LiqTech Sees 4Q Rev $6 Million to $8 Million
By Michael Dabaie
The company guided for fourth-quarter 2021 revenue of $6 million to $8 million, which would be below FactSet consensus of two estimates for $10.4 million.
The maker of filtration technologies said it will end the year with a good backlog and expects ramping revenue growth starting in the first quarter of 2022.
For the full year 2022, the company said it sees revenue of $50 million to $80 million. The upside scenario assumes some large orders in its oil and gas pipeline will be released sooner than currently expected.
"While the past 18 months have been very challenging, we have taken this time to increase our investments in developing new product applications for the oil & gas and black carbon marine emission reduction markets. We expect these markets will be significant contributors to our business in 2022 and beyond. Further, we are seeing a recovery in our marine scrubber business, with increased inquiries and new orders," said Chief Executive Sune Mathiesen.
The company said its third-quarter results were lower than expectations due to continuing supply-chain disruptions that have affected its ability to deliver all of the planned shipments. LiqTech said it expects these supply-chain issues to remain through at least the next quarter.

Amazon-Backed EV Maker Rivian Awarded $440M Tax Incentive For Texas Factory
10:43 am ET August 18, 2021 (Benzinga) Print
Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian's investment in a proposed Texas manufacturing plant is already proving to be a win-win proposition for the Amazon, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN)-backed company.
What Happened: The Fort Worth city administration has agreed to award a $440-million tax incentive package to Rivian, as the EV maker is reportedly planning to build a $5-billion manufacturing plant near the city.
The development, codenamed "Project Terra," is expected to create 7,500 jobs by 2027, potentially making Rivian one of the largest employers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
The proposed plant would have an annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year and the minimum average annual salaries of factory workers would be around $56,000.
The city council unanimously approved the $440-million tax break, which is about 85% of projected maintenance and operations property taxes over 15 years.
Why It's Important: California-based Rivian now has a factory in Normal, Illinois. The company is developing the R1T, an EV truck that would compete with Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA)'s Cybertruck and Lordstown Motors Corp. (NASDAQ: RIDE)'s Endurance.
Its product portfolio also includes the R1S, an electric SUV under development.
Startups such as Rivian operate in a cash-constrained environment given the huge capital needs associated with the production process. Tax breaks such as these will free up cash resources for Rivian.
Ideal Power Signs B-TRAN(TM) Sampling Agreement for Electric Vehicle Charging Application
8:30 am ET July 27, 2021 (Globe Newswire)
Ideal Power Inc. (Nasdaq: IPWR), pioneering the development and commercialization of highly efficient and broadly patented B-TRAN(TM) bi-directional power switches, today announced that an electric vehicle (EV) charger provider will be sampling B-TRAN(TM) devices for its innovative portable and modular EV charging system currently under development. This represents Ideal Power's second sampling agreement in the EV space and its first in the 2.1 million unit global EV charging station market. This market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 47% to 30.8 million units by the end of 2027 as governments phase out fossil fuel vehicles from the market and make infrastructure investments to meet the growing demand for EV charging stations to support the adoption of EVs.
The EV charging provider's offering will combine a DC fast charger with a swappable battery system and a modular design to allow for scaling of the solution, and targets both on-demand fast charging and roadside assistance to eliminate charging anxiety. EV charging applications can benefit from the advantages that B-TRAN(TM) has to offer over conventional IGBT switches; greater efficiency, bi-directionality, smaller size and reduced thermal management. However, these features are critically important to mobile EV charging systems with battery storage.
"We are seeing a variety of innovative products and business models to support the buildout of the EV charging infrastructure and their need for smaller, lower operating cost solutions," stated Dan Brdar, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ideal Power. "We look forward to collaborating with several EV charging companies that want to take advantage of the benefits of B-TRAN(TM), including its inherent bi-directionality, for their mobile, stationary, vehicle-to-grid enabled and buffer storage and/or solar paired EV charging solutions."
B-TRAN(TM)'s key benefit of improved efficiency is expected to result in in faster EV charging, smaller thermal management systems and OEM solutions, lower costs to consumers and higher margins for fast charger owners. Additionally, if EV charging systems are paired with buffer storage, the round-trip charge efficiency improvement is even more significant, potentially further reducing charging cost as time of use and/or peak damage charges from the local utility company, which may represent up to 50% of the electricity bill for a commercial installation, can be mitigated.
Ideal Power's patented semiconductor power switch, the Bi-directional Bipolar Junction Transistor, or B-TRAN(TM), reduces power losses by 50% or more over conventional power switches, depending on the application. B-TRAN(TM)'s higher efficiency results in less heat being generated and therefore significantly lower thermal management requirements, requiring significantly smaller surface area to dissipate heat and giving rise to potentially smaller OEM products. B-TRAN(TM) offers the industry's only symmetric bi-directional operation, reducing the number of components required for application by 75% as compared to a conventional bi-directional switch utilizing IGBTs and diodes. This highly efficient and unique symmetric operation provides a strong competitive advantage in bi-directional applications, which are growing rapidly as transportation electrifies and power generation shifts to renewable energy coupled with energy storage.

Bion Announces Agreement with University of Nebraska-Lincoln for Field Corn Trial using AD Nitrogen Fertilizer
9:00 am ET July 20, 2021 (PR Newswire) Print
Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC QB: BNET), a developer of advanced livestock waste treatment technology that largely mitigates environmental impacts while recovering high-value coproducts, announced it has executed an agreement with University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) to study the agronomic performance of Bion's biobased ammonium bicarbonate fertilizer, AD Nitrogen, on field corn.
UNL's Department of Agronomy and Horticulture will establish a research station trial with the following objectives:
Determine the effect of ammonium bicarbonate (AB) on corn yield in comparison to current organic and conventional fertilizers (AB, composted manure, urea, AB + composted manure)
Measure differences in nitrogen mineralization and plant uptake among different nitrogen fertilizers and application rates
Planning, design, and preparation for the study will commence this fall. Planting will coincide with the normal corn growing season in spring 2022. Bion's AD Nitrogen will be applied as a mid- to late-season nitrogen fertilizer, following an initial fertilizer application of manure, as is customary practice.
AD Nitrogen is recovered from livestock waste in Bion's patented third generation (3G) livestock waste treatment technology platform, which captures and stabilizes the ammonia that volatilizes from animal waste. Today, a tremendous amount of nitrogen is lost through ammonia emissions from livestock waste, which mostly bypass traditional best management practices (BMPs) that are designed to capture nutrients and prevent runoff that fuels algae blooms and contaminates groundwater. Stabilizing and upcycling this nitrogen will prevent these downstream impacts, that US EPA calls one of the greatest water quality problems in America today, as well as recapture its lost value.
Ammonium bicarbonate has a long history of use as a commercial synthetic fertilizer, although its use was phased out years ago in favor of cheaper alternatives, such as urea. Bion's initial fertilizer product, a liquid ammonium bicarbonate solution, was approved by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) in May 2020 for an OMRI Listing, allowing for its use in organic production. In May 2021, Bion submitted a new application to OMRI, seeking an OMRI Listing for AD Nitrogen, a crystallized (solid) ammonium bicarbonate/ ammonium carbonate, recovered in its 3G platform.
Craig Scott, Bion's director of communications, stated, "We are eager to work with UNL to begin this important next phase in commercializing our 3G technology platform. This will be the first of several anticipated trials of our AD Nitrogen in various crop applications, but we are particularly focused on this one as it relates to our sustainable and organic beef opportunity."
Bion's patented third-generation technology was designed to substantially reduce the environmental impacts of large-scale livestock production and deliver a USDA-certified sustainable product to the consumer. The platform simultaneously recovers high-value coproducts and renewable energy that increase revenues. Bion's 3G tech platform can provide a pathway to true economic and environmental sustainability with 'win-win' benefits for at least a premium sector of the $200 billion U.S. livestock industry, the environment, and the consumer.
