All They Strat Protoype is that in itself, a Prototype, i.e., PROOF OF CONCEPT/WORKING PROTOTYPE. Companies do this all the time. Look at the auto industry. Every auto company has concept cars, and always those PROTOTYPES never make it to market, but many of the NEW IDEAS that are on the car prototypes are used in future cars. It is the same as software companies, except they use there users to beta test there prototype software. The same way GTE test the servers for a period of time before they go online. How good are the GTE people in every division? No matter what GTE Management PR's, they still give the Employees the control and time needed to do the job right. If not, they could have tested the original Strat and the results could have been a disaster. They could have just put the New servers online and had more problems. Anyone with experience with running servers knows that its not as easy as just plugging in a few wires and loading some software.

Techisbest..that is not the Sanswire 2 prototype in the background of the pictures, as would be expected in light of the security measures that have been taken to date. The text of Chang's article, as you have posted, says the 125' prototype is in a guarded hanger held down by orange sandbags. The picture shows a fabric component that is not being held down but is resting on sawhorse type fixtures. If you look carefully you can see it "draping" across them. In one picture orange cones are visible but they are not visible in the other picture, so they would not have been mistaken by the author for sandbags holding it down. There are air hoses which likely are keeping it inflated with regular air. In an e-mail to Rocky, Tim Huff identified this fabric component as part of the gas containment system, which as we know resides within the rigid frame of the Sanswire airship. This is essentially a photo prop set up for the article, imo.
