“We believe that we now have the team and the facilities in place to make our EO polymers a ubiquitous solution,” he said. “In fact, when we say ubiquitous, we are thinking just as popular as the polymers in Organic LEDs (OLEDs), which if you look closely are now everywhere in our mobile phones, tablets, laptops and televisions. The materials we can now develop and test are just the starting point.”

Good weekend to all!
I (Perk'ed) up on that comment too x, my takeaway was he was saying the P6 development is a 23' event, with licensing in 24' as the goal...!!!
Worth a view, Dr. Lebby was as animated as I've ever seen him, to be honest. He even apologized for moving his hands so much because he is so excited (his words, not mine) in his closing statement...;). Showed a slide with photos of the expansion space and equipment as well...
Excellent 25 min virtual presentation by Dr. Lebby today...!

Key point for me...
Because the material is also organic, it can be easily implemented into silicon foundry processes for high-volume manufacturing.
SAN JOSE, Calif. — The new silicon foundry spinoff from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has officially opened for business, disclosed its corporate name and unveiled its strategy.
The foundry spinoff, dubbed GlobalFoundries (Sunnyvale, Calif.), has one 300-mm fab in operation, with another two on the drawing board. The company will compete against other foundry vendors, but the startup has its sights set on market leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC).
Many of the details of GlobalFoundries have been expected and disclosed for months. Last year, AMD moved to split the company into two parts. AMD itself has now become fabless, as it spun out its manufacturing arm into a new and independent foundry vendor.

Makes me think of Josh Brown's (CNBC contributor) comments yesterday on The Halftime Report, he was explaining his bullish thesis on Arista Networks conveying that it doesn't matter how many chips a company or DC are able to acquire from Nvidia, if they don't have the right equipment... the routers, the switches etc. those chips become worthless. I like to believe that LWLG's modulators fall into that basket of required equipment!
Simply amazing how closely correlated the markets are to the 10 yr bond, don't blink back to 4.155 after the PMI headline and Nasdaq goes red, shortened day of trading for the bond market today, thankfully.

X-FAB Leads EU-funded Consortium to Industrialize the European Silicon Photonics Value Chain
Jun 14, 2023
Their objective is to establish a European photonics device value chain and initial industrial manufacturing capabilities. Thus, providing a path to scalable high-volume manufacturing for innovative product developers.
A comprehensive set of photonics foundry and assembly capabilities will be covered by photonixFAB. These will include:
Industry-scale silicon photonics manufacturing services with low entry barriers and fast turnaround times for both low-loss SiN and SOI based PICs.
Enablement of microtransfer printing and direct bonding technologies for InP, LNO and germanium based active and passive component heterogeneous integration on SiN and SOI based PIC platforms.
Development of scalable packaging and testing solutions in alignment with the (heterogeneous) PIC platform developments.
Process design kit based design automation enablement for the photonic platforms.
As a part of the project, six demonstrators are being built to validate the implemented photonics value chains. These include applications such as datacom and optical switches, coherent optical transceiver, IR spectrometer for sensing, digital olfaction sensor for consumer healthcare and a health monitoring demonstrator.
A multitude of prospective opportunities for the cutting-edge photonic devices fabricated via the photonixFAB project have already been identified. Among them are data communication, telecoms, biomedical sensors/detectors, quantum computing and vehicle LiDAR.
“Seeing huge potential emerging there, traditional semiconductor vendors, OEMs and start-ups are all now exploring photonic-enabled applications,” states Rudi De Winter, CEO of X-FAB. “Consequently, this is the right time for companies to work together on building an extensive Europe-centric silicon photonics ecosystem that will help drive the continent’s competitiveness in this exciting new market.”

You took the words right out of my mouth j, the economics are truly compelling!
A few points that stand out for me...
We’re going to do the same education for market acceptance. Once the market sees a reliability dataset that we’re putting together right now, I think my plan of getting the electronic polymers ubiquitous is going to be successful.
But replacing the chip is in some ways like an old four-cylinder motor car and putting a V8 in it. Our chip represents putting the V8 into the motorcar. You’re just boosting up the performance and lowering the power consumption.
Dr. Lebby: We can scale our technology economically. And we certainly can beat some of the costs that are going into the transceivers today. But what we’re actually doing is providing an incredible performance increase. That will allow us to raise our ASPs — average sales prices — and keep our margins. And it’s really all about the margins, making sure that we can maintain our margins while we scale in volume.
Commercially, we’ve begun that road. We haven’t given a lot of guidance into the details of the revenue expectations at this point. But commercially, we were in a new phase since May this year.
And that’s the excitement. It’s not the how or the what. We know what we’re doing. And we know how we’re doing it. It’s why. Why are we doing this? I want to get this technology ubiquitous. I want everybody to use it. That’s really what’s driving us.
TWST: You said you started a new phase in May. How much longer do you think before you’re really hitting the market and hitting customers in a regular way or in a more regular?
Dr. Lebby: The best way I’ve answered this question before is I’m really expecting 2023 and 2024 to be really exciting years. We go into a different phase of the company now. What was this commercial licensing all about? In May, it was market acceptance. We had market acceptance of this technology for the first time. And that’s really going to snowball. We haven’t given you detailed guidance yet. But certainly, at a very high level, the market acceptance of our material commercially means we’re looking forward to really exciting ’23 and ’24.
Dr. Lebby: Without question. But I think one of the things we’ve done so far is we don’t have any debt. And so, we’re financially a very clean company. We’ve managed our run rate and our costs very carefully. And we built the company reasonably steadily and slowly. We want to make a big impact and we’ll hire. We’ve hired quite a few people this year, and we’ll hire as appropriate when we scale up.
Great post!
Jensen's comment relating to the cost savings potential of using AI....
The best way for companies to increase their throughput, improve their energy efficiency, improve their cost efficiency is to divert their capital budget to accelerate computing and generative AI, because by doing that your gonna offload so much workflow off of the CPU's...
Confirmation of what we all have been saying, DC demand and growth is explosive with no end in sight, the companies best positioned to exploit that will/are taking market share with profits and margins that are unfathomable and will go down in the record books!
Nvidia’s overall sales grew 171% on an annual basis to $13.51 billion in its second fiscal quarter, which ended July 30, the company announced Wednesday. Not only is it selling a bunch of AI chips, but they’re more profitable, too: The company’s gross margin expanded over 25 percentage points versus the same quarter last year to 71.2% — incredible for a physical product.
DC segment booked rev's of $10.3B for the quarter!
The additional space within the same building, just beyond a drywall partition no less, really was a fortuitous moment for the company. The assimilation of the extra space, the ease of the expansion logistically speaking, existing clean room already in place, the benefit of having everyone under one roof, etc. really couldn't have played out any better, not to mention the timing of the availability of the space relative to the commercialization efforts. Very much looking forward to what will soon be coming out this particular building in Englewood, CO.
I can hear ML's voice now over the loud speaker, "can I please have everyone to the main conference room for our morning meeting and a special announcement"...:)
"As we enter into this exciting new phase of advancing our commercial business plans, we believe that we now have the team and the facilities in place to make our electro-optic polymers ubiquitous," said Dr. Michael Lebby,

AI and the Data Center: Challenges and Investment Strategies
AI applications must be supported by massive compute power, which means larger and more plentiful data centers.
The server computer density required by AI also creates a tremendous amount of heat, and to counter this, innovations in liquid cooling are developing. To support this growth, cloud companies are feverishly looking for land developments where hundreds of mega-watts of power can be supported in just a few years.
“This is already exhausting primary data center markets of its available power capacity and opening expansion opportunities into secondary and tertiary markets,” Cvengros says.
Cvengros notes the major cloud companies are implementing both a self-build and leased data center model moving forward. “Both hyperscale cloud users and colocation providers are rushing to identify high-powered land sites in almost any market to support these massive capacity requirements,” he says.
He points out that in 2023, data center builds announcements of over 100 MW are not uncommon, whereas a decade ago 10 MW was a large requirement. “When hyperscalers are unable to build in a select market due to land, power or supply chain constraints, they may lease a whole data center from a colocation provider, making it difficult for smaller requirements to find adequate space,” he says.

Super flexible semiconductors for printed displays
18.08.2023 - New composite semiconductor is made up of a water-insoluble polymer and indium oxide.
Traditional semiconductor devices used in display industries are either made of amorphous silicon or amorphous oxides, both of which are not flexible and strain tolerant at all. Adding polymers to the oxide semiconductors may increase their flexibility, but there is a limit to how much can be added without compromising the semiconductor’s performance. Now, the researchers have found a way to fabricate a composite containing a significant amount of polymer – up to 40 % of the material weight – using a solution-process technique, specifically inkjet printing. In contrast, previous studies have reported only up to 1-2 % polymer addition. Interestingly, the approach enabled the semiconducting properties of the oxide semiconductor to remain unaltered with the polymer addition. The added large quantity of polymer also made the composite semiconductor highly flexible and foldable without deteriorating its performance.
He adds that in the future, such printed semiconductors can be used to fabricate fully printed and flexible television screens, wearables, and large electronic billboards alongside printed organic light emitting diode display front-ends. These printed semiconductors will be low-cost and easy to manufacture, which could potentially revolutionize the display industry.
