Thanks for the good word on Microsoft, DG.

Mart, are you still a shareholder?
If something good happens here, if Billy comes through with one good thing after decades of promises, I want Mart to get back some of his dough.
Trueheart
Single men eat out of the pan. Saves the drudge of dish washing. And you don't have the inconvenience of going back to the stove to get more food.
Trueheart
Thanks for that, DG.
I made a mistake and bought more shares at $213, thinking that the double bottom area would hold. I was wrong.

Thanks for the post, DG.
Friday on the Cramer segment "Am I Diversified," two portfolios containing NVDA were examined by him. Twice he said it was in his club's portfolio and he wasn't going to sell and added that sometimes you have to bear the pain.
Interesting.

Trustunits,
I wonder about your wondering.

Thanks for the post, DG.
Nvidia continues to be loved, only less.

Hey, BnB,
Indeed, the Costco chicken deal can't be beat. You can't buy and cook that cheaply.
I have to drive forty miles round trip into town so I make the trip a twofer or threefer. The stop at Walmart also was to return a Sony home theater receiver that I bought online.
Trueheart
I hitched up the horses and made a trip into town this morning.
Costco was my first stop. I arrived at 7:30 and found the gas station virtually empty of cars. Who knew the big rush two weeks ago with the 30-minute wait would get old so soon? The cost was $5.70 per gallon of the high octane gas as my car requires the payday loan kind. I was allowed in the store at nine with all the gray hairs. I bought bread, eggs, the five buck sooper deal chicken, paper towels and a huge bag of potato chips, the grab because I hadn't eaten breakfast and my stomach was complaining. Incidentally, Costco ends the special senior days in two weeks. Boo!
I went to Walmart. They do not carry Hamburger Helper. I went to a food store in the complex and found the goody box. The choice was almost too much for this man of eroding intelligence. There was HH, Tuna HH, Stroganoff HH, Three Cheese HH, Cheesy HH and a couple more. I went with the straight stuff, no chaser.
The list of ingredients reads like a chem lab's complete periodic table. Howsomeever, I'm going to give it a shot.
Trueheart
I made the J-E-L-L-O a few minutes ago and will give it a shot manana. I left the package on the counter so if I kick off after eating the ancient chemicals, the evidence will be in plain sight.
Tomorrow I will go into town to make a Costco and Walmart run. I may buy the Helper.
Trueheart
Hey, Huggy Bear,
They're still at it after ten years?
I take it the mine in the Sierra laden with gold nuggets (we just need to go a few more feet) didn't pan out.
Trueheart
I've never used Hamburger Helper.
Is it tasty? Bad for the bod? The lazy man's way to dinner?
Trueheart
Hence the decline of the Roman Empire.

Hola, BnB,
250 years ago the upper end housing in California was made of adobe.
As Janice mentioned, a practical kitchen is not a large room. It has to work well for the cook. The mega kitchens in AD appear to be for show, but do the owners of the mansions care if the hired staff has to deal with a kitchen that has two area codes?
As to This Old House magazine, I subscribed to it for some time when "Nawman" was their chief carpenter, but now the mag is essentially ads.
Trueheart
Yeppers, BnB,
I suspect Architectural Digest requires kitchens of at least 500 sq.ft. before they'd give you a sniff.
Years ago I subscribed to the mag but found it to be a showcase for those of the yacht class. They continue to send me offers for $10 a year.
Trueheart
Janice,
I like both corn and flour tortillas.
To me, corn torts go better with calabasas.
I have to get to the kitchen!
Trueheart
Janice,
Lentil soup is chock full of protein and it tastes good.
I had never added celery to the soup but I had the stick.
The usual addition of Worcestershire sauce wasn't enough to kill the taste.
This evening I'm making calabasas, a Mexican squash staple we were served back when I was growing up in the projects in L.A.
The original recipe called for squash (Italian or the round), onions, black beans, corn, diced tomatoes and spices. I add diced chicken.
Trueheart
Damn, K9narc, I like that!!!
It's convenient and you know the line up of your knives.
And you didn't have to split the assets and argue about who gets the dog.
Trueheart
Janice,
I take down walls myself. I don't need a contractor to do the job as I am pretty darn good at stuff like that. Same goes for electrical.
The next rendition of the kitchen will include a 78 sq.ft. addition that will fill in a space that should have been part of the original construction. I will add a nook and a floor to ceiling cabinet. As you suggested, I plan to add more work space under good lighting.
The contractor cut corners building my home. He supported a 12 foot bearing wall header with only one 2X4 on either end, which I discovered and corrected during a remodel of my living room. He also tied a lot of wiring circuits together so that he could save on wire and breakers.
I view some of the TV shows for their ideas but hate the cutesy antics.
Trueheart
Janice,
I made lentil soup last week. I tossed in caramelized onions and carrots. I had a few sticks of celery and tossed them in the pot.
I will not add celery again. The celery seemed to add an earthy taste that overpowered the other veggies.
Trueheart
Janice,
I don't think a decorator would have caught the sub floor problem. As to the need for more electrical outlets, the decorator may have missed that too. The need is more for convenience, having to set up and move appliances along the counter tops. I'm a single man and do not mind counter clutter (arguments about that are known to be a leading cause of divorce).
The granite counters require more attention and care than quartz or other solid countertops (refer to divorce above).
As to Architectural Digest, I think the homes and furnishing are too ritzy and high end for Joes like me or possibly BnB. You may have Bergdorf Goodman on speed dial.
I subscribe to Fine Homebuilding and the Journal of Light Construction and have found many practical ideas for building and decorating. Howsomeever, the publications are aimed at General Contractors and craftsmen so they're not go-to for decorating.
Trueheart
K9narc,
Did you notice the oven was crying out in alarm?
Trueheart
BnB,
The new kitchen cabinets will include a slide-in space for baking trays.
I can use most of the existing cabinets as they will be painted white (by a pro!). I bought the Kraft cabinets at Le Home Depot which still sells the door design.
Incidentally, I ordered a special window from Home Depot for another project. The window took three months to manufacture and it was not made according to my specs. They said they'd do a make good but I said I couldn't wait another three months.
Lead time for materials is long and should be taken into consideration.
Trueheart
Hey, BnB,
My need for a decorator comes about because I have no sense of style or design.
Although my galley kitchen is 9' wide, I think white cabinets would make it appear more open. My neighbor redid his kitchen and chose a solid counter that is attractive. His cabinets are oak and he made them himself.
I would think about the washer and dryer being in two locations. Schlepping the wet laundry could get old fast.
Trueheart
Hola, Janice,
HGTV is a dream world. However, as you said, it's purpose to the rational is to provide ideas.
I redid my galley kitchen and did a lot of the work such as installing solid oak floors, new wiring and plumbing and drywall. My neighbor helped with the cabinet and appliance installations. The granite counters were by a reputable tile and stone company.
Mistakes: The cabinets are stained to look like mahogany. I should have installed white cabinets. Not enough electrical outlets. They were done to code but I should have installed a couple more. The floor squeaks in a few areas. I should have taken out the 1 X 6 sub floor and installed sheet plywood. Instead of granite I should have chosen solid surface counters.
I plan to redo the kitchen. All I need is the money for the huge increases in materials. And a decorator!!!!
Trueheart
I thought so, BnB.
The dentist's treasure chest was filled with sugar bombs, mostly cheap suckers.
His practice would be like a cardiologist handing out coupons for bacon.
Trueheart
That's an interesting comment, BnB.
When I was a child, our dentist had a treasure chest filled with candies.
I see now that he was ensuring future visits.

Hola, Janice,
I grew up Catholic. We ate fish on Fridays.
I don't recall the smaller meals bit.
But I remember having to give up something for forty days and forty nights. I believe my giver-uppers were Twinkies and SnoBalls.
Trueheart
Hi, k9narc,
I thought the J-E-L-L-O would last forever, like stinky feet.
I will give it a shot.
If the contents have changed chemically into a new radioactive element, look for my obituary.
Trueheart
Hola,
I found impressed numbers on the Jello packages but couldn't make sense of them. The first four letters are right side up and the last two are upside down.
But flipping the packages, the first two letters are right side up and the last four are upside down.
My head hurts.
Trueheart
Hi, Janice,
Speaking of Jello, J-E-L-L-O, does the gelatin have a shelf life?
I bought several packages years ago and today I was thinking of making the squiggly stuff, thinking of, mind you.
What are your thoughts?
Trueheart
Janice,
Just enough tomato paste to make it the mystery ingredient sounds good.
So, do you add peas to beef stew?
Trueheart
Hola, Janice and all,
Questions: Do you put peas in a beef stew? Wine?
I've seen recipes with them but haven't tossed them in.
The beef stew I made the other day turned out pretty well. I used choice cubed chuck, spuds, carrots, onions, celery, garlic, beef stock, parsley and salt and pepper.
I like Worcestershire sauce and used a ton.
Thanks,
Trueheart
Thanks, DG.
Trueheart
Hey, Sorta,
It's great to hear from you. I hope all is well.
Yeppers, Senor Petty's retirement plan (otherwise known as Frankie) is back in business in Argentina.
The Andes run from the top to the bottom of South America, so when he has milked Argentina there is a host of other countries in which the emaciated boy miners can work and be entertained by the comely Coochi Coochi girls.

I suspected the country ambiance was behind the shocking price. I had to tip the maitre'd extra to get a nice Formica table.

I have been a shut-in since the pandemic began. As a writer, I coped with it pretty well.
However, this morning a friend and I went to breakfast at a local restaurant that's located in the low rent end of my burg.
Steak and eggs were priced at $27.50.
Is that the norm these days?
Incidentally, country music is the cafe's choice. A couple got up and danced to a slow romantic song. I applauded.
Trueheart
The goodies look tasty.
Beef stew will be on the menu manana. I will make it the old fashioned way.
I had looked into slow cooker recipes but mushy potatoes and overcooked carrots didn't appeal to me.
Trueheart
Hey, BnB,
I believe you're right about old habits dying hard.
I'm saving to four places and to my son's email. I think the manuscript is pretty well covered at the moment.
Incidentally, about the Geek Squad scam, all the Best Buy stores send misbehaving computers to Virginia for repair and rehabilitation. I paid $500 at the counter and the computer got shipped. Then I got a call from them for the second $500 and paid that. Then I got another call asking for another $500. They said they were very close to finding the files and asked me for file names as they thought they had seen a few. That was it. They should have told me what they found and asked me if the files were what I was looking for. SOBs!
Enjoy your day.
Trueheart
Janice,
I had looked into buying a laptop and using it unconnected to the internet. However, I decided not to do it when I began to save often and discovered the problem was resolved by turning off the computer.
This is my second go at the story. Years ago I accidentally deleted the story (stupidity, really). I took the computer to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. I was assured that the story was there. A thousand dollars later they were still looking for it, and assuring me it was there. I just had to give them another $500 and they were sure they'd recover it. I told them to send it back and began writing the story again. I believe I was scammed after the first $500.
This time I had finished the manuscript and was cleaning it up when the computer went haywire. The story unfolds over thirty years. I didn't write it serially, that is from start to finish, and had times and events and characters to match (which entailed some rewriting).
I forgot to mention that I also email my work to one of my sons.
I have to catch up on "Got A Great Recipe To Share????"
