I am not a Mod here, but my .02 worth is, I'm not sure there is a "term" other than maybe using "minions" for "manipulation"

I don't think just chatting is illegal for anyone, depends on they say.

RichRichRich: To part of your post to Janice: " In the situation I witnessed, the company member even went further through this supportive poster, and thought it would be nice if they revealed the basher's personal name and email address "

No I-H member is permitted to post any personal information about another I-H member regardless to the origins of that personal information.

Violation of privacy of any member is a cardinal sin according to the Terms Of Use.

What is the term for when actual company personnel get involved in reading the posts here(or any forum), and rather than comment to say a "basher" directly, they instead use a different "path" of communication, like say their own website's chat board, to communicate information back to a "supportive" member on the board, who then posts this "company info" to the board, as return "comments" to the basher?

I believe the technical term is "silly".

In my view, if a CEO wants to respond to questions being raised on message boards, he'd do best to do it in a different venue. As noted, priming someone else to post for him makes him look silly. His best course might be simply to expand the material on the company website to include the issue or issues at hand.

If a CEO really wants to participate on a message board--I think it's a mistake--then he should use his real name and be sure to abide by the rules of the site. Many don't do either.

A few days ago this company suspended its CEO for his posts on a Yahoo board:
