Did you see the drone that fell from the sky and almost hit a skier?
January 2014
“While LaserMotive had not anticipated interest from research labs and other market sectors, the team quickly worked to address the needs of these potential customers.
Even though the company tagline says, “Power delivery via laser,” Nugent says LaserMotive is able to deliver “complete end-to-end power solutions and integrate them with customer products.” Voltage regulation, power distribution, battery charging, and, of course, power transmission via laser, are all areas LaserMotive can manage and customize for customers.
Nugent says LaserMotive is refining its PoF product line to better meet the demands of customers in those markets who need electrical isolation due to high voltage or sensitivity to RF interference.
He can’t yet talk publicly about ongoing projects with global Fortune 500 companies, but he’s excited about the future.
“Long term, there are exciting applications for space propulsion and long-range power delivery to exploration robots on the moon and asteroids,” Nugent says.”

Well if this is so .. then i imagine a Google type conglomerate would be more than a little interested in what is happening behind here / there .!?
“In the past year, our team has worked on multiple research initiatives related to unmanned systems and sensors. These include the cybersecurity of command and control links for commercial unmanned aerial systems, the creation of full-dimensional images of bridges and infrastructure, lighter than air atmospheric satellites capable of persistent operation in the stratosphere, wireless transmission of power to aerial platforms and various surveillance and security related applications and tactics for unmanned systems and sensors. As a company committed to “beating swords into ploughshares”, we are continually on the lookout for military and security technologies that can also make our world a safer, more prosperous place. Our team has appreciated the opportunity to work on research efforts with companies and institutes such as Riverside Research, WSGI, Kucera International and Electronic Warfare Associates and with universities that include Ohio University, Virginia Tech, Drexel University and Wright State University (Dayton).”

If not, does anyone know if they are convertible by manufacturer or GTC? I am just thinking, if we have free simplex data worldwide, profit margin could increase greatly if we had such a device linking through the Globalstar constellation. GLTA, Indy.

The Argus was launched by hand (s) .. & with an electric propulsion system ???
“The Army is preparing to design a long-range, hand-launched UAV.
The request for information is for a Long Range Reconnaissance and Surveillance (LRRS) UAV. The Army wants endurance of at least two hours and a range of at least 10 kilometers, with eight hours and 30 kilometers the ultimate goal. The UAV shuold have a ceiling of no less than 10,500 feet, and up to 16,000.
It also must be launched by hand, catapult, bungee or other simple means, according to the RFI. The UAV also must be near-silent, inaudible to listeners on the ground at an altitude for 400 to 500 feet.”

We’re aloud to make mistakes .. but we’re supposed to be learning from them
We know the Military / Government want / need of LTA UAS has moved to big business as well .. and that’s great news if we can ever fine tune the platform that moved to the Ohio area

“Doug Armstrong, President and CEO of EWA GSI stated, "We made a strategic decision to invest in Ohio to support the Air Force and the Ohio/Indiana UAS Test Center and we are pleased to be involved in the Ohio LTA UAS Research, Development and Commercialization Consortium."
Greg Carter, Director of Air Force Programs at EWA GSI added, "Our participation in the Consortium will be a great opportunity to support WSGI with engineering and test expertise as well as advance Ohio as a UAS leader."

Military Veteran to Provide New Leadership for GTC
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 01/08/15 -- World Surveillance Group Inc. (OTC PINK: WSGI), a developer of lighter-than-air unmanned aerial systems and provider of satellite communications services, has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Global Telesat Corp. (the "Company") has appointed Dennis DeMolet as President of the Company and a member of the Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. DeMolet, a retired member of the United States Marine Corp., is an experienced business owner and a leading expert on small business and veterans' business affairs. He is a member of the Regional Board of Directors for National Military Intelligence Association International, is a member of the Board of Directors of VETFORCE, and was formerly the Chairman US SBA Veterans Business Advisory Committee.
Mr. DeMolet has over three decades of business experience within Fortune 100 companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation, Hughes Aircraft, Panasonic Computer Corporation and Raytheon Corporation. Mr. DeMolet has been selected Ohio's most outstanding disabled veteran and had received many awards and accolades from various groups including the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Veterans Administration Center and the US Small Business Administration. Most recently Mr. DeMolet received the John Lopez National Pillar of the Movement Award for Service to Veteran Businesses in recognition of his lifetime accomplishments.
Glenn D. Estrella, President and CEO of World Surveillance Group, stated "On behalf of our subsidiary Global Telesat, we are all extremely excited to welcome Dennis to the GTC/WSGI team. He brings enthusiasm, business experience and broad contacts throughout the military, veteran and government agencies that we hope to leverage to expand GTC's satellite communications and tracking business. Following WSGI's recent deal, we intend to focus both on the growth of GTC's business and we believe we have taken the first step towards this goal with the appointment of Mr. DeMolet, but also on the advancement of the development of our Argus One airship in concert with the Ohio Lighter Than Air UAS Consortium, of which WSGI was a founding member."
Dennis DeMolet, President of Global Telesat, stated "I look forward to actively working with the GTC/WSGI team and those at Trident Aerial Recon responsible for day to day operations at GTC. Our goal is to expand Global Telesat's satellite communications and tracking business by directly accessing and leveraging my broad contacts in government agencies, defense and veterans networks, not only through website, Amazon and EBay store sales. We intend to be proactive in our selling efforts to expand GTC's customer base and its satellite tracking business."

“WSGI has already said in a 10-K that they plan to replace the heavy internal combustion powerplant with a lighter, higher altitude capable electric one. That allows for increase in both ceiling and payload, IMO. Gosh, if we can just find someone smart enough to cut the weight of on-board electric power supply--that would be great. Where could we find someone to do that?”
“Miniaturization is important to WSGI and that is why it is good they have formal contacts with EWA (who have a miniaturization business unit)and, through Trident, informal connections to Valtronic in Ohio.”

Imo .. These LTA products certainly have benefits .. but until the Helium can in fact be reclaimed / reused .. @ $1000.00 to fill a 15-ft diameter balloon & then to just release / blow the gas off is a waste of money & resources.
Thanks again rattle for sharing your findings & good luck with DRNE
Thanks Rattlewatch for sharing your opinion & the Gsat tracking link
Gsat tracking capability shows an 80% efficiency .. still missing large ocean areas
Here is a sad reminder .. for a need of a global tracking capability. One that can’t be turned off from within:
“Malaysian PM says lost airliner was diverted deliberately”
“Earlier, a source familiar with official U.S. assessments of electronic signals sent to geostationary satellites operated by Britain's Inmarsat said it appeared most likely the plane had turned south over the Indian Ocean, where it would presumably have run out of fuel and crashed into the sea.
It is possible that the military radars were switched off as we operate on an as-required basis. So perhaps secondary radars were operating, which may not have the required range to detect a flight at an altitude of 35,000 feet."
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/15/us-malaysiaairlines-flight-idUSBREA2701720140315
If we’re supplying the means to track on a global scale:
"The agreements require GTC to provide specialized satellite tracking devices, satellite airtime and online mapping capabilities to organizations wishing to locate and monitor the movements of a variety of mobile assets across the world. These asset tracking contract requirements include locating shipping containers, commercial cargo vessels and high-altitude balloons.
GTC will provide specialized satellite tracking hardware operating on the Iridium and Globalstar networks, together with airtime and access to its proprietary mapping portal, GTCTrack, which enables the tracking devices to be visually located and monitored by customers in near real-time from a PC or mobile device. The tracking devices provided by GTC will send predefined messages with their respective GPS locations and other information required by customers to track the beginning or end of an asset's journey or its movement out of a pre-authorized zone."

Here is a link giving the flight duration of the Argus:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=78148557
Imo .. a limited 8hrs operating window is what was wrong with the old propulsion system Mad
Imaswsami, a number of years ago, used to talk about photocells .. how they needed to be a certain efficiency before they could be considered for LTA platforms
LM had their experimental airship covered with them a couple yrs ago so I imagine the process has to be getting close to happening somewhere - somehow
We know technology is allowing for equipment to be made smaller & more efficient all the time
& With aviation having such a history in Ohio .. I can’t imagine how our consortium could not take this opportunity to make something (s) uniquely special
Because we know if they do .. there is still a HUGE payday (s) from it .. with the extra large corps that want these platforms & military (s)
Like everything it is evolving. We’ve seen many different versions ( Strat, SkySat, Airworm, STS-111 ) of a shared idea but even the 8 hr flight capable Argus needed reworked. I’m not pretending we have a product .. & it hurts to focus @ the company in the moment .. but in a realistic perspective something more can become of this
I feel your frustration ricky .. but our BiB design:
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=78100567
was switched into what the Hess’s had on the market already?
Imo .. IJO told us that there were limitations for the ma & pa shops. That if they became part of something greater their future could be brighter?
For whatever reason (s) the anticipated sales / combined successes were too slow in coming and wsgi couldn’t uphold their promise of grandeur .. and did the only thing possible, with the help of outside forces .. in letting the Hess’s re-evaluate their options .. to what we see today
I feel the Argus still represents a great opportunity. That with experience everything changes with time. Until recently, we are seeing the interest from those very large corporations .. wanting access to the space high above .. using a controllable means to providing services that people / populations have only dreamt about
I also believe that there is a very capable collection of intelligence working on this grandeur in Ohio .. & success will be rewarding
I believe when idea's are shared & then built upon anything becomes possible .!?

"We have also seen significant growth in sales of Globalstar related products, specifically simplex airtime which has seen an increase of more than 900% for the first five months of 2014 ... This is due primarily to GTC having secured a number of very profitable tracking contracts during the past year, some of which were awarded directly as a result of GTC's advanced mapping portal, GTCTrack. Bank, we haven’t seen or heard anything more of the early summer demo of the Argus .. but from reading that the airship division had a completed case study dated July 8 .. & that middle altitude capabilities of the Argus will be refined .. it does seem to indicate that we are close to moving forward .. up ; )
“On July 8 we completed a written comprehensive business case and technology analysis for our airship division. In that business case it became clear that the best use of our Argus One prototype is to continue to refine the middle altitude capabilities of the Argus One and continue to seek military and commercial partners in the United States and abroad through marketing partners such as Trident and EWA Government Systems.”

I remember reading something somewhere about why 65 000’ was important .. that there wasn’t a charge to broadcast from that height by the FCC? Which may be why the Google-Loon communications type sized payload is mentioned with that platform .. but until that version of the Argus is ready .. would the 20 000’ Argus not be ideal IF it could stay on station for a lengthy period on time
Thanks Bank for sharing your time

I imagine it is the Argus or a variant that has stirred this possibility .. but until they see it in action this isn’t going to happen .. imo
Not what you were asking for .. but an interesting development ( I’m sure you’re aware of it ) that fits nicely with that platform you’re working with.

Hope things are going well
Imo
We got to read some of Kroplin's research work while he was still apart of our adventure. From what I remember A) The segmented design is to handle the winds better .. a football shaped airship catches too much wind and gets blown off course. ( Maybe we need to make each segment more of a ball shape? Would that help with patent infringements on Kroplins design? And aren't the aerodynamics of a ball shaped object a better concept anyway .. just thinking about planet's shape as they hurtle through space .. why are they all ball shaped?
B) The segmented design allows the platform to bend as unseen forces push down and can break the back of a traditional shape airship as it ascends / rises higher up
I read in a military article a while back .. that they wanted at least a 7 day loiter time capability for these LTA platforms. I believe it was a statosheric model that they were talking about .. but hey I'm sure they'd be happy @ 20 000' too .. if, IF our Ohio friends can solve that issue too.
Kroplins Ethane or fuel gas filled platform was said to have a few days of on-station loiter capability. The highly flammable gas was contained in expandable bag type material. The Hindenburg disaster stopped the airship revolution many years ago. Even though reports indicate it was the cover doping that caught fire first .. before ALL the flammable gases within .. I imagine that is why Kroplins design has yet to make main stream?
The all new redesigned Argus platform had what looked like a gasoline engine & the redesigned pod had a metal based gas tank. The problem then was, however, that the Argus had an 8 hr flight limit capability.
The good news .. the desire for high altitude station keeping is greater than ever. We know all the components needed to accomplish this goal are getting smaller all the time .. technology is getting better .. people are getting smarter & our team consists of a group, from an area, who lay claim to first flight! I imagine they're trying everything possible to add LTA UAS @ all altitude to their claim ; )
Thanks Indy, Drew, Glynn & team for keeping the dream alive .. good luck
Indy .. could these people assist us with our goals. Reads as though the thin film is connected directly to the engine? If our engine doesn’t need to operate continuously .. (as we float along) or maybe there is a light-weight lithium battery component out there yet that could assist in over night stationing?

I hate that we had to sell LTAS as well .. but we know we were hurting for cash & we were constantly complaining about the rising share count. So, now we have cash on hand .. & if things play out well for the tethered platform ( as we assumed they would / will ) we have 10 000 000 shares going forward to continue an inflow of cash
I find it interesting that LTAS ended up in Nevada:
“While we regret that the business decided not to relocate to Nevada, perhaps with Councilman Beers’ assistance in the future, World Surveillance Group would be willing to revisit relocating and, in that case, we would certainly be very interested in renewing incentive discussions with them,” Cooper replied to a query.”

It was the Stratellite vision of what could be .. that caught my attention oh-so long ago ( f**k time fly’s )
The company says it’s time to refocus on the Argus / LTA UAS .. & I’m glad to learn of that.
Here are some quote's ( a few yrs old but the desires haven’t changed ) from Jeff Faunce, deputy, Experiments Division, USASMDC/ARSTRAT Battle Lab .. who was working with the WASP:
“U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s (SMDC’s) Space and Missile Defense Battle Lab is working on the high-flying infrastructure needed for the capability to work in mountainous or “concrete canyon” settings.
The goal is to create an aircraft that can remain airborne at 65,000 feet, where the winds are most benign, for at least seven days.
Jeff Faunce, deputy for experiments, Army Space and Missile Defense Battle Lab, calls the stratospheric platforms the “long pole in the tent” for delivering this handheld device to warfighters. But Faunce allows that, while aerostats are not the ultimate solution to the aerial element of the TactiCell configuration, they make a perfect testbed because they at least provide mobile cell coverage over a particular area. “In that class of vehicle, up in the stratosphere, we are hopefully closer rather than further away [from a solution],” he states.[/color]
“The airships are intended to run on solar power. [They are designed to] have solar panels along the skin of the airship to gather that energy that will allow them to persist much, much longer up in the stratosphere,” Faunce explains.”

We have to be getting close!?!?!
Good eye, hawk ; ) hmm .. don’t know. 14.2 is listed multiple times within the post. If 2013 is correct .. they were being very pro-active
Great find Lopsided! It would seem that the time-lines of this recent job posting relates to the recent $408 million contract A-T Solutions won for JIEDDO’s Joint Counter-IED Integration Training Program. When considering when the BiB’s first went to Fort Polk & the previous hire A-T did for the BiB 250 there?
A-T Solutions is a happening place .. the job posting was on pg 17 within their career section. I noticed a number of other IED related postings fyi

Speaking of time-lines:

“C,mon, Yuma got us to JIEDDO, JIEDDO got us to BiB as first spiral in tactical/mobile LTA persistent surveillance and BiB got us to initial LTA product sales IMO. It seems obvious IMO that Yuma was successful in that way. JIEDDO's historic connection with Yuma is well known--slide three of this presentation:

Your Captain friend is right IMO that 17, 22, 24 meter blimps are going away. If he wants to replace them with HTA, good luck. IMO LTA persistent surveillance is here to stay at the tactical level. What will it look like--that is the real question IMO.”

This was from a recent job posting @ the NIE:
"upcoming NIE 14.2 event, 21 April through 23 May."

The recent 10-K mentions a “Hybrid engine” for the Argus. Solar fits hybrid.
It would seem the Argus started off with the Army .. but in Ohio, is now Air Force?
The Air Force & Air Force Research Laboratory ( which is @ the Wright-Patterson base in Ohio ) have been working with Hybrid Engines & solar arrays. The gas engine that was on the Argus had an 8 hr limit / per 250 mile tour .. & that isn’t enough imo
Indy said of the Argus .. “we have a working proto-type for pete’s sake”. Ok, we have the means / know-how to raise, lower, free fry a LTA UAS .. but for only 8 hrs! So why wouldn’t you skin it with metal looking solar photo array ( that seems to be available? ) & add in a “hybrid engine”??
We know WSGI were again to be at the NIE 14.2 with the tethered WASP’s, because of the SMDC. We also know that the military want UAS’s ( LTA were mentioned a while back ) to be included in their network .. & that the SMDC ( White Sands ) are also interested in airships.
So, imo .. the Argus needs to be @ the NIE now also
I think it may have been an airship that the UFO witness observed.
Here imo is an interesting post by IJO:
"Friday, 11/08/13
My observation is that Glenn does not report incremental advances but only true "material" activity--sales, teaming agreements and other clear, maybe even legal and verifiable, milestones. He is, after all, IMO a no-nonsense guy. That is probably best given WSGI's legacy. I think that is why news comes out in bursts IMO. You have to hit triggers IMO that reach the level that he and Barbara feel appropriate.
I am not allowed to say where the Argus is or, if it were to travel somewhere, where it traveled and what it did. And, really, apart from a SBIR or STTR or sales of course, what does it matter how the research and development advances? If there isn't money in it I don't think it would affect SP. I don't think additional testing anywhere is news for the Argus to SHs. Maybe a demo for members of Congress but, short of that, I think we won't hear much.
Now even in a situation like I just described you stumble over milestones that can't be ignored--you sign a research agreement with an Air Force lab or something like that. That, by definition, is material and would be reported even if there were half a dozen more significant things that happen that don't reach that level.
The Argus us one of the few remaining LTA UAV's within the realm observation of the DoD. From a competitive advantage standpoint, it is probably NOT wise to give too much detail about research initiatives or directions. We are temporarily in a cutting edge position (probably bleeding edge is what you feel) and what we really need to do IMO is capitalize on it if at all possible.
Wish I could tell you my personal experience with the Argus so far but I don't think I can. Whatever it has been has been quite stimulating and positive. Let's hit a couple required reporting triggers and then we can talk more maybe. But I only expect "popcorn" news about anything WSGI does and not newsie, chatty activity updates. Maybe in another season for WSGI but right now it is apparently time to produce and not promote I guess. IMO Glenn has great sense about this stuff. JMO
SP sux today but IMO there are other explanations than the news cycle. If it helps, when there is a news drought Glenn does regularly check with us on various sales or development initiatives that might hit that newsworthy or substance level. But I have never seen him release the news prematurely. Must take discipline in times like this IMO. Best to you and yours, IJO"
