Story....................................Katy, Texas 1962
Applied Research & Development Co. was owned by a really intelligent, off-beat fellow name of David Crowell.
He designed a series of marsh buggies that utilized many drive components from surplus WW2 4X's and jeeps. David bought 500 or so of them and began in...
I was rebuilding 4X rear ends at night after work...alone...winter time.
My 52 Ford SW wouldn't start so I hooked a F-Buggy to the front bumper by the buggy's winch cable. The F buggy had airplane tires with cleats, a 4cyl.aircooled Wisconsin and 6 gears forward. Open cab, no body construction...throttle lever mounted on steering tube.
I put her in first/high and idle, the cable tight, pulled the sta.wagon along, climbed off the buggy nimbly and hopped in the station wagon as it toodled by...Large, Large field by the way.
I put the SW in 2nd, pulled out the choke a bit let out the clutch and it started as always...idling fast...OK
Got out of the station wagon at a fast walk...ran up to the buggy, and instead of threading between those huge wheels figured I would just reach through and flip the throttle lever down, which I did...very hard...breaking the stop and opening the throttle wide. The buggy ran over my foot, the station wagon knocked me 6 feet and they took off at about 12 mph.
Now these buggies were built to go through anything and they had a ram center frame on them of 10" steel pipe, four wheel drive etc. I ran after them and believe it or not, that buggy, which was about to tear through 10 or 15 houses, hit the ONLY tree, a large oak, in that entire 1/4 mile square field and climbed into the lower branches, the station wagon ramming it from behind.
David was furious, I could tell...he was a buddhist type and shaved all his hair. He was bright red from the top down. He sent me to a doctor and then home for a long period of time to "Think About It"
It was soooooo stupid.
I was one of his prize mechanics/design assistants and he was really upset.

RELIG at RB was started as a trap and still functions as one.
I don't think it would fit in here. There are a few zealots everywhere, and fewer here, thank goodness.
God?(God) and Bible are OK...God?(God) would serve alone I would think.

Your typical "numb-nuts" Christian radical's reaction to something they don't know a thing about:
But the event was questioned by some Washington politicians who thought it was inappropriate for public schools to send students to hear a religious leader. As a result, private donors were accepted to cover the cost of the buses the students took to Portland.
As students filed into the coliseum, they were met by a handful of Christian protesters who held signs proclaiming "Jesus Gives Eternal Life." One man shouted denunciations of the Dalai Lama.
During his talk, the Dalai Lama largely steered clear of religious themes. At one point, he said that practicing religious beliefs can help develop a warm-hearted, compassionate person who can help change the world. But he also said it was possible to develop those traits without religious beliefs

paule...a lot of truth in that. Breitenbush hot springs does all their heating with geothermal. Believe it or not, the Oregon State whatever with food prep rules, will not let us wash dishes with 210 deg F. water from the earth. And we have to offer chlorinted water for drinking purposes. Our wate turbine just generates 35 KW MAX and we have some100 structures, cabins and homes...so we use one or two light bulbs, fluro, no electric appliances except in the main kitchen and back up diesel power for peak loads.

Red onions $2.00 lb.
An orange costs a dollar.
Broccoli? It was always the cheaper green vegetable.
Parsnips $2.00 lb... good lord, a root vegetable?
What is going on?
Other grocery prices haven't risen much.

Probably not. Personalities and styles take a lot of practice and you must be watchful all the time...ask me!
At the last there I was posting 5 different people at RB and even my best friends and e-mail/telephone cohorts were not privvy to all of them. It was VERY VERY difficult and required a lot of notes, print outs, a constant clearing of cache etc.etc.etc. A "heads up" as to who you were and leaving out details like 3 dot...journalism, common hyphenations, favorite spellings (favorite-favourite) on and on and on. The signature style, introductory style...no paragraphs...run togethers and paragraphed, punctuation mark usage, and sentence constructions were all something you had to take into consideration and also subject matter in and of itself, who you recognized and where you posted...times were critical also. One never posted when the other posted...too much time association. When you did post simultaneously, you had to in and out cache constantly and watch carefully not to confuse the two. DGM, my cross dressing gay alias did not like one of my other aliases but restrained herself...since she was so miserable, she just wanted to get along with everyone but she made thin remarks just the same.
Shifty field out there. Very time consuming with RB server speeds. Another thing, here at IHub is a real finance crowd that functions and posts during Market Hours whereas at RB the party went on 24 hours per day. My famous call to argue with a bottle of Bushmills would be taken up at 3 AM by 6 or 8 people.
I had huge battles going on at boards you folks never heard of...and all my aliases were people you never saw post...at the height there I had 12 aliases active.
Of course, I never posted any stock tips, scams, pumps and dumps type stuff nor did I venture any opinions on stocks. I lurked and posted elsewhere. The battle boards on Scam pennys like NESS were fun. Then I would poo poo the stock. Of course, anyone betting on God putting oil under Israel for these goofballs to "discover" is not a scam stock the SEC would take much interest in or really want to get involved in. The SEC probably sent the boilerrooms over there to help hype THOSE saps. Hahahahahahahahaaa
I think I will post this...other than Joe, I didn't mention any names. Hahahahhahahahahahaaa
Here, it isn't the same type environment. Admin has a tighter rein, people are closer and there are very few morons, riff-raff, fleas, lice and mean people roaming the boards. (Where does Joe fit in?)

Fastidiousness is not a good attitude for a road clean-up participant. These are normal items that people deal with everyday.
I think the problem is in these enormous roadside rest stops that cost a fortune and provide multiple services, overnight parking and dog walking areas etc. Yet because of cost, they build them few and far between and NOT on alternative highways for the most part.
A rest stop with straight drive thru...15 minute parking, bathrooms, telephone and water...nothing else...would be cheap and more in line with motorist's needs. Dirt Cheap! and downright HANDY...Moron bureaucrats.
P.S. Why can't we have bidet type-toilets? Sure great for when the toilet paper is gone. Women see them as god-sends.

Guerrilla Solar Manifesto
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all energy is freely and democratically provided by Nature, that utilities both public and private have no monopoly on the production and distribution of energy, that this century s monopolization of energy by utilities threatens the health of our environment and the very life of our planet.
We, the Solar Guerrillas of this planet, therefore resolve to place energy made from sunshine, wind, and falling water on this planet's utility grids with or without permission from utilities or governments.
We resolve to share this energy with our neighbors without regard for financial compensation.
We further resolve that our renewable energy systems will be safe and will not harm utility workers, our neighbors, or our environment.

Last year I asked my utility what it would take to convert to net metering. They responded, "The interconnection of residential renewable resource generation to our system is fairly new and uncommon, so we are in a learning process. I am working with the various departments that have a part in making this happen."
Since I did not wish to be a test case, I went guerrilla.
The system I use has the capacity to supply most of our needs. All lamps are compact fluorescents, purchased from our local utility at a very low cost. I bought a Sears high efficiency fridge, and use propane for our stove and dryer. The house is heated by wood, with oil as backup.
I have also found a unique way of dealing with some of the phantom loads around the house. I use inexpensive converters (24 to 12 V) connected to the battery bank to power devices such as the answering machine, intercom, and clocks. This works for all devices that require a transformer to convert AC to DC. Our electrical energy consumption is about 10 KWH per day.
Our needs are met with thirty-two Kyocera KC-120s, which give us plenty of energy. I can often use the air conditioner at night, and still not use more kilowatt-hours than I put back into the grid. With this amount of solar energy, getting the energy from the arrays to the batteries was a challenge. I decided to use two pairs of 250 MCM cables and two fan-cooled Trace C-40 controllers running at a max of 55 amps each. I have one 24 volt 1,180 amp-hour Deka flooded battery, which supplies enough backup for three sunless days. The inverters are Trace SW4024s, one in use and one as a spare. I monitor my system with two C-40 displays and a TriMetric 2020.
With the Trace set for "sell," my meter spins backwards at a rate of 2 KWH on a good day. Combining solar energy with energy efficient appliances and lighting has reduced our average bill from $180–250 per month to about $20 per month.
Even though there is a net metering law in my state, my local utility is using a data collection system that makes it impossible to net meter. They use wireless communications with their meters, and the system cannot recognize which way the meter is spinning. The more I use the grid for my energy, the faster my meter spins to the right and the faster my bill goes up. The more energy I put back into the grid, the faster the meter spins to the left and—guess what?—the faster my bill goes up.
The counting device doesn’t know which way the meter spins; all it knows is how many hash marks pass by. So I’m paying for any grid energy I use, AND for any solar energy I send back into the grid. Fortunately, I’ve reduced my consumption radically, and most of my usage is covered directly by my array.
For now I’m happy to have reduced my utility bills, and I enjoy the fact that I am utilizing natural pollution-free resources to generate my energy. When my utility company makes it easier to go through the process, I might go public with my RE system. In the meantime, I’m content to be a solar guerrilla.

As you can see from the picture, twenty-four beautiful Siemens SR100 panels now adorn the roof of my semi-rural home overlooking a small city in the valley below. A Trace 5548 inverter, twenty-four Trojan L-16s topped with Hydrocaps, a Trace C40 charge controller, and a Cruising E-Meter round out one fine system. If the grid goes down the C40 will regulate the battery voltage.
The sun shines incessantly here all summer long. It is a thing of beauty to watch the utility meter slow early in the morning, come to a standstill, and then begin to spin rapidly backwards. And to think we're helping out with the peak summer air conditioning load, too!
That's why I'm a solar guerrilla--it makes too much sense not to be. With today's ultra-safe and sophisticated inverters, it's a no-brainer, win-win situation for both homeowner and utility.
So why does the bureaucracy fight grid-interties? Not because of safety. Not because of lack of mutual advantage. But because of POWER (pun intended). 100% dependence ultimately yields 100% control or power. But now that we can generate our own electricity freely from the sun, we can take that control back into our own hands.
Now when those occasional power outages come due to storms or equipment failure (let alone whatever Y2K holds in store for us), my family will just yawn and enjoy our independence, giving the power company nary a thought.
The process of retrofitting an almost all-electric home has also been a joy. It began last fall with swapping out all those wasteful, heat-generating incandescent bulbs and fixtures, buying an efficient refrigerator and washer, and converting other appliances to natural gas. Next on my list is a solar hot water unit, as soon as the funds are available.
My interest in solar goes back two decades, and flipping the switch this summer was a dream come true. With degrees from two of the nation's premier engineering schools (in Cambridge and Pittsburgh), I love the science and the exquisite engineering that turns photons from the sun into moving electrons that power my home here on earth--cleanly and wholesomely.
This is all part of what God intended when he said, "Have dominion over the earth"--exercising wise, careful, renewable stewardship over the wonderful resources he has so graciously given us. Sola Deo gloria!
