Fire On The Mountain
Jerry Garcia & Mickey Hart perform 'Fire On The Mountain'
with Baba Olatunji, Carlos Santana, Hamza el-Din, Bobby Vega, Sikiru Adepoju, and others in Petaluma, CA , February 15, 1987.
LOL, they got me with the head fake!
Damn...a little thin on the bid this morning, huh?
Just when the chart was looking so fine too!
imo
Yep, don't forget oppressive margin requirements that make even an attractive short prohibitive to the retail wanker.
What astounds me is that most on this board are thrilled to ignore the obvious pitfalls in the filings. I believe some noobs are clueless as to what they mean and some others are happy to spin tales of phantoms and demons for them to cling to. False rumors freely sprung from this board and later were spread to other boards. I wouldn't be surprised if insiders are amongst us.
You have posted some excellent DD here. I wonder why none of it has been highlighted but the PRs that are already widely available rise to the top?
Why would anyone want to tar and feather someone posting DD from SEC filings?
Things that make you go, "Yeah, right!"
Wow...now they're counterfeit shares?
The data from 9/15 shows less than 300k short.
Are you really anticipating a short squeeze on 300k shares? You'd never even notice the covering of them, imo.
Again, what if they are not NAKED? What if the financiers merely sold their shares ahead of delivery?
Just hold tight and make them beg for shares.
LOL! What if they already have shares?
I wouldn't be surprised if they ordered them from ebay just to be able to pr their imminent arrival in the US. Meeting with the developers is no problem. If I went to Shenzen, I,too, could meet with the developers for private negotiations. It's just smoke and mirrors, imo.
I doubt this product will ever rise above the black market in the US and I am certain that they already have distributors in the major Chinese communities.
IMO
Yes, that premarket review is two months old. The Chinese distributor on Ebay claims the language upgrade as well as 3g capability. They will tweak the build to whatever the market demands.

The original DAT WBOTB by tape #
Each tape is a 90 meter tape as follows:
Tape #1 - 2 18 71 all
xx xx 69 Pigpen solo project outtakes (2 songs)
Tape #2 - 2 19 71 all
Tape, most folks have never really heard a Betty Board. Until recently, that included me.
These tapes are great folks. You don't just get to hear the clang and hiss of a cymbal, but to hear the wood striking the metal disk, the clang and shake and wobble of the hissing cymbal. Believe me friends, you ain't never heard a Betty Board before.
These tapes, although based on two track reels spun directly from the soundboard, should not be confused with soundboards that have been released in recent years. For one thing, many of the soundboards that the Dead have allowed to sneak out seem to have been slightly salted in one way or another to degrade the sound quality. These Betty Board tapes are pure and sweet, with no salting: they are better! For another thing, these Betty Boards reflect the limitations of working with 7" or 10" reel to reel tapes: sometimes a tape breaks off in the middle of a song; sometimes you can hear the tape spin up to speed at the beginning of a song. There are a few unpleasant reel flips here and there. There are several incomplete shows. Remember, these tapes were originally recorded many years ago by hippies on drugs!
Over the next several months, there will be twenty or so people posting tape trees and/or tape pyramids of these Betty Boards right here on rec.music.gdead. Some DAT trees. Some analog trees. Some newbies trees. Some oldies trees. Some mixed. Some swaps. Some blanks & postage. Some European. There are also several face-to-face trees up and running. Our point is to make hi-quality copies of these shows available to regular old Bozos and Bolos like you and me. No authoritarian trips. No hierarchy. In fact, little hierarchy at all. Friends are spinning copies for friends. We offer them to the community. Y'all come!
We'll be calling it the "What's Become of the Betty's" tree.
The postings should begin to appear shortly. We'll be going in chronological order, beginning with the 1971 shows. Eventually we'll even make it to 5-08-77 (tm) and beyond. Which shows? Well, you'll know that when we start posting. Let's keep this fun. You just won't know what's under the tree until Christmas morning. Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile.
I'm making this initial announcement through an anonymous account mostly because I don't want to be deluged with email. There are several of us whose main part of the tree is spinning seed for friends who will do the actual treeing. I'm one of the seed-spinners. My decks are *full* for the next seven months, which is how long it will take us to tree these tapes.
Wait for the posts. It won't be long.

Comments:
- Most of "Promised Land" is missing with cuts at the beginning and end. Also the mix fluctuates and is largely bass and drums.
- First few minutes of "They Love Each Other" are absent.
- Popping/distortion on master DAT during first 1:20 or so of "Estimated Prophet" attenuated with manual redrawing of waveform. Some audible artifacts remain, though the end result is an improvement. These are on the master DAT and all previous circulating sources and are not related to transfer. A few similar sounding pops were present at the end of the track preceding it (IMHBTR) and on previous circulating sources (though not commented on in the db) and were also attenuated.
- Reel flip in Drums crossfaded.
- High pitched whine @ 15600 KHz (inaudible to probably >90% of Jerry-experienced deadheads, but not their kids/grandkids) was attenuated using Waves Q10 Supernotch on 24/96 fileset.

Yeah, but we are only one component of their complex system
while they represent close to 100% of current revs for us.
They have been more transparent lately, I guess.
It just seemed like a glaring omission in the context of today's PR.
Perhaps the next 10q will provide some clarity.
Yep, funny how they could not include the word "Duke" in their PR.
When I say funny, I mean "wtf" funny, not "haha" funny.

Ambient Expands Smart Grid Deployments in Ohio
Date : 09/29/2010 @ 9:00AM
Source : PR Newswire
Ambient Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: ABTG) today announced that it has ramped up manufacturing capacity to meet the increasing demand for its products. Ambient is positioned to meet the recent increase in purchase orders, currently totaling over 44,000, for the X-3100 smart grid nodes. The company continues to further increase capacity for additional anticipated orders.
In Ohio, Ambient's field deployed nodes are today collecting and transmitting data to/from more than 100,000 electric and 60,000 gas meters. Earlier this month, DOE Secretary Steven Chu took note of Ohio's smart meter progress and explained that smart grid deployments create a more reliable, modern electrical grid and eventually enable consumers to monitor and control their energy use. Ambient's node is a key component in smart grid deployments that are intended to bring these benefits to over 750,000 consumers.

Apple Peel, Which Turns IPods Into IPhones, Coming to US
Michael Kan Michael Kan Tue Sep 28, 8:08 am ET
The Apple Peel 520, a Chinese-developed product that drew the media's attention for being able to turn an iPod Touch into an iPhone-like device, is coming to America.
The add-on device, which just went on sale in China, has been billed as a more affordable option for users wanting to get their hands on an iPhone, but lack the budget. The Apple Peel is a protective case equipped with a dock connector, battery and SIM card, that slips on to an iPod Touch. Once connected and properly installed, the device will allow the iPod Touch to make phone calls and send text messages.
Earlier this month, solar technology company GoSolarUSAsigned an agreement with the Chinese developer of the Apple Peel, Yoison Technology, to develop the device, file it for a U.S. patent and distribute it in America. The first demonstration models of the Apple Peel will arrive in America this week, GoSolarUSA said in a statement on Monday.
"As soon as they arrive, we'll begin distributing demonstration models to retail buyers across the country," said GoSolarUSA CEO Tyson Rohde in a statement. "The amount of interest in this product that we've received from distributors has been staggering."
The Apple Peel features five hours of talk time and 120 hours of standby use on its battery. GoSolarUSA has yet to offer a retail price for the add-on. But Yoison Technology is selling the device in China for 520 Yuan ($US77).
Yoison could not be reached for comment. But the company plans on releasing 2,000 Apple Peels this month in China, according to Yoison's online auction site. Other knock-off versions of the device are already being sold online in China.
The release comes after Apple launched its iPhone 4 in China last week. The smartphone is so popular that its already in short supply among retail outlets selling the device. Purchasing an iPhone 4 without a contract in China is slightly more expensive than it is in America. The 16GB model costs 4,999 yuan ($744), while the 32GB model costs 5,999 yuan ($893).
The shortage of iPhone 4s and the high price are reasons why the Apple Peel may find a strong following in China. Prices for Apple's latest iPod Touch range from 1,798 yuan ($269) for the 8GB model up to 3,198 yuan ($478) for the 64 GB model.
How the Apple Peel will fare in the Chinese market will depend partly on how consumers perceive the price gap, said Flora Wu, an analyst with Beijing-based consulting firm BDA. "The iPhone 4 will decrease in price over time, and so if the price gap is small, the incentive won't be as big."
But the Apple Peel is a notable example of "reverse innovation," in which Chinese developers have found ways to tweak products from foreign countries and make them more suitable for the domestic market, Wu said.
"I think there will be a market for the device," she added. "But the market potential will depend on the price gap and how well the user experience is."

ABB Announces Smart Grid Center Of Excellence In Raleigh, North Carolina
September 24, 2010
Initial $10M investment by ABB helps launch Engineering, R&D and Demonstration lab to be housed on N.C. State University's Centennial Campus
Cary, NC – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced recently it is expanding its Raleigh, North Carolina facility to include a technology center devoted to smart grid, known as the Smart Grid Center of Excellence. ABB is making an initial investment of $10M in the technology center.
ABB will initially house the Smart Grid COE in its existing Centennial Campus facilities at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, with plans to build and lease out space on the Centennial Campus for a permanent facility nearby. The center will initially house several full-time dedicated ABB employees. These positions will be supported by the state of North Carolina, after the state's Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) committee recently approved grants for new engineering positions in Wake County.
"As the world's largest supplier of power transmission and distribution systems, ABB has always been on the leading edge of power technology," said Enrique Santacana, ABB region manager for North America. "This initiative reaffirms ABB's commitment to the smart grid and positions us to play an even larger leadership role in its development and implementation."
Santacana said ABB's long history with the state played a key factor in Raleigh's selection. "ABB has a positive, long-standing relationship with North Carolina, and Raleigh in particular," he said. "The combination of North Carolina's support for technology innovation, our great partnership with N.C. State University, the abundance of engineering talent, support from state officials, and the Triangle's growing reputation as a hotbed of smart-grid activity make Raleigh the right place to make this investment."
The Smart Grid Center of Excellence (COE) will include a testing and development laboratory, a verification center to certify customer solutions before deployment, and a demonstration center that will showcase ABB's smart grid technologies and collaborative partnerships. ABB will work closely with the FREEDM Systems Center, a strategic partner of ABB's which is also based on Centennial Campus of N.C. State. The FREEDM Systems Center was established in 2008 by NSF to develop smart grid technology based on advanced power electronics and information technology.
"This is a very important development," said Dr. Alex Huang, Progress Energy Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering, FREEDM Systems Center. "This new initiative by ABB will further enhance our collaboration. We are excited that ABB has initiated this new Smart Grid Center of Excellence and we look forward to collaborating with ABB right here in our own backyard."
ABB will operate this smart grid technology center, which ABB officials believe will enable collaboration and partnerships with several local entities in the power industry. This includes the FREEDM Center, local utilities such as Duke Energy and Progress Energy, and other local metering and communications companies.
The site is already home to the North America headquarters of ABB's Power Products and Power Systems divisions as well as one of eight global corporate research centers that is focused on advanced power system technology.

I think I disagree. Who is the target market- Ipod users who don't already have a real phone? It is practically featureless, except for the ipod which the consumer already has, presumably. It's far from an iphone. My Motorola and LG phones both handle mp3, pictures, video, data storage and games.(and they have cameras too!) I'm sure there is a niche for it somewhere, I just don't see it making any meaningful splash in the U.S. marketplace.

That's just farmers making hay. Consumers as a group cannot be relied on to say, do, or think anything consistently and, in the end, their concerns will be irrelevant and widely ignored.(Remember the digital TV crossover?)
Californians will protest anything and everything. Those consumers that are wildly in favor of moving beyond our grandparents grid have not been equally represented in the media. Go figure. It all comes down to content and posture. Politics and advertising are wonking the boat. Utes are just along for the ride. Hopefully ABTG will be too.

Consumers Resist Smart Meters After $3.4 Billion Stimulus Push
By Joseph Galante and Mark Chediak - Sep 16, 2010
(Bloomberg)
PG&E Corp., Cisco Systems Inc. and General Electric Co. are all betting that energy-monitoring devices will catch on in homes. Convincing consumers that they’re a good thing is turning out to be a tough sell.
Power companies have traditionally relied on workers walking house to house to monitor electricity use. Smart meters are designed to give utilities a real-time picture of electricity consumption, eventually allowing them to create pricing plans that will encourage conservation during peak hours. About 43 percent of U.S. homes will have the new meters by 2014, up from 14 percent at the end of last year, according to Dallas-based market researcher Parks Associates.
Even with $3.4 billion in U.S. stimulus funds behind it, the race to install smart meters is starting to lose momentum, Bloomberg Businessweek reports in its Sept. 20 issue.
“The meters don’t benefit the consumer; they cost a lot of money, and we can’t opt out,” says Joshua Hart, the California- based director of Scotts Valley Neighbors Against Smart Meters.
In Hawaii, regulators rejected a $115 million plan in July by Hawaiian Electric Co. to install smart meters that residents and businesses would pay for. Almost a dozen California cities and counties have asked regulators to halt installations, saying the devices send inaccurate data to utilities. Homeowners in Bakersfield, California, have filed a class-action lawsuit against San Francisco-based PG&E, accusing the utility of overcharging since smart meters were installed in homes.
A study by Structure Group, a Houston-based independent consultant, found that PG&E’s smart meters are more accurate than the older versions they replaced. Paul Moreno, a PG&E spokesman, says the meters will save customers money over the long term.
‘Educate Folks’
Utilities and the companies that manufacture the meters are joining to overcome the mounting resistance. In March, GE, International Business Machines Corp. and Silver Spring Networks, among others, formed the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative to sell consumers on the benefits of the technology.
“We, as an industry, need to continue to educate folks,” says Ron Sege, chief executive officer of Echelon Corp., a San Jose, California-based company that makes hardware and software for smart meters to communicate with utilities. “That is a good part of the problem.”
Consumer opposition isn’t the only obstacle: Power companies must also get the approval of public utility commissions before deploying the meters, a process that has been stymied in some states.
‘More Paced’ Approach
Duke Energy Corp.’s proposal to install 800,000 meters in Indiana was rejected by regulators because of concern that the cost of the project would outweigh potential benefits to consumers. The company is awaiting a decision on a pilot plan encompassing just 40,000 households. The Charlotte, North Carolina-based utility is also taking more time to build support for the changeover in Ohio, where it already has received approval to install about 1.2 million meters.
“We’ve taken a more paced, deliberate approach to try to get in front of customers and those stakeholders groups as soon and as early as possible,” says Mark Wyatt, vice president for smart grid and energy systems at Duke Energy.
Even with the roadblocks, companies continue to invest heavily in meters. On Sept. 2, Cisco announced plans to buy Arch Rock Corp., a San Francisco-based company that makes wireless technology to transmit data from smart meters to utilities.
Says Charles Carmel, vice president for corporate development at San Jose-based Cisco: “The smart grid will be a multibillion-dollar opportunity for players like Cisco and others for a number of years to come.”
