My post was for onxx. Its price is being manipulated by reuters sources.First they drove price from 136 last week to 126.
Today,a new article quoting the 3 sources says that Amgen has raised a big war chest to acquire onxx.
I think it is an attempt to scare other bidders-or at least keep price from rising.Pl.read both the article-one from last week and one from today.
If it wasn't from Bloomberg's article on 7/22 contradicting the interest from Amgen,Pfizer,Astra Zeneca and Novartis, the price of onxx would have gone down more.
Reuters sources manipulating onxx stock price.Last week, these sources told reuters that Amgen is not interested. That news drove price down from 136 to 126$/share,
Today these sources is telling reuters that Amgen has raised more cash to buy Amgen from 3 bankers.I think they are saying that Amgen is determined to buy-so stay away from bidding. These sources are gaming in favor of amgen.
Bloomberg wrote an objective article on Monday,7/22 using their sources saying there are 3 other bidders interested in onxx.
Please read these article by reuters and draw your conclusion.

I contacted a top doctor at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer center. He doesn't think Fish Oil could be the cause--he sent me graphs of Japanese with Prostate Cancer compared to first and second generation of Japanese in America.
The 2nd generation prostate cancer went up sharply-almost equal to white Americans.
Japan has the lowest Prostate cancer.
Dr.Barry Sears response to NBC Health report on large dose of Fish Oil causing Prostate Cancer.
The mortality rates for prostate cancer are 5 times greater in USA than in Japan.
Japanese have AA/EPA ratio in Japan 9 times lower than in USA.
If you read NBC-Health article-it says that same group faulted high dose of DHA raising Prostate cancer risk.
By he way--I have been taking Lipitor since 1997--now I have Type 2 diabeties for last 5 years. No one in my family has diabeties.
I used high dose to lower my TG. But now I am using Vascepa in addition to lower strength of Lipitor.
Inflammation is key reason for successful JELIS study in Japan.Dr.Barry Sears sent me an article from Athero. and Thrombosis Journal published in 2011 by Japanese using JELIS data.It showed Inflammation as measured by AA/EPA ratio. For subgroup of people ,This ratio -EPA/AA dropped from 1.6 to 0.8.
Another article in 2012 using Jelis data showed that DHA is correlated with LDL ,but EPA is not.
Recently Dr.Topol --wrote an Op.ED article about harmful effects of Statins--causing Type 2 diabeties. He felt that high dose of Lipitor,Crestor or Zocor is the cause. He is not rejecting Statins--but feels that caution is required and new approach to reducing LDL,C-RP needs to be looked at.
There ia another product is being developed-but it won't be approved until 2015 or 2016.
Vascepa--is a drug--that reduces trigylcerides and C-RP. Dr.Sears told me that 6 grams/day of EPA would reduce cardiac events based on his research.
You are right--many cardiologists need confirmation from Reduce-It study to prescribe it in large numbers.
Anchor study -in the meantime-is compelling information. Recently--Dr.Sinatra appeared on Dr.OZ show--he is against Statins. He uses TG/HDL ratio as that is convincing to him with definitive studies.
VASCEPA reduces TG and C-RP and AA/EPA ratio--all inflammation indicators.
Kay,JL--Your comment on Pharmaepa CEO's comment-his sales up.
Read AF comments today-where he quotes PharmaEPA's CEO comment that his sales are up due to Vascepa publicity.
Pharmaepa costs 25$ for 60 pills--if you buy from providers. If you buy on internet--there is shipping cost.2 pills contain 560mg. of EPA. So 1 gram EPA pill costs roughly 2$.
Without insurance-but with Coupon--you can buy Vascepa for 1.1-1.3$ per pill of 1 gram.
Aren't providers misleading their patients?
Correction: It was Zero.Pharmacy did not process the coupon properly.
You should have asked the Pharmacist to make sure your coupon with ID ,Group# etc. are properly entered. She talked to the Insurance co. Caremark(United) and learnt how to apply coupon correctly.
Ended up paying ZERO for first prescription at Wegman's.
DHA correlated with LDL,EPA is NOT. Itakura,H. and et al. published an article in Atherosclersosis,Thrombosis journal in 2012 using JELIS data.
DHA is correlated with LDL--so higher DHA leads to higher LDL.
EPA is not correlated--so does not raise LDL.
If you need reference-I can provide.
These people published an article in 2011--citing EPA/AA ratio--Inflammation as the reason for CVD in Placebo.
I just got a prescription at Wegman's pharmacy(Affliated with CAREMARK). Intially they said-you have to pay 25$.Then I asked-did you apply the coupon--she had NOT.When she did--I ended up paying ZERO for first prescription.I have drug insurance thru United Health Care.
I had to convince him that my TG did not go down because of diet, exercise or Lipitor--but 90% EPA.He had my blood report from 2009 and before and 2013 report.
He said-that Amarin Sales Rep. has not visited his group(pretty large) yet.He just received a booklet about Vascepa. He did not know VASCEPASAVING.com coupons for first prescription and rest of 2013.
I told him that Vascepa is great deal for me in 2013 than buying PLUSEPA which AKANZ -2 recommended on Amarin message Board or in reply to Seeking Alpha post. I switched from Fish Oil to PLUSEPA. 30 pills of 500mg. cost 32$. Not cheap.
Please tell Amarin to increase effort with GP/Internal med.doctors along with publishing ANCHOR study results in NEJM and magazines of Family practitioners.
Anchor trials results should be published in Journals read by Family practitioners/Internal medicine doctors.New England Journal of medicine is one -but there are others also.
Could you please ask Amarin to do it?
Vascepa lowers TG,CRP.FDA label does not mention CRP.Have you seen the booklet sent to physicians? No mention of lowering CRP.
Majority of physicians do not know that Epadel has been used in Japan for over 23 years--and large study JELIS proved its effectiveness.Mochida sales in Japan were over 500 mil.$/year from Epadel.
In medical community--if one doctor tries a new medicine in one area--others hear about it and get on the bandwagon.I think Amarin should communicate with Internal medicine/Family practitioners aggressively.I got my prescription from an Internal med.doctor.These doctors do blood test as part of Preventative Health Checkup. If TG is high--they look at options.First option is diet and exercise--next option is Statins like Lipitor, 3rd option is Lovaza as they have experience with Lovaza. Most of these doctors have NOT heard of VASCEPA. No Sales Rep. has visited my doctor's group yet.
Well known Cardiologists told me that me that they await REDUCE-IT study--as they saw the results of ORIGIN study for FISH OIL. These docs have reservations about JELIS-- for not having saved lives.
Could you please find out when to expect early results from Reduce-IT ? Jupiter trials results --selected the patients carefully with high C-RP showed dramatic results in 2009--in 2nd year.
Good post.Corresponded with Dr.Barry Sears of Zone-Diet-Best seller.Dr.Sears sent me JELIS-analysis redone in 2011 article in Atherosc. And Thrombosis--where AA/EPA ratio dropped from 1.6 to 0.8 after Japanese 18000 group took 98% EPA for 5 years. That article concluded that INFLAMMATION was key.
Dr.Sears told me that Americans have much higher AA/EPA--dangerous levels and he calls AA/EPA early warning to C-RP in future. He told me that Amarin should have tried 6 grams of EPA/day to get dramatic reduction in CVD.He said he tried much higher dosage of EPA on his mother--without side effects.
The problem is: that Cardiologists and Dr.Sears disagree--Cardiologists favor Statins--Dr.Sears favors EPA.
One of the top Cardiologist told me he would like to see results from Reduce-IT study--before changing his mind.
I sent him my blood report for 2009 and 2013.Dramatic drop in TG,significant drop in LDL and increase in HDL to normal range. He said-Excellent report.
But I know I struggled for 20 years to reduce Cholestrols--HDL remained low--and LDL was bit higher inspite of my taking Lipitor since 1997.
But PLUSEPA--suggested by AKANZ-2 did wonders in 2013 report. My doctor thought Diabeties medicine might have helped-but I reminded him that Sugar dropped from 130 to 120 only--but TG dropped by more than half. So he prescribed VASCEPA as a subsitute for PLUSEPA. My insurance --Caremark covers VASCEPA and with coupon-I save on CO-PAY also
Hello Kay and AKANZ,
I spoke to my doctor--and he saw my blood report --Using PluSepa that Akanz suggested to me--my TG,LDL went down and HDL went up.So he agreed to prescribe Vascepa and I should get it in 2 or 3 days.I am using vascepacoupon.com. So this will be cheaper than buying PLUSEPA for me.NO pay for me--for 120 pills of 1 gram of Vascepa.Rest insurance picks up after 75$ by Amarin.
My doctor-is an internist--just got literature on Vascepa by mail.He says-We doctors switch to new medication slowly to ensure NO side effects and benefits as advertised.
So inspite of FDA document--each doctor switches slowly. He told me that if VASCEPA proved to me that it saves lives or Coronary event--then he will switch all patients.
AKANZ-- talk to your doctor--he should give you a prescription--cheaper than PLUSEPA that you recommended to me.
Agree 100%-- JELIS study -analysis article in 2011 by Horoshige and Yokoyama et.el in Atheroscelerosis,Thrombosis Journl Vol.18,No.2 is a big article with data--Inflammation causes CV events.
AA/EPA ratio dropped from 1.6 to 0.8 after the study. Dr.Barry Sears sent me this reference-- His book Zone-Diet sold 2 mil.copies--says that AA/EPA is a predictor of future C-RP--which is used to measure inflammation.
Crestor did well in Jupiter study because they selected people with high C-RP-avg. of 4.3 and all were above 2.0.
Vascepa lowers C-RP by 22%.
You are right--Vascepa's benefits come from its ability to lower C-RP.
KEY is: REDUCE-IT study early results.
Cardiologists at Cleveland Clinic,Mayo,Yale,Harvard respect Dr.Bhatt of Harvard who is supervising this study.
I received a comment from 3 top Cardiologists in USA--all awaiting Reduce-It study results.
Can you find out: When to expect early results for Reduce-IT--in 2014?
By the way--Joseph Anderson of Abingworth is retiring as a director. Are they selling their 8 mil.shares?
Carl Gordon of Orbimed is retiring-but he sold their shares in 2011.
Kay,
Dr.Sears has told me that AA/EPA is key to Inflammation and he said this early indicator of C-RP which is recognized as Inflammation indicator in Arteries--over 3.0 is dangerous. The whole Jupiter study by Astra Zeneca recruited patients with over 2.0 C-RP--average C-RP was 4.3 of enrolled patients. As you know results were dramatic after 2 years--and FDA approved the results-before normal study time of 5 years.
Dr.Yokoyama who did Jelis study--reported that Inflammation reduction was key for their study--where AA/EPA wentdown from 1.6 to 0.8 after 5 years of talking 1800mg. of 98% EPA(EPADEL). This analysis was reported in 2011 in Atheroscelerosis/Thrombosis Journal by Hiroshige,Yokoyama in Vol.18,No.2.
Some how-- Marine study-FDA literature does not show drop in C-RP--it is significant in Marine and Anchor study.
Dr.Sears advocates much higher dosage of EPA in his book Zone Diet for Americans-higher than 4grams/day.
Unfortunately Statins harm is slowly coming out-Zocor's effects on Muscles.
Dr.Barry Sears is very vocal.
Balanced use of EPA and Statins is needed.
American Cardiologists are awaiting Reduce-It study results--being done by respected Dr.Deepak Bhatt.
--Vascepa Scripts data--Adam Feuerstein made comment on Roseman Instablog that based on clicks Vascepa coupon site--he thinks the actual IMS data for Scripts may be low by 3-4 times.(see Roseman instablog).
KAY,Jesse,
Can you verify or comment on this reasoning?
Also Reduce-It study?
1) How many enrolled?
2) When is first year of actual data--2012 or 2013?
3) JELIS study started in 1999- but 2001 was first year and 2005 was 5th year of data--that often shows up in published graphs.
4) A top Cardiologist told me that he would like to see Reduce-It results-- his thoughts on JELIS--a weak study. But he knows Dr.Bhatt very well and trust his analysis and study design. He worked with Dr.Bhatt at the Cleveland Clinic a few years ago.He believes Dr.Bhatt is a top researcher of repute.
Reduce-It study is very important in the minds of top Cardiologists as they have reservations about Jelis study.
Dr.Sears of Zone-Diet agrees with you about Statins. He prefers EPA and uses AA/EPA ratio--lower the better.Jelis participants AA/EPA was 1.6 before the study and 0.8 after the study.Dr.Sears says AA/EPA is early predictor of C-RP--inflammation that leads to CV event if above 3.0
When will Reduce-IT study early results be available?
Good information.
When is Reduce-IT -first complete year--2013? Like 2001 was first yr.for Jelis.
I believe over 60% are enrolled out of 8000. True???
Will we hear about results in 2014--like Jupiter Study?
Hello,What is the Status Of REDUCE-IT ? How many have enrolled? Also looking at JELIS Chart-- EPA/Statin trend line started to diverge from Statin Alone for CV events after first year of data.Shouldn't that divergence happen in 2014 for Reduce-It--as entollment started in 2012--- Jelis started in 1999-- 2000 was first yr. and 2001 was 2nd yr. Study ended in 2005.
