Yankee fans,
Just can't stand the Red Sox being in first place. It really brings out the worst in them. hehehe
Bull,
An apt name by the way.
As for who should shut up I leave that for the moderator. Using one year is irrelevent. I have already stated what criteria I was using for my point.
excel,
Call me cynical, but I believe he has been on HGH since May of last year and the Pituatary tumor story may of been a front for using in case he ever got caught.
Guess where HGH is manufactured in the body?
Bullnbear,
The Phillies would disagree with you. Heck Steinbrenner would disagree with you.
Peg,
The last time the Red Sox played at a National League park, like last week or the week before.
ric,
The man plays the field when asked to do so. He doesn't make errors that cost games either. Why punish him when he not only plays his position, he plays it in superior fashion?
Bullnbear,
How many home runs, walk offs and rbi's does Mr. Ortiz have?
I would say that is MVP material.
Susie,
I am enjoying it, and I have ten posts remaining on the day, whhooo Hoooo!
And if you don't think hearing about some curse for 48 years of my life wasn't juvinile, well you are looking at this rivalry from definately a one side perspective.
You have heard my crap for two years, imagine if it had been all your life. Then you might have a fair idea of what being a Red Sox fan has been like.
Remember, I do this to remind you guys what YOUR FANBASE has been like for all these years. It is juvinile, so maybe you are getting the feel for it.
Nine in a row!!
Papi gets Hansen his first major league win despite giving up a run in the top of the twelveth as the Sox score twice, the final winning run on a shot into the left center gap.
Whoever did not vote for Papi last year for MVP were idiots. They have a chance to correct that this year. That is his third walk off hit in the last two weeks.
Take that A-rod!!
20 posts and he is gone,
way to go dude!
domain,
It is even tougher discussing Yankee players with Yankee fans. LOL
26,
If you keep it up you are ignored. You already caused a huge waste of my posts last night. I originally said that Ortiz and Manny were comparable to Gehrig and Ruth.
I stated that it was in relationship to home runs and rbi's and you finally posted the last two teammates to hit over 40 home runs and 130 rbi's two years in a row were indeed Ruth and Gehrig.
Stop wasting my time with your trivial fighting. This kind of crap is why Red Sox fans so often dislike Yankee fans.
As for the crowds and rain, it certainly doesn't stop the Fenway faithful for showing up, look at the rainouts and the crowds there. Of course, tickets are in such short supply, it is easy to see why folks wouldn't miss the opportunity to see their team.
26,
If you can't even properly read the posts. Let me simplify it for you, who were the last two guys to hit over 40 home runs and drive in 130 runs for one team, two consecutive years in a row?
Manny and David are on a pace to make it three years in a row. When was that done?
nuff ced
The difference is,
That they not only hit homers and not only drive in the runs, but that they do both and do it consistantly.
As I edit in my last post, what is the point of your nitpicking in the first place? My point is they are the best two hitters on the same team since Ruth and Gehrig and may surpass them, there time together isn't finished.
But anyone who is better than a Yankee, especially a pair of Red Sox is going to get the treatment you are trying for. I find the whole subject quite comical.
Now, why aren't there fans at Yankee Stadium tonight? I have always suspected that Yankee fans are the fair weather variety. ROFL
wrong again,
I said combined home run and rbi production, not combined home runs and rbi's.
BTW, what is your point? My point is that they are better than Mantle and Maris were.
Instead of trying to nitpick, and even getting it wrong at that, try to get the point of the message.
Wrong dude,
244 is more than 192. LOL
BTW, it is vicocala, not vicola.
Where are the Fans?
Yankee Stadium looks a lot like Joe Robbie tonight, the Marlins are there but no fans are.
me thinks you are a bit jealous chuck,
if you look at the numbers, no one has had three consecutive years of home run and rbi production combined like they have since George and Lou. (And I ain't talking Steinny and Pine fella either).
And since we are talking about a duo, we have to use the time they have been together as a duo now, don't we?
Susie,
Just so you and other Yankee fans know, I think most of you operate under a mistaken viewpoint of Ortiz.
Ortiz plays a very good first base, he doesn't play because of past injury/endurance issues, not because of his skill.
He has played a very good first base when he has had the opportunity for the Red Sox. He was stellar in the World Series and has no errors this year despite playing during interleague games.
Of course he doesn't have the range of Youk, but he is very capable.
Linchuck,
Please loan me your crystal ball, I need it for some stock options I am considering playing.
Thanks.
Well,
Ortiz's numbers were much lower when he was with the Twins. Use numbers in Boston.
In any event, Ortiz and Rameriz are much better in tandem than Mantle and Maris.
Although I like Maris, he doesn't stand up to what Ortiz and Manny have done the last three years.
Also, frankly I don't care, other than the fact that they are so great you would even bother to argue the point. ;)
Bull,
They remind me more of Gehrig and Ruth for the numbers they put up.
I can't believe their are people on royalrooters.com right now still advocating the Red Sox trade Manny for Shields and Ervin Santana. Throw in Kendrick and/or Wood and I would consider it, but even then, only during next off-season.
Red Sox and Phillies are postponed,
they both have an off day tomorrow so it is possible it could be rescheduled then.
Yankee game starts off delayed.
Excel,
Yep, Rocco is off to a fast start. I am glad for him. Those were freakish injuries, to say the least.
The team hit very well as a team yesterday, but it wasn't the most timely. They left a lot on base.
Corcoran did a good job working out of trouble, the Braves had plenty of ops too, and couldn't convert.
The Rays pulled a few defensive gems, including a Lugo grab, a leap at the wall by Crawford, and even after muffing a ball in the outfield he made an excellent peg to second to get a putout.
Bull,
Ah, good old Sid. I thought you were talking about something recent.
Bull,
I don't know what you mean. What kid was featured in SI?
Bull,
The Phillies threw at him twice on Friday night. I missed yesterday's game because I went to the Trop to see the Devil Rays outlast Atlanta.
My wife and I had a great time. We went to the beach in the afternoon and followed that up with dinner and the ballgame. We had great seats, the second row from the field, right by the visitor's bullpen.
We have the same exact seats for the Red Sox on July the fourth. We decided to go ahead and buy tickets for the third and just stay over while we were there yesterday. We are going to a game against the Yankees on the ninth. It will be a busy week!
Actually both relievers that inning cost them the game.
Scharaldi (sp) stunk it up too.
Thanks Susie!
:(
But a very nice game. Beckett finally has found a curve ball tonight.
Susie,
Shhhhhhhhh!!!!
Manny passes Sheffield on all time HR list,
Ties Thome. Red Sox up 3-0 after one.
Chapter:the more rules we have, the more rebellious mankind becomes.
Unfortunately a reflection of our current society. eom
excel,
I hope you are right. But you talked about over the next five years. These Boston kids, most should still be playing and the Sox and the Yankees still have resources that Tampa has yet to display. Again, those kids
I wish them well and support them with my money, but I don't hold any illusions either. I just hope the new ownership puts some money into the team because they will need some free agents to compete with the other guys, no matter what kind of farm they have.
They are going to have to resist the temptation to trade their young position players away too. So far, they have been very reluctant to trade them and that is good and to their credit.
excel,
who are these guys you are talking about? I named names. Papelbon is already showing he can do the job with only one earned run. Lester just came up and struck ten guys out last night and is 2-0. The others I mentioned have been up at various times so far this year.
Kasmir is great, and had another good game today. I don't know of any of their farm guys that compare to Lester or Papelbon.
Kasmir has shown the Drays can win with some pitching, but they don't have a lot behind him. Shields and Camp has done pretty well, but the likes of Micelli, Harville and Waechter don't impress me at all. And you mentioned Mc Clung, but he has been dreadful too.
I just don't see the guys you are talking about, which is why I asked about the guys on the farm. I have only heard buzz concerning postion guys, not pitchers.
Chuck,
Since your comment is hypothetical, we really don't know that. I sincerely doubt he would be.
Bull (domainmaster): of course Manny is not worth all the millions he is paid. But, that goes for about 99% of pro athletetes and baseball players in particular.
Linchuck,
Thanks for posting the article. I have no doubt that drugs were rampant in the Sox locker room and every other professional locker room.
I have suspected pitchers for years. So many have broken down with ligiment issues, shoulders, elbows, etc to not think they were pushing their bodies beyond ordinary limits.
Personally, I think it was inevitable, once free agency and big money flowed into the game. There is just to much temptation.
Excel,
They certainly don't have the pitching. Of course, if you count all the young guys the Red Sox are just bringing up right now as bonified Major Leaguers and disregard them then the Red Sox might be considered to have a weakend cupboard.
But Papelbon, Delcarmen, Hansen, Lester, Pauley, Van Buren and even Di Nardo is a very impressive group that would still be in the minors if not for injuries to the Red Sox staff right now.
I don't know of anyone else with that depth of talent on the verge of becoming Major Leaguers right now.
I want the Devil Rays to be successful, but they are not at the same level as the Red Sox or the Yankees.
Bill,
maybe they should of been ruled as FPC's. (Fielder's Poor Choices)
That should require the fielder's in question to buy the pitcher's dinner and lug his bags on the next road trip.
excel,
I am sorry to have to disagree with you. The Rays can match up fairly decently with speed and some offense, but they are no where near the quality in arms of the Red Sox, Toronto and New York.
They need a lot deeper pitching staff and bullpen. They probably need at least one or two more bats.
I like them and will be going to see them again Saturday, but to be honest they are still far from being competitive with Boston and New York.
I do think they have a shot to finish ahead of Baltimore and if they have a post all-star break like last year they could even get close to Toronto, who I still expect to fall back.
Despite getting some very good players in the draft the last few years they have not really developed pitching the way they should have.
Red Sox sweep Nationals with 9-3 win
behind rookie John Lester. Lester gave up three hits, one run and struck out ten over the first six innings to garner his second consecutive win. In his last start, he outdualed former Oakland ace Tim Hudson while giving up only one run against Atlanta.
David Ortiz hit a grand slam to pace the hitting attack, which as a team, belted out sixteen hits.
