#151793 RE: Wildman262 #151792

This is a bit of a dilemma...I am almost certain I read that WDC was the largest supplier of harddrives to Dell ( a very large per centage) and then Seagate gets the FDE.2 there, and it is growing to take what appears to be the lions share of drives at Dell..with Wave's mgt software..and HP is although leading the market in computer sales..falling behind in the encrypted (secure) sales..or offerings? Is it possible that Dell could get the advantage again this quickly in the laptop market ( which is the fastest growing market throughout the whole world in computer industry...

Wildman- The only scenario I can envision

where HP doesn't offer this complete solution eventually, is that they go with Hitachi and get someone else to provide Wave-like functionality. That seems far-fetched, because in a mixed environment with mixed TPMs, I'm pretty sure Wave is the only option for true interoperability. And even though TPM's aren't necessary for FDE to function properly, I believe sooner or later it will all be tied to the TPM. Alea made the point that HP has always been more consumer-oriented than Dell, so maybe that explains their sluggishness, but I really think they are at risk to blow their recent gains if Dell markets this 'killer app' as aggressively as it deserves to be.
