According to reviews this should work. I have not used it.

That's a good sign of a rogue virus program installed on the computer. Are you getting popups about trojans and virus infections?
Windows 8 preview is now available.

What is the virus name?
I'm looking to try it out too. Please post a link when you see it. I will if I see it first.
Must have been a bad cut, try the top side too.
I don't use a laptop so I'm just guessing what you mean:

Right click the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, click on toolbars and click on Links
You can download the gateway specific files from Gateway ( http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=m675&st=kw ) and just use any XP Pro disk as long as you have the key for the Gateway. If you've lost the key search for Magicjellybean finder and it will retrieve it for you. If you know how to burn a disk I can upload it so you can download the .ISO for XP
Sorry, I've never used it, just looked up the faqs.
I would like to know about the BB Capture Driver that pitstop says is running your display. It should list an ATI driver. The disk score is low unless it's a 5400 instead of a 7200 disk. Comcast is an improvement but internet speed has next to nothing to do with your score. The cpu score is normal for that processor but the ram score is a "wow". Your 2D video is very high. That is an older video card. If the shooter games are new maybe it just won't play them well.
"To uninstall Internet Explorer
If you're trying to uninstall Internet Explorer because of an issue with the browser, first check to see if a solution is listed in Internet Explorer 9 Help and How-to.
The following instructions apply to both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
1.Click the Start button , type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.
2.Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
3.Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
4.Click one of the following:
Restart now (to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and restore the previous version of Internet Explorer).
Restart later
Note
After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your PC. It isn't necessary to reinstall.
If the previous steps didn't work to uninstall Internet Explorer, see How to uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 9 when the standard uninstallation process doesn't work.

You can run as many browsers as you like...even at the same time.
You can rename the tdsskiller to something else. That may allow it to run. Same with mbam.
Using Advanced System Care does not protect you from viruses. It is a system optimizing tool and I believe it does have some anti-malware parts to it. Get Microsoft Essentials or AVG or Avira or some other anti virus protection. I would stay away from all-in-one optimizer programs. Most users don't configure them to help anything.
LOL...I hear you. I thought that maybe the motherboard manufacturer might have some piece of software that may warn of a critical bios upgrade when necessary. I have never seen anything like that but as "self-curing" as some of these computers are it wouldn't surprise me at all. I agree 100% about avoiding bios upgrades unless you are suffering a particular symptom that the flash would address.
Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware would be my first choices
Why would you say that? I realize if the message was rogue that there probably wouldn't be a bios update available. What would you suggest?
Go to your computer manufacturer's website and find out where to download the latest bios for your model and how to install it.
IE8 or 9 would be faster if you need to use IE. Google's Chrome browser is faster than either of the above. If you have kept Vista updated with the latest updates from Microsoft it should be fine. You can upgrade to Windows 7 for about $100.
DEPENDING ON WHAT EMAIL CLIENT YOU ARE USING, COMPOSE THE EMAIL AND THEN THERE SHOULD BE AN ATTACH BUTTON OR SOMETHING SIMILAR AND YOU BROWSE TO THE MEDIA FILE YOU WANT TO ATTACH..excuse the caps...didn't notice til too late
That's what I thought it might be. Thanks for the info.
If you have installation disks I would assume you don't need the partition. It may include all the garbage addons Dell installs as trial offers. That is just a guess.
The installation disks should have the proper drivers for your Dell hardware. You might call or email their support to find out just what is included in the disks and what is in the hdd partition just to be sure. It shouldn't be time consuming. It's just a sit back and watch install. Probably take 30/45 minutes or so.
This is just a laymans guess. Perhaps someone with expertise will come along.
When chkdsk runs bad sectors are hidden so the computer will not try to write data to those sectors any more. Here is how to view the logs.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96938-check-disk-chkdsk-read-event-viewer-log.html
As far as the recovery partition, it will format the disk before restoring it to factory condition. The bad sectors will not be used. If the disk errors continue the disk is more than likely going bad and should be replaced.
If you do not have disks and the recovery partition is your only way to restore the Dell you should image the partitions or clone them including the hidden recovery partition or you may have to purchase disks from Dell to install the system on a new hard drive.
Not that it means much, all our systems are different, but i have been running Flashblock for years without a problem that I am aware of.
I'm using Windows 7 so the combo of Vista/7 and ie may be the keys. Try a different browser and I bet it works on Vista
Using IE9 that site wants me to download a FLV player to view the video. Using Firefox it plays fine with Flash Version 10.3.183.10 installed. Plays in Opera and Chrome also.
Thanks for the reply. As usual, excellent info.
Where there any "gotchas" with the install? I was going to give it a try soon.
ok, thx
How much did it cost? Looks very nice. Raided SSD's. NICE
I’d reboot and use system restore to go back a few days and install sp 1 again. Turn off any antivirus software before installing sp1
PCPitstop still works. Click on Overdrive on the left of the screen.
As long as you have adequate cooling it shouldn't hurt it.
It's bad for heat of the components and bad for power consumption and the ecology. As far as major damage done, no it won't do anything but shorten the life of the components. Some people leave their computers on all the time. I have seen computers at work that have been on for years, only rebooting for power interruptions.
I don't know enough to help find the meaning of the messages. If it were me, I would uninstall all java from the add/remove programs applet, download and run JavaRa. This should remove all traces of previous java installs and then install the latest java.
What are you doing when you get the errors?
Thanks for posting that. I needed an SP1 backup disk.
It's just gathering locations of temporary files that FF has stored. The first time you run ccleaner it is not unusual for it to take longer than you might think. After the initial scan it seems to run much faster.
