Cable subscriptions decreasing, while Antenna sales DOUBLE
(in bold below)
http://www.antennasdirect.com/blog/nielsen-report-%E2%80%94-cord-cutting-is-real/
Cord cutting is real and happening in significant numbers now, concludes a new research report by Nielsen (which is significant itself, given Nielsen’s long-time central role in television audience measurement). The report measured year-over-year changes from Q3 2011 – Q3 2012.
Here are some of the report’s key findings:
– U.S. individuals spend 33 hours per week watch videos across all screens
– the number of homes subscribing to wired cable television services decreased 4.1%
– at the same time, telco-provided television services increased 21.1% and satellite television increased 2.1%
– “nearly a million more homes are subscribing to broadband while skipping a traditional paid tv subscription”
– the number of broadcast/broadband only “television” homes increased 22.8% in the two year period Q3 2010 – Q3 2012

Getting TV stations through the airwaves may seem like an anachronism in the age of streaming video online. But actually, the rise of Hulu and Netflix seems to be helping the rabbit ear industry.
Over the last few years, many of us cut the cord on cable in favor of streaming programming online. Hulu Plus ($8 a month), Netflix streaming ($8 a month) and even Amazon ($80 a year for Amazon Prime with free, instant access to shows and movies) all have the same sort of content as cable but costs much less than a $50-plus cable subscription.
(MORE: Non-Cable Subscribers Will Have to Pay $4 for March Madness Games Online)
It’s sparked industry analysts to predict the demise of the traditional cable package, even though some providers like Comcast believe they have started to right the ship, while claiming that massive cord-cutting has been exaggerated. Comcast recently announced that it lost “just” 17,000 video subscribers in the fourth quarter, which is the fewest in five years.
Naturally, with so many ways of getting broadcast content, you would think that accessing programming through an antenna would go the way of the Walkman. But actually, the industry is experiencing a bit of a boom.
According to The Wall Street Journal, TV-antenna sales are up – big. One retailer – Antennas Direct – says it expects to double last year’s sales of 600,000 antennas, which was itself an increase from 400,000 sold in 2010. Walmart even recently announced it would start stocking the seller’s antennas.
What’s going on? It seems that a number of consumers have decided to ditch cable altogether, and they are getting shows through a combination of over-the-air broadcast stations and online streaming services. “Every time that Hulu and Netflix enhance their services, our phones light up,” Richard Schneider of Antennas Direct told The Journal.
In a further hybrid of old and new technologies, a new service called Aereo will be launching in mid-March in New York that will allow cable-cutters to stream local broadcast signals online. It’ll be $12 a month, but will have a 30-day free trial period.
Still, the number of Americans who receive broadcast channels over the air is tiny, estimated at less than 10%. Most get those channels through their pay-TV packages that come with many more cable channels. But a lot of those channels are still accessible and completely free over the airwaves (after you purchase an antenna, of course, which ranges from as low as $10 to $150). And in parts of the country with good reception, it makes sense that consumers are turning to traditional rabbit ears while also getting content online. Most places in the U.S. can get on average 30 to 45 channels over the air.
thank you for your thoughtful answer.
I personally believe strongly in the profitability of this company, and I was only concerned for the PPS because investors might bail if the payment was made through dilution of some sort.
Honestly, even if it was paid for through a share sale, I would still be adding.
ONE day this WILL skyrocket
Did HLNT change the SS to pay PWC?
I feel that is being insinuated....
I hear ya.
I spend $2,000 a year on cable...
Rabbit ears make more and more sense to me everyday...combine them with a DVR and I don't know why I am spending this money on cable...
I was thinking the same thing...they only have a few months to get this over $1.00 or get kicked, to be clear: I hope they can do it another way, however...tic toc
Do you think GERS will be awarded cash or royalties because of this?
If so, will it come from ICM or from PEIX?
TIA!
Please explain?
Do you have some knowledge of a r/s occurring?
You just read my mind!
my thinking is that a guy going after a non-profitable company looks spiteful and vengeful, while a guy going after a profitable company looks...well...american!
That may make a judge less forgiving...
Perhaps not...but i have to come up with SOME theory to get me through...
It seems to me profits would happen before a buyback...unless profits are happening right now and the buy back happens before the Q
I know all companies have lawsuits going on...but Humphries is in a position (if he won this) to pull a percentage of profits forever, no? Kind of a big deal...
BIG PICTURE:
Isn't the probable reason for the silence that they want the Humphries case to end so that they can go fully reporting, because then they can have deeper pockets able to buy the stock when they release pr's?
Also:why make the company more valuable when they have a court case open with someone trying to claim rights to profits? Am I wrong about this?
If I were a judge, and seeing this guy say he can't afford to make $1500 worth of copies, and then I see the company he is suing has a bottom line of $1500, that HAS to make a difference in my thinking about the validity of the case....
ouch, that's gotta hurt
There seems to be a feeling of a possible R/S around here.
The CEO of this company has said on this very site quite clearly and directly that not only would this stock not R/S again, but that he would personally make sure of that fact.
Can anyone show me a time he said the same before the last R/S?
R/S's work for company's all the time.
Changing direction (or PIVOTING) costs money...and smart people know when to do it. (ICPA)
This is a different company than it was six months ago because the money that was gained by STOCK (why we are all here) changed the revenue flow.
Now it is not "advertisers" on a "website with a creative angle"...it is commercials on a tv network 24/7
2TV shows on Clear Channel Outdoor Airport Network (one of the hottest thongs going, look it up)
A deal with Hi Point Studios to film anything they want (look it up)
AND a deal with an international distributor, Spartan Bay.
How is this company different than it was even six months ago? SERIOUSLY?
Book value means nothing? (70X last Q)
Future guarantees of revenue mean nothing? (4 years with Clear Channel and 2 24/7 advertisement broadcasts?)
How many people watch digital broadcast cable?
Google it.
What is the demographic?
Google it.
What is the demographic of PunchTV?
Google it.
What is the average cost of a commercial?
Google it.
Is Clear Channel Outdoor really doing anything?
Google it.
Companies, when they are SMART, pivot.
If you can shake off the negative influence you will see the $$$
unless you want to buy and sell within a month...
I totally agree...but the reason it looked like that was because of the bank holiday
I'm sorry to hear that you were involved in the last R/S.
It has nothing to do with this company today, however...just like lots of R/S in a companies history don't have anything to do with that company now.
If that really is your prediction you haven't done any research into the current situation.
Can you please explain the "toxic parachute" you are speaking of?
Can you also explain how he "opened the floodgates of web money",
and also what "web money" is?
When a CEO doesn't pay himself a a salary and invests his own millions into a company, isn't HE gambling more than anyone?
Can you please provide a link for this, or is this just an opinion?
So increasing the book value of a company by 70 times in one quarter is what you would consider "dead"?
I would stop trusting those "smart investors" imo
this is basic stuff here...
Can you please explain what you mean by The Toxic Financing Issues?
Anyone selling this stock at these prices DAYS before financials is not thinking clearly.
WHY would you sell now when there is a possible upswing days away?
Even if you think it is a long shot...to bail out now makes no sense unless you are purely going on charts.
Do some DD people...you will regret it if this runs up 100% or more...why NOT be a part of it? WHY BAIL NOW?
This is what penny stocks are all about folks!
Now, if the Q comes out and it is a bust...that is ALSO what penny stocks are about...but you gotta be IN to WIN!
Haha \
One thing at a time...
new eye$ will come if this Q holds water
Good thing you and I are in the "know" then, huh?
I didn't know PunchTV was broadcasting in 7,000,000 Homes in Jamaica???
http://go.punchtv.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=90&Itemid=53
I was referring to a current dilution, which was the insinuation.
The company in all senses of the word pivoted last July. So while what you say about the companies' past stock performance could look true, it was really just attempts at big moves that didn't work out as hoped. But if each venture HAD worked, the stock would have shot up like a rocket.
Now we have a new big move. A TV station. Will it be the one to launch this CEO's entrepreneurial vision? That is for time to tell and for investors to decide for themselves.
The share structure as it stands now places it in a way that, if TV Station numbers were applied, VERY good thing$ could happen!
I, for one, like the PunchTV/Clear Channel direction for this company at these kinds of prices.
on a completely editorial/personal note
I also like how this venture seems to be more near and dear to Mr. Samblis's heart, given his interviews and statements about him wanting to be involved in this industry since he was a kid.
That extra piece of passion is what I think can make or break a company.
Fair enough, although if that's what you meant it didn't seem that clear to me in your post...
But we aren't selling widgets here, it's a TV station that needs some work (making the shows it is going to air, for instance), if PunchTV was a perfect station when ICPA bought it probably wouldn't have been available to purchase...
Besides that, they HAVE been adding affiliates on a pretty regular basis.
That's the first step with tv as far as "selling" because the more affiliates the more viewers, the more viewers the more you can charge for advertisements.
Shouldn't any money be spent on programming and adding affiliates at this stage in the game? (which is very, very early)
Let's not pretend ICPA has owned PunchTV for seven years....it has been less than five months.
So if he pays for advertising he is a Pump and Dumper,
but if he doesn't pay for advertising he is a bad CEO?
He says this is not a typical penny stock and that he is not a typical pennystock CEO, and you chastise him for it. Then he acts accordingly, and you get upset that he isn't acting like a typical pennystock CEO?
Personal agenda much?
If Mr. Samblis said the sky was blue, would you chastise him for not being a weatherman, and then claim he doesn't report on the blueness of the sky often enough? Me thinks you would
My Responses In Bold
Focus on the fact that when the CEO is questioned with real issues facing the company he is foucsed on telling the person asking the question that they are wrong. Yet that is his only response and he has no answers for the board. He answers questions when asked in a normal manner, not insulting, and he has certain things he can/can't say. Obvious IMO
Focus on the insane amount of dilution. Yet the CEO wants to confuse the issue with conjecture and lies. No Dilution. It's been said many many many times already...but you just keep saying this. THERE IS NOT DILUTION
Focus on the unbelieveable post stating the company will join the NASDAQ yet does not understand the requirements for that uplisting. Moreover, denies he said it. He said QX and EVENTUALLY NASDAQ as an eventual goal. You are twisting words. READ THE LINK YOU POSTED BELOW.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=81106896
Focus on the pathetic programming. Opinion. Your opinion. You are not the target audience. How many hours a day do you watch BET?
Focus on the TA is gagged. NOT TRUE. This has been said many many times here as well. You just ignore the answers people give you and you say the same things again and again and again.
Focus on the non-existant revenues. 24/7 programming on a TV station and in airport waiting areas for free? I don't even know how to respond to this?
Focus on tables, chairs and computers are the only company assetts. and a television network? ummm
Focus on the BS PR's that promise the world and deliver nothing. or everything they always say they will? I have seen fruition of every PR in the last four months I have had the stock..
Focus on the CEO coming on several message boards. Only to tell people he loves there positive attitude or thank you. Yeah...that's...great! what's the problem with that?
Focus on the fact that this is a share seling operation. Nothing more. Inflammatory. untrue. Uninformed.
National ethnic stations? There's BET and Telemundo (American btw)
A definite gap in the market....
Let's PRETEND ICPA gets $10 a 30 sec commercial.
Just ten dollars.
22 minutes of shows are content, while 8 are commercials.
That's 16 minutes of commercials an hour.
That's 32 30 sec commercials.
That's $320 an hour.
Still with me?
$320/hr X 24hrs/day = $7,680 a day
$7,680 a day X 365 days a year = $2,803,200
Plus Paid Programming (30 min infomercials that they have)
Plus Clear Channel Captive Audiences in Airports
Plus the fact that they can make shows as requested/desired because of the movie studio access...
Plus the fact that they are offering a venue for minority produced shows to a minority audience. Original programming people WANT TO SEE. Yes, some of it is old right now, but it is obviously laying out the blueprint for what it wants to be...an outlet for new and original programming by people who are not being given a chance to show what they have!
People who want to see a more strong ethnic representation on TV will support an opportunity to showcase the talent that is out there if given the chance. They just don't know it is there yet!
Also: People relying on Rabbit Ear TV have less choices of channels than you do, and probably anyone on this board. So to say that people here haven't seen it? Well, not surprising. Not the audience.
The audience for PunchTV does not have a stock portfolio.
weak.
Thank you, and I appreciate your welcome.
I always want to hear all sides of things so I welcome debate.
With that in mind, I would like to know, regarding the advertising on PunchTV (keeping in mind it is in addition to the the Clear Channel Outdoor Captive Audience Airport Deal ICPA has)
On PunchTV right now there are current commercials I see on every broadcast network.
In response to your question who would sponsor these shows? i assume you mean buy commercials?
Besides the companies already buying commercials? I would have to just guess and say....other companies?
I saw commercials for at least six civil lawsuit actions...just like during Jerry Springer and Maury...
Pit Bull Energy Bars and Drinks (I never even knew there were energy BARS ! thanks PunchTV!)
There are 30 min shows obviously being paid for by tourism divisions...I saw one today by Malaysia
Gerber Insurance products (Billion dollar company)
that's just off the top of my head from watching it in the background for about five hours today....
I happened to enjoy the movie PunchTV was showing too "Green Lights" haha I'd never even heard of it before....
And before that there was a Documentary about Lil Bow Wow that I had never seen...granted it was a little old...but SUCH a great choice for daytime filler TV....they know their audience and that means something.
Not everybody can afford cable...and the people that can't afford it watch digital broadcast...and ethnic/minority programming fits that concept very well.
Do you think that is incorrect?
Do you think minorities would rather watch programming made BY and FOR minorities?
Do you think Punch TV is not broadcasting anywhere at all? If so, please say so. I would love to have that statement in writing.
(part transferred from an earlier post to assist B402)
EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR!!
Wonderful Job
It's like a real life UHF with Mr Samblis as Weird Al! haha
Except real...and more lucrative!!
I'm strapped in for the ride!
IC this stock is going PLACES
I am here for the ride I can not WAIT for this stock to correct!
I just wish i could afford more...
Also:I am LOVING the dance off on right now!

that's exactly what I saw.
Current commercials I see on every broadcast network.

Watch the stream.
The 25-35 commercials being shown an hour HAD to be paid for...
Are you saying that you think that all of the affiliates that were listed to show PUNCH TV are a lie?
If so, call them. They will tell you the truth.
You are trying to say that it is not being shown anywhere?
Is that really what you are saying?
So this is just broadcasting an internet stream to fool shareholders?
And all those commercials were sold...shows made... royalties paid out for previously made shows....all as a RUSE? C'mon man!!!
Do you wear a tin foil hat at night?
Actually, I was just watching and in between Daily Mix and Half Circle there was a five minute or so long promo for Won't Back Down(in theaters now I believe) with interviews and extended trailers...
Also the commercials are the same I see on network channels in the daytime....
Remember this is free for people with digital rabbit ears, there are a lot less channels for those people to choose from....
the type of programming seems targeted well for the audience...
Have you watched 12 Steps To Recovery? The first season is on YouTube and I thought it was pretty entertaining!
