Micro.......OPAL standards are for SEDs, not for TPMS.
And IF you store the keys in the BIOS, they are not safe since you can plug out the batterie and reset the BIOS.

Hi Ramsey re ESC
"If true, this probably means Seagate procured TDM only, no ETS. I have not seen a platform w/ SED w/ TDM and no ETS. I assume TDM is presented in the ESC format, just no TPM functions."
ETDM is a plugin in ESC while ETS is a full set of programs/functions including vault, PIM and so on. ETDM can't be separated from ESC so this notebooks have to come with ESC at least.

GoKite.....perhaps I can answer this instead of Ramsey.
There are several BIOS management tools out there to centrally manage the BIOS settings. HP for example has one, but the local TPM management is made via IFX Protect tools and the server sided Management via the IFX server.
Similar at Dell with Altiris (to manage BIOS settings) and Wave ETS (client) and ERAS (server).
So having a central BIOS management software is good for Wave since turned on TPMs can be managed with ERAS...
Have a nice day

Hi GoKite!
RE: compatibility
Its not a hardware compatibility problem, since you can plug the SEDs in every laptop. The problem is you'll have to modify the BIOS of the machine to be able to make a proper preboot authentification and to initialise the drive.
It's not really a problem, but it has to be done....

Loss, BE or profit?
So BE is nearly impossible, since a few bucks over BE would be a profit...

This has nothing to do with the device. It's all about the software. On 64 bit architectures (computers all are 64 bit capable, it depends on the OS you use) you can adress more than 4GB RAM and therefore 3D imaginery will run more efficient, IMO.

Hi all....re: TPM activation
A long time ago, I posted, that it would be necessary to be able to turn the TPM on without touching the BIOS directly. With HP Protect Tools you can modify the BIOS and turn the TPM on with a NORMAL Windows application (Protect Tools). This is much easier since folks are used to work with Windows applications.
After this step the machine boots automatically and you'll be able to take ownership of the TPM.
I think it shouldn't be that difficult to develop the same feature within ETS, especially on Dell and Acer machines, since Wave is already deeply integrated in the BIOS. (think about preboot authentification ETDM).
Furthermore this feature would strengthen our relationsship with these OEMs.
Nice sunday all

DD.....a year ago Lenovo sold the Seagate FDE in some of their notebook models without software. At this point Waves ETDM was the only choice to manage the drives, that’s why they agreed to upsell ETS on demand of the customer.
ETS was never bundled, nor was an agreement to sell ETDM actively.
RE: competition
Of course we have competition and that’s good! But I guess most of you are looking in the wrong direction. We are bundled with Dell and others and we are the only software which can work with all OEMs.
We are not competing with HP (IFX) or Lenovo, they are Dell competitors. Both HP and Lenovo chose to develop their own proprietary solution, so we have lost TWO OEMs.
Dell is dependent on Wave to manage the complexity of their security offerings, like HP is dependent on Infineon. But HP has enough power to kick Infineon out of their machines and don’t forget, Infineon is HPs number one chip supplier (TPM is only a small part of the IFX product portfolio). Dell chose to pay Wave more money and this fact tells the tale, since Dell wouldn’t pay one cent more, if they didn’t need ETS.
We just need to sell to 20% of all Dell TPM customers to get rich, think about that. The more TPM and SED machine are activated in an enterprise environment, the more need for centralized management will occur. At this point in time Waves has the only solution to manage both, TPMs and SED with one piece of software (ERAS).
In my view our competitors are still software based security developers and companies like Winmagic, Secude, Pointsec and others.
BR

DD....Doma is right!
At least there is no SED support for now, IMO....
BR
ISPRO
Doma.....new is their "Server Password Manager", which manages the TPMs in the LAN. Similar to our ERAS but without SED management.
So now for the competition.
TPM management:
- HP (Embedded Security Subsystem (Infineon Suite)- Infineon Server)
- Lenovo (Client and Server but only for Lenovo)
SED management
- Secude
- Winmagic

oh well......
This technology will change the medical diagnostic world, IMO. I doubt anybody will be able to buy IMGG for only 500M, IF we get FDA approval and the production has started. Our first deals will alert the financial world, that this product is a real winner....

Kimble...right on and BTW, normally the buyout price is well above 10x revs, in emerging industries.

DD....sorry, I got it wrong. I thought you mean they only sell in Australia. Acer is our customer now. It's only a matter of time when their hole product line comes with ETS, IMO.

I think most competitors are well aware of the potential of our Dominion and an FDA approval with the beginning of the production of the device would make a buyout scenario more than possible.
I don't think the buyout price would be under 500M, IMO.

Doma....The difference bewteen the Lite and the full ETS wasn't that significant, if I remember correctly (more faults and network faults, i.e.)
Well we wouldn't be at 4M, if SKS wouldn't have decided to go this way, since Wave couldn't have reached the necessary updates. So for me I feel comfortable about reaching BE with bundling, since that the only static (nearby) here.
To floot the market with centrally unmanaged software is the correct way to sell Server management tools in aftersales.
What SKS and his sales team got wrong is, that they meant the software would sell itself like virusscanners. The difference here is, there is no OBVIOUS need for ETS as it is for antivirusapps. So the SALES team (Wave and Dells) HAVE to SELL direct to the customer.
CALL-PRESENT-OFFER-SALE like hundrets of thousands of other companies, WAVE has to AGRESSIVELY market the product. Perhaps with SEDs the need for ETS is more obvious, since an unmanaged and uninitialised drive is WORTHLESS.

re:UPGRADES.......
I think many here think, there is still a LITE version delivered with our OEMs. IMO this is not true. All machines come with the full ETS, the only difference is if there is the ETDM integrated or not. (depending on SED)
The so called UPGRADES here are SERVER seats sold (i.e. ERAS, KTM...) or ETS ordered for machines from other OEMs like HP, Lenovo and so on.
So we know that Wave sold about 4K server seats last Q....

You are right on. It doesn't matter. think about the preinstalled McAfees or Nortons. It depends on the policy of the organisation which Scanner is used.
When TPMs are used in the near future, its IMPORTANT that the macine comes with ETS, but I think IF an enterprise chose to use TPMs, they will have to use ETS and ERAS even if the have HP machines....
