hi skillz... how does this stuff work here?
There is a law of nature that when many different people collaborate their guesses as to an outcome they are far more accurate than any one person's guess. Even when it has to do with something that is realtively impossible to know or to predict.
Thus market efficiency is more prominent when high volume is present, ie NYSE.
Something to consider.
here's another one that didnt make your list:

PSL1 + PSL2 RETURNS (THE LATEST):
Since SSK posted the PSL1 returns as of this weekend (19 weeks after the contest) and the PSL2 returns as of 2 weeks after the contest, I decided to put those two together and take the average.
Mr. Sheep is not #1. Technically, at this moment, it would be correct to say that the best performer since we began PSL1 is EREHWONTIM (+79.27%).
I find it interesting how bunched the group is - especially at the top. 1. 79.27% Erehwontim

VMC PSL 2 Indexes (Two Weeks After The Contest Has Ended)
Commentary: The top 246 index is pretty obvious it is an equally weighted index of all the stocks picked in the contest. The average portfolio return, means exactly basically what it says. Now the top 23 index is a different story? Why 23 you may ask? Well since you can't get an even # with all the ties, I decide to look at this from a votes perspective, my opinion was anything that received 5 votes or more was kind of a sheepish stock, so there are 23 stocks that received 5 votes. Hence why I created the top 23 index. As we can see the more sheepish stocks are ahead again. Go Sheeps. LOL.
All Indexes are equally weighted.

Question Len
Would it be acceptable to send you a list of picks and then modify them later?
I have some sense of what I would pick however I suspect like most people I am holding off because I don't know what kind of news or price changes could happen in the next week.
I doubt the picks would change.
This would be easier for me but I suspect for you as well so you guys wouldn't be inundated with lists the end of next week.
Rogue:
It is clearly a CONSPIRACY.
... As much as I would love to leave it at that, your return would be 94.66%. I misstated earlier because I made a mistake. SSK is right.
Here are your six picks and their returns.
CHAR +121.15%Add 'em up and divide by 6.
CXPI - 13.27%
EGY +116.76%
HPCO +100.00%
NXG +310.81%
YIWA - 67.50%
Something doesn't seem correct?? 4 of my 6 PSL1 picks are up anywhere from 100% to 400% and still my return is only 94.66%?
My 5th and 6th picks weren't that bad to lower the return that much.
The picks...
roguedolphin: CHAR.ob, CXPI.ob, EGY, HPCO.ob, NXG, YIWA.ob
The return???
9 ROGUEDOLPHIN 94.66%
Something really seems "amiss". Maybe a bad qoute or number "plug-in"? What do you have to do to be #1?? LOL!!
SSK: CORRECTION:
I see the main mistake was HOM. They were +726%, not +889%.
Len
SK,
Thanks for the update, it was great to see my name in the top 10 for PSL1 now. Now if I can only time the performance to coincide with PSL3...
Mat
SSK:
One of us has something seriously wrong. I'll try to figure out what, but I have to leave now.

I didn't run all the numbers, but it is pretty obvious to me that the winner today would have been someone with HOM - which is +889%.
There were only three people with it - Bigpike, Hogfan and Rrufff.
You would have been +146%. Our champion (CWS9) would have been at +101%. However, the HOM boys would have been as follows - based on my quick calculations:
+193% Bigpike
+191% Hogfan
+170% Rrufff

Can we get a PSL1 update??
CHAMPIONS BOARD:
The IBOX has been updated and includes a few words from our winner (NETWORM).

Len
Shmolt: Yes.
Len
OK, so a closing price of over .25 on the 19th, correct?
Shmolt:
The answer is no. You must have 6 stocks that are above 25 cents. If you pick a stock under 30 cents, we either need a back-up in case it ends below 25 on Friday's close OR you can have until midnight Friday to pick a replacement (assuming no news) OR the worst case is we ascribe a cash position.
Len
Can you still pick a stock under .25 but have it counted as a cost basis of .25 or is that gone this time?
PSL3: Board Link:

JFF7, the picks need to be in before the close of the market on may 19th.
JFF7, the beginning of PSL3 is May 22 with the prices of the stocks as of the close of Friday, May 19.
when does PSL3 start? What is the deadline for entry?
Sorry if this is already common knowledge to all the players but I am new to the contest.
JFF7
nsom:
You know, you give a guy an inch.....
I DON'T KNOW! Just when you think it is safe to go back into the water. I'll wait to hear from SSK on that one.
I understand the question and it is a reasonable question. The odds of it mattering are probably very slim, but I suppose it could.
Len
Len - here's a question - if my wild card stock becomes "VMC eliglble" DURING PSL3 (i.e. a profitable pinkie moves to the otcbb, or a not-yet profitable otcbb stock posts a quarterly profit), can I trade one of my other stocks into a NEW wild card stock?
Nsom:
I will. But, I wanted to make sure we had all our ducks in a row here first. With the extra week, I figured I would do it this weekend.
Len
Len - any particular reason you are not posting the PSL3 rules and discussion on the PSL3 board?
Len re publishing results:
As one who has dwelled in the second half of the list for both contests, I would vote for publishing the results of all participants. Easiest way for me to follow how I am doing. Can't believe anyone is so invested in the contest that they worry about "looking bad." I mean, there is nothing real at stake here -- it's just a fun way to get a compilation of good stock ideas every 3 months.
Steve
ONE CHANGE TO PSL3:
Before you get too excited, just remember...
... ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PICK 6 STOCKS THAT ARE OVER 25 CENTS - just make sure at least 5 of them have earnings and report...
EVERYTHING ELSE is part of the strategy of the contest. You can participate in as much strategy as you the rules allow or none at all. The choice is yours.
ADDITION: We forgot about RMIWA's request and it is a reasonable request. It is called Doubling Down. If you decide that you don't like one of your stocks and you want to trade it for an equivalent amount of money into one of your other stocks, you can.
1) You have to wait 2 weeks into the contest - and like other trades or freezes, it will expire 2 weeks before the end of the contest.
2) It will count as one of your 3 transactions.
Just keep in mind that if the stock you are trading has gone from $1,000 to $800 or $1,200 or anything else, that you will only be buying that much money of the stock you are trading into. This is true whether you own the stock or don't. So, in that sense, it isn't a true "Double Down", but it makes a good sound bite.
Len
The idea was that you have to select 6 distinct stocks to begin with, but if during the contest you decide that the stock with the most potential for gain is one you already own, you can sell another stock for 2 shares of an existing holding.
Mat
LEN,,This it ,trading one to double up
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=9937645
PADDY ,, thanks
RMIWA:
Hum. I forgot about that. I presume SSK did too. What was the idea again?
Len
Len,
What caused you to decide against a "double down" rule? Just curious.
Mat
MSGI:
"Wouldn't want him to give the whole list as I am sure the rest of the crowd that finished in the bottom half are sure glad that we don't have to look at that any more."
You notice when I gave the combined rankings for both the percent gains in PSL1 and PSL2 and the combined rankings for both the rankings of PSL1 and PSL2, I only showed the top 30 originally, then the top 40.
Personally, if it was me, I would not publish anything past 40th place, or maybe 50th at the most. As you know, I think a good deal of it is luck - certainly on any single contest. I don't see any reason for someone's name to be buried at the bottom for 3+ months every single day. Why?
Now, if everyone wanted that, then fine. But, who wants to see their name at the bottom day after day after day just because they picked a couple bad stocks that are killing them? I would be concerned that they would lose interest and not want to compete again for fear of looking bad again.
Obviously, I could be wrong, but I would only publish the top 40 unless, and until, I got pressure from everyone to do all of them. But, SSK can do it however he pleases!
Len
Len, I'm sure that SSK could keep everyone updated as to how the top 20 or 30 people are doing had the contest continued. Wouldn't want him to give the whole list as I am sure the rest of the crowd that finished in the bottom half are sure glad that we don't have to look at that any more.
Steel: RE: CHID:
You and be both!
"I would hereby like to suggest adding one extra week to PSL3 to better capture moves that might take place the week after the proposed date."
I would agree with that except that I would modify it to say PSL2 instead of PSL3!
Len
I feel so proud having a rule named after me :)
or should I feel so sad? :(
Can the rule be retroactive to PSL2?
Great job from both of you. This should be another fun contest. By the way, I am establishing my own real "Mr Sheep fund". Go sheep!
