Thank you, Johnni, for your post and for speaking up. I think that you will find many kindred souls here who have also been here quietly for the better part of a decade. Welcome!

Interesting thoughts on why the trial has taken so long. I am glad your husband is doing well after the scary episodes. All the best in raising those young kids.

Welcome to the NWBO MB. We both have something in common. I got a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago long time ago.

P.S. The trial has taken so long, so most of the posters on this MB are fairly old, imo.

@Johnni

mmm
"I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Carleton College and a master's from the University of Chicago in social sciences"
We have bright one here. Very bright I suspect.

Outliers, whether a person or new scientific approach, are often dismissed before they are heard. Therefore the clinical support of the DCVAX-L has to be perfect. This line of thinking supports the reason for this never ending trial.

On the other hand, most companies communicate with their owners(investors) and manage the investors expectation. This is not NWBO's strong suit. Lack of communication leads to speculation as to what is happening based on personal bias/beliefs/hopes more then facts

Johnni,

Welcome to the board! As far,as the discussion about women in science goes one of the strengths supposedly tested for is a tendency to work in groups or teams better for problem solving and that is in evidence here with Dr. Linda Liau and Linda Powers. They both took on challenges that most felt would lead them down the road to nowhere. Linda Powers kept the hope of Dr. Linda Liau's dream alive at a time when it was set to completely crash and burn. What is interesting is that both of these women were influenced by men who worked with then. I believe Dr. Ralph Steinman, who won the Nobel Prize for science for his research into dendritic cells, had a big impact on Linda Powers when they served together on a board or committee which I don't recall the name of offhand. If I recall correctly Dr. Linda Liau worked as an understudy to man who had begun some research into DC use as a treatment and she continued the pursuit of creating an effective DC vaccine for brain cancer after that. Much of this discussion happened years ago but it is always good to bring it up once in a while to remind everyone how the path forward here actually occurred. Glad you finally spoke up and so glad for you and your husband that his surgery and treatment went well. Best wishes.

I think you have incredible insight; your words are what a lot of us here can relate to. As a Physician who went to Medical School at the age of 43 I can tell you I agree with the weirdness issue regarding Doctors. I don’t hang out with any, not my cup of tea. And I agree with your perspective on women in Medicine and Research as to the perfectionist attitude and perhaps this is for lack of underlying ego or greed. I think that general statement has a bit of merit in my experience.

Anyway, welcome, and please continue to jump in with your thoughts. We can go at it pretty good here, but there is some great information bantered about in this forum, despite some posters that can easily outdo the weirdness of the strangest Oncologist...haha.

Welcome, I've been here about eighteen months, but just recently jumped into the deep end after the Duffy hire.
