Speaking of routers, I have had an SMC for several years but lately it takes up 30 minutes or more to connect to modem and all other portables in the house. I am thinking of getting a new one.
PowerRegScheduler was removed by MSE after I did a reset following the weird problems I had witrh my Viewsonic monitor following the viewing of an A&E Intervention episode.
Bing app is pretty cool for the iPod/iPhone
I was watching the latest episode of Intervention on A&E website.
I have Glary Utilities, Malawarebytes and the MSE suite. And also Advanced System Care.
No download occurred
Season 2 of MAD MEN is on my plate for the rest of the week.
Thanks for outlining the instructions to system restore (another keep post). I am sure it will be useful at a later date!
I tried the suggestions offered and none worked. After fiddling in XP and ATI troubleshooter and getting nowhere, I thought, "screw it" and just did a RESET. Everything is now back to its former glory.
Thanks all for the quick replies, I really appreciate all the suggestions.
Control Panel - System _ and then what? How do I go back 24 hours on Windows XP??
where do I check that?
Help again!
I was watching a video on line last night. This morning my desktop image is stretched out with black band on top and at bottom and I only see a part of the desktop image. I played around a bit in the display features but getting nowhere, either on monitor or in Windows XP (Control Panel - Display). Fonts are also flickering a bit ...
thanks for any help!

Great! Thanks!!
The Losers
Too much like a MTV video for me, but I guess that shows my age.
Almost up-to-date with The Good Wife. Series is still good but the first ten episodes are the best. After it is good but some is a bit kitschy or over the edge.
Time to take on Season 2 of Mad Men and get back to Breaking Bad.
Gets along well with MSE, AVAST, Glary Utilities and Malawarebytes on the same computer?

The books (trilogy) and corresponding movies are excellent and represent the plots very faithfully.
On watch are ENA, SYZ, CLI and GGN
HARRY BROWN
If you like Michael Caine you will enjoy this movie but the heavy Cockney accent is sometimes impossible to understand and the violence is quite extreme.
Also, it is a vigilante theme that has been done over and over many times (notably by Charles Bronson originally).
PEACOCK with Susan Sarandon and Ellen Page is one strange movie that stretches boundaries of credibility.
Thanks Bruce, I am printing and posting this on my wall next to laptop.
I usually follow these tips to the letter but after 18 months on laptop with no incidents I got careless.
Yes, probably by default, but I did tweak the MSE settings to more radical actions to be taken so you may have lead me to an area that required some adjustments.
I would love to just get rid of IE that I never use!!
Let me check ...
Ya, I thought of that but then I could not reply to your post!
haha!!
Fake Spy Pro attempted briefly to infect my computer again yesterday morning, but this time MSE caught it and was able to clean it right away. AVAST stayed quiet as was the rest of the day.
A full Malawarebyte scan showed a clean bill of health. Also did the System Restore trick.
Any suggestions on what preventive measures I could take to avoid meeting Mr. FSP again?
Finished Season 1 of Mad Men yesterday and I just love this show, but now I confess I need a break. Back to The Good Wife for a while.
Also did a dedicated scan of peripheral HD and all seems clean!
Ok, I just did a full scan with Malawarebytes and all is good. I did the System restore on and off also.
A fresh Malawarebyte scan is not finding anything so there is hope all is resolved.
One last thing. I have a 500GB SEAGATE peripheral hard drive that was probably connected to my infected laptop, and I do not know if it did a backup while the laptop was infected.
Should I do a Malawarebyte scan on E:/ drive only? Or is there a safer way to avoid re-infection??
Thanks!!

HUGE thanks to Bruce, gottfried, excel, Castle and Susie for all your inspired solutions. I was sure I was headed for a major dramatic expensive solution.
Thank you! Thank you!!
That Trojan was pretty crafty as every time I downloaded a program it would disable it and I could not use it. Last night I DLed Malawarebyte but could not use it as I kept getting a message it was infected.
This morning after playing around with some of the HiJacker removal tool (which I also could not use either) I changed the settings in IE deleting the proxy server option (as per some instructions on a removal link) and all of a sudden on a lark I tried MALAWAREBYTE and it WORKED!!!! I did a scan and found 8 infections which I was able to delete and then I rebooted and everything seems fine.
I have no idea if changing IE settings was the key (I kinda doubt it) or something else. You would know for sure!!
What is really weird during this whole mess is that MSE was operational but it kept saying there were no threats even when I was getting these major pop-ups and disabilities. AVAST also kept saying it was doing its job but not much help. It seemed like the trojan had fooled MSE and AVAST that all was well when it wasn't.
Anyway, thank you so much for all your help. I was having visions of reformatting my drive and installing a new OS.
Believe it or not that was my preferred approach but I forgot where RESTORE was but when I tried your instructions the trojan would not let me access it!!!
Thanks gottfried this is also a "keeper"
Thanks Susie924 that is a "keep" post for me.
AVAST is still working but does not seem to resolve problem. MSE is installed and does scans but only quarantines the trojan and does not seem to delete it!!!
a lot of programs have been disabled including the CONROL PANEL, Glary UT
Antispyware soft has appeared on my task bar and I get constant boxes appearing about intrusions and a WINDOWS SECURITY ALERT
HELP!!
everything is infected now I can't even open the control panel!!!
OMG It came back a 100 times worse. I can't even use malawarebytes after downloading it because it blocks it. Damn it blocks Glary Utilities too!!!
How do I go back 24 hours in time? Restore point???
Thanks Castle -- worked great!!
I got Fake Spy Pro ... Avast keeps warning me of intrusion!!??
Is there a removal tool somewhere??
Mad Men the tv series about the advertising world is inteersting if you lived the 60s or before
