My 15 year-old NEC 21-inch monitor died. It was a monster, but I loved that big screen. I'd like to get an LCD monitor to replace it (or perhaps more than one, if the price is right). I'm leaning towards a 19-inch, but they still seem awfully expensive. I could perhaps get two 17-inch displays for just a bit more.
Anyway, if anyone has a recommendation, I'd like to hear it.

Well, good luck to you. Been through some typhoons (at sea) in SE Asia. I try to stay as far away from that sort of thing as I can.
Jay
Bruce, do they really bother with tolls during an emergency?
Thanks. Didn't know that; it has not been a factor since I switched to the flash device.
Jay
Yes. Just just follow the prompt from Quicken.
Jay
Mary,
I see no one has replied with the obvious, so I will. I also use Quicken and have many years worth of data. The easiest way to move that data from one machine to another is to do a backup from within Quicken. The command is under –file- -backup-. You can backup to a bunch of floppies, if that is all you have, or you can backup to a zip drive or even a flash drive (I keep my regular backup on a flash drive). Once you have your backup files, open Quicken on the machine you wish to put your data and do a restore. The command is under –file- -restore backup file-. I recently did this from my old box to my new Terminator-isk machine. The process went smoothly. I am using Quicken 2002. I’ve seen no reason to upgrade.

Jay
Just a storm passing through. Bid back to .20. Someone must have put in a large market order?
Big jump there on LYLPE. Any news?
Hi Bruce,
I've been following this thread since last winter. I used your terminator information as the basis for building my own machine, which I put together this spring. Because of my schedule and the difficulty of transferring and configuring programs and data, this machine only recently became my primary computer.
C drive needs a defrag, but other than that, here are my results:
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=S3X7LWFEVPMSCHEE
I'm most pleased with this machine.
The only detail worth commenting on about my experience is the about the video card. Last winter, before I built this machine, I upgraded my old box by installing the recommended Jaton PCI video card. I installed this an ran it without a hitch, using the original agp card for one monitor and the new card for another. In order to efficiently use the slots on my new box, I went with the Jaton dual agp card. This installation was quite different and unless I've done something wrong (always a possibility), people should be aware of the differences. The operating system configures the two monitors on the agp card as a "single" monitor. This is no big deal if you have no experience with a multi-monitor setup, but it was different for me after running for several months with the previous dual setup.
What is different? For one thing, some programs automatically expand to fit both monitors. This is easy to deal with, but it is not the way I would configure the screens. Also, warnings and error messages that ordinarily open in the center of your screen now open "split" --half on one screen and half on the other. None of this is any more than a pain in the ass, and would not stop me from ordering this same card, but it is something to be aware of as far as differences between agp and pci dual monitor cards.
Anyway, your instructions on this thread were a great help to me in building this box. Thanks much.

There are three kinds of people in this world: those who can count and those who can't.
A laptop computer can be useful in the classroom for taking notes, etc. Many colleges now have wireless networks, so you can be online from just about anywhere. The big problem at campuses today are viruses, trojans and worms. Whatever you decide on, the operating system that you put on the machine may be the important decision. If you are using Microsoft products, be sure to go with XP Professional. XP Home is not secure enough in this environment.
Some collages will require you to buy their security package before you will be allowed to connect to their network (cost can be minimal; maybe even free). A friend of mine is sending their son to a college that requires students, if they bring a laptop, to get it from Dell.
All of this is because of security issues. I would advise you find out from the collage just what they recommend before you spend any money on any system.

Jay
I was a little quick on the trigger and got in at 68.80, but still a discount to my last sale
Where would be a good re-entry into QCOM?
<shrug> Go to their main page and check for the latest warnings. There is nothing about this there. Obviously, this is something old that has been resurrected and is floating around the internet (again).
Still, the advise is probably good. I'm not inclined to open a card like that, even if I know who it is from. But then I trade off this platform, so I'm very cautious as to what I open.

Atlas Mining has a very good presentation on their web-site. Go to the bottom of the media page and download their presentation. Good week-end reading.

That should make it easier to find.
WORLDWIDE - Anti-virus companies are racing to generate a patch for a new e-mail virus that's spreading like wildfire across the world.
Dubbed "MyDoom", ZDNet.com reports the virus comes into your inbox with one of many random subject lines like "Mail Delivery System" or "Mail Transaction Failed" but there are several others.
As usual, if someone runs the attachment, it launches the virus from your computer. But ZDNet.com reports it's so early in the process, anti-virus companies have yet to determine what exactly the purpose of the virus is.
Zoran delays Q4 report to Feb. 2; says audit is delayed(4:23 PM ET) SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Zoran (ZRAN), which was expected to report its fourth-quarter and full-year results on Monday, said it would delay the release up to a week because its 2003 audit is not yet complete. Shares of the company, which makes consumer-electronics chips, closed the regular session at $20.49 but fell $1.89, or 9.2 percent, to change hands for $18.60 in after-hours trading following the announcement.
Bit of after hours volitility in ZRAN too.

(I hope that works, but if not, go to stockcharts.com and put in NNPP)

Check NNPP.
Since no one has mentioned CREE, I will. Anyone noticed the run today? Percentage wise, it's better than RIMM. Is this short covering or what? Seems like quite a bit of movement for a new product announcement.
Here is some interesting reading with your Sunday morning coffee:

It is much too early to figure out what companies will ultimately profit from this, but it would be worth keeping an eye on the technology.

Thanks Zeev, but I'll respectfully decline. My true interest is not arguing politics, but to listen to your (and some other's) views of the market. While I've not made any money, your advise has kept me from losing a great deal. For that I am grateful.
I'm sorry if I was out of line, but the political discussion on this thread is truly a bore, no matter what your leanings are.
Thanks again for your wonderful guidance.
Jay
Thanks....
Hi Zeev,
I havn't posted to you before because I've found that if I wait long enough, someone else will ask you about a stock I own or am following. However, I've done a search and have not seen any fresh comment by you on ZRAN in almost three weeks. Would you care to comment on how far this one is likely to run?
Also, I know you quit following CREE some time ago, but in light of its present strength, perhaps you might want to revisit this one. I sold my shares prematurely back at 18.5 and would be interested in finding a place to get back in.
Thanks for your on-going market analysis. I'm not much of a trader and don't always profit, but I think you have kept me out of trouble in these dangerous markets.

<Chateau Ste Michelle winery north of Bellevue back then and there wasn't much else out there. I imagine the Redhook facility is somewhere around that area.>
It's right across the street. I'm not far from there myself (Woodinville).
