NewWave.....I don´t fear competition from the software encryption guys, since HW and SW encryption can NOT be compared. Software encryption is SLOW and you have to do an initial encryption of the HOLE disc, which lasts, dependent of the capacity, up to several hours. Furthermore the installation of several applications force you to de-encrypt your disc and after installation to encrypt once again
I´ve used Bitlocker with TPM on a HP DC7700 for testing purposes and I saw the FDE.2 in action on the Tarox notebooks at CeBit. Oh well, what shall I say: Everyone who tested a STX FDE.2 in conjunction with ETS will throw all other stuff out of the window!
BR
ISPRO
Barge...basically the FDE.2 drive from STX has NOTHING to do with TPMs. With Waves ETDM the passphrases can be stored on a hidden drive partition OR in the TPM.
Encyption software developers can ALSO generate and store the keys in the TPM. So for me the expression "TPM HARD DRIVE ENCRYPTION" doesn´t exist...
But I love your KABOOOOOOOMS
There´ll soon come the time when we´ll hear these KABOOMS!
BR
ISPRO
Barge...first let me say, that I´m happy to see you posting again! RE: HP
1. HP joined SafeBoot for SOFTWARE based FDE on their notebooks
2. HP has a TPM on nearby ALL of their business notebooks and desktops
3. HP´s BIOS allows you to enter a Preboot DISK Protection password which can be stored within the BIOS chip (weak, since it´s easy to reset the BIOS) OR within the TPM. Thats HP´s Harddisc preboot protection
4. There are many different Seagate 120GB 5400rpm drives out there.
For now I´m SURE that HP cooks their own soup like Lenovo! Nothing momentus FDE.2 or Wave related here....SORRY (I hope I´m wrong!LOL)

OT Embedded security in cars
Information technology is the driving force behind innovations in the automotive industry, with perhaps 90% of all innovations in cars based on electronics and software. Up to 80 embedded processors can be found in a high-end car, and electronics and software will soon be the major single cost factor in car manufacturing. The situation is similar for commercial vehicles such as trucks. One crucial aspect of future IT applications in vehicles is the security of these systems. Whereas software safety is a relatively well established (if not necessarily well understood) field, the protection of automotive IT systems against manipulation has only very recently started to emerge. At the same time, security will be an enabling technology for many - perhaps for most - future automotive IT applications. IT security will both increase reliability and safety, and enable new business models. Now in its 4th year, escar has established itself as the premier forum for information, discussion and exchange of ideas in this innovative field. For the first time, there will be a tutorial covering the main topics of escar on the first day. As in previous years, the program will include invited talks and submitted papers in the following areas:
IT security for driver assistance, telematics, and new business models
IT security for other transport systems (rail, aerospace, etc.)
Security of vehicular communications
Identity theft, privacy and data protection issues in vehicular settings
Digital rights management and trusted computing in vehicles (e.g. for navigation, entertainment, ...)
Secure software downloads, and security for event data recorders (EDR) and tachographs
Car theft prevention through electronic means
Security issues in road pricing

Alea....right on each company looks after their own results. Where HP decided to design their own branded software (and therefore integrated everything other branded in the ProgtectTools), Dell decided to chose Wave as their security PARTNER.
The success of HP or Dell doesn´t rely on WHAT TPM management they use, not YET. IMO the DELL sales and order model seems to lose ground.
Wave needs more penetration through new OEM bundling deals to build a solid ground for their upgrade/FDE/EEE business. Time is our enemy right now, not only concerning our cash position. As the market evolves, the competition will, market share is now cheap, but not for a long time....

Unclever.....I think manufacturers of USB sticks, the first USB Card readers, therefore the manufacturers of the SD/MMC cards (which didn´t exist before), then the flash drives, the solid states drives....
These are all technologies which evolved due to the USB port and didn´t exist before. Some manufacturers made MORE money or didn´t exist before too, I guess.

HP´s TPM strategy(if there is one) is at least CONFUSING!
BR

(edit)ABSOLUTELY NO....EVERY laptop with TPM offered by HP has an IFX TPM and Protect Tools PREINSTALLED!
(edit) But if the customer, asks for ETSL, of course...
BR
ISPRO
Weby.....I don´t expect HP to bundle ETSL, but I expect HP to deliver(offer, preinstall) ETSL/ETS/ETDM on demand. By using DC5750 HP can ask BRCM to deliver their TPMS with ESC, so HP has no issue on the TPM management side anymore.

D&O....not to say it´s impossible, but unlikely. I don´t know the company you metioned, I´m sure there are many examples where shareholders got screwed, but consider the following. Our largest customer Dell relies on Wave software, since Dell designed there security features in their mainstream products all around TPM and Waves software. Don´t you think, Dell looks carefully, when they make such a decision? When do you think Dell negotiates with suppliers for a new product line? One or two years before the rollout, right?
Sure Dell is ONLY the number TWO in the world, but watch out the next years. HP totally missed the TPM train with their confusing TPM/ProtectTools product line politic. (I´ve written many posts on this)HP totally missed the train on HARDWARE based encryption, too. So Dell will succeed in the near future, since they´ll be the number ONE enterprise supplier with the best security out of the box!
IMO Dell KNOWS that the 25M bucks needed to let WAve stay in business will come from THEM alone and Dells is in good company, if you look at Seagate, Intel, Broadcom, ST Micro, Winbond, Atmel, GAteway and some other smaller partners.
NOBODY earns money with this tech right now, but some companies see the paradigm shift and INVEST in it. We shareholders saw and see it too.
Sure we´re all early, the bashers will not lose, they´ll win WITH us or MORE, since they all stay on the sideline and jump on the train when the time has come. And I wouldn´t care if I had invested with an average of 3, WHEN the SP is at 50.
Good sunday all, nite

Dutchbj,CM.....sorry to step in, but IMO it will be a tool to turn on the TPM without touching the BIOS, embedded in the activation routine of Bitlocker.
HP for example has the BIOS configuration tool to make it easier to bind the credentials to the TPM instead of software...
BTW very GOOD for us, since everything you can turn on remote in the OS helps deployment, due to less time consumption for the IT folks.

What we know and what we don´t know....just my opinion.....
When I look on the 1 year SP graphik we see, that our SP is there where it was a year ago. In anticipation of the Seagate FDEs the SP rose to over 3.4 and fell back to 1.78, since the execution lasts longer than anybody expected. We had a financing, the options issue and revenues are not that high we´ve awaited for this time.
So what´s the difference between now and then?
we know...
- We´ve more OS but nearby the same SP
- We earn more money a quarter than the hole year 2005 and we´ll easily double our earnings of 2006. And this WITHOUT any upgrades or FDEs or server sided software.
- We are in ALL new and exsisting Dell business models
- GTW and Intel have more models with Embassy
- Seagate IS NOW SHIPPING to Dell, ASI, TAROX (where we get money) and others.
- We´ve sold ETDM and ERAS seats THIS Q
- Most of the OEMs and White Boxers equip their machines with TPMs
- DoD and other agencies mandate AND buy already TPM machines and a few Wave seats (according to Q2CC SKS)
we don´t know...
- WHEN we´ll reach BE
- IF reaching BE is that important for the SP, with regard to the growth of the enterprise. (imagine revenues of 50M/Q without having reached BE...)
- WHEN new OEMs will join Wave (IMO the FDEs and the centralized management will be the driver for new OEMs to join the party)
- WHEN DoD WILL buy (and ANNOUNCE these buys) software from Wave
- WHEN the first HUGE enterprises will change their security architecture
- WHAT the SP will do, WHEN we announce contracts with gov or major companies out there
what shall we do....
If I knew, but for now, the worst thing we can do is whining, complaining or selling, IMO. Nothing will change the SP except downwards and NOTHING will accelerate Waves revenue ramp. It is what it is and since I believe that most of us are underwater, selling now, right before phase2 (enterprise upgrades and server software) would not be the smartest thing we can do. Sure there is a risk here, but we all know this and knew that when we bought in, but things are looking MUCH better now, than one or two years ago. The world of security IS changing, the question remains, IF Wave will become (remain) the leading part of this new security paradigm.....
I think so, I´ll stay in and do my DD, what about you?
Have a nice sunday all

Cosign.....I´m wondering about the amount of 2.7M. In the former year they always had ab 15M in the SEC filing. I guess you´ll have to paint the worst case scenario in the filing, so I hope no more financing will occur. 2.7M are about 500K FDE and ERAS seats. If Dell/Wave /Seagate can´t sell this quantity in about a year all these company will be hurt and I don´t think STX develops a drive which can´t be sold!
