I'm not being difficult, but I am confused, are you a family doctor or an ER doctor? In your previous post, you said EMR, but now you say family doctor - I'm not playing a game of GOTCHA but what you do and your (frequency) interaction with your patients matters in this discussion.

A family doctor who sees 45 patients per day on average is highly contradictory to the article that I posted yesterday.

But to my main point: out of your 300 prescriptions, 2 patients had an event and 1 had TG go back to original numbers after one test is your evidence of vascepa's ineffectiveness?

Last question, how many of these 300 do you see on recurring basis? More than once?

I'm not aware of OTC Omega 3 or fish oil products. There are explicit differences between OTC and DS. As an MD do you not know this or are you being casually imprecise? If there is an actual OTC Omega 3, please share. Thanks.

Ralphey re your expectation with diabetics high TG/low HDL

consider the following

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28122840

NOTE High TG and low HDL level was associated with CHD risk in participants with an LDL-C level of =130 mg/dL, but this was not observed in those participants with lower LDL-C levels

benefit seen when LDL was over 130 ...in JELIS median was 178 !
In R-IT median LDL is likely to be between 70-80 .....so you may not see the benefit you are expecting .
Biggest benefit IMHO is likely with those patients with recent PCI's / CABG's .

Re your idea of including a statin naive arm. Probably 60% of those in R-IT will be either stented or CABG . How many of these patients do you really think are now not on Statin therapy ?
Most studies show that for those who consider themselves Statin intolerant ...can adjust to some Statin dose by starting out with very low dose every second day on a Statin like Livalo and gradually working up.
Bet anyone having been thru a PCI or CABG will really try and comply with their Cardiologist's instructions re Statin dose....even if it means putting up with some leg cramps .

From page 98 of Amarin's complaint to the United States International Trade Commission: "Notably, there are no legally marketed OTC drugs containing omega-3 fatty acids."

So once again, what point are you trying to make with your OTC references? Thanks.

From pages 97 & 98 of Amarin's complaint to the United States International Trade Commission:

"222. The Proposed Respondents’ conflation of Amarin’s FDA-approved Vascepa® product with their Synthetically Produced Omega-3 Products has caused confusion in the marketplace about the distinction between “drugs” and “dietary supplements” to the detriment of the Vascepa® brand. A survey conducted by Fairleigh Dickenson University’s Public Mind Poll entitled, “What’s In Your Supplements? Even The Experts Are Stumped,” reported that “[a]mong those physicians and pharmacists who had recommended a non-prescription omega-3 product to patients, more than four in five (85%) believed incorrectly that they had recommended an FDA-approved OTC product . . . .” Exhibit 77. Notably, there are no legally marketed OTC drugs containing omega-3 fatty acids."

Are you among the 85% of physicians and pharmacists who incorrectly believe you are recommending an FDA-approved OTC product? Thanks.
