SHARE THE PROFITS - VIA ANNUAL SPECIAL DIVIDENDs
I have stated that share buy backs are eroded by market action - lete alone the market makers and shorts
I have on several occasions suggested a special dividend to shareholder.
the special dividend can be a percentage of profits, ratio of insider bonuses, a flat special dividend, or a combination of all of the above.
AND, IF IT WERE AN ANNUAL SPECIAL DIVIDEND, it would generate more individual shareholder interest in buying and holding shares.
It would be an additional amount to institutional holders and funds holding IDCC shares.
AND THE BEST PART OF AN ANNUAL SPECIAL DIVIDEND, everyine holding shares would benefit -- from top executives, shareholders, fund holders, and employees of IDCC who hold shares, including directors, officers, engineers, back office help, and yes, even the maintenance employees.
Come on BoD and Executives and bosses, become creative and generate some long term buy and hold attitudes of IDCC shareholders.

mickeybritt: I don't think that the government is trying to 'PREVENT' the ditribution of drugs in the US.
Recently, my son jabbed a screwdriver bit just below his eyeball socket while using a cordless drill.
The emergency room gave him morphine because of the severe pain he was in. They also prescribed 'NORCO' for pain *limited quantity) and said he could also take over the counter pain killers once he used up his controlled pain killer substance.
They didn't say 'SORRY, WE CAN'T GIVE YOU PAIN MEDICATIONS BECAUSE THE GOVeRNMENT IS BANNING MORPHINE AND NORCO". Rather, they are tring to prevent excessive and abusive use of these narcotics.
It's the illegal drugs, bad drugs, and drug dealers that are killing people and not the government.
My philosophy is if you don't need a 'pain pill like Norco, then don't take it.
Its the sme for illegal guns. You don't need an automatic weapon to hunt; you don't need a bump stock to hunt; you don't meed a conventional 6-shooter to hunt.
How many children and adults have overdosed on drugs? How many children, adults, and law enforcement officials have been killed by these weapons? DSo we need these types of weapons to kill lions, tigers, dinosaurs, gorilla's, and other killer animals that roam the streets of Florida or Chicago?
Mick, we need our government to address thses issues in a sane, logical, and orderly fashion, so as to not defeat the good that may come out of drugs while protecting those who are 'recreational' users.

CTTC and InterDigital Expand Joint Research to Tackle 5G/Wi-Fi Spectrum Challenges
Barcelona-Based Research Institute and InterDigital to Develop Solutions for Spectrum Sharing in Unlicensed Millimetre Wave Bands
Company Release - 2/1/2019 4:00 AM ET
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC) and InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, have expanded their joint research efforts to advance the next generation of wireless technology. CTTC and InterDigital are developing solutions for 5G cellular technologies (including NR, MulteFire) and Wi-Fi/WiGig to cooperate effectively in millimetre wave unlicensed spectrum (NR-U for mmWave) for contribution to global standards efforts.
The new research project between CTTC and InterDigital will focus on NR and NR-U, and coexistence studies with Wi-Fi/WiGig, including technology development, system proof-of-concepts, and simulation work, among other areas. An important result of the work is the design and development of a 3GPP-compliant NR network simulator, with NR-U capabilities, designed as a pluggable module to ns-3, the network simulator popular in research and academia. ns-3 is important given that it offers multi-RAT (Radio Access Technologies) and multi-band simulation capabilities, including NR, Wi-Fi/WiGig, LTE (LTE-A, LAA, LTE-U) and other technologies.
“While 5G wireless technology is just beginning to launch in 2019, our work with InterDigital aims to deliver an enhanced mobile broadband experience that will enable 5G wireless to reach its full potential upon mass rollout over the next three to five years," said Lorenza Giupponi, Senior Researcher and Director of Institutional Relations, CTTC. “We are working towards making standalone cellular in unlicensed mmWave a reality, which will pave the way for new verticals like Industry 4.0, among others.”
In terms of standards contributions, CTTC and InterDigital are developing Beyond 5G extensions to the 3GPP NR standard that build on the existing Release 16 3GPP Work Item by extending NR-U to mmWave unlicensed spectrum (NR-U for mmWave). NR, the global standard being driven by 3GPP for a new 5G air interface, is a continuing part of the mobile broadband evolution to deliver on the requirements of 5G. According to 3GPP’s standardization timeline, Release 16 will submit an initial full 5G system by early 2020. In December 2018, 3GPP successfully concluded a Study Item, and has recently committed to a Work Item on NR-U. Researchers at both CTTC and InterDigital have evaluated and publicized work that highlights the performance and capabilities of advancing NR-U into millimetre wave spectrum.
“This expanded project highlights InterDigital’s role as an important, trusted research partner, and underscores our specific focus on testbeds and capabilities that are a fit for academic research and multi-party consortia,” said Doug Castor, Senior Director, InterDigital Labs. “The interoperability of various wireless technologies in unlicensed spectrum is a key area of research, and one where the combined abilities of CTTC and InterDigital can make a huge impact.”
The expanded research project builds on an already strong collaboration. InterDigital and CTTC have been working together on 5G development since 2017, and have an established history and highly-respected research relationship that stems from consortium collaborations, such as in European H2020 5G-Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects.

Qualcomm revenue forecast meets estimates, signs contract with Huawei
Reuters
Reuters January 30, 2019
Qualcomm Inc forecast current-quarter revenue that met analysts' expectations and said it had negotiated a new interim contract with Huawei Technologies that added to revenue in the quarter, sending its shares up 4 percent after the bell.
The new interim contract with Huawei means the only big dispute Qualcomm has with a customer now is with Apple, after it resolved its disputes with Samsung Electronics last year.
Qualcomm's forecast comes as a relief to investors after a bunch of other chipmakers, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, Samsung and Intel Corp, delivered lower-than-expected sales forecasts this month, citing economic weakness in China.
Modem chip shipments fell 21.5 percent to 186 million, but were better than analysts estimate of 185.4 million, according to FactSet.
Qualcomm said it expects current-quarter revenue to be between $4.4 billion and $5.2 billion, meeting analysts' estimate of $4.80 billion at the midpoint, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.
Net income attributable to Qualcomm was $1.07 billion, or 87 cents per share, for the first quarter ended Dec. 30, compared with a loss of $5.98 billion, or $4.05 per share, a year earlier when it took a $6 billion tax charge.
Excluding items, the company earned $1.20 per share.
Revenue fell 20 percent to $4.84 billion, slightly missing the analyst average estimate of $4.90 billion.

5G Expectations Still Evolving With a Global Twist
What makes 5G different from all other Gs? After efforts to develop specifications, technology and research, the industry has an initial view of how the next generation of 5G services will look. What’s still unknown, is just how great will be 5G’s global impact. According to a recent Heavy Reading Operator Survey, there are striking differences between the U.S. and Rest-of-World (RoW) when it comes to 5G expectations. A majority (52%) of U.S. respondents believe that “faster end-user speeds” will be the biggest benefit over the next five years, while 41% of RoW respondents identified “new services and eco-system expansion” as being the primary commercial benefit over the same timeframe.

I hope Merritt's comment
Bill Merritt said the increase in the buyback was because they are really really bullish that the combination with Technicolor assets acquired will drive a significant increase in value as they integrate it
Monterey2000: Management has its priorities:
1. Bonuses and compensation for insiders
2. Increases in benefits to insiders
3. Share buy backs so they do not have to give up any cash
Only once did the company declare a special dividend, and that was when tax laws were changing.
All of the buy backs have generated some 'gains' in the share price, only to be eroded by either the market conditions, market makers, or insiders failing to monetize its patents.
I have suggested special dividends as a means of providing REAL MONEY to shareholders. It ALSO would provide monetary benefits to insiders who hold shares as a sign of their loyalty and belief in the company.
Maybe Jacobs (Qualcomm's hot shot) would possibly consider buying IDCC, as he has commented that he would like to take Qualcomm private.
Certainly, other companies (Apple, Google, Qualcomm, Samsung, and others in the telecom/chip industry) would see great opportunities by acquiring IDCC.
IF there were an insider buyout, I would hope it would be in the $95 or better range and perhaps as high as $110 or better.
JMHO
Typically, the premium would be VERY minimal (maybe $5.00 from THESE insiders.
Remember, the all time high was $102+ and the prospects MIGHT BE tremendous if the company can follow through on 5-G, sensors, et al.
IMO, the company should look to a new wtrategic alternative by putting the company up for sale and sww what it brings.
Why Is InterDigital (IDCC) Up 1.6% Since Last Earnings Report?
Zacks ZacksDecember 1, 2018
It has been about a month since the last earnings report for InterDigital (IDCC). Shares have added about 1.6% in that time frame, outperforming the S&P 500.
Will the recent positive trend continue leading up to its next earnings release, or is InterDigital due for a pullback? Before we dive into how investors and analysts have reacted as of late, let's take a quick look at the most recent earnings report in order to get a better handle on the important catalysts.
InterDigital Beats Q3 Earnings & Revenue Estimates
InterDigital kept its earnings steak alive in the third quarter of 2018 as well, comfortably beating both the top and bottom-line estimates.
GAAP earnings for the quarter came in at 60 cents per share (under the revenue recognition standard "ASC 606"), which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 21 cents. Notably, the bottom-line figure for the year-ago quarter was $1.00 per share (under the revenue recognition standard, "ASC 605").
Inside the Headlines
In the reported quarter, the company’s revenues totaled $75.1 million, down 22.8% year over year. However, the reported figure surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $72 million. The year-over-year decline was due to adoption of a new revenue recognition standard (ASC 606) that impacted its revenue recognition from certain of its fixed-fee and per-unit license agreements.
While revenues from patent royalties came in at $74 million, the same from current technology solutions totaled $1 million.
The company’s operating expenses came in at $62.2 million, reflecting an increase of 10.1% year over year. Notably, adoption of ASC 606 did not have any impact on operating expenses in the reported quarter.
Selling and administrative expenses, as a percentage of total operating expenses, were 20.6% compared with 22.3% in the year-ago quarter.
Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
As of Sep 30, 2018, InterDigital’s cash & short-term investments were $1,058.4 million with total long-term debt and other long-term liabilities aggregating $344 million.
For the first nine months of 2018, net cash provided by operating activities was $176.6 million compared with $98.3 million in the prior-year period.
Technicolor Integration on Track
In July, InterDigital completed the buyout of the patent licensing business of Technicolor, a global technology leader in the media and entertainment sector. The company is on track in integrating the patent portfolio as well as the team of Technicolor employees in its fold. The deal is expected to provide InterDigital with an enhanced portfolio of video technologies while opening up new opportunities in the consumer electronics market. The company expects the Technicolor video coding assets to eventually add about 10% to the revenue base of its core terminal unit licensing business.
How Have Estimates Been Moving Since Then?
Fresh estimates followed a downward path over the past two months. The consensus estimate has shifted -16.31% due to these changes.
VGM Scores
At this time, InterDigital has an average Growth Score of C, however its Momentum Score is doing a lot better with an A. Charting a somewhat similar path, the stock was allocated a grade of B on the value side, putting it in the second quintile for this investment strategy.
Overall, the stock has an aggregate VGM Score of B. If you aren't focused on one strategy, this score is the one you should be interested in.
Outlook
InterDigital has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). We expect an in-line return from the stock in the next few months.

InterDigital Advances Cloud Native Deployment for Future 5G Wireless Service Delivery
GlobeNewswire•November 21, 2018
Combines 3GPP Enhanced Service-Based Architecture with ETSI NFV Lifecycle Management System to Orchestrate and Deliver Control Plane Services as HTTP-Based Web Services
WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the recent Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Industry Conference and Exhibition, InterDigital, Inc. (IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, validated a fundamental building block for operators to deliver future 5G wireless services. InterDigital demonstrated a new service framework that will enable operators to move to a cloud-native deployment of mobile networks while allowing for vertical, industrial use cases to be realized as pure cloud-based applications.
The advanced framework, developed as part of the upcoming 3GPP Release 16 specifications, can efficiently route control plane service requests to connected terminals and end users across a virtualized network environment. The company showcased how virtual user terminals, representing mobile phones or other smart devices, could attach to a 5G network, request a brief session with three different 5G services and then detach again. The demo was significant in verifying the efficacy of the 3GPP enhanced service- based architecture (eSBA) in combination with the ETSI NFV lifecycle management system to realize the vision of mobile network operators worldwide.
“This powerful combination of virtualization management and ‘service framework’ is essential to realizing the promise and full potential of 5G service delivery,” said Dirk Trossen, Senior Principal Engineer, InterDigital Europe. “Operators are eager to speed up and simplify orchestrated service delivery across a software-defined, virtualized network infrastructure. We were able to show how the system can apply an orchestration template across various regional data centers, as well as create or terminate service instances instantly. This is important for future consumer and industrial terminals, or devices, to deliver the next wave of 5G connected experiences.”
InterDigital presented this innovative platform as part of the work in the NGMN Service-Based Architecture (SBA) working group and encourages NGMN members to test it for their own trials of both control plane services as well as evolving user plane services which are not yet defined by current 3GPP standards. The world’s first trials showing the benefits of such user plane realization will be in December 2018 as part of the UK-funded 5G Smart Tourism and the EU-funded FLAME projects, demonstrating significant bandwidth savings for virtual reality and similar media-rich use cases.

dws: I'm still here because of several reasons:
1. In at $5.61 average
2. Long term holder from 1990's
3. Don't want to sell and pay gains taxes
4. don't need the money as other investments provide great cash flows.
5 Hoping that SOME DAY, someone will buy company via stock swap and will be able to monetize this company for what the engineers can andf have done.
6 If me and my wife die, kids will have a new cost basis on date of our death and they will not have to pay taxes (or at least taxes on higher cost basis -- ie: $70's instead of $5.61)
Good enough reasons ? ? ?
Nothing happens to the share price because IDCC management and Best In Class Sales team cannot monetize and license the patent !

InterDigital and 5G-CORAL Consortium Complete Their First Trial of Integrated Fog and Edge Virtualized Radio Access Network
Demos in Taipei Shopping Mall Feature Multi-Tier Fog and Edge Equipment and Flexible Deployment to Power AR/VR, Robotics, and other 5G Use Cases; Trial Paves Way for More Flexible, Cost-Effective and Accessible Network Topology
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Nov. 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, and other members of the 5G-CORAL consortium recently conducted their first 5G trial at Global Mall Nangang Station Store in Taipei, Taiwan. The trial was significant in demonstrating how 5G can effectively work across a modern end-to-end network deployment -- from the cloud down to the extreme network edge -- to advance the next generation of connected services.
Members of the 5G-CORAL consortium, including ADLINK, AZCOM, Ericsson, InterDigital, ITRI, NCTU, RISE, Telecom Italia, and UC3M, participated in the trial. Together, they showcased how a distributed and virtualized computing hierarchy can be relatively simply deployed using dense low-cost fog nodes at the extreme edge of the network (in the mall) connected to a sophisticated remote data center approximately 100 km away in Hsinchu City.
The trial demonstrated several applications such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and edge cloud robotics delivered in a real-world environment over the 5G-CORAL integrated fog and edge virtualized radio access network solution. The series of demos exhibited how 5G can effectively work across multiple tiers of virtualized and distributed computing.
“5G is about more than just radio and speed,” said Alain Mourad, Director, InterDigital Europe. “It’s also about cost savings and flexible deployment to bring ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency services into as many applications as possible. That may be its most important contribution, long-term. We’re excited about the potential of fog and edge computing along with 5G to create smarter wireless solutions and enable new services – some even yet to be imagined. By distributing more intelligence to the fog and edge, this 5G-CORAL trial is charting a course towards micro-services-based networks that can optimize for specific use cases and local environments such as the mall.” View a video of Alain Mourad introducing the 5G-CORAL trial.
The keys to the demo: low cost and ease of deployment. The 5G-CORAL trial employed low-cost fog and edge nodes in the mall that were easily deployed and automatically controlled along with their interaction with the remote high-cost data center. The low cost of the nodes – some under $500 – contrasts with current network architectures requiring multi-million-dollar data centers and complex deployment and management.
Participants and passersby at the mall were able to view the following demonstrations:
