E-Waste Systems announces China expansion
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
An American electronics recycling company is making inroads in China's burgeoning e-scrap industry. E-Waste Systems, Inc. has signed an agreement with the People's Republic of China that includes an investment in the company. According to a statement from E-Waste Systems, the initial value of the deal is worth $800,000, plus royalties and a minimum $5,000,000 sales commitment. In addition to the license agreement, the deal includes an investment of $650,000 in E-Waste Systems, via a new common share issuance at $0.08 per share (PINK:EWSI). For the venture, E-Waste Systems will be partnering with Tanke, Inc., a company that helps develop, manage and finance emerging businesses with a focus on environmental technologies.

Changing the perception of electronics recycling
Despite more than half of the country’s population living in areas where recycling of unwanted electronics is the mandatory form of disposal, recycling rates of residential electronic scrap remain low. The last EPA estimates – from 2008 – guess the average American home has 26 electronic devices in use at any one time. That doesn’t count the millions of unwanted devices stored in kitchen drawers, basements, attics and garages. What are the greatest hindrances to increasing residential collection of e-scrap? Lack of access to recycling programs – or perceived lack of access – is a significant factor. Barbara Jorgensen, Community Editor for EBN, a publication for the electronics industry supply chain, posted an article recently about her personal experience with trying to recycle electronics. The article also shows a lingering sentiment in the American psyche that we should be paid for our unwanted electronics, like we’re paid for our recyclable metal and in some states, drink containers.
Can reverse logistics help your business and the planet?
By Steve Sensing | Published February 06, 2013
Though the holiday gift giving season is well over, there is a different kind of hustle and bustle taking place in the retail world right now -- handling returned merchandise. January and February are the busiest months of the year for holiday returns, with returns equaling about 10 percent of overall sales. And as more and more consumers make purchases online, product return rates post-holiday have significantly increased. In fact, returned goods from online sales now make up 20 to 30 percent of all returned merchandise for retailers. All of this activity means that retailers need to find a fast, cost-effective and sustainable means for disposing, recycling or reselling the products that are reentering their supply chains. That’s where reverse logistics comes in.
Reverse logistics is the process of managing goods from the point of consumption to the point of origin. And these days, it’s all about speed. When a product is returned, it is basically a lost sale. So retailers have to maximize the value of that returned asset, and they have to do it fast, in order to not take a hit to their bottom lines. For example, more than 70 percent of the products returned in the consumer electronics and high-tech industry have nothing wrong with them. The quicker those products can be repackaged, put back into inventory and made available for sale, the quicker those companies can recover their value. And the speed of the reverse supply chain is becoming increasingly important as product life cycles get shorter and shorter, particularly in the consumer electronics industry.
So if these Gelmons guys don't do what it is supposed to be done,
