Yowza, quite a story! My wife and I were moving fast coming down out of a canyon in the Tetons and had a cow moose lumber out of the bushes within a few yards of us. When I first saw the very large brown moving form I was sure it was a bear and yelled 'oh shit' loud enough to scare the moose away. The bull moose was just off the trail on the other side a few yards down but he just stared at us as we went by him. Very close encounter but unlike you we fortunately avoided any physical contact.

Scary stuff. We have mountain lions in the LA area, but no moose. We had coyotes in our backyard and neighborhood, but they are tame. Nothing like your encounter.
