NEIK - I've been scooping up shares of this as well over the past week or two. The letter of credit should certainly signify that there is opportunity for increased business around the corner. Northstar's business is highly regarded by the military, it's a growing company, and I think we'll see better management of operating expenses in the upcoming quarters. It seems like a good buy and hold candidate.
Nice! Yeah, I had a feeling that the stock would steadily rise after the morning sell-off. I dumped my Puts at open, but I wish I would have taken a Call position as well for max pain.
Good luck!
Wow! If you can time it right, BIDU can be extremely volatile. Your call might be a good buy. BIDU still has positive sentiment, so I have a feeling it will head north now that the earnings news is done.
I was tempted to buy some BIDU calls, but I would have done so at the open. The share price is actually up $20 from open now. I didn't want to press my luck :)
Yep, I sold for $15. Talk about a gamble going right for once. I've had some bad trades of late, so this helps immensely :)
BIDU - I sold my $1.50 PUTS today first thing for $15.00. Maybe I could have waited for more, but I'll take that kind of gainer any day. Ended up a $6,750 profit on an investment of $750. Wow, I wish I could do that more often.
Yep, I only paid $750 for the 5 Nov $350 Puts, so I figured it was worth the gamble. Looks like I might make out okay if after hours is any indication...
BIDU - I bought 5 whopping Nov $350 Puts for $1.50 early this afternoon. I doubt i'll hold them long, but am tempted to see what happens after earnings tomorrow. Then again, if I can get $2.50 or more by EOD, I'll take it.
bbotcs - Maybe it is a reference to their "stinky cheese" varieties. From their site, evidently "stinky, washed-rind" cheeses are best compliments to strong beer such as an IPA. Since I'm a huge IPA fan, I may have to try some stinky cheese from ArtisANAL.
too funny.
LOL. DDRX is simply amazing. I was tempted to short it a couple of months ago simply due to the incredible rise, but it's held its own and is still painting highs. Unbelievable.
I doubt we'll see that from AHFP, but if we could just get some substantial increasing revenues from all the new retail outlets, and maybe even add a few cents in positive earnings and cash flow, and we could easily see a nice rise from here in the next quarter or two.
I agree, though, the environment for premium products is just plain poor right now. I wanted to buy something from AHFP just to say that I'd tried the product, and I can't find anything on the site that will fit my budget. AHFP has the right idea in trying to corner a market and build a brand in the high-end cheese category, but it's certainly a tough time to try to build market penetration. I'm hopeful that we'll see some progress due to Holiday sales that may get AHFP some good recognition and brand awareness.
AHFP - Did you catch the update on Ragingbull from Dan? The next few months are pivital for the Co. as they finally get the product in some retail supermarket chains and Costco. It will be interesting to see if they can make some headway on sales/revenues here. The stars are aligned for some big increases in revenue (retail outlets, Holiday season, etc), so I'm fairly bullish given the fact that AHFP hasn't lived up to expectations yet...
Here's the Update from Dan:
Update
The second week of November will be the stocking date to load three retail supermarket chains in the New York Tri-State area and conduct 4-day road shows at Costco on weekends. We are targeting 100 supermarket stores that are operated by these 3 chains and Costco. We also plan to increase our current specialty retail store count from 50+ to close to 100 by the Holidays. This progress is forecasted to make our company cash flow positive on a month-by-month basis.
Since acquiring Artisanal in August 2007, our plan was to launch the brand into the retail sector as a means to gain much larger distribution scale. We now have the merchandising plan to pursue this plan and work toward achieving the higher revenue and profitability levels we have targeted.
Looking ahead somewhat, this week we initiated communications with the top 4 retail supermarket chains in the New England region. Our internal plan is to expand into this region after the Holiday season. We will also meet with the largest supermarket chain in the southeast region of the USA in January, as well.
Once in the stores, we will utilize our in-store merchandising system and store demonstrations to promote our brand direct to the consumer. We believe this is the most effective means to gain consumer acceptance of our brand of cheeses and help consumers understand the vast categories of cheese and wine and specialty beers. When consumers enjoy restaurant-quality culinary experiences in their homes, we will have achieved our goal and our brand will gain significance beyond cheese.
We filed a Form 8-K recently to publicize these material developments to avoid any group of investors have internal non-public information.

Update from Dan (I'm fairly positive on AHFP now with the increased distribution and Holiday season approaching). I think we could easily get a nice revenue surprise in the next Q or two...

Hank, you ever revisit AHFP (Artasanal Cheese)? I've still got a few shares in my account (it hasn't been worth enough to unload to this point), so I occasionally read up on the news. It's done much of nothing from a share price perspective in the past year or so, and the Co. is fairly cash poor.
But, there are some potentially good things happening that may not be reflected in the share price. After reporting a weak Q1 (Aug09) due to economy (I'm sure it has a big impact on high-end cheese), the CEO notes that sales have picked up in Sept and Oct. The other big item to note is that they keep increasing retail outlets and that Costco will be promoting their cheeses in select stores starting in Nov.
The volume on this one is anemic, but with increased retail outlets, showcased by Costco, and the best revenue quarters coming up (seasonal / Holiday sales), I'm tempted to add a few. I think it could still be a good story some day, though it's certainly a tough environment right now.
Nice! I imagine it is due to the following:
Cornerstone Capital Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:CGP - News; FRANKFURT:GWN - News; BERLIN:GWN - News; PINK SHEETS:CTNXF - News) is pleased to announce that at a meeting held yesterday in Toronto, the Government of Ecuador confirmed that the Regulations to the Mining Law will be approved by November 4, 2009 and exploration work will then be allowed to resume.
This announcement was made by the Ecuadorian Vice-Minister of Strategic Sectors, Mr. Luis Roman and the Vice Minister of Non-Renewable Natural Resources (ex Ministry of Mines and Petroleum), Mrs. Carolina Bernal. Both Government representatives are part of an Ecuadorian delegation that met with their Canadian peers in Ottawa the previous day.
DMM.TO - Strength yesterday on a day that gold spot prices eased a bit. It sounds like Ecuador is going to finally approve mining law! The timing couldn't be better for Dynasty, and this could really ignite the stock. Here's a PR that talks about the mining law:

Hi Bob. I've always been lurking, but I've been a bit quiet of late. I've been bouncing around with stocks and options outside of my "value oriented" comfort zone, and have met with mixed results. I'm still following miners/resources, though I've trimmed down the number of holdings from prior years.
Still, I really like First Majestic going forward here. I know there are management concerns and they seem to issue shares at the most inopportune times, but there's no question that the expected production ramp-up over the next few months is going to give them a huge boost. With silver prices as they are, this seems like it's only a matter of time before it runs.
I'm also holding DMM (risky), IAE, GMI, ADM (though don't like the grades so much), and a few left-over POE shares. That's about it for miners/resources these days, though I'm always looking for more :)

FIRST MAJESTIC SILVER CORP.
GNVC - Yeah, I've owned twice now and done well. It tends to get pumped every couple of months, so any buys in the .70's tend to be good ones if you're willing to wait for the next momo run.
I obviously want GNVC to succeed with it's pancreatic cancer drug/treatment, but I don't think this is running due to any impending news. I'd love to stand corrected though, and am hoping we can close and hold $1.
BIDU seems to be taking a dump in afternoon trading. I bought some $400 Puts about an hour ago at $2.80. Nice call!
DMM.TO - Thanks Monty. I appreciate your insight. I've been holding 3,000 shares for a couple of months now, but am getting tired of the waiting game. After reading your analysis, though, I think I'm willing to wait this one out a bit longer. If a deal ever gets done, I agree that we'll see some big upside at these levels.
Good luck.
Sweet! Those Oct $2 calls for .20 sure look appealing. I grabbed some earlier today, and am thinking about adding a few more.
VVUS: I shorted this stock at just north of $12 a share last week. While the drug does seem to be effective, it hasn't been proven safe at this point, and I think it's going to be a tough fight to bring it to market. The weight loss drugs are highly scrutinized now after the Fen-phen fiasco. And the Vivus drug has similarities.
It doesn't surprise me to go to the private market while the fire is hot. It's still going to be a battle to get the drug to market, so the share price is bound to consolidate some (as it has today).
Yeah, I agree...why fight the market. The housing sector is in a bullish trend regardless of how these builders are actually performing. I think we'll see a market correction in September, but until then it's quite possible that TOL will continue to gain even though it is a POS. I bought a few TOL puts, but may just flip back out of them today and wait for a better time to re-enter.
TOL Puts? Anyone think the rally in homebuilders is a bit overdone? Toll Brothers is up 15% today, and up to $23.50 from $15.60 less than a month ago. Fundamentally, even with an uptick based on preliminary Q3 results, the housing market isn't gaining enough traction to suggest that kind of climb in share price.
I bought some $19 Sep Puts at .30. We'll see if the rally can last.
Why do you say that? Volume? Price sure isn't going anywhere today...
FR - Still holding 10k shares in anticipation of the ramp-up. It definitely appears undervalued, though investor confidence was hurt a bit back when the unanticipated private placement occurred much earlier this year.
Still, I think once they prove that they can up production significantly, this is going to be a rocket (assuming strong silver prices).
AMV - Even at .29, I would think that these warrants represent an easy 70% gain from here if someone is patient enough to wait for the transaction to close (warrant holders get .50, right?)
Of course, the risk is that the deal won't go through, but otherwise this is still an opportunity for a big gainer even with today's run-up. Do you hold the same opinion? Buying any more?
AMV - Excellent! Great call on these warrants. I only have 15k averaged at about .14, but to see a double on these is quite nice. Thanks!
I rolled the dice and bought some Aug $2 Calls for .05. I figure any pop in earnings next week might create some interest in these. Pure gamble on my part, but ETFC should look strong on brokerage revenues, and the Citadel transaction, while highly dilutive, will provide a huge cushion for deliquencies, etc.
AMV - KIK, I'm not a big warrant player, but did find the AMV warrants a bit interesting after you brought them up. I only bought 15k, but I thought it might be worth a small gamble. They're up 72% today to .19, though I haven't had a chance to research why. Thanks for pointing them out!
FR.to - I also bought some yesterday at $2.29. An increase from 800tpd to 3500tpd by EOY is a strong catalyst to really move the S/P mid-term. FR hasn't made much of a move of late due to some untimely dilution earlier in the year just as silver prices were really heating up. I think a lot of investors were turned off with the dilution. But, if it allows them to increase capacity like planned, it's going to be worthwhile in the long run as production and cash flow significantly increases. This should be good for a medium-term hold as long as metals prices remain steady.
Awesome! It's not everyday you can claim an 1800% gain! Great call on SQNM!
Incredible. Those $5 calls are now selling for .80 and rising. I sure would have liked to grab some of those this morning!
SQNM - I'm still holding 115 of those $4 June calls at .15! Trading at .80 now. I owe you big time, 3xBuBa. Thanks for pointing these out!
Lotto Play! ARNA Jun $6 Calls at .15. Stock up 29% today to 5.10 on volume 7x normal. Biopharm company with promising weight-loss product.
Might be worth a roll of the dice.
Good call on SQNM June $4 calls. I grabbed some at .15 like you suggested, and they're looking good today (traded as high as .35).
There seems to be either a pump or some short covering going on today (volume is over 4m), so I'm tempted to hold a bit longer to see if we push through the 3.70's this afternoon. Hopefully I don't blow it with a sure thing double.
Nice lotto pick!
SQNM - Looks like investors may have over-reacted to the news that there may have been mishandling of test results. Or it could be fraud. We'll see, but it does look like a good lotto play. I picked up some Jun 2009 $4 calls this afternoon at .15. SQNM is participating at the ASCO conferences next week, so may see some interest simply on their presentation of their 7 abstracts. I'm hoping for a nice short-term play.
I've owned Ithaca before at much higher prices (also through a recommendation by Crucible401), but I know they had some cash flow problems and it seemed like a long wait until Jacky was in production. I always thought that if they could ever get Jacky into production, then the cash flow would provide a solid base for the Co.
Nice to see that Ithaca has weathered the storm and is producing. I bought some shares again this AM, and will have to do some more in-depth DD to get caught up on developments over the past 9 months or so since I owned them.
I was also heavy on SQZ (Serica Energy) at the time. They had some home run potential with a gas prospect in Ireland, if I remember correctly. I'll have to dig back into Serica, as it was as attractive as Ithaca (if not moreso) at the time before the oil price implosion.
AGM - I had a bid at $5.58, so you must've snaked me for those shares :) Hopefully today's weakness was related to the light overall market volume, and we should see the sp move back towards $6 on tuesday.
GFCI - I remember getting scammed by that one a bit. It was Grifco, right? I can't even recall what business they were in now (oil service equipment or some such?), but it looked so great at the time, with great revenues and order backlog, but obviously too good to be true. I even think Bobwins was big on this one for a while, so it had us all fooled for a bit.
