reached a settlement", but until an arbiter sets a rate is it really settled? It is not like Huawei is paying us a license fee and putting it in an escrow account until this is all worked out.
We are making the assumption that the arbiter will determined a great rate. ARent we still at their mercy?
like I said I hate to sound like a cynic or for that matter dmiller, but until this gets worked out we really don't know how good this is?
if this leads to other signings then I guess it is a positive but until then we should proceed with some caution.
binding arbitration that will take a year?
I think this is great, but we are still waiting for a year to get it resolved and start seeing money from it.
Not looking to be the cold water on this, but aren't people bothered that this wont get resolved for another year and how many things can go wrong by then?
We are talking about Charlie brown here (idcc!!!)
also while this decision is appealable right now, I get the idea they will wait until they see the actual decision in feb because they are not quite sure what they can appeal on
this question about whether they have seen this type of pushback from the govt he rambled and not sure what the hell he said other then it is something he can deal with
also a question about going to federal courts instead of ITC he does not seem to be throwing ITC out. This clearly has caught him off guard and does not seem to have a definite direction.
Would appear to me that this latest se4tback with the itc does not seem to keep him from using them again
got asked about share buyback and licensing and said nothing really
said we are buying back. well that is from the present buyback and there is no plans for a future one.
Talk about the majority of the licenses don't got to court, but said nothing about being close or new pending licenses
most of it so far is simple ceo speak.
Frankly is mentioning of all the limits the govt is placing on patent and the licensing of them is certainly not positive.
