I believe so. Sold all shares @1.84
Is Verizon the main coverage up there?
Compete with Verizon.
So what does ALSK plan to do now? Reading the 8k I see they'll reduce their debt significantly but what is next??
Come on Sara Palin, start loading up shares!
We will See... Just my strategy ;)
MM's will knock out your stop loss and 100's of others, then ALSK will haul upwards. Later today we have huge upside runner. I'm buying your shares @ 1.56
OS 50 Million Shares.... Alsk Sold for 300 Million.... Wonder why trading that low... Got in with a Big Load 1,88 averrage
ANCHORAGE, Alaska--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 4, 2014--Alaska Communications System Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALSK) and General Communication, Inc. (GCI) (NASDAQ:GNCMA) have signed definitive agreements for Alaska Communications to sell its wireless subscriber base and its 33 percent interest in its partnership in the Alaska Wireless Network, LLC (AWN) to GCI for $300 million.
LOL....Massive upside to start with!
Are you kidding. The moment the market opening. Shareholders and investors are going to start taking profits like a free 70 inch flat screen tv give away.
This looks interesting here. There starting to pay off the debt, have a lot of assets and are pulling 5x revenue then market cap. Starting to pull profits.
The Land behind ACS is owned by Verizon take a look at some maps first Over Head View///// Private Road between lots
The Statutory Warranty Deed <--on this page click the See Image tab, also click the Plat: 2010-99 link at the bottom of the page.
Taken from a old article on SA
the Municipality of Anchorage allows anyone with an internet connection to search its property tax assessment database. A simple name search for Verizon in that database yields nothing, however Verizon Wireless has a different legal name. Verizon Wireless is actually a partnership that is 55% owned by Verizon Communications and 45% owned by European telecom giant Vodafone Plc. (NASDAQ:VOD). This entity is called Cellco Partnership and does business as Verizon Wireless. Search the Anchorage database for “Cellco” and you find an ownership record for a four acre parcel of land in midtown Anchorage. The exact location is the most interesting part, as it is directly behind the headquarters of Alaska Communications.
The Municipality of Anchorage identifies the land as parcel # 009-082-23-000 and assesses the value of the empty lot at approximately $1.9 million. The record indicates that ownership of the parcel was last transferred on August 9, 2011. Visiting the website of the State of Alaska Recorder’s Office shows that the land was in fact sold by Alaska Communications to Verizon Wireless, as a Statutory Warranty Deed is on file and signed by Anand Vadapalli (Alaska Communications’ CEO). Also on file with the State Recorder’s Office is a Common Maintenance Access Agreement that allows access from the parcel of land Verizon Wireless purchased to an adjacent parcel owned by Alaska Communications.
Any long-term Anchorage resident can attest that the parcel purchased by Verizon Wireless has been an empty lot covered in trees for years. Images from Google Maps can also verify this as the last photo capture (done sometime in Spring 2011) shows a wooded lot. Beginning in September, the site has seen a recent flurry of activity. What was once land filled with trees has now been completely cleared and a large amount of dirt has been hauled away. A building permit is posted at the site that indicates Verizon Wireless is the site owner/permit applicant, but it lists Alaska Communications as well. The adjacent public road was closed for approximately 10 days as wastewater connections were made. Additionally there have been a lot of pipes buried in the ground around the site, likely a combination of drainage and electrical conduit. Elements of an actual building have not yet materialized, but recently trenches have appeared at the site which could certainly be the location for foundation footings. Searching the Municipality of Anchorage’s building permit activity records shows that two permits were issued in September 2011 for the site. The permits are for a new building and the work is valued at a combined total of $4.4 million. Furthermore, the Muni tax assessment database has been updated to indicate a building on the site that was “built” in 2011. It is listed as a single story “Telephone Equipment Bldg” and has a size of 21,870 square feet. Obviously the building has not yet been built, but it is planned for the site.
So, again another quick summary:
In August 2011 Alaska Communications sold the land directly behind its headquarters to Verizon Wireless (hello 800 lb. gorilla!).
The two companies have been working together to develop the site (as evidenced by posted building permits).
The land was likely purchased for at least $2 million and building permits indicate approximately $4.5 million of planned work. Therefore, the current level of Verizon’s investment in Alaska likely stands between $8 and $10 million (including the purchase price of the 700 MHz spectrum).

ALSK is in great shape, and will continue to grow. Reason being is they are one of only a handful in the world to implement CE 2.0 broadband.. CE 2.0 is far superior compared to any other broadband standard. youtube.com/watch?v=QaAGYut98IU#t=646 a lot of gibber gabbier you might not understand .. You'll notice the third speaker is a bigwig with Verizon which raises the question, Could ALSK get bought out?
How I see it Anand said the company isn't paying for new cable to be laid out, rather have the school districts and government cover costs, then they are able to offer new services to that community. The question comes up why would ALSK get these contracts without low ball pricing? Or will they continue to win out gov contracts? My answer is Yes!, I figure it has to do with CE 2.0 supporting e-access which allows for virtual private networks (VPN) between government and schools. E-Access also offers direct connection to data centers or even cloud services using (VPN). E access offers maximum data with the lowest cost for government, schools and business.
Multi CoS is like optimization or synchronization of data traffic, optimized mobile back haul for LTE/4G, consistent performance no matter distance away from ALSK Server location..
Last thing that comes to mind is when Bell Atlantic bought out General Telephone to become Verizon there was one states phone company that was left out of the deal and that was Alaska. With state of the Art Broadband, also being a profitable company, and with Verizon after all these years now moving in, is a buy out possible?
I think there is an upside. I think the answers you seek are
to be found on page 18 and 19 of the 10-Q filed May 9, 2014.
ALSK received $100 MM from a competitor (GCI) and formed
Alaska Wireless Network (AWN). They used this money to
pay off debt and give stockholders a $2 divi. The stock then
dropped from $4 to $2, as expected, but instead of climbing
back up it kept on dropping to the range it is at now. I think
this is the bottom and it is way oversold. But the market
does not not think so. I think the market doesn't think of
Alaska at all except for fishing and oil. When they do, they
are more afraid of Verizon just entering the Alaskan market
than anything. But ALSK anticipated that and have a business
plan to cover it. Buy and Hold, or add at this level. IMHO.
It isn't meaningless if it is relevant to valuation. I am a contrarian investor. And when I see a company that has been dramatically devalued, my interest is piqued. Specifically, while revenues have declined at an annual rate of -5.10% for the past 5 years share price has tanked -78%.
A market correction may represent an over correction. My question was whether the correction has been overestimated and if there was an up-side.
Nobody cares about 2009 or 1909.
You don't even have a clue what other 50 factors affected the stock price in 2009.
It's meaningless.
What does 2009 have to do with anything I posted.......NOTHING
BTW, 2009 was 5 years ago and means nothing to anybody relative to ALSK.
"13: 72.62%"
You don't use special one time paper gains in valuing any company.
Operational margin:
2004: 3.34%
05: 8.30%
06: 14.58%
07: 15.67%
08: 3.88 %
09: 9.54%
10: 13.81%
11: 18.21%
12: 17.21%
13: 72.62%
ttm: 10.53%
Operational margin is relatively the same as it was in 2009. Share price was $8 a share. Now it is as $1.78
It has declined YoY. However the question was simply whether there was value in the company as a contrarian play.
Because of it's operating losses, it's balance sheet and it's worsening financial results.
Why is this stock so cheap?
Alaska Communications to Report First Quarter 2014 Financial Results May 9
Added some at $1.87 today. Earnings on May 9 should give
this a pop. Anchorage schools with 50,000 students and their
teachers will benefit from continuing expansion of fibre cable
and 4S wireless. VZ would have to buy them to beat them.
Last time ALSK touched 2.00 was March 11th. Shorts are
starting to cover, I guess. Too many people think VZ will
steal their lunch. They don't know Alaska.
p/e less than 1 seems low to me. Should be a good buying time.
Earnings comeing march 6 I expect to see a large percentage increase on yearly numbers.
Im in 175 shares. Head and shoulders on one year chart.90 million + revenue 2.20 pps. Profitability increasing. Short term prospects looking good. News of more profits soon. Occasionally paid a dividend here too in the past. Buy at your own risk as nothing is certain. I did. Good technical indicators observed here.
One year chart looks like a head and shoulders to me. Tilted up. Way earningsa jump. I tried 175 shares today. we shall see.

There will be no buyout any time soon. The FCC would block
VZ because it would give them a monopoly in Alaska. Also, see
http://www.forbes.com/sites/oreillymedia/2014/01/19/court-prods-fcc-in-unexpected-direction-in-last-weeks-verizon-ruling/
Yea, ALSK bought them to get into the cellular business
before VZ, just trying to get a foothold in the State, ate them
for breakfast. But that was before VZ took on a mountain of
debt, and diluted itself in the process, to buy the 45% of it's
own stock back from VOD. For the near term, since the VOD
deal has not yet been completed, or the completion date not
even announced, VZ is hardly in position to buy ALSK out.
As far as I know, T isn't even in the state.
A buyout would be tremendous and is WAY OVERDUE!!! A smart purchase this would be..
$ALSK Bought those towers for a reason bud! I'm Holding strong!Looking for 8X PPS here!
Hey bud good to see you here! I am long also. I'm expecting a buy out IMHO! What do you think?
Hey army flipped this once off bottom holding long now
Frankly I don't know what is going on. And as you can see,
very little insight to be gained here as nobody's posting.
I'm still holding 2000 for the long haul and I'm hoping they
will start paying a dividend again. I think Verizon would be
prevented from a merger. If approved, they easily would
hold a monopoly.
Smart Move on $ALSK 's part! Buy out set up? I wonder if Verizon or some one is looking at them?
$ALSK grabbed a position here. Can't wait for summer sales numbers.
