mundo, seriously, what is so complicated about her version of ETS where they need to fly out for training?
I have ETS as well, and I find it easy to enable the TPM and swipe fingerprints, etc. I am generally curious as to whether she is training others? An inter-company trainer to show others? I honestly don't get it.
And WHO is doing the training to train her (and others I suppose)? Is this Wave? Is it Dell? HP? a Fredericks dude?
How many people in the training? Who's getting ETS besides her?

Wave's tools don't "zip the drive from a remote location" either.
awk,
Do you really think an enterprise will not want their PCs protected from "just somebody" frying the drive?
So you're saying not a single IT person will view their existing tools/firewall/tokens/VPN etc to be adequate and will instead unanimously adopt the use of the TPM?
Snackman, please delete MDT and your post, and my two responses for flagrant misinformation. Thank you.
mdt, McAfee is not working with Wave based on this PR. Reread it. EOM
CTS,
I was thinking more along the lines of
Revenue: 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 18 Cash flow shortfall: - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 = -10
Still losing money, but making strong progress, enough progress to stop the share price from sinking.
3M to 4M is a 35% increase.
4M to 5M is a 25% increase.
5M to 6M is a 20% increase.
To me, that looks like declining progress, which is not considered progress at all.
Case in point, SKS better get his act together because if you people think this is an example of progress, you are mistaken!
Regardless of what you think, Lenovo could have built a Lenovo only solution to support all this, or parts of it (enough of it), to warrant not licensing ETS. Just because ETS makes the most sense, doesn't make anyone use ETS. This has been the historical fact for a decade. I am waiting to see what happens and will believe it when I see Lenovo shipping ETS standard (not an option) on all their business level notebooks. Until then, this demo is just another demo because the demo doesn't lead to any additional sales.
I clearly stated ETS seems to have the most support for multi-solution multi-platform (MSMP, hmm maybe a new acronym for an acronym-starved industry) and as more Ps and Ss enter the marketplace, Wave tools come out making more and more sense. But we're not there yet with only 15% market share.
And we know Wave can't afford the time, or money, to handle sales individually. This is the problem. SKS was either handcuffed by Dell for a year, or he made a stupid bet, but Wave doesn't have the resources. Same today. Bundling is the way until demand is enough and sales cycle is short enough for Wave to break free from bundling and sell individually for higher revenue dollars.
Awk, The question is whether they developed this themselves much like HP does, or if they will start to leverage a solution like Wave that will likely offer more tools for FDE drives from Seagate, Hitachi and other TPM/biometrics. I don't think Wave has a solution set to offer Lenovo as robust as the solution set up for Dell. It will be interesting to see. SKS did make the comment he hoped the iTPM will help secure more OEMs. We know Lenovo did an "optional" support after-market upgrade relationship with Wave (which resulted in little to zero sales based on the upgrade numbers, so we can't really trust SKS' comments on that anyway). So we will have to see. But now we are seeing another interesting technology that will hopefully leverage the TPM to facilitate a demand for TPM activations.
it is a shame this comes at a time when Wave struggles in the market place needing money and providing extensive services for free for the Olympics. I hope mgt. has this figured out better than they have in the past. Could be a great investment if they figure out the short term. And that has always been the reservation of many.
CC commentary:
I just returned from France for two weeks and have been ignoring the board for a good while, but I decided to listen to the CC. I haven't listened to one in a while.
I am surprised to say I think Wave is actually finally making traction. I know its been forever, and will admit my renewed optimism comes in part from not being over-invested and also walking away and "letting the grass grow" without me watching it.
Steven clearly stated several things that stuck in my mind on two fronts: Wave and WaveXpress. I agree with his statements.
Regarding WaveXpress, he stated several things relating to the quality of the product as well as earning the respect of the media industry. the best thing that could have happened to WaveXpress and TVTonic was to land a prominent account that others will see to demonstrate the validity and prowess of your product. I can't think of a better showcase than the Olympics.
It doesn't matter if there are only 30k users or 3. What matters is that WaveXpress can now preach a very strong message they have the best stuff and it is not just marginally better, it is significantly better. I hope they are using this to move the technology forward with new partners that can showcase this capability and leverage it to do much much more.
Regarding Wave, Steven mentioned several things as well in relation to new products and marketing that will eventually land new OEM business. As Wave's product grows and demand forms behind it, the space WILL accelerate. His commentary about difficulty in setting up sales for small pilot accounts is a necessary evil. It takes time, but Wave now has customers reordering and according to SKS, the pipeline is starting to grow significantly.
Intel/Dell/STX products are expanding and getting more robust. Excuses are being terminated. Use of the TPM will demonstrate additional benefits to those that employ them. I am happy to hear about progress coming soon in all three relationships that will certainly affect Wave's bottom line.
ne can argue the length of time it has taken and the problems Wave has faced. Lets face it, Wave cannot possibly educate the world as a 130 person company, but the world is starting to get it. With each new customer and prospect, word spreads and sales get easier. There are so many big fishes in the background like the government, etc, that can help move this rock significantly forward. What's interesting is Wave is gaining traction without any of these big fish being caught.
I have lived a life of sales and I can attest to the fact that if SKS is telling the truth (okay, that's an if, but I believe he is), the adoption cycle of this technology is getting eerily close to being an after-thought. For the first time, I felt a hurried sense on SKS's part to get this call over with and get back to business at hand. Things are rolling, Wave is working it hard, and sales are coming in. Its a slow start, but it moves faster each day.
I look forward to what Wave will accomplish over the next 6 months.
My God man...get a grip on yourself...
Thank the Lord the govt. hasn't issued a mandate or anything.
Its called FREEDOM
The last thing I want is the idiots at the ivory tower telling me what computer to buy, what software to buy and how to install and run it.
You think it will stop there? Pretty soon they will tell me what hour of the day I can use the toilet.
In the hands of a company that can actually market, push and get WaveXpress utilized, it would be a handy tool.
MSFT could push software updates to users automatically. Users click to install, instead of click to download and install. Many PCs are still dial up. This is a great opportunity for them to get updates, critical updates to address security, etc.
NBC or TimeWarner as well for content. There are many applications that are useful, and as the bandwidth increases, so will the content amount and size of files.
For example, 5 years ago, the PC processor was "sufficient" to run applications. But applications get more robust, more and more code. Therefore the PC processer has to get faster, more memory, better graphics, etc. Many programs span a CD and multiple CDs are required. Patches and ServicePacks get larger. The need for more bandwith just may continue to outpace the available bandwidth for many years, even decades as more stuff is online.
I think they can find a buyer. In the hands of the right company, WXP can be a great asset. But in the hands of Wave, WXP is useless.

countryboy, I have enjoyed your posts. You rarely post opinion. Wondering where your logic is directing you from. My question: why would MSFT pay for TVTonic when, like now on nbc, they are getting TVTonic for free?
"if it achieved ..."
There's that pesky "if" again.
"The other "visible fact" is that S. Sprague has projected a 40-50 million valuation to TVTonic. "
Are you serious? You say a "fact" is SKS' "opinion"?
Not to mention SKS' opinion has been way way way off for a decade.
zen, when arriving at "B" from "A", if "A" is not correct, your conclusion, "B", will never be correct.
"SKS is predicting..."
LOL. Yours is the funniest post I've read in a long time. Sorry to bring it up, but I almost spit up my lunch reading that. Have we not learned from years and years and hundreds of SKS half-truthed misconceptions?
Every year a certain group of posters continue to claim there is some technology, or some "thing" that will produce sales and revenues for Wave. The announcements are many:
MSFT Server 2008 announcement
NSCB announcement
TVTonic and NBC
Seagate FDE
Seagate FDE NIST Certification
NTT Data
What Wave needs to do is two things:
1) Focus on the Dell road show, and start up their core business, TPM/ETS/FDE upgrades. Exploit the need for security and ramp up sales now!
2) Leverage the Dell road show to land more tier-1 OEMs to bundle and increase their bundling license fees, landing more marketing, and road shows, to increase market penetration.
90% of Wave's revenues come from ETS upgrades and bundling fees. As a result, you invest in what makes you money.
Barge and his close-following can continue to post about consumer side stuff, but there is nothing that will support any meaningful revenues from consumers for at least another 18-24 months. I, and others, have been saying that for years. Why certain people just don't understand this very visible fact is beyond me.
Wave will NEVER be perceived as a real company until they hit B/E.
Well, I don't necessarily consider myself negative on wave or "looking at the glass as half empty..."
in case you hadn't noticed, it HAS been half empty.
we've seen lots of news before. I hope this time news leads to the promised land.
lots of great media coverage for WXP...
Snackman, you can post as much positive opinion as you want. You have for years, and that's all it is, opinion.
the facts: wave needs money to survive. everything the company does has to either make them money, or position themselves to do so in the very near future.
we shall see if wave management can, finally, effectively convince the gorillas like MSFT and NBC that wave is crucial to their success and needs to also make money from this deal, and any deal in the future. I am happy to see a doubling in dell revenue. unfortunately, it was late in coming.
I am hopeful of this new relationship to, if anything, get the WXP monkey off our backs. that's about all i think it is, though. Regardless of the exposure, wave needs money now.
...and with that, I think i've said what I want to say for a while. have a good week.
Yes, I agree, and WXP is really a perfect medium to deliver this to N America, and even to Europe. I hope this is the case for anyone that downloads TVTonic and signs up for the service. I'm sure it will be.
Yes, and as much as this board doesn't want to admit it, that statement could mean a greater strain on Wave's side of the money funding to get this project rolling if Wave is footing the bill for WXP for the time-being.
I hope that is not the case - as we are well aware of the Spragues viewpoint on money regarding Wave's, WXP's and their own personal wealth. They all seem to blend and is unacceptable.
As good as the exposure will be for WXP, please keep in mind TVTonic is still an advertisement-based business model, and those business models are doomed to fail without real business behind it, or significant demand for the service.
Are you sure about this? WXP would likely need to invest in a more robust set of hardware to support the demand and do a lot of work to set it up special for NBC. Not being paid until after the fact, and only on ad-based revenues seems very thoughtless of the Spragues. There should have been an upfront fee to do this deal. There HAS to be.
This also doesn't seem to help Wave in any way. If there is no money attached, any money would be during or after the Olympic games.
TVTonic news: I am interested to learn more. How is it marketed? Will non-Media Center users be able to use it?
Will NBC still be paying WXP for this service? The first two words of the news release are:
Free Service
I think that's necessary for the END-USER, but did the Spragues give it away on the hopes of more eyes and advertisement revenue?
This *could* have a big impact on how many TVTonic users there are, and TVTonic will need to follow it up with more than "Cartoon Cow".
I hope to see a Television commercial on this, or a dozen of them!
interesting first link, jkirk. A television with a hdd hooked to an internet connection. It would be interesting if this tv had a basic, very minimal, pc inside that could run an interface like tvtonic. With this you wouldn't need cable or satellite. Just set it up to download what you'd like to, and come home to new programming. In fact, the interface could be web based. tvtonic could allow the user to go online using a pc at work and set it up. Revisit tvt.Com when you want to update your preferences.
that's something wave SHOULD be working on. But are likely not.
BlitzDocs:
http://www.xeroxmortgageservices.com/solutionfaq.html
What is the BlitzDocs® Collaboration Suite?
BlitzDocs Collaboration Suite is the most widely-used solution for mortgage document collaboration and is rapidly becoming the benchmark for how the mortgage industry shares paperless documents. With BlitzDocs, mortgage lenders move from their current paper-intensive processes to a paperless process. BlitzDocs does not require you to change how you do business. Rather, it replaces the current paper loan folder with a collaborative electronic loan folder™ ("e-folder") that provides the immediate benefits of sharing and viewing information electronically over the web. All mortgage constituents then use the e-folder for electronic collaboration.
Xerox Mortgage Services:
http://www.xeroxmortgageservices.com/releases/blitzdocs70.html
This is on their home page and spells out Wave Systems.
Licensed through eSign Systems, a division of Wave Systems Corp., the electronic signature capabilities will help expand the BlitzDocs’ network of mortgage participants
Blitzdocs is being used by: Citi, HSBC, Primary Capital, UAMC, etc...
Blitzdocs providers include: Countrywide, Interfirst, Lydian, Radian, Thornburg, AIG, CreditSuisse, etc...
Actually, this is decent news. Should really expand the awareness of eSign.
Snackman, if that happens, I would be quite surprised. I don't see anyone paying 30-40 million for a 4 man outfit that hasn't made any money in 10 years.
Snackman, I don't think so. WXP historically has been "very low burn" according to SKS. If this is the case, how will 3/4 a year of WXP burn carry WAVX, the whole company? Your logic makes little sense.
That's like saying the kid's lemonade stand will pay for this year's mortgage payments. Don't think so.
Maybe I misunderstood.
internet, regarding your post and what you say about SKS' TVT presentation, I believe there is probable cause to expect SKS is speaking about valuation of Wave, with respect to WXP.
Until your post I thought they may want to sell WXP. Now it seems SKS is saying ESign is something that can be "valued". WXP cannot, at this time, because there is nothing showing a value or model to base a value from.
He could very well be saying the WXP model may soon be able to publically show a value, and this value should reflect in WAVX share price, and should (hopefully) go up.
This higher share price will make dilution less, but dilution will still occur.
SKS sell out Mikey Sprague? Say it ain't so daddy-o! ..and I don't think so.
kiwi, what are you talking about?
"Wavx absolutely did not in any way, shape or form have any contracts "upgraded"."
Yes they did. Are you telling this board:
1) Dell did not expand their contract with Wave?
2) Dell did not agree to pay larger licensing to Wave?
A simple answer, MSFT doesn't give a crapola about some piddly little article. TVTonic does and will take any opportunity to get a name out.
Escrow, PRs are an interesting issue. Wave cannot flatly "explain" what the PR means. It is unprofessional and makes Wave look desperate.
However, what I took away from Wave being added to the TCG promoter team and BOD was this:
Wave isn't going to disappear. The TCG would not add Wave to this status unless they all KNEW Wave wasn't going to disappear. Why would the collective TCG execs say, "hey, lets add Wave to the BOD and TCG promoter team, even though we know they are going to go bankrupt..."?
Are the TCG BOD and execs so unintelligent to escape this simple fact? How bad would that look if they invited Wave to this circle, and Wave went B/K?
This dispels any discussion of a buyout or private takeover of Wave for quite some time, imo. This is not a 100% guarantee, but I feel that these guys know something, and they know Wave is as safe a bet as ever to be sticking around a while.
just my $0.02, so take it for what its worth.
That was funny... but, it is more comforting to see WAVX trading at over a dollar, rather than back at the $0.70 level.
I don't know what's going on (lots of possibilities), but whatever it is, it is helping the share price and it is about time.
We are into June of 2008. The second half of 2008 should be interesting for security awareness and TCG-based products. At this point, Wave has 100+ million TPMs installed, and there is demand and marketing growing. From what I hear, Seagate and Dell are finally footing the bill for some tester laptops to get these drives sold. Wave isn't going it alone anymore. It's about time...
Nice to see all these having TPM 1.2
I would be interested to see if there will be a "consumer" ETS version bundled with Dell laptops, for a price. I hope SKS doesn't give away a "lite" version just because it is for consumers. He has to hit break even before the stuff is free.
NOTHING should be free until Wave can at the least stand on its own two feet.
I really dislike this statement:
"To date, there is no evidence the information has been misused, State Street said."
How do they know? did they call every person that was exposed and ask them if they were aware of any "funny business"? Do they know the thief and ask him/her if they did anything with it? A more appropriate statement would be:
"Since we haven't been notified of any lawsuits yet, we aren't aware of any misuse of the data."
Dory, so according to your reasoning, the stock will continue to go up, since there is no more supply, yes? Or do you think $140,000 amounted to all the demand out there?
waverider, please explain how my post to someone else, regardling a subject completely irrelevant to your conclusion, prompted you to assume I was upset about a 18% gain in WAVX today?
Could you please explain this logic considering there was a near 20% rise in the stock price with less than 0.25% of outstanding shares traded in volume?
That represents a whole $140,000 spend on WAVX, globally, today.
Excellent development (unless I missed something)...I didn't think Wave would be supported in China at all and China demanded the Sinosun TPM in all PCs - which Wave didn't support. An important question for the SHM.
Nice to see this from HP. Also nice to see the matrix. Although I am not a fan of matrices since they do not get into the "quality" of support for each of the "check boxes"...they do provide a quick overview of products to check out. Wave is prominently displayed as well as in the individual break downs for product functionality categories.
I wonder how many people download these PDFs and view them. That would be an interesting factoid.
So, I guess while mismanagement was securing partners: Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Seagate to name a few, this was mismanagement?
Let me rephrase that for you...
So, I guess while mismanagement was securing partners: Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Seagate at a revenue base too little to support even 25% of the company's expenses...to name a few, this was mismanagement?
Yes! What good are 10 times as many "partners" when said partnerships take advantage of wave and pay negligible revenues?
It amazes me how you only see half the story, the half you WANT to see.
ok, helpful is right, enough of this.
When someone claims 3+2=4, I will correct them. Stating the CEO has no concern for shareprice, or communication ... Because MAYBE the shareprice will be higher one day is not only wrong, it is foolish.
