I agree with you. It's somewhat of a club to break into if a company is pursuing the elementary and secondary education market.
What's interesting with this legislation and the political climate is they are literally working on the car as it is driving down the road - so to speak.
As the legislation is being implemented, there is still significant ambiguity on how to implement and track it. The devil is in the details.
I would be surprised if legacy vendors in this space have an off-the-shelf gps/rfid solution they could deploy in response to such an evolving market need.
I guess we'll see what happens as "Race to the Top" and equivalent state teacher performance mandates are passed and require enforcement.
StudentConnect – Emerging Market
Folks there is another and even more opportunistic market for StudentConnect within the Elementary and Secondary education space. Teacher Accountability.
In my state, approved legislation is being implemented right now that, for the first time, ties teacher accountability to individual student performance. This is at a micro tracking level meaning the amount of individual time a teacher spends with a student measured in 15 minute increments.
Forget for a moment about tracking the location of a student to and from school in their respective school bus. And, instead, think for a minute about the administrative and tracking complexity of measuring how long and with which teachers a student is being given instruction within the building during the school day.
I know, at this point in the evolution of this legislation and state education mandates there is no automated solution that simplifies this measurement and tracking problem. As I understand the technology, I think a tool like StudentConnect has the potential to provide this solution.
Think of the Billions in federal and state funding politically earmarked to improve student test scores and achievement through teacher accountability.
Just some thoughts to consider.
Did you confront him on the call with a question about his making 750K a year and why he chooses to do so?
I don't post here much but I hold shares. I cannot believe how many people here complain of conspiracy theories and false information provided by the CEO.
Then when there is an opportunity to confront the CEO with questions about these issues that have been vehemently discussed for weeks, no one shows up to ask him? Why?
In particular, people have discussed debt to income ratios for weeks. How encumbered ECDC is with debt vs. revenue. How it's at risk of going bankrupt. So when provided an opportunity to inquire, no person squarely asks a question about this topic.
I think of it this way. You shouldn't complain about our political system and politicians if you don't show up to vote.
In turn, you shouldn't complain about this company and it's business activities if you don't show up to ask the hard questions you've been so eager to complain about on this board.
Just my thoughts...
Not the same as it lacks RFID integration.
I have a thought, consumer websites like Facebook or Pintrest are about two things, strong user traffic and advertising value for advertisers.
Imagine a social media website that includes GPS merged with RFID and applies that technology to a mobile platform providing advertisers data about their customers geographic behavior.
What I mean is, imagine a social media website having the ability to provide advertisers this kind of data for their advertising dollar. Not only would that be a new offering but it would be powerful information for advertisers to know how to more effectively market their products.
I wonder if that's what ECDC is trying to do with Wetwinds.
It would kind of be like student Connect but instead of tracking where school buses are traveling advertisers would track where their customers are buying.
I think the wetwinds logo in use on the site may be an older logo used before they got the Trademark Registration approval and then they they never updated the logo with the R.
I work in brand marketing. Adding a TM to a trade name is free and somewhat meaningless.
Filing the TM for a registration approval within the industry category, if approved, yields the R in place of the TM and contains legal teeth.
This is suggested but not an immediate necessity weighted against other greater priorities in a new business start up. It may also be in process as it can take weeks to get the approval.
The fact there may be other businesses with the same name is somewhat meaningless too dependent on the industry SIC in which the two businesses operate. Such as a marina vs. social media website.
I see it.
I'm from Rochester, NY and KODAK has suffered a death by 1000 cuts starting in 1980. It became terminal in 2000. They never reinvented themselves and were addicted to film-based photography until it was too late.
It's a shame.
The call happened exactly as I stated in my post. It's not a fabricated event.
Thanks for the information. Who did you speak with?
Hi - Did you follow back up with EdgeFactory based on the information I provided at your request?

Then you didn't speak to the right person. I just talked to the Production Manager last week for over 20 minutes.
Hello – If you are interested in having a genuine conversation with a representative from Haliburton IR, Marlene Owen is candidly helpful. Should you choose to trust this company or not, at least you can hear directly from them how she describes their role in consulting Raystream and her perspective on the company and its management team.
If there is one thing we all can agree on, it is that there is significant misinformation promoted about this company. So, in an effort to get a direct perspective, at least you will be a little more informed as you put forth future posts.
She was very polite and helpful so, if you choose to call her, I would encourage you to respond in kind.
I will say, after my conversation with her and weighing in my conversation with EdgeFactory OmniMedia reflected in my earlier post, I believe Raystream is behaving ethically until I am shown facts to prove otherwise.
Oh yes – I know. That post wasn’t directed at you but just my general thoughts.
In my personal opinion only, facts will cut through the conjecture and dialogue aimed at influencing the share price. Ultimately, the facts will influence the share price. So, the better we can gather and exchange quality fact-based information, the better we can prosper. Instead of pontificating here, pick up the phone and call a video production company for information or post a question on a video industry message board. Bring that information back here and we can make informed decisions. After some of the due diligence I have done, I think there is something here. I may lose. But I think there is something.
Most of all, don’t publish information here that discredits your personal morality and values. Half-truths that mislead so you can make a quick buck. What good is that when you earned it on a pack of lies that deceived others?
Just some things to think about.
Elijah
P.S. I’ve learned over the years that if you sign your real name to something, you’re inclined to speak honestly and with courtesy.
The EdgeFactory contact I spoke with told me that in addition, to the 12 prospect calls, he is recieving investor calls that Raystream requested he forward to thier PR firm (I think thier name is Haliburton?).
Raystream asked him to forward any callers interested in the inner-workings of the technology to an internal Raystream contact he was provided.
My comment referencing a specific patent was an assumption and may be incorrect. You will not see me provide any further assumptions without facts.
My apologies - Thanks!
Thank you.
I'm hesitant to say since I would hate for a lot of people on this site to call him. First name was Carl.
Conversation with EdgeFactory - RECAP
I just spoke with the Production Manager at EdgeFactory OmniMedia. He works directly with the technology and was helpful with answering my questions. He said he’s getting about 12 calls a week from prospective Raystream customers that are trying to understand the product better.
I asked him about the technology, its legitimacy and how his company is deploying it with clients. He said they are using it with clients that incorporate HD and traditional video distribution within their mobile applications. They are also using it for HD and traditional video distribution through conventional online client applications.
He said the technology is unlike anything he has seen in his industry. It really does achieve 90% compression ratios for HD video. It has started to cut down on their hosting fees and bandwidth consumption fees for EdgeFactory and until now, they have only been able to give their clients 60% compression ratios.
He mentioned that EdgeFactory signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement with Raystream so they are not permitted to discuss the inner workings of the technology with any third party. This is a common business practice.
EdgeFactory is legitimate. I work in the marketing communications business and he knew what he was talking about regarding a general knowledge of industry terms, background and experience.
Note: I was talking with a friend today regarding intellectual property protection. Do you know how Apple protected the iPhone UI technology that enabled sliding a photo from one to the next? They purchased a unique paper towel patent so competitors wouldn’t connect the dots with what they were building prior to the 2007 iPhone launch. Food for thought.
Hi,
This is my 2nd post to the RAYS board. Just a couple of things:
1. In response to some commentary earlier today about unique(patented) vs. recycled techology, I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts to this discussion.
Over the course of Apple's history, part of what has made them great has been to reinvent disperate technologies and go on to recreate and lead new markets with these technologies. This happend with the mouse and GUI(invented by Xerox) and iPod(MP3 players had been around for years before)
Other companies that did this include Microsoft with Windows and more specifically creating thier own version of the Apple word processing applications(MS Office) and font family for Windows(True Type). These are just a couple of examples of revolutionary companies that changed the game with reconfiguration of existing technologies.
2. I own RAYS shares.
3. I've always gone by the rule of thumb that you should never immediately respond to an email, text, or board post, that offends you until you've had a chance to cool down. Usually, it will not be what you meant to say and time gives you the perspective to respond appropriately. Please consider this before other readers on this board begin to wonder why they come here.
tx
Hi everyone,
As a casual observer, I've been following this board for the last few weeks. I also owned and sold shares of RAYS over the past few weeks.
My knowledge and expertise is more in the cloud computing and data networks sphere than in daytrading.
What I felt compelled to mention, daytrading aside, is Raystream has patented and owns a compression technology that can change the corporate and consumer Internet user experience.
With their video compression technology, up to 90 percent of bandwidth can be made free for other user traffic.
Now think about the players in cloud computing today and more importantly where they will be in a year. Facebook, Apple, Google and Amazon are all competing in this space and they are all aiming for consumers who have a Smartphone and Smart TV's(Yes Smart TV's/They're coming) in their hands and living rooms all aligned with one of the big 4's integrated service delivery channels that includes multi-media entertainment and publishing content delivery across DSL and Broadband networks.
This all adds up to a video juggernaut that is already expected to exceed current AT&T network capacity by mid 2012 and all mostly due to iPhone and Netflix. Remember, it's not where we are today but in 6 months to a year when iPhone 5 has launched.
Think about where this market is going if you are long on Raystream. Although the company has no profits to speak of, it does own a technology that will soon change the way we all experience and consume media.
Good luck all.
I'm still not giving up on it. April has been good to HYGN in the past.
