potential for cleaning up waste frack water
(from the latest newsletter) Last Wednesday, Talbott Howard, Founder and CEO of ECT, showed off our technology at an oil industry conference, hosted by our research partner, California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). In the photo, you can see the progression from Produced water to the final stage.
Drilling yields up to 13 gallons of wastewater for every gallon of petroleum.
In Bakersfield’s Kern County alone, Talbott says we could be recycling 42 billion gallons of Produced water yearly.
Our 2015 documentary, California’s Great Drought: Can The Oil Industry Help? explored how this water could be reused for irrigation.
Now it’s a reality.
Progressive Water Treatment revenue increases:
The growth of OriginClear's wholly-owned subsidiary, Dallas-based Progressive Water Treatment (PWT), fueled this increase in revenue. For the six months ended June 30, 2016, PWT revenue increased by 19 percent over the six months ended June 30, 2015, prior to OriginClear's acquisition of the firm on October 1, 2015.

Impressive OriginClear EWS technology - from the article: "EWS is energy-efficient and can achieve up to a 99.9 percent removal of dispersed oil and a 99.5 percent removal of suspended solids and organics, as well as specific contaminants such as ammonia, phosphorus and hydrogen sulfide, the company says.
“Bundled together with a reverse osmosis system, we can reach an economic cost that is sustainable in the long-term,” Kindler said. “This is what we are trying to show in Bakersfield: reverse osmosis and EWS will make the whole solution sustainable in economic and technical terms.
“Reverse osmosis systems are doing a great job of purifying water but they have a cost: energy to provide the pressure that is needed for these systems to operate and the other cost is maintenance. The dirtier the water, the more often the membrane needs to be changed. What we propose is a solution where, because we have taken out most of the contaminants, reverse osmosis systems will have a much longer life and much lower operation costs.”
Water contracts for farmers in California can cost upwards of $2,000 per acre foot, Kindler says. For comparison, EWS, when used with reverse osmosis, costs between $1,000 and $1,300 per acre foot to treat water.
“Any technology to treat water has a cost,” Kindler said. “We know our solution is one of the most economically competitive on the market, but still it has a cost. And at some point there needs to be a realization that water isn’t just something that falls from the sky. It has to be paid for.”

OriginClear's Electro Water Separation technology
LOS ANGELES, PRNewswire/ -- OriginClear Inc. (OTC/QB: OCLN), a leading provider of water treatment solutions, today announced that an OriginClear licensee will unveil a complete, modular system ("ECOPOD") – now in operation at an oil field near Bakersfield, California – to clean up produced water. The ECOPOD pilot scale system uses OriginClear's Electro Water Separation™ (EWS), requires no chemicals and reliably processes 340 barrels per day of oilfield produced water with minimal operator supervision.
Talbott Howard, CEO and Founder of OriginClear licensee ECT Services & Solutions (ECT), will unveil ECOPOD System 1.0 at today's "Tackling the Drought: Exploring Safe, Innovative Water Sources" conference at California State University at Bakersfield (CSUB), sponsored by the California Independent Petroleum Association and the California Energy Research Center.
Mr. Howard will show how ECOPOD System 1.0 can successfully and competitively treat produced water and recycle it into irrigation quality water for local beneficial reuse.
"Our own Dr. Cabrales of the Department of Physics and Engineering began working with OriginClear to research and validate its technology for oil and gas water cleanup," said Robert M. Negrini, Ph.D., Director of CSUB California Energy Research Center School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering. "We are eager to see how it all came together in the field."
ECT developed the compact ECOPOD System 1.0 (photo) to transform produced water into clean water for use in irrigation and potable water applications. The centerpiece is OriginClear's commercial-scale P3000, designed to treat up to 3000 barrels per day. The ECT team implemented additional scrubbing and polishing steps to achieve potable grade water. The entire process is chemical-free and is extremely energy-efficient while reducing the rate water evaporates during re-use.
"Drilling yields up to 13 gallons of wastewater for every gallon of petroleum," said Talbott Howard. "Federal and state pressure on the oil industry to recycle that water – potentially increased by Proposition 1 spending – is creating a major business opportunity for ECT to treat up to 42 billion gallons a year in Kern County. There's also a possible bonus in recovering more valuable crude oil and rare earth minerals. Prospective customers are now visiting the site and we are ready for commercial deployment on a (Just-In-Time) schedule."
"My hat is off to the ECT team for succeeding under intense deadlines," said Jean-Louis (JL) Kindler, President of OriginClear's Technology division. "I especially want to thank Nicholas Eckelberry and Michael Green who have spent many hours on this project."
OriginClear in Bakersfield

Hi again!
It’s been an exciting summer. Recently I toured the USA with Bill Charneski to visit potential acquisitions, and we are deep in discussions…
Meanwhile, our Technology team has really stolen the limelight!
Bakersfield is happening. Earlier this summer, our licensee, ECT Services & Solutions, purchased a commercial demo-scale system from us and built its ECOPOD around it.
The ECOPOD is now in operation at an oil field evaporation pond in the Bakersfield area. It is reliably cleaning what they call “Produced water”.
(We’re focusing on beneficial re-use such as irrigation.)
You see, California regulators are pushing for recycling of this Produced water. The oil industry is willing, but existing methods have been expensive and often use chemicals. Combining our technology with its own, ECT believes it can clean water to drinkable standards for a reasonable price. Oil industry execs have been visiting the site, and are excited.
Last Wednesday, Talbott Howard, Founder and CEO of ECT, showed off our technology at an oil industry conference, hosted by our research partner, California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB). In the photo, you can see the progression from Produced water to the final stage.

Now it’s a reality.
I’m very proud of the OriginClear field team, headed by our co-founder and chief inventor, Nicholas Eckelberry, who also consults for ECT. He works closely with ECT’s Chief Technology Officer, Mike Green, a veteran member of our own technology team from some years back. They are making our technology work reliably and commercially.
Electro Water Separation™ is becoming an accepted, next-generation technology!
(And it’s generating revenue for our Technology Division, too.)
Have a great week!

At the Half-Year Mark, OriginClear Gross Profit Increases By 1,853% While Operating Losses Narrow by 36%
PR Newswire August 17, 2016
LOS ANGELES and DALLAS, Aug. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- OriginClear Inc. (OTC/QB: OCLN), a leading provider of water treatment solutions, today announced that its 2nd Quarter 10-Q filing revealed that, for the six months ended June 30, 2016, revenues increased 2,323 percent, and gross profit by 1,853 percent, over the six months ended 2015.
Revenues were $3,165,180, compared with $136,280 for the six months ended June 30, 2015, and gross profit was $967,057 for the six months ended June 30, 2016 compared with $49,986 for the six months ended June 30, 2015.
During the same period, the Company continued to aggressively reduce corporate overhead and operating costs. Loss from operations decreased by 36 percent to $1,734,142, from $2,716,466 in the same period last year.
"The performance of PWT validates our acquisition strategy," said Riggs Eckelberry, Chairman and CEO of OriginClear. "President Marc Stevens, and the entire PWT team, are to be congratulated for the quality of their projects both large and small, resulting in very happy customers."
Percentile increases for the second quarter of 2016 were similar. For the three months ended June 30, 2016, company-wide revenue increased by 1,967 percent over the three months ended June 30, 2015. Over the same period, gross profit increased by 1,786 percent.
The company continues to pursue its acquisition strategy, responsible for these increases.
"We are being very selective," said Bill Charneski, President of the OriginClear Group™. "We have declined more than a dozen opportunities presented to us in order to focus on the right ones. We are confident that the current set of prospective acquisitions, if consummated, will help position us for growth in the new era of decentralized water treatment."
