Kendall Grove draws “Minowaman” at January ProElite event By: Jack Burton Posted On: November 23, 2011 at 8:00am
Ultimate Fighter Season 3 champion Kendall Grove will look to continue his winning ways early next year when he faces Japanese star Ikuhisa Minowa in the main event of the re-vamped ProElite’s third offering. Grove is already 1-0 under the promotion’s banner since being released by the UFC and will return to the friendly confines of the Neil Blaisdell Center in his home State of Hawaii for the bout with “Minowaman”.
Grove Wins Big in Front of Fellow Hawaiians
News of the January 21 match-up was first reported by MMAFighting.
The 13-9 Grove struggled to find his footing in the UFC after notching success in back-to-back battles immediately on the heels of his TUF 3 win, going 4-6 in the following ten tussles including two victories by way of Split Decision. However, the 28-year old looked as sharp as he had in years against veteran Joe Riggs in August at ProElite’s inaugural event where he tapped out “Diesel” in less than a minute.
Minowa, who is said to have signed an exclusive North American deal with ProElite, will enter the cage on a four-fight winning streak and an enormous advantage in the experience department with an overall record of 51-32-8. Also worth mentioning is the fact the legendary competitor has submitted 35 of the opponents he’s beaten and found success against larger opponents such as Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Gilbert Yvel.
ProElite 3 also expected to feature undefeated Olympic wrestler Sara McMann in action as well as the second round of the organization’s ongoing Heavyweight Grand Prix.
