Myst,
Thanks. PETS made a nice reversal this afternoon.
Red Sox acquire Johnson from the Indians,
Jeese, first Snyder, now Johnson. Are they just trying to keep everyone, no matter how bad away from the Yankees?
I suspect they like his groundout to flyout ratio and that he will improve given the Sox defense, but until he can do it, I am not impressed.
BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Red Sox today acquired righthander Jason Johnson and a cash consideration from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named or cash. Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein made the announcement.
To make room for Johnson on Boston's active roster, righthander Kyle Snyder was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, effective after last night's game.
Johnson, 32, joins the Red Sox after going 3-8 with a 5.96 ERA (51 ER/77.0 IP) in 14 starts for the Indians this season. He ranks third in the American League with a 2.85 ground ball-to-fly ball ratio and has finished in the top 10 in the A.L. in that category each of the last three seasons, including a second-place showing with Detroit last season (1.74). He was designated for assignment by the Indians yesterday.
A veteran of all or part of 10 major league seasons with Pittsburgh (1997), Tampa Bay (1998), Baltimore (1999-2003), Detroit (2004-05) and Cleveland (2006), Johnson has made 32 starts or more in four of the last five campaigns and is a two-time 10-game winner with Baltimore in 2001 and 2003. He is 55-94 with a 4.95 ERA in 229 major league appearances, 213 as a starter.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder has won at least eight games in each of the last three seasons, including an 8-13 record with a 4.54 ERA in 33 starts for Detroit last year, matching his career high in starts (2004) and setting a career best with 210.0 innings. The Santa Barbara, CA native led the Tigers pitching staff with 19 quality starts and worked at least six innings in 25 starts.
Jeter is overrated
If you relook at the video, Jeter didn't even have to enter the stands on the play.
Still, the game stands out to me because it was a stark contrast to Nomar sitting in the dugout pouting.
Some may argue the point, but he is certainly overpaid.
And I hope this post was in jest,
because you can also say at one time the Yankees.
But, they haven't won anything for a while. :o)
Bullnbear,
Oh I know you have. I just think some exception is taken if a non-yankee fan brings something up that is a problem for the Yankees.
Take Torre using Mo for two innings. That shows a bit of desperation with the bullpen and a lack of confidence considering it required Mo to bat for the first time in 687 appearances.
I think he will regret that kind of thing because he will burn Mo out, kinda like he did in 2004 with Quantrill and Flash.
Cash needs to find him some help or they are going to have to keep their fingers crossed with some of those other guys. It will be tough to get any quality because everyone will be out looking.
Rays trade Joey Gathright to the Royals

That is what I was doing,
until you started with your "stocker" nonsense.
And if you don't care for it, the door is open for you too, you know.
As for baseball, the Red Sox are undefeated in their last eight games against the Montreal/Washington Expos/Nationals. Tim Wakefield takes the mound in an attempt to lengthen their lead in the American League Eastern Division.
The Red Sox have DFA'ed JT Snow who asked to be traded a month or so back. Theo is attempting to do just that.
And my point is,
you should mind your own business. But none of this petty crap has anything to do with baseball so it should be dropped.
Hmmm,
I think you are speaking of yourself.
My comments to and about Susie are a result of Susie's comments to me and or the Yankees.
I find it interesting that you are always defending her while claiming to be a "SoxFan". Or would that be the Chicago variety?
I also comment to Linchuck, Steeler's Fan, Bulland bear, Peg and possibly other Yankee fans, both here and other boards. So I don't understand your point.
No,
why do you ask?
"Are you a stocker?"
Like do I stock stores?
I trade stocks, so that could make me considered as a stocker I suppose.
Yep, I guess I did.
Real funny how you each complimented the other on the other board. Are you the one and the same person?
And doesn't the term he hung low offend you like some of the statements I have made? LOL
Peg,
Some of you are, some are not. P40 is a great Yankee fan for instance over on the Raging Bull board. We can discuss both Yankee and Red Sox strengths and weaknesses without rancor.
There are some on both boards though that are more than happy to hear you say something negative about the Sox and positive about the Yankees, but can't stand it if that is reversed.
I think you tend to fall more to the side of the former, but there are many who fall toward the latter. HHL on the Raging Bull board and Susie tend to be among that group.
Some like Chuck, Bullorbear or bullandbear tend to be some of each depending on their mood.
At least, that is the way I see it.
HHL is primarily the reason I decided to pick on the Yankees so much on the boards. Well, that and the mid to late 70's Yankee teams that I really did hate.
I read books on Ruth, Gehrig, Elston Howard as a kid and had a lot of respect for those great Yankee teams and what they accomplished.
It is hard to respect the cocky, big mouthed Yankees of the 70's. That is also why I hated the Florida State and Miami football teams.
Soxfan,
Sometimes we have to humor them for board stability. LOL
If the Yankees won the World Series I probably would find something else to do with my time until a new winner came along.
The Yankee posters (most of them) are unsufferable enough when they are losing. When they win, my ears bleed.
ROFLMAO,
"You are paranoid..So if you think it was directed at you..."
"Do you (or would you) root for the Yankees if they get to the World Series?"
Well, if it wasn't directed at me when you were replying to me, who was it directed at?
Paranoid, lol. YOu see I can never hate you, I might tell you to kiss it, but I can't hate you. You are to funny. hehehe
Susie,
Now you know we both know that was directed at me.
Susie,
When did I ever say I didn't want the Yankees to win the world series once they were there?
It would probably depend who they played. IE, if I happened to like a certain National League team or not.
I would probably pull for the Cubs or Braves to beat them. I would definately pull for the Mets to beat them, and now with so many former Red Sox, I would probably pull for the Dodgers.
In most cases I do pull for the AL team. And I have always pulled for the AL in the all star game.

Susie,
It isn't really hatred it is just that as a Sox fan, I want the Yankees to lose every game.
You confuse hatred with the desire to see a team fail.
I also want the Orioles, and Blue Jays to do the same.
I would like to see the Devil Rays come in second, to the Red Sox of course.
Now for New Yorkers, I really enjoyed the time I worked there. I enjoyed the people and the city. It is the condensending nature of Yankee fans that I dislike.
That, and the fact that they live with rose colored glasses and can't except critisism, which is exactly why I do it.
Peg,
"...they should of lost those games..." - we really don't know that about yesterday's game, now do we. The pen was never pressed into service."
Peg, yes we do, because the pen not being used showed it's weakness. If it had not been overused, someone probably would of been in the game to take over for Wang.
Peg,
Well they should of lost those games because of their bullpen. The Red Sox would of lost last night's with the way the bullpen played (X Papelbon, that is) except Atlanta had an even worse bullpen.
DD,
Especially while playing in a National League Park! They do have a deep lineup though.
Swweeeeeeeeeep!
Red Sox win, 10-7. Papelbon picks up 23rd save after coming in with two on in the eighth.
The Red Sox pick up a game on everyone else in the division.
speaking of drawing crowds,
The Braves have drawn an average of 20,000 more fans with the Red Sox in town this weekend.
Papelbon in after the Red Sox score six runs with two outs in the eighth.
9-7 Boston top of the ninth.
Ryan Zimmerman is the bomb!
Or should I say hit a bomb out to left. Too bad for Wang who pitched a great game, but Torre left him out there for an inning to long.
Gnats win 3-2.
Ric,
go use up all the runs the nats have in em for the next four days today. Ok? LOL
Have fun!
I am going to the Devil Rays and Braves game next Saturday.
All star voting
I think it is time to take the voting out of the fans hands and put it with the managers. Not allow them to vote for their own players.
This year the Red Sox and Yankees hold 7 of the 8 position players on the team. While they may be the best two teams, they don't hold all the all-stars in the league.
This creates problems for the managers in filling out the rest of the roster as well, as the most deserving players on other teams often get knocked out of the classic because of the rules forcing one player from each team coupled with the above-mentioned voting.
While I enjoy seeing Red Sox in the classic, I don't think players such as Cano, Varitek, Jeter or Damon belong as starters. Big Papi has only played four games at first this year, and while arguably the leagues' best hitter shouldn't be the first base choice either.
Are the Red Sox and Yankees the only teams with all-star caliber players? I don't think so.
Thanks Susie!
Yankees DFA Small...

So much for his ten straight wins last year.
ric,
congrats on the win, it is always nice to see the Yankees lose. Best of wishes for tomorrow!
Papelbon gets 22 save,
with another 1-2-3 inning. Red Sox win 5-3.
Ortiz goes deep, Sox lead 5-1
Beckett looking good today, another young Sox pitcher. If he can only develop some consistancy this pitching staff could look good years into the future.
They need to get thru this year first though.
Thanks, and she is quite the lady. eom
Kiss it Susie!
A-rod,
Shouldn't of won the MVP. Ortiz should have first of all. Not playing defense very often is better than playing poor defense.
And in the second place the MVP has nothing to do with my post. As usual you throw red herrings into every comment to try to deflect the conversation.
Wrong again?
And how is that? You either hope he succeeds or not, right?
I gave you my opinion on both depending which way you felt.
You have become nothing but confrontational and rude. Please ignore me and please don't respond to my posts.
Thank you
Susie,
Again, I agree that they have done decently considering their injuries, so have the Sox.
I don't know if you still read Raging Bull, but I discussed with P40 how the young, hungry guys would probably make the Yankees stronger than complacent, overpaid "stars".
As for A-rod, he just doesn't seem to thrive in big pressure situations. Maybe he will grow into it, but I think he is in a can't win situation in New York unless or until the Yankees win another pennant.
Susie,
Well in that regard I think we both agree. I just figure you would want Randy to succeed because the money is already spent and he is there. If you don't want him to succeed then we have that in common also. LOL
Susie,
He is getting to the point he is over the hill. I know you want to believe otherwise as he has another year on his contract, but he isn't aging gracefully.
He didn't need to prove anything, Perez has had his number over his career. I think it is much more about his dislike of Perez than standing up for Jorge.
Mussina has shown some troubling signs his last three starts too. Despite doing a good job staying in the hunt to this point, I think the Yankees could be in some serious trouble.
The Red Sox have been struggling too, but they are getting some of their young pitchers into the mix before the pennant race heats up and they are responding.
That is a good thing with Wakefield having back problems, Clement shoulder problems and Wells most likely done. Timlin is also starting to feel his age with his shoulder strain despite looking good tonight.
I think we both still need to keep a wary eye on Toronto until they prove otherwise.
Red Sox Young guns come out blazing,
A great job by young Jon Lester and another lights out save by Papelbon. These guys should be great for years. I certainly hope so.
Papelbon should get serious Cy Young as well as ROY consideration if he continues the rest of the season the way he has to date. 21 saves, 1-1 record and has given up only ONE run the entire year of his own.
