meme/Re: Debt sucks
Debt sucks even more if you're in business for yourself. It's a necessary evil. It's the reason I'm currently down in the dumps.
Sorry to hear about your slump. Have you heard anything regarding that other opportunity we were disussing last week when we met?
You have to keep up on the payments to the creditors, otherwise, if you're late, they'll take your reasonable 12.9% interest rate and double it. Yes, double it!
Who's credit card company has announced to them that their interest rates will be dropping? What's that I hear? Silence? Why do credit card companies jump the gun to raise their rates when interest rates go up, yet work at a snail's pace to lower them when they go down?
BTW, you'd all be interested to know that 3 out of 4 people declare bankruptcy due to medical bills. Once the insurance runs out, and the savings run out, they turn to the credit cards...what else do they have left?
Having worked in hospital finance and patient billing for 20 years before this job, I have seen first hand how hospital bills can destroy a family's nest egg.
Hey, but these people won't have to worry about attorney's fees because our dear President stated that he will not sign any Patient Bill of Rights if it includes suing the insurance company.
spalz/Re: Meme - Congrats
Gee, now I know and still don't know what to do. From the website you mentioned, "C" was "Ç" Did one of us miss something (probably me)?
Oh well, swearing isn't all what it is cracked up to be (yeah, right).
I am somewhat computer illeriterate, so I kind of figured that I would not be able to comprehend what you guys were doing.
Thanks for the info, though.
MEME/SPALZ/Re: Sassy: HTML
I'll post the solution on this board when Meme is finished trying to figure it out.[/I]
Meme, either figure it out or give up quickly - there are many people over there that I would like to swear at <g>
spalz/Re: Meme - Board Raiders
I can tell you how to bypass the filter but it may be more fun for you to figure it out yourself. Think of it as a challenge. All you need is a little knowledge of HTML and it shouldn't be too difficult. If you give up, I can post it here.
OK - I am not into challenges - and I really don't know much about HTML - would you tell me - pretty please ?????
I really have not visited PIMB in a while - really have been swamped here. Just posting a few responses in the AM when I get into the office here is all I have time for. However, I do peek in on occasion. On Monday, I saw a post by one of the raiders on "Sex with Feminists". I howled.
indy/Re: Sassy, Meme, Dennis.
Good lord woman, what ever happened to the old "Double Standard"? Lol. Give you guy's the vote and you want equality as voyeurs, Sheesh. Next thing you know some chick'll be president and getting diddled in the oval office. For her interns sake I hope she's not a cigar smoker.<G>
Why should you guys have all of the fun? We women like to be voyeurs just like you <g>
Now, as far as a woman in the Oval Office. I'm hoping that her intern likes the cigars. Oh la la, the possibilities. Now, if she only wore pearls, too.......
indy/Re: Meme-FWOD/Traffic
Yeah, I saw the movie, I thought it was kind of ho-hum. The one decent point I thought it made was that Michael Douglas's daughter was where she was, because her dad was so busy persuing his own gig that he had no clue about what his daughters realities were.
I thought the most ironic part of the movie was when the daughter's friend said that drugs were easier to get than alcohol. Now, doesn't that say something regarding the legalization of drugs?
meme/Regarding the FWOD
I have - it is a good movie, although, you don't leave the theater with a warm and fuzzy feeling. It is almost like a documentary.
To me, it really highlights the fact that we spend billions each year on a failed effort. The system is corrupt. If only those dollars would go to education and treatment, we all might be better off.
If Nightline is doing shows on the subject, I guess that life imitates art.
indy/Re: Sassy, Meme, Dennis:
Hey Dennis I think it only fair, in the true spirit of art and justice, that we deserve a fair and unbaised review of thier asses, tatoos or not. What say ye, brother?
I would only consider the offer if meme and I had the chance to do some reciprocal viewing - purely in the name of art and justice, you understand. <VEG>
meme/Re: Dennis-Meme-As for "June"...
Talk about sacrilegious...a woman could place them right on her cleavage! LOL
You just gave me an idea for our next adventure !!!! <VEG>
Hey, I am going to e-mail you some interesting tatoo pictures. They are, what I would call, works of art, but due to their location, some might call it porn. I would post the address here, but feel some might be offended.
Freedom of Speech/Anonoymity on the Web

In Two Significant Cases, ACLU Seeks to Protect
Anonymous Online Speakers from Legal Intimidation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, February 26, 2001
SEATTLE--In two legal actions involving free speech and privacy rights online, the American Civil Liberties Union today came to the defense of anonymous speakers who face legal intimidation from those they criticize in cyberspace.
The first case, filed today by the ACLU of Washington State and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), asked a federal court here to quash a subpoena that would force an Internet service to disclose the identity of a person who spoke anonymously on an Internet bulletin board.
In the second case, the ACLU today submitted its appeal in Melvin v. Doe, a challenge to a Pennsylvania appeals court judge's attempt to use the courts to try to ferret out the identify of her critic.
Underscoring the proliferation of such lawsuits, Internet giant America Online submitted its own legal brief in the Melvin case today, saying it had handled approximately 475 such subpoenas last year, more than one per day. Attempts to intimidate online critics by filing such actions constitutes "an illegitimate use of the courts to silence and retaliate against speakers," AOL said in legal papers.
In the Washington case, the ACLU and EFF are representing J. Doe (a pseudonym) in seeking to block a subpoena by 2TheMart.com, Inc., which is currently defending itself against a class-action lawsuit alleging securities fraud by company officials.
The subpoena seeks to uncover the identities of 23 speakers who used pseudonyms in participating on the Silicon Investor Web site owned by InfoSpace. The motion to quash the subpoena was filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
This case differs from many other Internet anonymity cases, the ACLU said, because J. Doe, who used the pseudonym "NoGuano," is not a party to the case, and no allegations of liability against Doe have been made.
While Doe does maintain a Silicon Investor account, Doe never made any statements about 2TheMart, nor has Doe ever posted on Silicon Investor's 2TheMart message board.
"The courts should not allow subpoenas to be used for 'fishing
expeditions' when individuals' First Amendment rights are at stake. The chilling effect on free speech would be atastrophic," said Lauren Gelman, Director of Public Policy for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties organization working to protect rights in the digital world.
Aaron Caplan, a Staff Attorney with the ACLU of Washington, noted that people commonly use pseudonyms when speaking on the Internet. "This promotes a diversity of viewpoints in cyberspace," he said. "The right to speak anonymously on an Internet bulletin board should be upheld just as is the right to distribute a leaflet using a pseudonym."
John Doe is being represented by ACLU staff attorney Aaron Caplan and Cindy Cohn, legal director and senior staff attorney for EFF. Their legal brief along with further details on the case, can be found at the EFF Web site at http://www.eff.org and the ACLU Web site at http://www.aclu-wa.org.
The Melvin case arose when Allegheny County State Superior Court Judge Joan Orie Melvin found comments critical of her on a website entitled "Grant Street 1999." The website author accused the judge of lobbying on behalf of an attorney seeking a judgeship. Melvin then filed a defamation lawsuit seeking disclosure of the author's name.
Ann Beeson, Staff Attorney with the national ACLU, noted that in many of the defamation cases the ACLU has handled, individuals felt their speech was "chilled" by the threat of a lawsuit -- often brought by deep-pockets corporations or powerful individuals -- and by the threat of disclosure.
A lower court agreed in a November 2000 ruling, saying that identity may not be disclosed until the anonymous speaker has had an opportunity to prove that the defamation lawsuit is without merit. But the ACLU did not prevail in its specific argument that the case should be dismissed. That issue is central to today's appeal.
The ACLU's legal brief is online at:

indy/Re: Sassy- My Overdue Library Book.
That'll teach him to mess with a friend of a girl with a sore tush.
It appears that we may have our first documented case of "foot and mouth" disease in this country <G>
Being the avid art enthusiasst that I am, I sure wish I could review youself and Meme's new acquisitons? Thier location has everything to do with my enthusiassism? <VBG>
You know, Dennis has inquired as well. I am amazed at how cultured mine and meme's male friends are. I guess I will have to get some business in your neck of the woods, too. <G>
librarycop/Re: indy708 - My overdue Library book.
I read your post earlier, but yielded to Indy for the first retort.
All you did was dodge serious questions, resort to namecalling, and declare yourself the winner, just like Kronq or Righton would do.
Of all the people who post on this board, Indy is probably the one person with the most open mind. For you to make a statement such as this, I find repulsive.
I have this argument with you before, and really don't want to get into again, but I am p!ssed. You start with namecalling and when someone defends themself, you go around and say they are the ones who aren't playing fair. They go and answer your questions and just because you don't like the answer, you harass them and say "you did not answer my question".
You are doing nothing for your liberatarian cause. In fact, you are hurting your cause. Your closed, arrogant mind is turning people against it. I suggest you eat some fiber or take a laxative because you need to get rid of some sh!t in your system.
Indy has never declared himself the winner in any of his posts. I think you owe him an apology. Or is that against your political party as well?
meme/So, gentlemen, were your ears ringing last night?
Hey girl, does you hinny still hurt, too? <G>
Well, don't they say that love hurts? <G>
Good lord, I was half-snockered when I left you. I haven't driven impaired in some 15 years. Luckily, I was only five minutes from home along the back roads of the woods.
I would have loved to have imbibed more myself, but being on the road in unfamilar territory, I thought better (for once). The two of us drunk together - well, they never would have gotten rid of us! (Remember, we were the last to leave the restaurant.)
You are dangerous!
I think that may be the pot calling the kettle black <VBG>
Indy/Re: Mik- question about the market.
I thought it was going to be into the dow but it seems the stocks with decent values right now are the mid and small cap stuff. It drives these mutual fund managers nuts because there isn't enough volumn for them to make a buck. Thats why everyone is losing thier asses in thier 401ks. I suspect we may see some decent returns in the mid and small cap stuff like many of the listings on the Rusell 3000.
I sure hope you are right about that because that is where I directed much of my mutual funds to - the small and mid cap stuff, as well as my 401k.
So, gentlemen, were your ears ringing last night?
Sassy, is dieing to get on the net and discuss our tatoo binge, but alas, her local connection ain't connecting, and I dare say she would want to lay claim to the telling of that story.
Back on line - thank goodness. Yes, as Meme said, we had a great time. My face hurt from laughing so much. We liked each other so well that we got each others names tattooed on our asses. Very touching. <g>
I do find it amazing, that two people living in different parts of the country can connect - all because of the Internet. I am gratful that I have a job that takes me to different parts of the country, so that I might be able to meet my cyber-friends. I hope to do business in Arizona, Kentucky, Georgia, etc. to allow me to do so. That is, if you want to meet me.......
Now that is said, I need to try and catch up on the posts to see who irritated me this week <G>
Indy -- high five, dude!
Welcome back - hopefully you are back with us. I hear that switching from AOL to any other ISP can be a b.i.t.c.h. Someone once told me that AOL writes to your registry (?) and imbeds itself good into your system.
We always look forward to your words of wisdom.
meme/Re:sassy- Neuro - I'll be up your way next week.
Can we put Neuro at the top of our diss list?
And give him the satisfaction that he is Number 1? Hell no.
BTW neuro, I agree with what meme said - vital stats are up to your imagination.
meme/Re: sassy - I'll be up your way next week
That's great - I was thinking we could get together. I left you an e-mail at your go.com address with the particulars. Let me know if we can work out the schedules. If not this week, I will be back the entire week of 3/26.
Oooh, now wouldn't that be dangerous! <G>
Dangerous is only the half of it, sister <VEG>. I look forward to it. Is CT big enough for the both of us??
meme - I'll be up your way next week
I just thought of this - I am going to be in Wallingford, CT from monday-thursday. Got any good places to eat there? Is that near where you live?
In two weeks, I'll be back - but doing some travelling all over the state.
What's good in CT?
think/Re: Spallz--Green Things--http://www.politicshurt.com/
First off, thanks for the links to the Green Party. This was a horrible week for me, so I have not had time to look at it, but will try to next week (not that next week will be any less busier).
From what you write, it sounds right up my alley. But I have to tell you, I am already concerned that the Greens will have the same effect as it did this past election - help elect a Republican to the White House. How can we get by this? I really struggle with this. Also, they will have to come up with a better candidate than Nader. He is a brilliant consumer advocate, but hardly "leader of the free world" caliber (hey, the same can be said about our current prez <g>)
I don't think, however, that the Democratic Party will ever return to the left again, so what's a girl to do????
Thanks again.
Another poet...
Since we are reciting poems, how 'bout this one
There once was a man from Nantuket......
spalz/Re: Boortz on P.I. Tonight!
I was really disappointed. Maher didn't bring up any political topics. Just some crap that nobody was interested in. Oh well.
Many posters at PIMB accuse Bill of not being a true Liberatarian. Judging by yours, LibraryCop's and WEAC's writings, I tend to agree with that statement.
Maybe Bill did not want to discuss such political topics and be shown for his true colors !!!!

I hope you all get a chance to watch, especially you, Sassy. <G>
I was long sleeping by midnight, and did not tape the show. Sorry I missed seeing the little weasel <g>. Really, I would have liked to have seen that one - I am sure you will link me to a site where he talks about it.
meme/Sassy - A little joke for you
Why are men like parking spaces at the mall? All the good ones are taken, and the rest are all handicapped! <G>
My favorite one is "What is the difference between a man and a savings bond? The savings bond matures."
Bush = Clinton?
Wow, I'd never thought I'd say this, but I must be more of a Republican than I thought <g> I guess it really nails it that I am not a Liberatarian. I will do some reading on the Green Party, however.
I really don't mean to belittle the LP, but you are a different lot. This thing about "lost liberties" is really cracking me up. You pay taxes - you think you are oppressed. Hell, even Ben Franklin said that it there were only two things certain in life - death and taxes.
I just don't get where you think you are so downtrodden. We live in a wonderful country with many benefits - you may not think that those benefits are really benefits and feel that you are forced to do things you don't want to do. The more I think about it, the more I think well hey, that's life. So live with it.
I am sorry, I am running on - don't mean to, but have spent the day crunching numbers and now have a massive headache.
I'll be signing off - probably won't be around much this week - got more numbers to crunch. Just an occasional post here and there to p!ss you guys off <VEG>
Have a great evening.
spalz/Re: smart_sassy- Founding fathers
Instead of debating which interpretation we should follow, why don't we go back and read what the founders had to say?
On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.
— Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), letter to Judge William Johnson, (from Monticello, June 12, 1823)
Go back to when the Constitution was written? OK. I have just lost my right to vote, as did blacks. But the blacks don't matter because they are still slaves.
While you may think that is OK, I have got a great problem with it. If that is your interpretation of the Constitution then I hope you never succeed in trying to have America conform to your beliefs. You want us to go back and live in the 18th century - I think not.
Times have changed in case you have not noticed. There are things that the FF never thought of nor dreamed would occur. Hell, they never considered that women would vote at some point in time let alone deal with the issues of privacy, pornography, welfare, etc. You have to bend a little, spalz, and you are not even willing to consider the option. And that is just wrong.
pat/Re: smart_sassy- Founding fathers
If all the judges are Constitutional experts, then why are there so many dissenting opinions on rulings?
BINGO. You just proved my point - thank you. It is all based on one's interpretation of the Constitution.
Its because once they get away from the strict interpretation of what is written, then anything goes.
That is your opinion, based on how you interpret the Constitution. Don't you think that every SC justice believes they are basing their opinion on what they think the Founding Fathers meant?
It has nothing to do with being smart, though I would match my IQ with any of theirs. It has to do with whether or not they overstep their Constitutionally prescribed authority.
As I would, too, however, I would dare not say that my interpretation is the right one and their's is the wrong one. Why can't you accept that it is all based on interpretation?
pat/Re: smart_sassy- Founding fathers
I'm sorry, but I find it amusing that many of you feel that the ruling of 9 individuals, who are lawyers, judges and Constitution experts are not as smart as you are with regards to intepretation of the Constitution. I may not lik all of their rulings, but I respect the position.
As far as I read it, if they rule on something that you like, then they are following the Constitution; if they don't then they are a bunch of losers who don't know what the hell they are talking about.
Get real people - it goes both ways.
WEAC/Pat34lee - Founding fathers
Pat wrote: And it should not be done by judicial fiat. The supreme court has stretched 'interpreting' the constitution to the breaking point over the last 30 years.]
WEAC wrote: No argument.
And what makes you think that your interpretation is the right one and the Supreme Court's the wrong one?
spalz/Re: sassy - founding fathers
Why would you say that? We have a very good idea what the founders were thinking.
Well pardon me, Mr Mind Reader - or are you like Shirley MacLaine and was there? <g>
You don't know what they were thinking - we can all read the Constitution and interpret it differently. Who is to say which interpretation is right - and who is to say that the Founding Fathers themselves interpreted it in same way.
And we do that by electing the officials who will abide by the Constitution.
Yeah right. <G>
That is the fault of the American people if they choose to elecct candidates who don't abide by the Constitution. What are you going to do - take away their right to vote (maybe I should call you Ann Coulter <g>)
mikkj/SASS/The founding fathers...
It really is more than a guideline - it should be the basis for our laws. However, as they always say, the devil is in the details. And in this case, interpretation. It is interpreted differently today than yesterday and last year and the last few centuries. What we need to ensure is that interpretation does not go out of control.
We have no idea what the Founding Fathers were thinking - we just have to do what is best for the country. And we do that by electing the officials who will abide by the Constitution.
Indy
I am signing off for the night. Getting tired and have lots to do tomorrow.
Indy, thanks for everything. I was feeling kind of down this evening and you, along with Dennis (thank God he is back) helped to cheer me up. Have had several bad dates of late, including this evening - you guys helped more than you know.
INDY/Re: Sassy-Dennis and Indy
Right again. Leaving me alone to amuse myself can be a rather risky venture[/I]
Well, there us that honey and dancing girls thing......<G>
indy/Re Sassy- Sassy Deprivation.
How can you come home from a date with your senses of observation in such keen order?
That is the kind of date that it was. Nice guy, but dull.
I suggest we tie your date to a post, put honey in his navel, let naked dancing girls undulate about until he gets a woody and the flys find the honey. At which point you may hold his manhood in the downward position, when you release it if it doesn't swat at least seven flys, then he probably wasn't worth it anyway. Indy's adapation of the fairy tale seven in one swat.
LMAO. That is a keeper. I will definitely try that one in the future. That is, if I ever meet a guy that I would consider having sex with.
indy/Re Sassy- Dennis and Indy.
The powers of the minds are truly a phenomena that will remain as mysterious as our concious powers allow them to be.
Wow, that must be good wine - what is the name of it again?
We are getting deep, now, eh? Soulmate working the night shift?
mikkj/The Founding Fathers - A Radical Thought About Them.
Well, you are right and wrong. While I agree with you that they had no idea what to expect in future generations, and the fact that the Constitution was only written by a bunch of white land-owning men, I do have to say that the Constitution should stand as a model for our government.
Now, I am not as literal about the Constitution as Spallenzani, but we have to use it as a guideline. If you change the rules anytime you wanted to, then you would have anarchy.
So, I have to agree and disagree with you on this one.
Indy/Re: Sassy Deprivation???
I'm a very highly disciplined man and I run a couple of miles a day three times a week
That wine is getting to you, dearie. How can you run a "couple of miles a day three times a week"? <VBG>
I am here, unfortunately. I had a date this evening and it is pretty bad when I am on-line at 10:30 at night. That is how my date went. But what the hell do I care - I've got Indy and Dennis on line with me.
Anyway, I am honored that you have been afflicted with "sassy deprivatation". I just wish a few men in Pittsburgh would be afflicted, however.
Dennis and Indy
Please let me know where and when you two are going to take your act on the road - I want front seat tickets.
You can have Martin and Lewis, Stiller and Meara, Cheech and Chong - - - I've got Dennis and Indy.
It brings tears to my eyes to see you two in rare form. Keep it up !!!!
