Kendall Grove vs. Ikuhisa Minowa Headlines Next ProElite Fight Card
Posted on December 9, 2011 by MMAWeekly.com Staff
ProElite on Friday announced that its next event will take place on Jan. 21 at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. UFC veteran Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove will face Pride veteran Ikuhisa “The Punk” Minowa in the main event with the semifinal round of the ProElite Heavyweight Grand Prix also featured on the card.
ProElite: Da Spyder vs. The Punk will be televised live on HDNet at 10 p.m. ET.
Grove (13-9) enters the fight coming off of a 59-second guillotine submission win over Joe Riggs at ProElite’s last Hawaiian card on Aug. 27. Minowa (51-32-8) is on a four-fight winning streak. Despite a career that spans 15 years, the fight with Grove marks Minowa’s North American debut.
The Honolulu fight card also features the first semifinal match of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, and showcases the very tough Ryan Martinez (6-1) taking on headhunter Cody Griffin (5-2).
The opposite bracket features the heavy hitting Jake Heun (2-1) against the biggest physical competitor in the tournament at 6-foot-5, Richard Odoms (6-0).

Strikeforce Negotiations with Showtime Stuck in Stalemate
Written by Tom Ngo
December 6th, 2011
Despite the fact UFC president Dana White stepped in to spearhead talks between Strikeforce and Showtime in October, nothing has materialized in regards to a contract extension with the premium cable network. During Tuesday’s conference call, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker (Pictured) stated the two sides are still stuck in a stalemate.
“There’s nothing to announce, but I’m optimistic at this point,” Coker expressed. “We’ll just have to wait and see, but I think things are going well and I think we’ll have something to announce shortly.”
In September, White claimed Showtime had another month to decide if they wanted to renew or cancel a five-year broadcast agreement they arranged back in February of 2009. It was initially reported Strikeforce had roughly two years remaining on their current deal with Showtime. However, during a follow up conference call, it was clarified that their broadcast partnership could be extended until 2014 if the option was picked up.
Showtime hosts their next Strikeforce broadcast on December 17th. Although the trusty rumor mill professes a January 7th show is also in the works, Coker wasn’t able to provide any information on that situation, either.
“Right now we don’t have anything to announce on that fight card,” Coker added. “There’s still some details to work out, so that’s still a pending event.
“If it does happen, we’re gonna go for it and promote the heck out of it. To me, the most important thing when you’re promoting an event is the last six weeks. So we still have time to get this thing activated.”
Well, according to my calendar there’s 32 days until game time. So it appears Strikeforce is buried behind the 8-ball. Either way, the clock is ticking – not just on the January show but possibly the organization’s future, as well.

I actually hope it is just that a formal announcement on the next Event would be great and yes I would expect the Venue, the match up on the Fights and yes the Broadcast Partner would also be great so yes good call! This would be great NEWS! Oh and don't forget they might even give the date of the next Event that might be key for people maybe wanting to to tune in. lol!
The Fight Records on the Web Site I personally don't care about if they are exact or not as there are lots of other sites for that kind of thing and the Web Site fighter records updates again people do want to know whether they fight for that Promotion or not but personally do not think they are going to decide whether this company or Event is the one they want to watch or follow based on whether they update the Fighter Stats. That's just my opinion and I am not sure I am not sure that's the location I want them focusing the money on as I think the Events and Promotion of Events and Company should be the big focus in my books! IMO!

Interesting but either way there are lots of options that will remain for Pro!
It is interesting also to note their are multiple Contracts up for grabs even on this front.
If the one with ShowTime remains, the one on CBS is really a whole different Contract as CBS is the Parent Company with it's own Main and distinct Brand with CBS Sports and very doubtingly if the Contract does get down with ShowTime, I doubt it will include CBS in any way with the UFC on Fox as these are directly competing interests and not one that I bet CBS is not willing to entertain with the directly identified second tier product of Strikeforce( which will only ever be a feeder organization to the UFC as it may or may not continue to exist ).
It is also important to note that it is CBS that is the parent company who remain significant Shareholders in ProElite and will see CBS Sports as it's main stage.
The other thing of important note is there are actually 2 separate Contracts up for grabs even on ShowTime, one with Strikeforce and one with M1(M1-Global), both of which we remain without any firm confirmation at this time that they are or will be renewed, it is my guess that ShowTime would have no issue in carrying 2 separate Brands and Shows as it does today only with the brands being the one 2nd tier Product( Strikeforce or should it see fit maybe M1 in its place if it can't do a deal with them ) along side of its targeted 1st Tier Product( ProElite ) and no reason why both could not be successful with different targets and the aim in doing so.
And none of this includes the other huge range of options with a range of other Networks and premier Broadcasters as well the fact we already have a premier MMA geared station already Broadcasting our Events in HDNET, leaving us in no rush but well positioned to make the right Big Deal with whomever we choose!
Go ProElite!

Keith Jardine to Challenge for Strikeforce Middleweight Title, Because Who Even Cares at This Point
(Unlicensed plastic surgery: It rarely works out the way you want it to.)
As we mentioned yesterday, Strikeforce is clinging on to life despite the fact that their biggest stars have either been poached or are on hiatus from fighting, and their championship belts now have less legitimacy than that chick’s doo-doo back tattoo. So how sketchy have things gotten over there? This sketchy:
Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is slated to defend his belt against former UFC veteran Keith Jardine on Jan. 7, MMA Fighting has confirmed with sources close to the fight. The title fight is expected to headline the organization’s first event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino…Rockhold was expected to meet Tim Kennedy in his first title defense, but according to sources, Kennedy couldn’t commit to the fight due to an undisclosed injury.
Keep in mind that Jardine is 0-0 as a middleweight, and 0-0-1 under the Strikeforce banner, with his only SF appearance resulting in an ugly (and sort of undeserved) draw against Gegard Mousasi. And yet he’s the best available contender to Luke Rockhold’s belt? Considering who Strikeforce still has left on their middleweight roster, he very well might be — but it’s still the kind of matchup that makes a strong argument for non-title fights.
I hate to see the once-proud Strikeforce promotion limping along like this. It’s time to take Lenny out to the woods, so to speak.

Hitomi Akano vs Sara McMann Targeted For ProElite 3
By Robert Sargent on December 3, 2011
Hitomi Akano vs Sara McMann Targeted For ProElite 3Former Smackgirl Middleweight Champion Hitomi “Girlfight Monster” Akano has agreed to a three-fight deal with ProElite. The submission specialist is expected to face 2004 Olympic silver medallist in freestyle wrestling Sara McMann at ProElite 3 on January 21, 2012 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
A source close to the negotiations confirmed the news with MMARising.com early today. Akano has won three of her past four fights, with the lone defeat coming against Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate last year. McMann remains unbeaten and won her ProElite debut in August.
Akano (18-8-0) has battled many of the sport’s top female fighters at 135 pounds during her seven-year career. Her résumé includes victories over rivals Takayo Hashi, Hiroko Yamanaka, Carina Damm and Roxanne Modafferi. Of her 14 submission wins, 13 have come via a form of armbar and Akano’s ground game remains among the best in her division. The Megumi Fujii protégé has been stopped only once, in a 2009 bout with a much larger Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, who later went on to capture the Strikeforce women’s featherweight title. Akano brings a significant experience advantage into her ProElite debut with McMann, who has fought just four times as a professional.
McMann (4-0-0) made her long-awaited pro debut in late May after a number of planned bouts fell apart at the last minute. She scored a first-round submission in her debut and returned to action just three weeks later by stopping Julie Malenfant in 32 seconds at BlackEye Promotions 4. Maintaining a very active schedule, McMann took a big step up in competition to face veteran wrestler Tonya Evinger for Titan Fighting Championship in late July. She passed the test with flying colours and defeated Evinger by Unanimous Decision. McMann most recently submitted Raquel Pa’aluhi in the third round of a spirited bout at ProElite 1 in August.
The bout between Akano and McMann will be contested at 135 pounds and will be a featured part of the ProElite 3: “Grove vs Minowa” card. The event takes place on January 21, 2012 at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Strikeforce Challengers 20: 143,000 viewers
November 25, 2011
MMA Junkie reports that last week’s Strikeforce Challengers 20 on Showtime scored a lowly average of 143,000 viewers. The numbers indicate the lowest rating for the series as well as a 30 percent decrease from the previous Strikeforce Challengers edition which averaged 203,000 viewers.
The show received a 0.42 household rating (via Wrestling Observer, subscription required).
The show featured Ronda Rousey submitting Julia Budd with an armbar. Replays were gruesome as Budd’s arm was bent a way it should not have. In addition, Lumumba Sayers knocked out Antwain Britt in the first round.
Payout Perspective:
With Bellator and the UFC holding cards on Saturday night, Strikeforce Challengers seemed overlooked. This does not bode well for the series and we will see what impact the dismal ratings may have for the future of Strikeforce on Showtime.

Multiple reports are stating that ProElite has targeted January 21 for their third event, which is taking place at Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. HDNet is expected to broadcast ProElite 3's main card, which will feature a middleweight fight between Kendall Grove and Ikuhisa Minowa. Looks like everything is well in the revival of ProElite. This middleweight fight is a great one too. I would imagine Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia will be on this card in some capacity. Maybe a Part 4?

Kendall Grove draws “Minowaman” at January ProElite event
By: Jack Burton Posted On: November 23, 2011 at 8:00am
Ultimate Fighter Season 3 champion Kendall Grove will look to continue his winning ways early next year when he faces Japanese star Ikuhisa Minowa in the main event of the re-vamped ProElite’s third offering. Grove is already 1-0 under the promotion’s banner since being released by the UFC and will return to the friendly confines of the Neil Blaisdell Center in his home State of Hawaii for the bout with “Minowaman”.
Grove Wins Big in Front of Fellow Hawaiians
News of the January 21 match-up was first reported by MMAFighting.
The 13-9 Grove struggled to find his footing in the UFC after notching success in back-to-back battles immediately on the heels of his TUF 3 win, going 4-6 in the following ten tussles including two victories by way of Split Decision. However, the 28-year old looked as sharp as he had in years against veteran Joe Riggs in August at ProElite’s inaugural event where he tapped out “Diesel” in less than a minute.
Minowa, who is said to have signed an exclusive North American deal with ProElite, will enter the cage on a four-fight winning streak and an enormous advantage in the experience department with an overall record of 51-32-8. Also worth mentioning is the fact the legendary competitor has submitted 35 of the opponents he’s beaten and found success against larger opponents such as Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Gilbert Yvel.
ProElite 3 also expected to feature undefeated Olympic wrestler Sara McMann in action as well as the second round of the organization’s ongoing Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Grove vs. Minowaman, McMann and Heavyweight Grand Prix at Pro Elite 3
Posted on November 22, 2011 by Damon Martin
Pro Elite will move forward with their third show since coming under new leadership, and this time they are adding a little flair to the card.
The main event bout scheduled to take place at Pro Elite 3, currently scheduled for Jan 21 in Hawaii, will feature former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ winner Kendall Grove against Ikuhisa ‘Minowaman’ Minowa.
The middleweight match-up will lead the card as confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the promotion on Tuesday.
Minowa is a popular figure around the Japanese fight scene, having competed in Dream, Pride and several other organizations. Meanwhile, Grove will look to build on his last win, a quick submission win over Joe Riggs at the debut Pro Elite card back in August.
Also expected for the third Pro Elite card will be rising women’s star Sara McMann, who currently holds a perfect 4-0 record in the sport, and hopes to move that to five in a row when she fights in January. No opponent has been named for McMann yet, but Pro Elite is currently searching and hopes to find a suitable fighter in the coming weeks.
Also scheduled for the Pro Elite 3 card will the semifinals of their heavyweight Grand Prix, which kicked off at their last show in Illinois.
The four remaining participants include Ryan Martinez, Jake Heun, Cody Griffin and Richard Odoms.
More fights are expected to be announced for the Jan 21 event in the coming weeks. The show will take place at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii and will be broadcast on HDNet.

Strikeforce Death Watch Update
Submitted by fightlinker on November 23, 2011 - 2:35pm
It's been a couple weeks since Dana White implied a deal with Strikeforce was about to either go through or fall apart. Yet here we are still waiting to find out what the fate of the promotion will be. Part of that has to be because Showtime just replaced their head sports honcho. General meddler and Dana White nemesis Ken Hershman is out, boxing lawyer Stephen Espinoza is in. While most of Espinoza's clients were boxers or boxing promoters, he's also represented Gina Carano. So read into that what you will.
You can read into this whatever you want as well: it sounds like the UFC wants to scrap their women's 145 pound division. Here's Cris Cyborg talking about it:
You were commenting you got a new four-bout contract with Strikeforce. What are your expectations?
I signed the contract for these four fights after UFC purchased Strikeforce, so I guess they’ll keep us, they’ll keep the female divisions and female MMA keeps growing and growing, and I guess they’re keeping the girls, and it depends on what we do to call UFC’s attention.
There two divisions and they want to unify it to a single female division. In that case you’d have to lose a lot of weight. How do you see it?
Actually there’re still two weight divisions: 135lbs and 145lbs. It’s already hard for me to drop to 145lbs, I gotta work a lot and they’re thinking about one division only, they asked me if I could do it. I can try, it’s not impossible. Let’s see... I guess that, in the future, there’ll be some news.
It’d be good for you to have more opponents to fight against, right?
It’ll be hard because I got a lot of weight to lose, but it’d be good because I could fight more. I guess it’s important to keep active, it’s my job, so I’ll try it to stay here.
So why would the UFC bother to make plans regarding their women's divisions (even destructive plans like this!) if they weren't going to stick around? Well, it could just be them going through the motions so when this whole deal falls apart they can honestly say they were preparing to continue in good faith. Or maybe the guys at Zuffa just like the idea of forcing women onto diets.
Meanwhile, Strikeforce ratings aren't exactly skyrocketing. Other than that World Grand Prix semi-final that performed shittily, it's been all Challenger events going down in flames. And last Friday's event was the worst yet!
The November 18th event -- headlined by Lumumba Sayers vs. Antwain Britt and Ronda Rousey vs. Julia Budd -- drew an average of just 143,000 viewers -- the lowest in the history of the series and a drop of 60,000 viewers from their September 23rd Challengers event that featured Lorenz Larkin vs. Nick Rossborough and Lavar Johnson vs. Shawn Jordan.
Challengers shows are doomed to begin with. Strikeforce is already considered a second tier organization. Who wants to watch the second tier of the second tier? Now you know my girl Ronda Rousey was on that card and I got mad love for her. So this isn't a knock against the fighters on these cards ... just a frank assessment of how these events are perceived.
Continuing on the line of frank assessments, the UFC has also gotten some heat for appearing to drop the ball on promoting several events during the leadup and aftermath of the big UFC on FOX deal. Here's Dana White admitting that promotion has been a bit FUBAR lately:
What you guys have to understand is we're in this weird place right now we're leaving our old deal, moving into the new deal. we're in this huge crazy transition period. And all the things that would be going on on our old network would be helping this fight.
We're going to have a rocky end of the year here. And we knew that was going to happen. We were expecting it.We're putting on great fights, it's going to be a great end of the year as far as fights go but it feels weird to everybody, like you said it doesn't feel like there's buzz and this and that.
There's a reason for that. There's a formula for everything that we've done over the six years while we were on Spike. And that's all changing now. It's all completely different. Everything that used to happen isn't happening. So there's gonna be this wierd transition period. That's why i'm just looking forward to January and getting all this stuff rolling.

Brent Schermerhorn vs. Kaleo Gambill set for ProElite 3
by Steven Marrocco on Nov 23, 2011 at 7:30 pm ET
Two ProElite veterans with recent knockout wins will meet at the promotion's third event.
A source close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Brent Schermerhorn (4-1) vs. Kaleo Gambill (1-0) has been added to ProElite 3.
As MMAjunkie.com earlier reported, ProElite 3 is expected to take place Jan. 21 at Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, and its main card is expected to air on HDNet. A middleweight matchup between ProElite veteran Kendall Grove and Ikuhisa Minowa has already been booked for the event.
Schermerhorn, a product of Chris Leben's Ultimate Fight School, appeared on the preliminary card of ProElite 1 in August and knocked out Jesse Lundgren in less than two minutes. Three of his five pro wins come within the first round by way of stoppage due to strikes.
Gambill, a student of future UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn, hopes to build on his first pro victory, which also came at Pro Elite 1. It took him seven fewer seconds than Schermerhorn to earn a TKO over Eldon Sproat on the event's preliminary card.

Strikeforce Challengers Ratings Hit All-Time Low
by Josh Nason on Nov 22, 2011 8:00 PM EST in Strikeforce News
Not a lot of people tuned in to see Ronda Rousey submit Julia Budd at Strikeforce Challengers last Friday.
While there has still been no announcement regarding the future of Strikeforce, the ratings for last Friday night's Challengers event are in and they're not good.
The Friday show featured Sayers knocking out Britt in just 28 seconds and Rousey submitting Budd in just 39 seconds. Of the five fights that made air, there were first-round finishes in four of them.
The viewership is the lowest since the October 20, 2010, Challengers show headlined by Roger Bowling vs. Bobby Voelker and Lavar Johnson vs. Virgil Zwicker.
Strikeforce has one more event scheduled for 2011 with Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez vs. Jorge Masvidal and Women's Featherweight Champion Cris Santos vs. Hiroko Yamanaka scheduled for Saturday, December 17th. The promotion's contract with Showtime has been said to run out in February 2012 and UFC President Dana White revealed recently that he's taken over negotiations on whether Strikeforce will continue with the network past that date.

While many company's issue shares few so blatantly diluting the Stock with no available and/or legitimate real plan on how to generate a revenue so that shares holders may have some opportunity to see a legitimate increase in Share values based on real and legitimate potential.
Please note directly from Reported Information "Mundus is a going concern as of 2011 and only though stock sales and vigorous financing will it continue". The company appears to continue a pattern of dumping Shares on the Market effectively mass diluting the Stock and Shares Value then the Reverse Split only to watch Share Values crash once again while having more Shares to repeat the process with a new group of unaware or naive Investors. Not sure this is a "Strategy" at all or one that many would appreciate and have not seen a Plan on how they plan to change this trend. All IMO. I truly wish they had a Plan.
Again you had mentioned the Chart, so here is the Chart, I am sill not so sure it looks so great.
http://www.google.com//finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&chds=1&chdv=1&chvs=maximized&chdeh=0&chfdeh=0&chdet=1321650000000&chddm=40664&chls=IntervalBasedLine&q=PINK:MNDP&
They appear to have something of a product( Not talking about the Bug Zappers although that was pretty funny ) and they appears to something of a potential market. They do NOT appear to be able to capture any of it and any past gains appear to have been lost. And they do not appear to have plan on how to change things for the company or investors. Very Disappointing! Buyer Beware until they can make such changes and even then Buyer Beware as always! IMO.
Not really. The company appears to use Share sales to fund operations. Company Reported in in there last quarterly Report "Note 9 – Going Concern Management currently states that Mundus is a going concern as of 2011 and only though stock sales and vigorous financing will it continue." No Contracts for Sales and no plan available on how it plans to generate sales.
Here is the Chart, not so sure it looks so great.
http://www.google.com//finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&chds=1&chdv=1&chvs=maximized&chdeh=0&chfdeh=0&chdet=1321650000000&chddm=40664&chls=IntervalBasedLine&q=PINK:MNDP&
I personally think SF is dead as we know it and that is also the opinion of many. I do not think anybody in their right mind will renew the Contracts with SF. The UFC will continue to "push" their wares on Fox and PPV, Spike for the next year will continue to push UF and the UFC Library and Bellator is already on MTV2 and is already headed to Spike.
There is no way the UFC wants to compete with itself and CBS/ShowTime know it. Pro is the only real Game in town and is already looking to do there 3rd Show with BIG Plans for 2012, with or without them! I think this is a done Deal whether any Contract has been signed yet or not but I expect we will hear something and sometime all very soon. All IMO.
Go ProElite!
Got to like it!!! Dana White - "Plus ShowTime's still in the Game too!" Ariel Helwani - "You really see those guys going out" Dana White - "Get READY!"
Things are definitely looking very good for Pro and I expect we will hear something on the next Fight Card early next week, Monday by the sounds of it is the Plan for an Announcement!
