Speaking of havarti cheese, I thought you all would like to see a self-portrait I made with my new digital.
Tuna melt with mild cheddar, on rye. Yum. Havarti is good on a tuna melt, too.
Oh you got a little burn? Here, let's put some Land-O-Lakes on it, then NO OXYGEN WHATSOEVER can get to it. And boy, will that stuff evermore hold the heat in.
OK, I'm bookmarking your message and tonight I'll find the link and PM it to you.
That first few seconds is some pretty agnozing pain, no?
Until the poor little nerves begin to die.
Lucky, indeed. I recently burned the fingers on my left hand, 2nd degree burns, and I immediately plunged my hand into cool water while my daughter googled first aid for burns.
She told me that if blisters formed immediately (which they did), I had 2nd degree and I needed to go to the ER. So I proceeded to the local ER, where they immediately began treatment.
The web site had said wrap the burned area in a wet cloth on the way to the ER, which I did, and I held my hand out the window all the way to the hospital, and the cool breeze blowing through the wet cloth felt wonderful. But it may have had some effect on how quickly I healed.
Luckily, I've had very little pain associated with this entire event. The new pink skin is growing nicely and it should be all over and done with by the end of the week.
I went to my regular Doc for a follow-up a few days later, he said to me, "You know, even when you have bad luck, you're lucky." LOL, that's true. I have holes in all the knees of my pants from being down on them thanking God for how much he loves me and how well he takes care of this brain-dead person.
What's the quick-n-dirty on the plot... Vanity Fair?
You're never too old for a little skydiving....
BREMERTON, Wash. - A 96-year-old man aiming to become the oldest person to make a solo skydive had a rough landing near here and suffered a dislocated shoulder, but otherwise emerged unscathed.
Milburn Hart of Seattle jumped out of a plane Friday afternoon near the Bremerton airport.
"He said his arm hurt on the way out the door, so he had a little problem turning," said Dina Fodd of Blue Skies Adventures Skydiving.
Hart, who lives at the North Haven Retirement Center in North Seattle, prepared for the jump with five hours of training and a written test Friday. He'd made two jumps in tandem with an experienced jumper last year.
His entourage included six friends from the retirement center and, from Elma, daughter Diane Hamilton, her husband Dave and their daughter, who angrily refused to watch her grandfather's risky venture.
You did better than we did. We just ejected it half way through and wrote it off to another one of my dumb movie picks.
But I wiped out all my "dumb-boys" when I rented The Notebook LOL.
I got bit last year (Feb I think) and it just about scared me to death when I saw pics of what the bite could turn into.
Fortunately, my wife found (using Google) a doctor in South Texas that specializes in Brown Recluse bites. Through his advice, I obtained a prescription for nitroglycerine patches and applied them according to his directions. The effects of the necrosis (dying flesh) stopped almost immediately and the area effected began to get smaller within 10 days of beginning his treatment.
His theory is that the poison from the bite causes the blood vessels to contract, shutting off the blood supply to the tissue nearby, therefore causing it to die. The nitro causes the blood vessels to expand, which in turn keeps the tissue alive despite the presence of the toxin and your body then begins to heal itself.
Worked for me. My bite was completely gone within 4 weeks and it didn't even leave a scar.
I have kept this wonderful Doctor's name, address, and phone numbers through all these months. If you ever run in to someone with a Brown Recluse bite, send me a PM and I'll shoot you his info. He also has a lot of good advice for avoiding Brown Recluse spiders.
I'm at work or I would put up a link to his website. Right now I can't even think of his name.
PRAGUE, Czech Republic - A 51-year-old woman has been hospitalized in the Czech Republic after eating a chicken her son seasoned with marijuana, the news agency CTK reported Monday.
The news agency said the woman from Ostrava, 218 miles east of Prague, was aware of the unusual seasoning, but fell ill after eating the dinner last week and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Her 20-year-old son has been charged with illegal possession and production of drugs and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
-----------------------------
And now........ the rest of the story.
She only became ill after eating an entire 2 pound box of Oreo cookies with a ½ gallon of milk after supper.
Yep, the Brown Recluse spider. And trust me, I hanven't forgotten that little episode either.
Homeowner tip: My spouse went down to the basement this morning and reported that the dehumidifier was covered with ice! She promptly unplugged it & I Googled the problem.
Turns out the dehumidifiers are not meant to operate below about 65 degrees, unless you spend big bucks to get a special low-temp "basement" dehumidifier.
It was bitter cold last night, and although the basement stays fairly warm, it was only about 50 degrees down there this morning.
So if you have a dehumidifier in your basement, turn it off if it's going to be below 65 down there. Continuious running while frozen over can burn out the compressor.
Love to all,
Bob Vila.
Hey, you're right, they do look alike!
Thanks for that bb, I was wanting a good movie to go to maybe Sunday night, that sounds like just the ticket, no pun intended.
We're going to be doing a full-court press finishing up on the re-modeling of a bathroom and a bedroom this weekend. My wife has done most of heavy lifting because I burned one of my hands real bad a week ago, but that doesn't stop me from using a battery-powered screwdriver or a paint roller, LOL. Today she hung a door, drilled the holes for the lockset and the latch, and that sucker looks better than if it had been done by a pro.
So Sunday night I'd like to flop down in a theatre and watch a good movie, something to kind of cap the busy weekend off with a little entertainment and relaxation.
If we're too pooped to go out to a movie, I'll rent one. But I'm seeing a movie, one way or the other, Sunday night.
Has everyone seen The Notebook? If not, do yourself a favor and go rent it. Better yet, if you can find it for $12 or $15, buy it, because you'll want to watch it again. My worthless opinion, of course.
Leslie Ann Warren as she is today, talking with a Market Maker.
That's me, the eternal sunshine of a mindless spot.
As Teri Hatcher's mother?!!? LOL, I AM getting old! I remember Ms. Warren when she was a young hottie.
Neither my wife nor I can hear very well anymore, therefore we just leave closed-captioning on all the time. Sure helps when watching movies with wierd soundtracks.
Oh, funny story about this: I can't see the CC without my glasses on, and one day we were watching something on TV and my glasses were across the room. My wife looked at me and said, "What did he just say?" and I replied, "I don't know, I couldn't see it".
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - An environmental protester facing indecent exposure charges arrived at Auckland's District Court naked — but dressed before he entered the courtroom Thursday.
Computer technician Simon Oosterman, 24, was charged during the Auckland Naked Bike Ride last Sunday, an event he organized to protest society's dependence on the car.
When Oosterman was stopped by police during the naked bike ride, other protest riders covered the lower parts of their bodies to avoid arrest.
Oosterman and three supporters — two men and a woman — stood outside the courthouse naked on Thursday holding a banner reading: "Stop indecent exposure to vehicle emissions."
He then went inside and headed up the escalator, still naked, toward the courtroom.
But he donned his clothes before entering court, where he pleaded not guilty and was released to reappear on March 21.
Outside court Oosterman said he would fight the charge as public +nudity+ was "different from indecent exposure."
"The purpose of the protest was to draw attention to the issue of transport emissions," he said.
"There has to be a distinction between people flashing (nude bodies at) young girls and public +nudity+, which is benign," he added.
Oosterman said he decided to dress before entering the court room because he didn't want to risk being charged with contempt of court.
A senior sergeant of police who saw the defendant travel naked up the escalator "told me he was grateful I got dressed at the top," Oosterman said.
FROM THE YAHOO NEWS WEBSITE
That POS is on my "Never Buy" list. So you can expect it to be around $7.50 pps before Easter.
NO, WAIT! Just one more. I know it's not politically correct, but this one made me laugh my arse off.
OK, last one, I don't want anyone here having nightmares.
I'm sure this is a big seller on eBay. (If you don't remember Tiny Tim, don't worry, no one else does either.)
I ran across a web site of "Worst Album Covers Ever" and this is my personal favorite.
I'll post another one in a few minutes... give your eyes a chance to stop bleeding.
Good idea. "Hey, I'm going to the can."
*drags out Blackberry*
No, not hardly. I shot myself in the foot with ALTI.
I'm sure that there are people that use that service and are perfectly happy with it. I'm too much of a type A to sit still for that kind of trading.
Although if my boss catches me trading at work one more time, I may have to sign up there, LOL. Buy 500 shares of Citigroup and roll the dividends.
Nice charts, thank you for going to the effort to post them. There's some awfully interesting food for thought and stocks to watch tomorrow.
Again, thanks.
Here is their list of top 10 holdings.... SAY WHAT?
LU Lucent Technologies
SIRI Sirius Satellite Radio
LFP Lifepoint Inc.
HEC Harken Energy Corporation
NT Nortel Networks
CSCO Cisco Systems Inc.
SUNW Sun Microsystems Inc.
JDSU JDS Uniphase Corporation
MSFT Microsoft Corp.
DIS Walt Disney Holding Co.
I wouldn't buy Lucent, Sirius, Nortel, or Sun if they were the last stocks on earth!!!! And Cisco only if I were half drunk. As for JDS Uniphase, been there, done that, made money, lit fuse, ran away.
Maybe it's a list of the top 10 they want to pump this month.
AND TWO FREE TRADES ARE INCLUDED (unless you want limit orders, which are $15.95 each). Hey, let's just place market orders. Who cares how much we pay, it's Sun Microsystems, for God's sake! And it's free!
OT "..home of the fighting Florida strain micropterus salmoides"
I had to go look this up, thinking I would find some little creepy-crawly little salmonella-like microbe that infests the cracks of your skin, or some such other evil fungus. LOL.
Around here they're called big-mouth bass, because in our mountain rivers the small-mouth is also very common. I grew up in Oklahoma, where they were most commonly called black bass, or wide-mouth bass.
I thought they were the most fun fish in the world to catch, but the first time I got hold of a 2½ pound small mouth after I moved to East Tennessee, I found its equal.
What is the first thing you look for when you dig into a company's financial statements? I'm always looking for the relationship between cash and long term debt, but what else is important enough to make you go straight to it?
Thank you, thank you. With your permission, I'd like to copy and paste your last paragraph & the email it to my granddaughters, the family leaders in the anysoldier.com effort.
I was NOT aware that Dell had moved their cs effort to India. That is scary as hell. The last time I had to call Dell tech support I got a knowledgable, helpful lady that sounded like she was from Nashville & she solved my problem in less than 15 minutes.
But that was quite a while ago. Mostly the Dells on the network (Optiplex) have been bullet-proof. With laptops, I've had great success with IBM Thnkpads, but we all know where that went a couple of months ago. *sigh* What's an MIS guy to do?
That's one of the most amazing pictures I've ever seen.
RE: Anysoldier.com My two teenage granddaughters (13 and 12) mailed over 500 letters and sent 53 packages in December. I've gotten the bug, too, and I'm writing & mailing a couple of letters a day.
I've got this big push on for everyone that can possibly do it to go to that website, get an address, and send a piece of mail on March 4th, as kind of a show of solidarity.
Mostly I'm making shopping trips to Target with my granddaughters. I need to get more agressive in my trading, they're bleeding me dry, LOL.
Satire, and pretty good satire at that.
Imagine that, a day when XOM is down. Haven't been many of those lately. I read somewhere (here?) that its market cap will soon exceed that of General Electric.
I remember being the first kid on my block with a fallout shelter. At first I thought Mon and Dad were putting in a swimming pool.
I, too, remember the early 60's as being much more relaxed, laid back, easy to live with. But memory plays tricks on the elderly, and besides I was white and upper middle class. Not everyone had the advantages I took so easliy for granted.
But I wound up in Southeast Asia in 1967, where my fantasy reality came to a crashing conclusion.
I'm sorry to hear that. I've had nothing but good luck with them, but I'll remember what you said when/if I have a sour experience.
Who are you buying from now? I still have quite the collect of IBM Netvistas that have been pretty solid. After HP dumped Carly last week, maybe Compaq will become a source for business computers again. Maybe they will even "de-merge".
Beware the dreaded head fake.
