My mom has 80 percent carotid stenosis. She is secondary prevention not primary.


Perhaps it is you who are not understanding the terminology.

Unless your mom also had diabetes, she wouldn't even be considered primary prevention in this trial.

From the protocol:

There are two CV risk categories:

• CV Risk Category 1: patients with established CVD defined in the inclusion criteria.
Patients with diabetes and established CVD are included in this category.

• CV Risk Category 2: patients with diabetes and at least one additional risk factor for CVD, but no established CVD. This is primary prevention group.

When you look at the inclusion criteria you will see that 80% carotid stenosis is not sufficient to establish CVD in this trial.

So, for these discussions specific to the R-IT patient populations, you may think of your mom as secondary prevention, but in reality she is not even primary prevention.
