Thanks, Chico, That is what I thought, that's why it is so hard to explain a system/procedure to someone else.

Sammy, go to help in QT and then to Paintbars in the index.
There is a good example of all the positioning choices for the PBs. Study that page and you will get real good with the PBs.

This is the mental image I got from the microsoft article discussing why 32 Bit windoz could not use the full 4 Gig of Main Memory. Reminds me of when BIOS and other slow memory items were shadowed to ram (years ago and win 3.11)..

They can be entered at 9:29 and later -- since the amex usually opens at 9:34 to 9:37, they are right there.
The broker says 9:28 is the cutoff for the "Cross Open Stuff"
certainly not as convenient as entering them at 8 to 10 pm the day before.
Grinchy, I believe W98 may not have drivers to support your new hardware, so if you can run the game, you may not be able to use the newest hardware capabilities. I have no clue if hardware vendors still develop W98 drivers, Bruce probably could tell you that, or start checking you H/W support sites.

Hi Jim, over the past weekend I saw an advertisement on tv, begging people to send any gold items, and promising 5% more than any competing national buyer.
That reminded me of gold sentiment, and the front page effect on magezines such as Business Week, tho it was a TV ad.

Hi Sammy, I am back with Steve n MVP as of this morning. Considering changing brokers. Just made my trades after the open this morning to skip the cross open crap. Have emailed several questions to the broker about bypassing the cross open possibility.
bobjack
YA, That's a great deal -- I think Road Runner Cable around here has free AV n Firewall. I have Zoomtown DSL - they hawk F-Secure for $1.95 a month. That is for up to 3 computers. NOT REALLY bad at @ $24 per yr. I don't know how good the fsecure stuff is. Youe note prompted me to look into the zoomtown offering, THANKS

Hi Steve, I really don't want to switch brokers, BUT, I may have to!! I am gonna research IB.
I am still lickin my wounds, but, AT LEAST my bad luck didn't tank MVP!!!
I usually have that sense of perfect "REVERSE" Timing -- When I finally get back on board with MVP, you will have just completed a string of winners in a row, and then get that expected loser just as I sign up, JUST as I get on again... LOL
Or WORSE, I'll switch to IB, and THEN, they will switch to the cross-opening CRAPOLA.
bobjack
Hi Sammy, I was using Steve's MVP for a short time and got burnt by cross-opening prices and have been just mostly licking my wounds. I have watched NERS and many other short time systems and tried them in the past and have been trying them a little since the cross-opening fiasco.
I am about ready to bite the bullet and try MVP again. I really don't wanna switch brokers, BUT, I might have to. I like TDAmeritrade because they have a local office. I feel like IB and others may be more likely to DIE, if brokers are tied into the mortgage crap. It may be a false sense of SECURITY, but I have more faith in TDA than some others.
The Ifs, Ands, and Buts, always seem to catch me!! Gleno, Freemarkets, AND MYSELF are always Bad Omens when we follow some system or whoever. I usually start to follow a system just as it HICCUPS or tanks. I was afraid that I would tank MVP, BUT, MVP did OK, I just got tanked in spite of MVP being a winner.
bobjack
EDIT: TDA insists that they have hardky nothing tied to subprime BEAST -- MAX of 3.5% in some money mkt funds, and none otherwise. Just have always trusted them in those regards.

TREND1, Your chart does not look right -- are you using a tick chart?? Farooq's chart is a normal 5 Min Candlestick Chart.
Here is todays (Dec4) 5 Min Candlestick of QID with RSI(14,5).
Compare it to yours. I still don't think your chart is right -- maybe I am full of horse pucky about the SIGNAL being an EMA, maybe it is an SMA.
I am having trouble with your bars, as well as your RSI. The premarket bars will throw off the look of the indicators.
The Hourly marks on the bottom of your chart jump from 12:00 to 06:00. Is that 12 noon to 06:00, or 12 midnight to 06:00.
Just compare normal hrs (without premarket hrs) to influence the readings.
bobjack
Hey TREND1, Sheeesh Mon, Then That was a very fruitful message for you. I am VERY GLAD to hear that.
As you can tell, I KNEW/KNOW nothing of eSignal. Never saw anything of it except the name. If I didn't use QT myself, I would not have been able to tell ya what was goin on.
You should be able to make esig dance any way ya want then. If my old tired memory can retain it, I'll remember to call on you for help in the future for minor programming thoughts. I probably know about 1/1000000 of what you know.
When you start makin the bucks that Farooq is makin, ya gotta show me, OK, LOL
bobjack
TREND1, when you setup your RSI Indicator in YOUR esignal software, does it let you put 2 parameters in??
That is where you would input the "RSI 14,5".
IF, you cannot input 2 parameters, you can NEVER duplicate Farooq's RSI 14,5 WITHOUT changing to a DIFFERENT Software, such as Quotetracker as Farooq has suggested to you.
When you tell quotetracker that you want to setup an RSI indicator, it has 2 separate boxes for the 2 parmeters, Main and Signal (The "signal line" is a 5 Period EMA of the "Main Line", Which is a 14 Period RSI of the Closing Price.
The Signal is an Indicator on/of the Main Indicator (EMA of an RSI).
You can get a half-arsed APPROXIMATION by inserting an RSI 14 and inserting an RSI 70 (which is 5 times 14), and watching for their cross on the 5 min chart. You could NEVER trade by it tho!! Farooq never uses the RANGE or SCALE READING of the RSI indicator at all (As he has described his setup, anyway).
You can use your eSignal access for a quote source for Quotetracker.
Don't know if this makes it clearer or more confusing, BUT, Good Luck,
bobjack
Hi Steve, "Bob, can a brokerage be instructed NOT to do that ?" -- I don't think so -- Supposedly, A "market order" submitted AFTER 9:28 am of the active day will not be treated to the cross open stuff. Other than that, I think a limit order is necessary, or change of brokers.
Honestly, that is a question that I didn't think to ask. I will when I get ready to try something again, I am still licking my wounds, or I would be buying you dinner.

"On the XP install, it runs like a dream. It really does. I have not found one thing wrong with it there"
Thanks for the clarification. I, as well as all my friends still have XP. I usually throw AVG n Zonealarm on my friends machines, and mine too, for that matter.
I have avira on an old laptop.
Every few months the free stuff bullies you into thinking you "HAFTA" buy it -- OK for me since I know better, BUT, not good for my friends who don't know how to deal with it, once I install it for them. I have been tempted to reccomend Norton to them, especially with the 3 computer pack for $50 (only after your good words, as I said)...
Is there any real reason why Zonealarm should really hafta get updated every 3 months or so???
I have just suspected that it is a ploy to keep trying to get their foot in the door to subscriptions.
I play around with linux sometimes. A few of em are ready for prime time, as I see it. You can even run a fair amt of windows software in linux, BUT, ya gotta jump thru hoops to get it set up on init install of the programs, am I get concerned about fixin linux if it breaks. The bad thing for me is the way they all (different versions of linux) put files in different locations. At least windoz puts most stuff in /programs. Since Ameritrade came out with strategydesk, I run it and quotetracker too much to go into the linux arena.
"Thus far, I actually like it, which embarasses me to no end"
That is funny -- I like your sense of humor.

Hi Free, Thanks for the input.
I think you make some good points. The cross opening stuff only applies to market orders placed before 09:28.
The cross opening stuff can help one (as in your case last week) or hurt one. The worst thing is that it is different from others, and it will foul up the results of a backtested system, or foul up the fwd live trading (relative to the backtested results) of a system.
Do you know why the AMEX opens late so often??
bobjack
Sammy, I only used MVV n MZZ for the leverage. MDY is probably in the same situation for that cross-opening stuff.
If more brokers go to that, BUT all don't, there will always be an uneven playing field between brokers. BUT, that could be a knife that cuts BOTH ways, it might help ya one trade and hurt ya next trade.
What I experienced did put me in a real minority, BUT, could spread and certainly says "MAYBE" one needs to use "Limit orders" and "neve use market orders", even at the open.
AGAIN, not Steve's Fault, BUT, none-the-less, a killer to the use of his system in some broker/trading situations.
Everytime that I think I got a handle on the Ifs, ands, and buts, I get my head (or pick some other body part) handed to me in some new way!!
bobjack
Hi Sammy,
You can do everything right, and follow a great system, and still lose money as you know. I have followed Steve and MVP progress for a couple of years. I like Steve and I believe in his system!! A "REAL FLY IN THE OINTMENT" for me, while trading mvp was getting very different trade opening and closing numbers. The last "long switching to short" trade was based on using market orders for next day open. I use TDAmeritrade whom is now using some new method of establishing open/close numbers for many ETFs which trade on the AMEX. The new method would be fine if all brokers used it, BUT, they do not. Similar to NAZDAQ, where there is one price for buyers and sellers on the open (No Spread) seemed to be a great thing to me, BUT, the sell MVV open prices I got were $4 less than The AMEX quoted price (which apparantly everyone else got) and then I paid $55 for MZZ in certain accounts, where I and others paid $53.25 for MZZ in other accounts.
That means that on the SWAP, I lost $4 + $1.75 for $5.75 loss that had to be overcome just to break even.
This all had nothing to do with Steve and MVP, BUT, was all related to the brokers and exchanges. BUT, that affects whether you make or lose money with whatever system you use/follow.
BELOW is a message exchange with Steve about it.

bobjack wrote: Steve,
I did get an explanation from TDameritrade on that MVV discrepancy. The news blurb on the cross opening prices, is a "TDameritrade" policy. I got the NASDAQ Cross Opening price, while everyone else got the official AMEX opening price.
At TDA, MVV and MZZ are part of this new policy!!
There are so many If's, AND's, and BUT's, that I am about ready to throw up my hands.
The opening shown on stockcharts yesterday was 83.25.
I don't know what to say now,
have a great day,

I do not know if mvv and mzz are part of it. This is supposed to alleviate a lot of the opening shenanigans.
I had fills that varied by 2 dollars yesterday -- what crap. I had couple MVV that had to sell before i could buy MZZ in ira -- (All market orders) that may have had some bearing on it tho.
I had sell MVV mkt sell filled at $83.25 @ 09:31:13 timestamp and MZZ mkt buy filled at $55.00 @ 09:32:21.
These 2 were in margin acct and both were mkt orders for open.
I had sell MVV mkt sell filled at $83.25 @ 09:31:14 timestamp and MZZ mkt buy filled at $53.25 @ 09:37:25.
These 2 were in an ira acct and both were mkt orders - sell MVV at open, buy MZZ at mkt on condition of SELL MVV..
I had sell MVV mkt sell filled at $83.25 @ 09:31:14 timestamp and MZZ mkt buy filled at $53.25 @ 09:37:24.
These 2 were in a tiny roth ira acct and both were mkt orders - sell MVV at open, buy MZZ at mkt on condition of SELL MVV..
I had MZZ mkt buy filled at $55.00 @ 09:32:24 in another tiny roth ira
SO, all my MVV sells were at $83.25 and you said all the others were $87.10 -- I GOT SCREWED BIG TIME

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the explanation --
I didn't bring the issue up, BUT, I REALLY appreciate the Q & A for NFI.
Sounds like another case of the Worthless SEC protecting us as investors, AND small companies, AS USUAL.

gloe, you might want to read the "second" link in the message that you replied to (#16008). That link explains all the different versions of raid and the terms used, so that you can pick the right config for "your" purposes and budget.
RAID Level 1 uses two hard drives, and duplicates all data on the two drives. GREAT for safety, but you only get to use half the capacity of both drives. using two 250 Gig drives total 500 Gig, but you only have 250 gig of storage, because you "duplicate or mirror" the same data on both drives.
This would be "my" choice for my system safety, and my budget.
RAID is the painless way to have a total "BOOTABLE" backup of your data and O/S.
You could just use another internal of external drive with back-up software to clone all of your main drive, or just backup your data.
Lots of choices.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the response. I bought 1 MLTQL MID May 860 Put yesterday at 39.90 -- it went up 2 bucks while I tried to decide to go options on MDY, options on MID, or buy MZZ. The bang for the buck would have been same on mar, april, and may 860 -- ODDLY enough today they all were bid/ask about the same. The may 860 probably only had one buyer yesterday (me) and one seller today (me). There was no premium today for the longer term of the time factor -- shocked me!! Just in-the-money value. There was no buying/selling inbetween bid/ask either. Just no volume!!
I bailed as 5 min ema (20) and sma (20) flattened and price was going over them at about 1:15. CCI on 5 and 15 min were showing possible change of trend too. Got out of my one put at 47.20 which had been up to 50 few minutes earlier, and fell to 41.10 at 3:09. There was a big spread between bid/ask too. Woulda bot mzz if the price had bounced off bottom of the sma 20 and ema 20. I decided that the proper way to play would have been to just buy MZZ for more money (100% of account)-- i only put about 8% of port on the one put, and cleared about $750. If i hada used MZZ for more buck, i would cleared about 2500. POOR choice for the trading vehicle. IF it gaps way down tomorrow, I got out way too early, not waiting on the sell signal. Spread on mzz got up to about 9 cents at the turning point. Spread on MDY was very small, but having to short or use margin to get leverage was a consideration. What are your thoughts on the best vehicle, after the fact? As I said, I am beginning to think it was MZZ for risk/reward play considering spreads on the mid options and using 5 to 8 percent of the account.
If you don't call for a sell tomorrow morning, i will watch for another trend shift to down and jump on mzz (if no big gap down, that is), tomorrow or fri.
bobjack
Hi LP2, Thanks for the response, it gave me something to think about to plan my move. I threw up a chart of mid with 5m rsi, mfi, and looked at chart of VIX defore I jumped. I spent too much time trying to decide on a vehicle and exp month, and missed part of the move down.
