Tough loss for your guys Monday night but if you're gonna lose, lose early in the season!
Thanks Longhorn. Nice win for you guys too!
Wouldn't it be interesting if they both announced their retirements tied for victories and meeting in a bowl game for a winner take all situation? Lol! That would be absolutely perfect - think of the ratings for that game! <g>
You mean the number 11 within? ;)
I'm still trying to understand what a "Chanticleer" is and why they picked it for a mascot. <g>
PSU looked sharp but I will reserve judgement until after a few contests against some real opponents. I didn't see any highlights of the Wake Forest game but the score indicates they didn't have any trouble with Baylor. Congrats.
That's funny, I thought that bowl game with you guys was rather good. <g>
Yeah, that '94 team was probably one of the best college offenses ever - their average drive lasted less than 2 min. That was before the Rose Bowl was in the BCS and we were stuck playing Oregon instead of whoever was #1 @ the time for the championship. Who knows tho, we may have lost anyway.
People have been guessing @ that for years & unsuccessfully I might add. His current contract expires @ the end of this season so the general consensus is that it'll depend on how they do. They actually have a chance of being quite good so we'll see.
BTW, I've always liked the Vols. We've had some real good games with them over the years.
Best of luck to everyone this weekend. We have an exhibition game vs. Coastal Carolina (who?). Nevertheless, I'll be there to see "Paterno's new offense" - somewhat of an oxymoron at this stage.
Gripping the football must be quite a letdown for Timmy.
Welcome aboard & Go Vols!
Typical JoPa wit:
For Paterno, getting into the hall feels strange for a different reason. For most people it's a final accolade, but Paterno is getting ready to start his 43rd season as coach.
"I'd rather do it now than when I'm dead," he quipped.
Lol!
Of course, if they weren't good enough to win the conference championship ........
In fairness tho, it's probably a situation where it should be an all or none - either every conference does it or none of them do it.
Oh shoot - now I have to go check out Bo's 1st year to see how old you are! ;)
That's true and in our case we have trouble enough beating them the 1st time!
I think their arrogance is preventing it - they want Notre Dame & it ain't going to happen in our lifetime.
I recently saw someone mention Pitt as a possibility and they are the complete opposite of ND - they haven't sold out more than a dozen games in the last 10 years. Fans in Pittsburgh concentrate on the Steelers & have never really supported the Panthers.
I would love to see a 12th team & the conference championship game that would go with it.
And good morning to you, Longhorn. Being that his 2nd year as head coach was my freshman year in college, I must go on record that it's clearly a misprint!!!! :)
Now this really makes me feel old:
Paterno is back for his 332nd season as head coach and looks to coach for another 43. The good news is that outside of QB Anthony Morelli and LB Dan O'Connor almost everyone is back from the 2007 squad. The new starting QB will be Darryl Clark, and if he can improve on Morelli's 2-to-1 TD-to-interception ratio, the Nittany Lions should make a run at the Buckeyes and Badgers in the Big 10.

Mega typo or someone with a very good sense of humor?
It is truly amazing how far they have come in a very short time. Kudos to Schiano & his staff!
Great move on B&B's part - you have been a huge plus to this board. Welcome Longhorn!
You folks are cruel! Tho, I must admit that my 1st thought was she looked like Helen keller had applied her make-up. ;)
"Mrs. Big Hair"? Lol!
I thought all the women with big hair lived in "Jorsey"? ;)
I doubt we'll see a play-off on our lifetime let alone JoPa's!
So he thouight the $4 million buy-out @ WVU was excessive but has agreed to the same $4 million buy-out @ MI?
Interesting argument. ;)
Here's a sample of the preseason polls:

Course, what should happen & what does is usually 2 entirely different scenarios!
Just passing the time until Sept. rolls around. I've seen some preseason polls already and it appears just about everyone on this thread will be represented in the Top 25 (your guys seem to be ranked the highest).
I haven't seen Indiana ranked but their time is coming.
I'm willing to bet that your Longhorn cohorts will keep him hydrated down there. ;)
Reality sucks. <g>
That is a nice poem and a real nice thought. However, just to be cynical for a brief moment - their multi-million $ contracts could build a few bridges too. ;)
I really don't see that happening. For one thing, she'd have to invest in a new mug. <g>
Lol! I do enjoy your sense of humor - don't ever lose it.
You must also be thinking like me that the definition of a successful season might simply be a win over Michigan! <g>
I truly hope he has a very good season and retires on a winning note. It will be good for him, the program, the University & college football in general. Any other scenario could become really fugly.
Ouch. That was our next All-American LB. Not off to a good start in Jo-Pa's final year.
Lol! Thanks for posting that - I'll have to send it on to my tailgate group. At about $500/credit, I'm not sure why anyone would want to take "Hooked on Phonics" Paterno style but what do I know. I remember when I attended they offered a class in Bait Casting - I never took it but the obvious joke was that anyone getting an "A" was referred to as a "Master Baiter".
Not real sure of the relevance altho there may be a strange symmetry there.
I was hoping they could end the campaign @ 500 - for PSU, that's a winning season. I'm happy for the young kids. With 3 big upsets this year, maybe they finally have the makings of a big time BB program.
I'm sorry for the Indiana fans here tho - hope it doesn't affect their chances for tournament play. Best of luck in the Big Ten championship series.
Anyone have the Indiana - Penn State score?
;)
Yep. But still, I wish him well in his new venture - 666 times over.
Seriously now, how can you call a man who has failed miserably for the last decade or more a guru?
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who prey,
Hey, hey, hey.
~Paul Simon
....or Super Glue! ;)
You got that right. I'm happy for the Giants fans but I can't help but feel for the Pats after having that dream season. Of course, they had their chances - they simply choked in the end.
It sure was an exciting 4th quarter. How that wide receiver held on to that pass I'll never understand!
Thanks, Enie. Maybe this will be the beginnings of them finally having a competitive basketball program.
