Watts,
If Liquidmetal is working with Emgel to get a machine approved, this implies that Liquidmetal is engineering the add-on to the plastic injection molding machines to make them able to process Liquidmetal. I would assume this would mean that Liquidmetal will earn a royalty from every machine that is authorized to use Liquidmetal as we probably hold the design patents for the add-on.
If I'm right, how much will they make from each machine that is converted?
Read David Pogue's review of the Samsung Watch. He says it's a piece of garbage, useless, and nobody will buy one.
Marketing doesn't matter if you're trying to sell a turd.
iPhone 5S total weight = 112 Grams.
The case is a very small amount of the weight. I would not be honestly surprised if the iPhone 6 IS made of Liquidmetal if Engel, or should we say it like a Southerner.. (Angel) approves the design announced yesterday. You know for a fact that Apple would be first in line to retrofit their machines with this add on part in order to streamline their production facilities.
100 Grams and $100 is the magic number, right? Well, most of the weight of the iPhone 5S is probably attributed to the battery, and internals. So if Apple can make 10 molds, use 10 ingots, and have less post processing, then I say it's GAME ON.
What's beautiful is that they don't have to build new machines. They can "adapt" existing machines. This could ramp very quickly if it passes all testing.
How many existing injection molding machines could be adapted and how long do they take to adapt?
Lets hope that Engel approves this final iteration of the machine.
"This important milestone represents the culmination of many iterations of design, which will now be tested to assure the commercial readiness of this breakthrough manufacturing technology".
So they still have to test it????
October 16th should be interesting. Look at what is about to happen to the 100day SMA.
Once that parity arrives, we will hopefully retain the pennant formation. We have two weeks and hopefully some very big news :)
10 day SMA and 50 day SMA have converged!
Sandy,
No offense, but what are you smoking. There is little demand in the US for the iPhone 5C. Carrier subsidies are being reduced. The only silver lining is that Apple decided to make the iPhone 5C out of plastic because they were having trouble manufacturing enough 5S models due to all the machining the antenna requires.
This means that Apple may use Liquidmetal in the iPhone 6 as it can be processed like plastic. Apple will be more inclined to use Liquidmetal if the plastic phone sales fall flat. Apple is a premium brand.. Who wants to own plastic??? Barf!
Watts,
Hey buddy! Question for you. How much do you think LQMT would command if purchased in a hostile takeover?
Peker said it would take Apple 3-5 years to commercialize. Apple did the Master Transaction agreement in August 2010. Apple had previously used LQMT in the iPhone 3G SIM card removal tool.
Honestly, who knows how far Apple has come. What I do know is that in May of 2012, Peker stated 3-5 years. Two months later, Apple published the patent for 9 foot wide sheets of Liquidmetal. Who knows how close they may be???
This article explains it in very clear details.
http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/the-exchange/iphone-5c-cheap-plastic-case-not-cheap-price-112535345.html
The machines that make the iPhone 5 and 5S can't make enough to meet demand, hence the new iPhone 5C. They make it from plastic because it can be molded.. Hmmmmm..
I wonder what would happen if they could mold it out of metal? People, I am starting to think that the management at Liquidmetal has a HUGE poison pill... I don't know what our company is worth in a buyout but I'm sure Apple could throw $200 million at us as is.
Hopefully we get a contract BEFORE a buyout and then we can command a much higher price. Who knows... I'm praying.
How exciting would a liquidmetal iPhone really be if there were a lot of different Liquidmetal items on the market? But think about how much more they can hype it if Apple is the (first) product made for mass production via Liquidmetal injection molding...
It's an interesting idea.
Does anybody here think maybe there was a hidden agreement between Apple and Liquidmetal to keep this off the market for a time? Could this be a calculated agenda?
Or are they just inept failures?
The lows keep getting higher as we continue testing $0.20. That is a good sign.
If we are able to maintain a minimum of $0.15 until the end of the year, then the trend lines will be converging again and that is when I would start sweating. You don't want the 50 day SMA breaking the 100 day SMA again.
Wrong! It would have kept the same form factor and nobody would have cared. They will hold into Liquidmetal to create maximum hype and will create a phone that is super innovative in "design" if they choose to use it. I personally hope that it is worth at least a dollar per share before they announce. Imagine if it did exactly what it did in July. It would go from 1 to 3 over night.
BOOM!
365 days till ignition. Apple's iPhone 6 will be a huge leap forward. It will be a complete redesign of hardware, slimmer, lighter, stronger, larger screen, better battery life, etc. we also have to start looking forward to the iWatch. Apple just put the world on notice that they will not compete against inferior products in a race to the bottom. The iPhone 6 will be premium!
Why is everybody disappointed. Did any of you losers really convince yourself that Apple would use Liquidmetal in today's announcement? C'mon.. Really?
I have always said that if they use it, it will be in a new category killer. It will be a way to rebrand the company. At some point, people will care less and less about speed and camera picture quality and Apple will have to offer "other" implied value. That's what we are. We are not a necessary alloy. We are a distinguishing feature.
Apple will milk maps, SIRI, NFC and security with their new fingerprint scanner and will eventually have to offer something more. That is what we are. Or in the case of the iWatch, we may just be hyper economical and it might just make sense to offer it sooner rather than later. It depends on how quickly they can create a factory for the glass sheets that can operate 24/7 and how expensive the allow is. This will be worn on the wrist meaning that it has to be even more durable than most objects. This will scrape up against things, get scratched, etc. That might be our moment.
Full4God,
Keep in mind that apple doesn't buy aluminum to make iPhones. They contract with Catcher Texhnologies and Catcher procures the aluminum to fulfill the order.
Though LQMT will receive no money from Apple, I believe Materion and Visser will be procuring the alloy (on behalf of Apple) and LQMT will still get a small cut from their partners. I don't fully believe they have away the farm. I just believe it was worded in a way to state that LQMT will not receive further revenue from Apple. They will receive it from their manufacturing partners instead.
Your thoughts?
It will all come down to margins. Whichever alloy is cost effective in lowering overall manufacturing costs related to the casing will be used if any at all. It won't happen on the iPhone 5S, but maybe next year on the iPhone 6. This is what I'm hoping for.
It has to do with building a premium product with properties that can't be copied WHILE increasing margins.

Articles are saying the combination of the iPhone 5C being offered on China Mobile and NTT Docomo in Japan will be a detonator that destroys the competition in emerging international markets. Some speculate that Apple will almost overnight command 25% of the Chinese cellular phone market.
I wonder if after this happens, Apple will want to redefine high end with Liquidmetal rebranding the premium Apple line? I also wonder how inexpensive Liquidmetal would be if a factory were to produce 6,000 kilometers of the material per year at a width of three meters. I would assume that kind of manufacturing capacity would make it start falling in cost and make it more "commercially" appealing.
Is this new from the Liquidmetal website..
Liquidmetal® alloy is being tested and certified by an aerospace/defense company as a replacement for expensive to CNC machine parts such as wing control surfaces on airborne devices. They plan to take full advantage of the Nearest-to-Netâ„¢ shape capabilities of Liquidmetal alloy.
What do you all think the odds are of LQMT's stock price hitting $0.50 between January 1, 2014 and March 15, 2014?
Also, any guesses as to the closing price on Sept 11 after they don't announce LQMT in the iPhone 5S.
Watts,
I just saw this.. And I laughed out loud. So, THANKS! :)
All I was saying is that by doing the R&D, they are allowing it to come to market, whether Apple actually uses it in a big way or not.. I think you just misunderstood what I was trying to say. So either I misspoke or i spoke poorly.
Oracle,
As you know in numerous postings of mine, I have always stated that Apple will rebrand their entire lineup in liquidmetal casings as a way to do three things.
1. Protect Margins (via streamlined manufacturing)
2. Fight Counterfeiting (by making products that can't be copied)
3. Remain A Premium Brand
The race to the bottom is led by Samsung. In the PC war, it was led by Dell and HP. Look where it got them?
Liquidmetal will accomplish the three things mentioned above. It will also become much less expensive as an alloy once this machine is powered on. This will alloy other industries that don't compete with Apple to get in on the action. I honestly think this is going to be HUGE. The main question is WHEN?
Will it be the iPhone 6 in September 2014 or the iPhone 7 in 2016? I really hope it is the iPhone 6.
It is solely a change in custodian. The new firm may not receive the old cost basis electronically so you will want to call them and have them manually input the original cost basis for you in order to avoid future tax issues as most firms only keep records dating 5-7 years.
Hope this helps.
CantonG,
You state you are bullish to the point of reason but then you say until September 10th.. That statement is an oxymoronic thing to say. Liquidmetal will not be in this iPhone release. I would be excited about third party contracts being announced and personally hope. This stock gets crushed after it isn't announced on September 10 so that I can make a final large block purchase and then wait it out.
I believe that if anything happens with Apple in the future, it will be a rebranding of the company starting with the iPhone 6 and iWatch and then leading into all product categories.. That would be pretty amazing.
I also want to say that when Apple agreed to commercialize the technology, we have failed to define what "commercialize" means. That could mean they develop the technology to bring it to market. That doesn't have to mean they will bring it to market..
Chris,
I am also waiting for Sept 11 after news disappoints. Just hope no ness comes out before then.
Watts,
Is the poison pill large enough to prevent this group from regaining control?
You just made me almost cry! :D
I told you guys they were creating a poison pill.....
Yay
I told you guys they were creating a poison pill.....
Yay
This is what I hope it looks like.... classic

Agreed!!! Yama sounds like a newbie.
I hope an elegant watch is released. No way would I wear that futuristic looking thing on my arm. I like a classic look!
Watts,
What are your thoughts regarding the additional dilution? Is this a poison pill? Is this money to be used for purchasing machinery?
Also, do you think the stock is holding well considering...
Screw a reverse split...
Just get us to $1 per share and I'm happy. What's the point of $5 if it doesn't benefit us financially
I would guess any Apple news is at least a year out due to product refresh cycles. If it doesn't happen next year, then add two more years to that. If it does happen next year, then I will be able to retire at 55.
I've been in for more than a year. Luckily for me, my average cost is around $0.10/share. I am praying big things happen for this company. It would change my life in a very big way.
One contract would go a long way towards inspiring confidence. We need a contract before the end of the first quarter and we need for Apple to renew their cross collateral agreement.
Maybe you don't get it.. Some of us have enough shares that at $1, we are millionaires and $1 could be as little as a contract away. If institutions decide to play ball or large, noninstitutions decide to place a very small wager, this could quickly become a $2 stock..
Keep in mind it has its current market cap with zero earnings and zero contracts..
So snidely, you might think your smart and maybe if you're playing with 30,000 shares, then you are playing a different game.. I stand to set myself while speculating on very little. What you fail to answer is what a major manufacturing contract between Apple, Materion and their partner Liquidmetal would be worth in terms of scope of advertising.. That alone is worth more than the current market cap of LQMT. If a 30 second commercial during the Superbowl is worth millions, what is it worth for hundreds of millions of people to literally feel your alloy in their palm no less than 40 times every day for at least two years!!!!
Watts,
Thank you for your perspective..
What I meant is: Black Sean events are the events that can't be anticipated. Of all the people who are aware of Liquidmetal, many are dismissive about its prospects. How many of the 6 Billion people around the world do t know about Liquidmetal? How many of the workd's top economists, analysts, and engineers do t k ow about Liquidmetal? How many consumers and Joe Blows don't know about Liquidmetal? How many people won't see Liquidmetal coming when it "happens" and it changes manufacturing or manufacturing capacity?
My point is that Liquidmetal is a ghost. It has no contracts and operates as if it doesn't exist. Yet, it is backed by a company with $145 Billion in the bank.
Liquidmetal could be a Black Swan but it is hard for us to see it that way as we k ow about it. To us, it is obvious. To the majority, it is unfathomable... Then it becomes completely obvious... Of course!!!!
Most of the wealthiest people in the world are the wealthiest due to a Black Swan event. Look at George Soros as an example. Look at Mark Zuckerberg as another example. Five years before Facebook went public, he was a teenager headed to college and the iPhone didn't exist. All of a sudden, he is one of the wealthiest people in the large, thanks in large part to the iPhone.
Think about what the manufacturability of aluminum did to differentiate Apple from competitors.. Aluminum was in large part, "the brand". It's better because its made of a unibody aluminum enclosure...
What could Liquidmetal due for Apple and other industries.
