Downloaded Revo Uninstaller and uninstalled everything relating to the ATI. Installed latest files and driver from ATI. Nothing changed! It's apparent to me that the ATI Radeon X1200 series video isn't capable of eliminating the black borders on the screen of my new ASUS 24" monitor in HDMI. Oh well, price was right for the monitor anyway.
Thanks to all for the help. If any more possible solutions, I'll keep trying.
Don't think device manager will help as it's the program Catalyst Control Center I'm trying to uninstall.
That's my problem, see my last post. Cannot uninstall CCC.
Thanks MO. I've read all the doc's and downloaded the lastest full package, including new CCC. The doc's say to uninstall the old CCC etc., however, when I attempt this I keep getting this message:
Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Should note there is no stand alone program for uninstall, using WinXP Add/Remove programs for CCC as instructed if no unistall program.
Tried deleting all thru Windows Explorer as well and rebooting, but all ATI program files magically reappear. Guess I'm doing something wrong.
Just installed an ASUS MS246H monitor, with HDMI. I have a similar problem to the below message (same as others)posted on Newegg:
Other Thoughts: I also had a problem with the hdmi not taking up my full screen with my ATI HD 5770, but it turned out it was actually a problem with the gpu. I turned on catalyst control, and changed the overscan to 0. This fixed everything. Make sure you have the most recent edition of catalyst control center.
I have an ASUS MOBO M2A-VM with AMD processor. The MOBO has an onboard video card ATI Radeon Xpress 1250, driver ati2dvag.dll version 5.14.10.6666. Also have the Catalyst Control Center.
ASUS does not have a newer version of the CCC to download. The AMD site has one, however, when I tried to install a Microsoft message came up and said if I continue it could screw things up, so quit the installation.
Am I missing something on where to change the overscan? Looked everywhere and cannot find it. Or, is there some other way to eliminate the 1/2-3/4 inch black border wasting the screen space?
Thanks once again for any and all help. Golf
Thinking of buying my wife a laptop. Her primary use is surfing and music (teaches dance classes). Any and all input from anyone about the following is appreciated. Golf

She had 3 GB of RAM (1-2 GB and 1-1GB), now has 2 GB, the 1 GB stick was the bad one. Believe me, she will not notice a difference in what she uses it for.
Mimuray and others: Thanks for the help. You solved the problem. It was indeed a 1 meg stick of RAM that was causing the problem. Her machine is working fine now on 2 meg of RAM and is totally adequate for what she uses it for. Wish I could share the brownies she gave me for fixing it.
Thanks, Will follow your advice, hopefully that will do the trick.
My elder neighbor called me over this evening as her HP (1 1/2 year old) computer froze today while she was on Google maps. She turned off computer and now it will not boot up. It turns on for a couple seconds, never goes thru any boot process, and monitor says it has no connection and then shows computer going into sleep mode.
Upon turning on it gives a short beep, then a longer beep, and keeps repeating that sequence. Know that means something, but what?
My first guess is bad hard drive or possibly bad power supply.
She already has spoken with overseas HP who only had her unplug everything and replug to no avail.
Any and all help appreciated.
My condolences also.
I'm lurking.
OEX isn't up, it's down a couple points.
Man, that looks like a nice piece of property. If I was closer then FL I'd come over and help. Sorry for your loss but with your positive outlook it'll look beautiful again.
Same problem.
Lived in Alpharetta 11 years ago. Son still lives there and daughter in Cumming. Found the article you noted the foreclosures from and sent in to son who replied: don't see how commercial properties here can stay afloat. Even up near us there is a huge occupancy issue and we are in the good part of town. I went to get refit on my bike by a guy who was sharing a place with a gym, but moved into a new unit of his own. He said they basically gave him free rent just so the building wasn't so empty and unappealing to other potential renters.
Thought this might be of interest to you.
Called the number Bruce posted and actually got to speak with someone (from India_na!) Basically, had me do the same things, uninstall, drivers, etc. as you all recommended. Nothing worked. Said it was possible built in sound went belly up, but not probable. Told him I had an old sound card and would try that. It worked, so the improbable happened. Imagine I could have gotten another MB as it was only 14 mo. old, but don't want to go through the hassle.
Thanks to all who provided assistance. Jeff
Done that as well. Will call ASUS per Bruce, although not sure where he found the phone# as nowhere on their site could I find that number. MB is just over a year old so find it strange the on board sound card would fail.
Thanks to all of you who have provided help.
Tried this as well, still nothing. Will take Bruce's suggestion and call ASUS as nothing I have tried seems to work.
Did that already. Says it is working properly.
Wish I could pull out the sound card but it is built into the MB.
Yes. Everything appears OK. Never encountered the problem before. No changes were made to anything that I am aware of.
Already have the latest driver.
Yes, checked everything, including different speakers into different power source. Still no sound.
No flags. Mute is off. Everything looks OK. Tried CD as well and no sound as well. Haven't changed BIOS or made any other changes.
Lost sound on computer. Hooked up another set of speakers, still no sound. Have an ASUS M2A-VM MB with onboard Realtek ALC883 Codec. Tried everything I know to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks
You should be proud of her and she sure should be proud of herself. Give her a big hug and a little kiss.
Thanks for all your help, see post #21822.
Called ASUS and actually got someone. After some talking about DVI-D etc. he asked what type of monitor I had, which is an ASUS 22". Said I should have gotten another cord, DVI, with the monitor that will plug into MOBO and monitor. Didn't recall but still had the box, opened it, and there it was. Now watching two monitors. Thanks for help.
Never wrote to them as almost all links on their site just hang, pretty pathetic. Searched alot for answers with many conflicting answers found. The following may hold the key.
Within the AMD 690G, the Radeon Xpress 1250 videocard supports dual monitors (one digital and one analog display). If you want to run dual monitors, one will have to be analog and the second digital, DVI to analog converters do not work with the Radeon Xpress 1250, so you cannot connect two analog monitors onto the onboard videocard. Again, this is dependant on the manufacturer's implementation; the MSI K9AGM2-FIH has only one monitor jack so it will not support dual monitors in this way.
Tried it, doesn't recognize. You may want to see my original post for MOBO if you haven't #21754. Perhaps I bought the wrong adapter, which is DVI-D 24+1 Male to 15 pin female(at least that is what it is supposed to be), pins are OK. Thanks
Does not recognize 2nd monitor even with the adapter. Guess I'll just stay with one. Thanks anyway.
Will do. Ordered it last night and shipped.
Thanks, Think this adaptor is the ticket but will contact ASUS.
StarTech DVIVGAFM DVI-I Female To VGA Male Adapter F-M - Retail
That's the MOBO, bought it from Newegg. Will and adaptor do it (don't have one yet). Is it and adaptor that plugs into the 3x8 female socket next to the monitor socket?
Dual Monitor Card,
Any suggestion for a dual monitor card? Have a 15' wide screen LCD monitor collecting dust and thought I may as well use it with my 22' monitor. My MOBO is a ASUS M2A-VM AM@ 690G Micro ATX AMD with AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM@ 65W Dual Core Processor and 2GB Ram. MOBO has built in ATI Radeon X1250 Max shared memory of 1024MB and says supports RGB with max. resolution 2048x1536 @ 85hz. Says dual VGA output support: RGB & DVI. Note: DVI-D cannot be converted to output RGB Signal to CRT (does this mean it is or isn't dual monitor capable?). May be overkill on info. Just looking for a reason $ way to add the monitor. Should note using Win XP Home.
Thanks
Not my kids!! It only take them a couple of weeks!
Need some help.
Need installation assistance. Have an EMachines T3958. The power supply went on the fritz and fried the MOBO. Said to self, might as well upgrade a little so bought the following:
ATX 450 power supply
ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+Brisbane 2.6Hz Socket AM2 65W Dual Core Processor Model ADO50000DOBOX
Patriot 2GB 240-Pin SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC206400) Desktop Memory Model PSD22G8002
Thermal Grease (wasn't needed as CPU cooling fan already had it)
All from New Egg except power supply which I purchased locally.
First ASUS MOBO was bad and returned. Just installed the new one and BIOS recognized everything but will only go thru Windows XP screen. The hard drive (IDE)is from my old EMachine with the operating system installed when purchased with programs and data on it. Can this HD be used or is there a problem trying to use the HD with XP installed by EMachines. Also, they have partitioned part of it for a restore if required. Could the partition be causing the problem? Not sure if I've given enough info but need help. Not a power user, just the average Joe.
If you are reading this, Bruce, keep an eye (excuse the pun) on the latest tropical storm a brewing. Live just southwest of you in Dunnellon.
Yes, No BIOS. Hoping to get an idea of what may be wrong other then a bad MOBO.

Used the EMachines case and installed everything with no problem with these exceptions:
The old MOBO had 2 IDE sockets versus only one on the new MOBO. Will either need longer IDE ribbon or a new case as cannot hook up the CD ROM in case (can externally). Power LED light indicator pins in new board has a space between pins versus pins consecutive on old board (not a real problem). The new power supply has a 20 Pin EATXPWR plug-in, new MB has 24 socket socket (per MOBO manual this is OK).
Everything is connected properly (pretty sure) and power light is on MOBO when power source in on, but nothing else, no boot!!! Have not changed any jumpers on new MOBO. It should boot! Any suggestions (have checked, double checked and triple checked everything).
BTW, yesterday asked my group of golfers if anyone had an old machine they were throwing away (looking for a longer IDE ribbon). One said he his sister who vacated her home and had two in the garage which she was tossing. Went over and took both without really looking at them. One was a tower case pretty well stripped, no ribbons. Second one was an EMachines T2692. Plugged it in and it worked (not good to throw away computer with data on the HD). Swapped HD's out and mine wasn't fried thank goodness. Writing this appeal for help on that machine with my HD.
