AMD would need a home run with 65nm to solve this problem.

I'd imagine that they'll start converting FAB30 to 65nm as they develop confidence in the 90nm process in FAB36. Therefore the 2006 ramp in production may not be as pronounced as some believe but should still be significant. BTW, Chartered was originally scheduled to come online as a 2nd source in 2006. Does anybody know if this is still on schedule? Considering AMD's history at 2nd sourcing CPU production I'm not banking on any 2006 output. In fact, I'd be pleasantly surprised to see anything in 2007.

You guys must be discussing something other than the server segment. AMD could supply the *entire* x86 server segment, let alone Dell, using less than half of Fab 30. So they would sell fewer Semprons-- who cares. Earnings would go through the roof.
