“. I don;t believe this is a very common occurrence as most short positions are covered before that happens. If warrant holders are indeed shorting they have all the time in the world to wait it out. “

If someone shares are loaned out and then after a nice run up they decide to place a sell order then those shares are no longer eligible short and can trigger a close to the shorts. That how it was explain to me. I do agree the shorts covering will not be the impetus to a higher share price. It will be the science. I also believe most shorts are hedged against a run.

"This is still, IMO, the only logical explanation for almost 5M shares being short."
And also all the big longs who are hedging using both options and shorts...If that were not the case, we would have seen massive covering by now.

Listen, unlike me, there are a group of investors (who may be smarter than me), who are NOT trying to squeeze every penny out of an investment.
They would rather go for the sure, guaranteed "Lesser" profit, and hedge.

That's all this is - I think (but not clearly all the time).

I would think someone with warrants would be prohibited from shorting with those shares as it would violate contractual agreements for the warrants.

Thoughts?

If warrant holders are indeed shorting they have all the time in the world to wait it out. They get to buy at a set price no matter what.

But they still have to pay interest.
